Apple TV doesn't see iPhoto Library in Lion

After upgrading to Lion last night, my Apple TV can't find my photos any longer.
Apple TV sees the iTunes library and my music just fine.
But it says I should reconnect to the Photo Library (even though sharing in iTunes as well as iPhoto is on).
Funny thing is, the screen saver does show all the photos.
I just can't browse them.
Anybody else having problems accessing iPhoto from AppleTV in Lion?
Suggestions anyone?

I am having similar problems.  When I try to photo share between my two macs, iPhoto on my host machine crashes. Both machines are running Lion. Have not had much traction fixing this yet.
Why oh why do I upgrade my computers early?

  • Just downloaded trial version -- don't see iPhoto library in Aperture and need to import selected photos-not entire library!

I just downloaded trial version -- don't see iPhoto library in Aperture and need to import selected photos to edit, not entire i Photo library! I read manual and it says:
Browsing and Selecting Images in Your iPhoto Library
You use the Aperture iPhoto Browser to review iPhoto images and import specific images into the Aperture library. The iPhoto Browser gives you a handy way of looking for certain images without having to import your entire iPhoto library.
So, where do I review the iPhoto images...there is nothing in there that says "iPhoto Library"   Everything I see pertains to Aperture Library which of course is empty since I haven't imported (or dragged) any photos in there yet.
Also is tech support available for Aperture?  I have Apple Extended Support and I sure would love it if I had individual help.  I have a deadline --3 days to edit 300 photos and I'm a complete amateur.  iPhoto doesn't  have the capability to erase parts of a face (I need to contour the neck of a mannequin to make it proportionate to the separate head I put on top of it. I'm sure Aperture must have a tool to help me do that!  At least I hope so.

Sounds more like a job for Photoshop to me
if I decide to import entire iPhoto library into Aperture will it delete my iPhoto library?
    No.

  • Why doesn't my iPhoto library sync properly to my iPhone/iPad?

Why doesn't my iPhoto library sync properly to my iPhone and iPad? I have already tried deleting the iPod photo cache. I sync the entire iPhoto library, which includes about 8,000 photos. The Events and Albums never match up, with many missing photos in most albums and events.

Thats is how I did it originally and tried it that way again but it never brings in my library.  Now it gives me a response saying it doesn't have correct permissions. I'm the only user on the iMac. I did recently move the library from my old iMac iPhoto with no trouble.

  • Can't see photos of iPhoto through my Apple TV after moving the iPhoto library to my Airport Extreme Disk. It keeps "loading user's library" forever...

    Hi there,
some days ago I purchased an Airport Extreme router with disk to move my iphoto library there and free space of my crowded macbook pro.
Everything was working well (iphoto takes a little bit longer to start and quit) but now I can't see my photo library through my apple tv.
It keeps loading the library forever.
Is there any problem doing that?
    Thanks

    Help,
Thanks for the quick answer and for the welcome.
Yes I selected it in the iTunes sharing options (in fact several times, with resets in between just in case)
I think that it's related to the size of the library (more than 8 gb) and e fact that is in a remote disk (in the AirPort Extreme)
Hope anyone has the solution :-))
    Thanks again!

  • ITunes doesn't see Aperture Library - iMovie doesn't see Aperture Library

    Issues:
Nearly all of my videos in the Aperture/iPhoto library do not show up when I select iPhoto library option in iMovie and iMovie is unable to locate them in any other way.  Sometimes the option to select the iPhoto library is completely missing.
iTunes does not recognize my Aperture library, and I get the following message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications." After reading through forums and multiple Genius Bar appointments here is most of what I have done:
Created multiple new Aperture libraries, selected them in Aperture, rebooted, switched back and forth - Note:  iTunes DID recognize the new blank libraries
Booted Aperture with the Command + Option keys and run all three options to repair permssions and even rebuilt the database
Booted Aperture with the Option key and selected the library I was using all along (this worked for someone in a forum)
Opened iPhoto (not Aperture) and selected an option to share photos
Run "Verify Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
Run "Repair Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
    Reinstalled OSX
    Reinstalled Aperture
    Reinstalled iTunes
    Reinstalled iMovie
Run a virus and malware scan (no issues)
Verified that Aperture was set to share previews and had a Genius go through all of my options to ensure they were correct in iTunes, Aperture, and iPhoto
Have ran "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" from the Command + Option + R recovery partition multiple times.  Each time it just hangs for hours, the latest attempt ran for over 24 hours before I finally stopped it.
Oh yes, and I found and deleted the file com.apple.iApps.plist
None of these things fixed either of my issues.  According the the Genius at my last appointment, now I have to call Apple Care and pay to get support.  I must have misunderstood what the Genius Bar was about when I bought my Mac and why I purchased the One to One training.  Before I call Apple Care, I was hoping someone might have run across this and can help me.
I asked the Genius if I now need to just create a new Aperture Library and move all of my content to it (that was the last resort for someone in a forum); however, he was concerned that even if this might work that I probably have deeper permission and/or other issues that need to be addressed and that doing so would not fix the root cause.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this issue.

Understood.  I thought perhaps the period meant that I was finished and just needed to call Apple Care and fork out the fee.
The formats are primarily .MOV straight from the iPhone.  Since going to a Mac, I have pretty much given up on using my Sony Handycam for family videos due to the pains of having to locate, identify, convert, and export AVCHD video to watch on Apple TV.  It is just too easy to take video with my iPhone and import it and immediately watch it, although the quality is nothing close to a dedicated video camera, especially indoors and in lower light.  All of the video formats in Aperture are supported and most all of my older home videos and Sony Handycam videos are sitting on an external drive (hoping that one day I will have the time to figure out a decent workflow to access them after I work all of the bugs out of iMovie).  Great thought though.
All my content is managed.  After a handful of One-to-One sessions at the Apple Store, I finally learned that you could not reference videos in iMovie and had to either have them in the iMovie Events directory or in iPhoto (at least that was what she said).  Their solution was to import the videos into iPhoto so they could be easily accessed in iMovie.  After I had issues mentioned in this post their solution was for me to purchase Aperture that could handle larger libraries.  This was supposed to fix the issue and allow iMovie to see my videos.  When that didn't work they said that I needed to purchase Final Cut Pro.  I'm just a Dad who wants to make a few memorable home movies for his family and I don't think that I should have to purchase a $300 application, especially after paying a premium for my Mac and the iLife software, which I am deeply regretting.  But I digress.
I have repaired permissions again and am in the process of repairing the library and will rebuild it again if that doesn't work.  It is taking longer so I won't be able to post the results until a later time.  Definitely worth a shot to try this again.
If this doesn't work I will take the time to create a new Aperture library.  Like I previously mentioned, this was the last resort for another gentlemen who had a similar issue.  After doing this it might explain why the "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" from the Command + Option + R recovery partition is getting hung up and not working.  I'll post the results at a later date.  If I could save just one person the time, gas, and stress I've experienced it would be worth it.
One additional question?  I read a gentlemen's post that passionately argued against ever using iPhoto, Aperture, or iMovie to ever manage video files.  He suggested using folders and a file naming system similar to what I used when I was on a PC using Adobe Elements.  Do you have any thoughts on that?
For my situation, I have two concerns:
I'm afraid this would not allow me to watch the videos on Apple TV as simply as I can now (although I don't know this to be the case for certain).  If the videos aren't in my photo library, I'm not sure how I would be able to access them through Apple TV.
Since I'm a proud Dad I have hundreds of video files spanning many years, so I also don't want to lose the ability to quickly peruse my event library and find content that I want to import into a project in iMovie.  At one point I imported some video files to edit that weren't stored in iMovie, and I could only see the file name and date and had to guess if there was content on it that I wanted.  When you have hundreds of clips like I do that isn't practical.
He argued that these programs were never meant to manage content and worked much more efficiently using this method.  I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks again.

  • IPhoto doesn't recognize iPhoto library - HELP!

When I opened iPhoto today, there are "no photos" in the library, and when I open it holding the option key and try to select the iPhoto library (which does exist) it says it can't recognize those files. I can't get iPhoto to be the default application for jpeg files either - it says it doesn't recognize those either. I know the photos are there in the library but iPhoto won't open them - please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Further, iPhoto is a database not an image viewer and it cannot be be set as the default application to view files.

  • Apple TV doesn't see iphone add remote greyed out

    Hi There
Wife just got a new iphone, I have it synced/paired to her PC's itunes and also paired to my imac itunes which has our music collection (not syncing just have music set to manage manually). Have downloaded the remote app and it connects wonderfully to my itunes and hers but I cannot add remote on our apple tv the option is greyed out on apple tv.......I have checked the wifi network is the same on all, checked the fire wall settings are correct and pretty much everything else. On the apple tv screen it says to start by downloading the remote app which just in case I have done to my imac as well.....I am wondering if my issue is because the itunes library that is streamed to the apple tv is different to the one that the iphone is synced to (ie her PC)........one thing I have noticed is that apple tv doesn't appear on the devices list on her PC.......not sure why this isn't working but its driving me nuts have looked all through the discussions and can't find a solution

I'm not really sure what criteria is necessary for the remote option to show up on the tv, I'm surmising it's simply a fault (which I was hoping could be addressed by a restart). Another option would be a need for the tv to actually detect a wifi network before it enables this option, although mine works on an tv which is connected by ethernet and although that ethernet network is connected to a wifi network, I'm not sure the tv could know that.
The problems you now seem to be experiencing seem to be network related, and I wonder if you are now experiencing interference. You could try changing your wifi broadcast channel to see if that helps.

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

    Cunning1_
You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  • Why can't i see Iphoto Library as normal folders in finder as Microsoft Windows?

I've been having troubles with this for a long time.
In Microsoft Windows, you don't have any original program as Iphoto, so you have all your transfered photos in folders on "my computer".
In Mac, however, you have Iphoto, and every time you sync your Iphone and transfer your photos to Iphoto, you only have acces to the original files you transfered by opening Iphoto and revealing the original files in Finder (command + shift + R).
That's the way i found to manage my original files. I don't like it though.
I want to know if there is any possible way you can manage/have access to your Iphoto Library simply by opening Finder, and not only in Iphoto.
If i wasn't clear, let me try to suggest you to see it by yourself: Open Finder and search the original file of a picture you have on Iphoto. Normally, you don't find it. So you have to open Iphoto, click on the picture you want to use, reveal it in Finder and then do whatever you need with it.
The problem is that this picture was already in Iphoto Library, which is visible in Finder, but there is no way you can open the Iphoto Library without being redirected to Iphoto.
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
    Thanks a lot!
    Matheus.

In your pictures folder of your user directory, there will be a file called iPhoto Library.  Control-click on it and show the contents.  All of your pictures will be inside of there.  HOWEVER, i you edit, delete, rename, etc... any photos from that folder, you can corrupt your iPhoto Library.

  • Apple TV 2 Can See My Library, But Can't Connect for Home Sharing

I'm really at my last rope, so hoping someone will have mercy and be able to help here.
    Symptoms:
    - Go to my Apple TV 2
    - Under the Home Sharing menu, select "Adam Nash's Library"
    Result:
    - Spinning cursor
    - Cannot connect to "Adam Nash's Library".  Please check that your computer is on and on the same network.
Internet access works for all devices, they all can do Netflix and Apple Store.  Only one network in the house.  No firewall activated on the mac.
I have multiple AppleTV units, and this has intermittently affected all of them.  Periodically, I have solved the problem by taking them on / off ethernet.
    Things I have tried:
    - Restarting iTunes on the computer
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on AppleTV
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on iTunes
    - Rebooting the computer
    - Resetting the AppleTV units
    - Restoring the AppleTV units
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to different IP
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to Ethernet instead of Airport (by plugging into Airport base stations directly)
    - Swapping AppleTV units to different rooms
    Nothing works.
One clue.  I have three Airport Extreme base stations in the house, and this problem begain when one of them started misbehaving (would connect, but wouldn't pass through packets.)  It's an Airport Extreme Base Station (Series 1).  The other two are Series 4 & Series 5.  I reset the misbehaving box and reconfigured it, and seems to be working fine from a networking standpoint.  But once that happened, one of the AppleTVs started showing this problem.
Is there some reason that Home Sharing is hyper sensitive to the network in some way?  It *seems* like what's happening is that it's seeing the iTunes Library (which is why it show's the Library name), but when it tries to connect, something is either encrypted differently or permissioned wrong.
Hoping someone can help me.  Frustration is at 11.

One clue: I have found a reliable way to solve the problem when it happens.
In my network, I have the main Airport Extreme (Gen 1) which is connected to my router, which distributes IP addresses to my internal subnet.  The other two AEs (one Gen 4, one Gen 5) are set to extend the network.
When I get this problem with an AppleTV 2 that can "see" my library, but when I try to open it, it says it couldn't find the library, it seems to have to do with a change in which Airport Extreme it's talking to.
If I restart the main Airport Extreme from the Airport Utility, effectively restarting the entire wireless network, then when the network resumes, every AppleTV 2 is happy again.
Unfortuntely, the problem does seem to recur - but I'm wondering if it's because temporary interference leads an AppleTV 2 to try to connect to a different AE, and somehow that's mucking with the Home Sharing.  Remember, internet access (Trailers, Store, Netflix) have no issues.  Purely Home Sharing.

  • ATV doesn't recognize iPhoto Library

Using iTunes to sync by choosing my iPhoto Library doesn't work as the iPhoto Library is dark and can't be chosen.  Also ATV doesn't recognize my iPhoto library which is how I realized I had a problem.  All other functiondsof ATV work fine; i.e. movies, etc,  This just seems to be a sudden problem as everything worked fine before.  Is my iPhoto file corrupted in some way?  What do I do?
    iPhoto version 9.2.3

    Location:  /Users/jberns/Pictures/iPhoto Library
I have run the Repair Database utility by holding down the Option and Command Keys while opening IPhoto
I have tried turning Home sharing on and off.
I did not do anything different.  All other functions of ATV work nicely.
When I try to choose the iPhoto Library it is not active (faded)
    Appreciate the help.

  • Small fear i've lost everything.  in Finder i see iPhoto Library (original)

So... last night I went to try and recover some photos specifically from an old Time Machine backup. I discovered (and remembered) that they seem to be saved in entire libraries, not individual files/folders from which I can pull certain photos. (Correct, so far?)
I went back to a November backup when in Time Machine, clicked on the iPhoto library, and clicked restore. Turns out I didn't have enough HD space. So I thought I just stopped and left things as they were. However, this morning, I went to open up iPhoto and low and behold there's NO photos there.
    Sidenote - I'm a photographer, I can't lose this!
I then looked at Finder and see that I DO have two iPhoto libraries, one titled "iPhoto library" (48.3 MB) and the other "iPhoto library (original)" (35.96 GB).
Could someone please help put me at rest and let me know how to access that "original" library. I clicked on it from the Finder and the "current" one is what appears. So now, forgive me, but I'm just a bit afraid to try anything else.
Regarding backups I think I've learned my lesson and will export the original photos to folders on an external drive, rather than just doing the Time Machine backups.
    THANKS in advance!

Do you think my original idea of exporting the files individually is a good one, or the backups would do just that? Just looking for other thoughts...
I think the key to backing up is redundancy:
My Library lives on my iMac.
It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected. For this job I use DejaVu because it makes a simple back up that is clear and can be tested easily without doing an full restore.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. Personally I use SmugMug but there are many options including flickr. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size, or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you will need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a restore.
an I now delete "iPhoto library" from my Finder, as it hopefully would always use "iPhoto library (original)" from now on? I'm thinking after I delete it, I can rename the "original" one to just "iPhoto library."
    Yes and Yes.
If you're only recovering particular photos, try the iPhoto: File Menu -> Browse back Ups

  • ITunes doesn't "see" my library

    Good morning.
I recently purchased a G4 iBook. I used iPod Rip to move my music from the mini to my iBook. The music was put into folders under an iPod Rip folder. I moved these folder to the iTunes Library folder, however, iTunes doesn't see them.
How do I get this music to show up in my iTunes library?
    Thanks.

File->Add to Library and choose the folder of music.
    That should do the trick.

  • Can't see IPhoto library in IMovie media tab

I'm unable to view my IPhoto library in either IMovie or IDVD. They are all the most recent versions...6.06.
    How can I fix this?

The information that iMovie and iDVD uses from iPhoto is stored in a file in your library called AlbumData.xml. If this file becomes corrupt, other programs will have trouble seeing your photos. This file is only written to by iPhoto, never read back. You can try dragging it out of your library folder (without iPhoto running) and then run iPhoto, make a change to something in your library, and iPhoto will recreate a new AlbumData.xml file. If something goes wrong, you can always drag the original file back into your library.
The online help for iPhoto Library Manager has a good section on this here: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Documentation/iPLM/pgs/albumdata.html
