Apple TV dominates wireless keyboard pairing over iMac

I have Apple TV and an iMac in the same room.  Even when the Apple TV is off, and I switch the iMac on intending to use the keyboard to enter password, etc. sometimes the Apple TV switches itself on, and the keyboard is paired with it and is therefore not discoverable by the iMac for password entry.  This happens intermittently and I cannot find either a solution by searching online, nor through looking at settings on the iMac or Apple TV.
It is a wireless keyboard from ~2011 without keypad extension.  iMac is same vintage, and Apple TV is
Can anyone please help?

  • Connect multiple 2 apple wireless keyboards to one imac computer

How to connect several apple wireless keyboards to one imac? Ive got 2 apple keyboards that I want keep and use in different rooms (have more screens connected there). I manage to connect my logitech edge keyboard and mouse in addition to the already connected apple magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard. But it does not seem as if the imac will accept another apple wireless keyboard?

    Hello Steve:
I have not had a similar problem so I am fishing a bit. I think the problem is rooted in what I thought in my previous post.
    Now, how to fix it?
    Try this:
Go to system preferences>bluetooth. Delete any KB entries there. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist). Be sure that on and discoverable are checked in the BT preference pane. Restart your computer.
Hopefully, whatever KB you have turned on will be "discovered."

  • Wireless keyboard pairing lost in Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded my software to snow leopard and now I can't pair my wireless keyboard with my imac. it says this device hasn't got the necessary services.  Has anyone found out how to repair devices after getting this dialogue box come up?  Thanks!!!

Just a thought: Adding your problem, which is different from the original posters' (he's using an Apple Keyboard and probably had OS issues), to a thread that has been dead for a couple of months is not the best way to get help.
I'd start a new thread that mentions your keyboard brand in the title, and a complete description of how you installed SL and what you have done (as far as permissions repairs, update reinstallations, keyboard vendor support statements) to solve your issue already.
Who knows, others that are using the same keyboard may recognize the problem and may know a solution from the thread title, plus you will have people working on your problem, not the original posters' (he never posted back, so I assume he fixed his problem).

  • Apple's new wireless keyboard

Is it possible to 'easily' remove the keys on one of the new Apple, wireless keyboards - and replace them in other positions? The reason is that I now live in a small, remote village in the French Alps. When I was down at the coast I bought one of Apple's new wireless keyboards - to use with my Macbook Pro (with the lid closed) and a separate display . However, what I did not notice was that although it had a photo of a 'querty' layout on the box - it was, of course, a French 'azerty" keyboard inside! It is not easy for me to return to the shop - and, they tell me by 'phone that they do not have, nor can they get, 'querty' keyboards.
I have a gizmo that makes it easy to remove keys on the original keyboards - but these keys are much lower profile. Other than writing over the keys with a pen (and choosing a 'querty' keyboard in systems preference - can I physically move the keys without causing damage?

    Hi Alan:
I have one of those keyboards, but I have never removed the keys. I do not want to guess and cause you to damage the KB. I would ask an Apple source (store, Applecare) to try to get a definitive answer.
Incidentally, you might ask Apple if you could exchange the KB for one with the key configuration you wish.

  • TS3048 I am having a problem with my wireless keyboard on my iMac

I am having a problem with my wireless keyboard on my iMac.  Sometimes the keys seem to have a life of their own and I get a string of the same letter or symbol even though I only pressed the key once.  Does anyone know how to rectify this?

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
If that does not help, the KB is probably failing.

  • Does apple have a wireless keyboard with numeric keypad

Does any one know if apple has a wireless keyboard with a numeric keypad if not they should make one

    Hello:
Apple stopped making wireless keyboards with numeric pads some time ago.  If you want an Apple KB with a numeric pad, you need to get a USB one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B?n=keyboards&fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg&s=topSe llers
if not they should make one
That is a matter of opinion.  I never use (or want to use) a numeric keypad and LIKE the smaller Bluetooth KB footprint.

  • Using Apple's Wireless Keyboard on Intel iMac

I would like to use an Apple Wireless Keyboard on my intel iMac (the one that comes in white and has an extended keyboard). Can I do this?
I tried to set it up but the intel imac doesn't recognize it, plus the G5 (which is in close proximity) keeps recognizing it instead.
    Any thoughts?

    Hello Nathan:
Delete it from the G5. Turn the G5 off. Then try to pair it with the new computer.

  • Apple Aluminum Wireless Keyboard Pairs, but letter/number keys don't work

I just got the new Wireless keyboard and I paired it, and the Function keys work fine, and when I was pairing, the number keys worked as well(to type in pairing code). But when I try to type in any search box or type anywhere, it won't. even the numbers won't work. the Tab and Delete keys work though. Along with the function keys.
The funny thing about this is that the number keys worked when i was pairing, but not now. Also when I start up my Mac and have to type the password in, the letter keys worked. But once on the desktop its a no go.
    Please help.

24 hours later, the initial fix resetting the Universal Access settings as discussed above, the keyboard proved to be so flaky, that I took it back to Apple and exchanged it for a new one. The weakness seems to be in the bluetooth communication perhaps, with the keyboard accepting the new settings and then forgetting them somehow. So if you are a user reading this thread and you aren't getting any joy from the solution above, the solution is to take/send the keyboard back to Apple for a new one. The one I have now works just fine. It paired up much more quickly and it is typing this note without any issues. So far. I also picked up a wired keyboard in case I have to throw this one against the wall if it starts screwing up like the other one. Either way, I am covered.

  • Imac wireless keyboard pairing

    Hi all,
I hope this is the right section because I could not find one for the keyboard but I bought a wireless keyboard for my macbook pro so I could hook it up to my LG tv  and sit far back but the first time when using Lion it found my keyboard and then had a list of numbers to type in from the keyboard to pair it and all was well but ever since I upgraded to mountain lion I have been un able to pair the device it detects the keyboard but it refuses to pair it and no numbers come up on the screen and says to make sure it son and batterieson correctly..etc I made sure it is all in correctly I put a fresh set of batteries and when I turn it on the green lights comes on for a few seconds then turns off and does not blink or anything..
I dont know what else I can try to get the keyboard to pair with my macbook pro 13" of mid 2010 I made sure the little bit on the end is properly attached as it does detect the keyboard and the batteries are in correctly I cant think for the life of me why it wont work :/

  • Will an Apple wireless keyboard pair with an iPad2?

Is an Apple wireless keyboard designed to pair with an iPad 2?  The instruction book refers to a Mac computer but never to an iPad.  I keep getting the "Pairing Unsuccessful" message after I type in the 4 digit code that the iPad tells me to enter on the keyboard.  The keyboard gives me the flashing light saying it's ready to pair, but doesn't make the hook-up. The keyboard is just a foot from the iPad.  Any suggestions?

    This might help.
    Note the following:
The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
In addition, many third-party Bluetooth keyboards that use the Apple keyboard layout are also compatible. Check with the keyboard manufacturer for additional information.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard pairing delay

Hi. I have a first generation Mac Mini with a D-Link DBT-120 (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=34) Bluetooth adapter and an Apple Wireless Keyboard. When I turn on the computer and I'm going to type my password, it take like 3-4 minutes for the computer to recognize the keyboard (I turn on the keyboard in the moment I turn on the computer). After that, the keyboard works perfectly. I would like to know if there's any way to make the pairing of the computer and the keyboard faster. I know it's probably just a detail but it's a bit annoying.
    Thanks.
    Santiago.

I have a keyboard that I had previously (successfully) paired with my iPad 2.  I haven't used them together in a long time.
I have been trying to pair the last 1-2 days and have had no luck.  Most of the time the iPad doesn't detect the keyboard from the Bluetooth Settings.  Occasionally it will detect, but when I click it to pair it will take awhile and then simply alert "Pairing Unsuccessfull".
The light on the keyboard indicates to me that it's paired (3 seconds of green and then off - as opposed to the flashing which indicates it's unpaired).  I put in fresh batteries.  I know it's working because I can turn on Caps Lock.
Any ideas?  Any way to reset the keyboard so as to start more from scratch?  I don't have a PIN in my Apple keyboard manual.  If I recall correctly, last time the iPad asked me to enter a confirmation code on the keyboard and hit enter.
I'll have to check out the pair of links (Using and Troubleshooting) but I think I've tried everything I found in them.
My computer died and now I'm waiting for my new Macbook Pro.  Need my keyboard paired with my iPad to stem the tide!

  • Cannot press enter after passkey to pair wireless keyboard on restarting iMac as enter was remapped

My wireless keyboard needed new batteries, when I replaced them it wouldn't repair so I rebooted the iMac as it said in another thread. When prompted for passkey I cannot press return/enter as previously it stopped working and I remapped R shift as enter- which I presume only operates if the system is paired?
Any help please to repair keyboard?

Connected a wired keyboard but when trying to pair the wireless keyboard it still wont pair as hitting R shift ( remapped as enter) is not accepted.
Hitting enter/retunt doesnt do anything either
    Any ideas anyone??

  • TS1569 Wireless Keyboard Pairing Problems

I have an iMac mid 2007. Everything was working fine until today. I replaced the batteries in my wireless keyboard. When I turned on my computer it wouldn't recognize the keyboard and I am having difficulty pairing it again. The green light turns on for a few seconds and goes off. The caps lock light works and everything, but it won't pair. Please help.

    Hello;
It is not helpful to you, but resetting the SMC frequently fixes similar problems.
If you have a wired KB, try resetting the PRAM.
If you do not, try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting.
I think it is unlikely, but I suppose the KB decided to fail at the same time you replaced the batteries.
If you happen to be near an Apple store, take it in and see if it will pair with their equipment.
