Apple TV Download Times

I am trying to download a 42 minute HD TV show on a recently purchased Apple TV 2. It is connected via cat 5. ATV is telling me it will take anywhere from 9 - 18 hours before it is ready. Is this common? I'm assuming it isn't or this thing would sell. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same issue.
On a similar vein, is there anyway to determine the download speed on ATV?
Thanks,
Jeff

A few weeks back I ran a speed test. It indicated something like 50 kb/sec. I called AT&T and it was up to 500 kb/sec. I haven't run one tonight but will do one now. Although I'm doing this from my iPad.
FYI. I'm running a westell modem to a new airport extreme. The Apple TV is connected directly to the airport.

  • TS3623 APPLE TV download times suddenly became 3-4 evn 12 hrs for a movie?

What happened 3 months ago ? APTV was working fine then download times suddenly became 3-4 evn 12 hrs for a movie?!! Movies that I purchased that are in their cloud take a similar time to download. Not a problem with my internet provider or my router as both tested fine. Apple Genius Bar has suggested a reset of the device which made zero difference.  Any suggestions out there?

I have had my provider in to test my signal strength. My router shows full bars as well.

  • Apple TV download time vs. Amazon Video on Demand download time

When I rent an HD TV program from Amazon, it is ready to watch almost instantly.
When I rent an HD TV program from Apple TV, it takes a few hours to download the program. I know everyone else has this time problem.
My question is why is it that Amazon can get the program to you instantly but Apple TV takes a few hours.
By the way, I still would rather watch the show on the Apple TV than the show from Amazon on my Sony Blu Ray. It is a better picture. But what is Amazon's secret here and why can't Apple TV do it in the same time?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I have no problem renting from iTunes on Apple TV, they start after 5 seconds. What is your internet speed (speedtest.net)
I can't comment on Amazon as the service is not offered here, but I do know Netflix uses a different system (adapts based on your connection, streams instantly regardless). So maybe it's a similar thing here.

  • Apple TV download time- Is this a joke?

Well, I setup a new Apple TV yesterday, upgraded it to 2.0 software, synced my music and now it's movie time for a nice Sunday evening.
I started downloading an HD movie and for the past hour and a half, it's just up to 7% downloaded. If the speed is constant. I'm looking at 21.4 hours for a complete download. Is this real or what?
I've tried both the direct ethernet connection and Airport Extreme. There does not seem to be much difference.I have a standard Earthlink DSL connection. Not sure what the speed is, but maybe 768 Mbps.
Any advice or shall I return the Apple TV and be on my way to Blockbuster?

Do you have any cable services.
Otherwise I think you might need to plan ahead. Ironically though:
There is a good chance that overnight the download will speed up and you might find your film takes you 15 -18 hours to d/l. If movie time is say between 7 pm and 10 pm, you can select another movie between 10 pm and bedtime for the next days movie time.
We don't have rentals here yet, but when we do I'm hoping my 8 Mbps (6.5 actual) will enable me to start watching straight away or at least within 1/2 an hour (the time it takes to get everyone ready). If not and I have to wait 3 hours, then I don't see that I'll be better off than you, since after 3 hours we won't be watching the movie the same night anyway and will still have to resort to planning a day ahead.

  • How can I make my Apple TV more reliable? It takes a day to download a HD movie on a T1 to play later, but when I try to play the movies, Apple TV can't, and says try again later. Doesn't the day download time put the HD movie on the Apple TV device?

How can I make my Apple TV work? I downloaded two movies, to play later, on April 4, 2014. I tried to watch them this evening only to get a message they are not available and to try later. How long can it take Apple to download the movies? I encourage anyone thinking about buying an Apple TV to get a different media player that is reliable. Apple TV is not worth the money, nor the time it takes to download movies, nor the effort trying to get your money back when Apple TV fails, and it failsl oftern.. Apple never seems to have a problem charging for the movies, but it frequently has a provlem delivering what people pay for.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • Apple TV/iTunes movie download times

Have had Apple TV for over 2 years but in the last several months, when I rent a movie from iTunes, it takes over 2 hours for the movie to download.  This was never the case in the past.  It used to just take moments.  I have changed NOTHING within my system, nor do I feel I should have to.  Could someone explain to me why this is happening?  I also use Apple TV to stream my Netflix movies...no lag time at all with those.
It does tell me that I would it to download faster I should change the resolution in "settings".  Well, why the **** would I want to do that?  And whay suddenly have to do this?  Kind of ruins the reason for having a high end SONY flat screen.
    Open to ideas.
    Kindest regards~

If the above Support Article does not resolve it... then you have a problem.
Perhaps a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required..
Be sure to make an appointment first...
    Note:
That error message may be indicative of the Device being Hacked / jailbroken.... If this is the case then you are on your own.

  • Long download times in Apple TV

I'm now downloading an HD movie to my Apple TV which started at 11:30, it is now 3:00 and it is only 27% done. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I'm using the latest Airport Extreme device with a DSL line. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks
    Coach

Take a look at this page:
iTunes Store: Download times for purchases will vary
It should give you an idea as to what sort of download times you can expect, so you can determine whether or not what you're experiencing is normal. If you're on a DSL line that gives you less than 1Mbps, then an HD movie will indeed take a large number of hours, and there won't be anything you can do about it short of getting a faster Internet connection.

  • Firefox.exe download times out in IE

I`ve attempted several times to download Firefox 6.0.2 on the main computer (I've successfully downloaded it within minimal minutes on other computers in the house that run off the same connection) and the download fails with the error message that it `timed out`.
The transfer rate shows at being no more than 1.29kb/sec (937 bytes/sec) while the actual internet connection speed shows 130 Kb. The estimated download time is close to 4 hours.
The main laptop in the house is a Dell with Windows XP Professional, and I'm running IE 8.0.6.
I've tried to download Firefox several times hoping different mirrors will give me a faster speed but its the same every time.
    Any suggestions?

On iPhone 4, 4s and 5 and Ipads IOS6,  go to settings, and locate Store.  Click your Apple ID and sign out on Store and then re-sign in your Apple ID, and session timed out issue will be fixed. I tried this myself and confirmed working =) Good Luck.

  • Why am I seeing the software download time estimated at 11 hours?

    Hi!
I'm restoring data in my 4S and the Apple server is pushing iOS 8.2 for the upgrade. When I tried to download the upgrade to my MacBook, the download was estimated to take 6 hrs. This didn't seem right, even though I'm downloading from the Airport Extreme. I proceeded regardless, knowing this is generally an estimate and my normal experience has been the estimated download time revises to less time as the download progresses.
This time it nearly took the 6 hours then promptly crashed.
Off to my iMac (currently running 10.9.5) and attempted to download the upgrade on the newer machine. Now the estimated time is 11 hours. Should I have "hard wired" directly from the AirPort Extreme with a LAN cable, or is something choking the download speed at my end?
Just wondering and am awaiting to hear from the collected wisdom of the readers for advice.
<humour> I have nothing to do right now except ride shotgun on this download.</>
    Thanx in advance

    Hey TerryS53,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the update is taking a long time to download. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • HT201493 Do I have to enter my apple ID every time I open Find My Friends? Annoying

Do I have to enter my apple ID every time I open Find My Friends? Annoying

Are you talking the app store on the iPhone?
If you are, it has to do with control of getting the updates and control of downloading new software.  Sometimes there will be an update when someone won't want an update.  Requiring the password would give someone better control over what gets installed.  Or if there's new software, it will give a parent, for example, better control over what gets purchased or even just downloaded, in the case of a free app.
I'm not an Apple employee, but I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't consider it a problem.  They tend to err on the side of caution, especially when money is involved.  Requiring the apple id password every time definitely does that.

  • Apple TV download errors

I am consistently getting error 8003 when trying to rent movies. And on teh odd chance the movie will download it now takes 6 hours whereas it used to take a few minutes. Nothing that I know of has changed in my wifi or ethernet set up.. Apple is no HELP

    Thanks alex_h1.
However I had already tried all the troubleshooting steps defined in the link you gave except explicitly verifying DNS and network settings, which I have now done. Regrettably there is no noticeable improvement in Apple TV interminable download times, whilst itunes still works perfectly speedily downloading to our devices such as iMac, Macbook and iPad.
Any further thoughts or suggestions would be most gratefully received.
    BR, Tony

  • Amazingly long download times

I'm importing a 12 minute movie clip. The download time is going to be 166 minutes - almost 2 hours. That's a bit extreme. Is there anything that I can do to fix it? (the video is a .mp4 638x478 and 153.1mb)
Note: I have iLife '08, but I downloaded iMovie HD from the apple site.

iMHD6 is a DV-editor, meant to import from miniDV devices, handling 'dv-stream encoded NTSC/PAL..
your files have wrong res + wrong codec (mp4 could mean divx or similiar, playback-only codecs), ... = LOTS of computation to make iM to 'swallow' such a non-standard file..
