Apple TV drops off network.

Apple TV returns the error ATV-N.P.LASU1 from the Netflix App after which time it is no longer visible on my network and cannot be reached using the Remote App on iOS 6. This seems to be recent behavior resulting from an update to Apple TV or iOS 6 itself. Previously Netflix errors did not seem to cause the same connection problem with the Remote App.
Steps to reproduce
1) watch something on netflix
2) netflix times out or program ends
3) trying to return to menu causes error above
4) you cannot exit netflix and return to main Apple TV menu
5) remote app stops connecting
I bought a regular Apple Remote to replace the long lost original and the AppleTV responds to this remote (of course it is infrared) but you still cannot exit the Netflix App.
Rebooting the Apple TV solves the problem. Waitng an indeterminate amount of time *sometimes* solves the problem when Netflix seems to clear its own network issue.
Oh by the way, 2nd Gen Apple TV is connected via a switch to an ethernet port on a Time Capsule. And this setup has worked fine for several years.
Anyone know of a more permanent fix for this? Apple are you listening?

Sightly diff. setup, but same dropped-network symptoms.  ATV2 drops off the wireless or wired network every few hours.  A restart thru the ATV menu fixes it.  ATV3 running of the same wireless works fine.  ATV2 is back on FW 5.0.1, ATV3 is on 5.1.  Could be related, but the ATV2 had been running fine like that for a long time!

  • Why does Apple TV drop off my network and have to be restarted to reappear?

My Apple TV constantly drops off my Airplay menus on both iMacs, two iPads, and two iPhones.  It will reappear when I restart it, but it will diaper after being activated.  Also, I can't access my home-sharing-enabled computers from the Apple TV menu unless I restart it.  This happens every time I try to use it either to use it for AirPlay or Home Sharing.

The Apple TV is connected to my network on ethernet. After the Apple TV has restarted it will work for a while until it is either unselected from AirPlay or until after the movie is finished and I have disconnected it from home sharing.  It's just inconvenient to have to restart it every time you want to use it.

  • Apple Devices Dropping Off Wireless Network

Hello, I have recently deployed a wireless network using a WLC 2504 with 21 Light APs. All seems fine except that
Apple Devices drop their connections every 15 minutes or so. A couple of minutes later they can reconnect but
    obviously something is wrong.
    Many Thanks

Only Apple device exhibit this kind of behaviour?
What kind of Apple devices?  Mac laptops?  iPad, iTouch, iPhone?
Have you seen this behaviour from, say, non-Apple devices?  Android?  Windows laptops?
What are the signal strengths when this happens?
Do you have Aironet IE enabled?
How far are the clients from the WAP(s)?

  • AirPort Express 802.11N (2nd generation) Drops off Network

I have recently purchased the Airport Express (2nd generation) and wanted to use it for streaming music through Spotify from my Ipad.
After having set it up by Airport Utility 6.3 on my Mac it works for about an hour but then drops of the network.
I am joining my existing network wirelessly.
I have tried to set the IPv6 to Link-local only ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/22237018#22237018 ) and also to Tunnel as advised by an expert from the Apple Chat - but it still drops off after about an hour. Then the only way to get Airport Utility to see the Airport Express again is to hard reset it and start all over again, but it keeps dropping out. I have lost count of the number of times I have rest it by now.
I have now read several posts about people having various issues with the Airport Express and am a bit confused wheter it works at all.
I have updated the Airport Exp to the latest firmwear and also my router as someone suggested but still with no luck.
Hope to hear from anyone who can shed a bit of light on this one.
    Many thanks,

Forgot to say that the green light stays on the Airport Express even when it has dropped off the network and one no longer can use it for Airplay through Spotify as well as the yellow trianlge shows up in the Airport Utility and says "device not found".

  • Ethernet Between Extreme and Time Capsule Causes TC to drop off network.

    This stumped Apple Support:
    Set up.
Basement (where service enters the home):
CABLE MODEM ===> AIRPORT EXTREME (router and wifi) I have my Directv SWM Ethernet connected here.
I have an Ethernet cable run from here to my upstairs office.
    Upstairs Office:
TIME CAPSULE ===> Ethernet to each of three IMACs (which back up to the TC)
Various AP Express for music and wireless extenders.
Here is my issue. All of the components work perfect when the AP Extreme, TC, and AP Express(es) are on WIFI.
When I try to connect the TC to the Extreme over Ethernet the TC drops off the network.
(This happens with or without the Directv connected)
This is frustrating because I hate losing the speed to my imac's by using wifi vs. Ethernet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
With the TC powered on, hold in the reset button on the back of the TC for 9-10 seconds and then release. Allow a full minute for the TC to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Connect the Ethernet cable (I assume that you have already tested to make sure that it is working correctly) to the WAN "O" port on the TC.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen and wait a minute for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on Time Capsule.
(The example below shows an AirPort Express. You will see Time Capsule instead of AirPort Express)
AirPort Setup will open automatically and take a minute to analzye the network, then announce that the TC will be configured to "extend" the network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Time Capsule and click Next
You should now see a message that the TC is being configured to "extend" the network "using Ethernet"
Wait another minute. When you see the messge of Setup Complete, click Done.   That's it.

  • Phaser 3250DN drops off network after printing one or two pages

I have a Phaser 3250DN printer that has started dropping off the network after switched on and printing one or two pages.  If I power cycle the printer, it comes back online, but then drops off the network again almost immediately so I can't print any more pages.  The printer fails to respond to pings while in this state.  The printer is 4 years old but has had >extremely< light usage.  We've printed about one thousand pages total and is only turned on when we want to print something so most of the time it's physically powered off.

Network drop-offs can occur for a variety of reasons and be triggered by a variety of causes. You may want to make sure you are using the latest software release on the product, as well as check the network firewall configuration settings. In addition, sometimes disabling unused networking protocols can reduce traffic the device is exposed to and ease the burden if traffic volume is what is shutting down the NIC.
Another thing to consider would be the network topography itself; make sure the device is on a subnet exposed to minimal broadcast/multicast traffic.
Finally, you can verify the device itself is physically functional by testing it with a laptop and crossover cable. If the drop-off behavior occurs while connected directly to another single computer, it may be indicative of an issue with the main board or hard drive.
You may also find additional support articles at the following link: Phaser 3250 KB - http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-3250/support/enus.html
    I hope this helps.

  • Pixma MX922 drops off network, what ports need to be opened

Pixma MX922 keeps dropping from my wireless network - no matter what I do to configure. Called Canon support and they were not able to resolve issue (offered to replace printer, prefer not to do this - only as last resort).
I attempted ALL the standard items to resolve (re-install printer, drivers, make static IP (NO DHCP leasing - and my DHCP lease time on router is set to max. time of 2 weeks anyway...), made sure of no firewall issues, etc., etc.) but printer keeps doing this. Can ping the ip, etc., so I know that it exists, but UNLESS I POWER the printer OFF / ON - anything I sent to it will just sit in print queue.  Once I power it off / on - all printing is fine  - only for a few hours or next day - until it happens again...
Somewhere on this forum another user stated that he resolved the problem by contacting Canon support and they told him specific Ports on his router that had to be opened in order to fix the issue of the printer dropping off wireless network (* he must have had a better tech than the ones I spoke with...).
Does anyone on this forum know the ports that must be open on the router?  Possibly one or two higher number ip ports such as 1020, or 25466, etc. ?
Thank you to anyone who may know this and provide.

Podcasting is not streaming on content, only downloading. It is basically a blog with an attachment in the RSS feed. Only port 80 (normal web port) needs to be able to go through the firewall.

  • SCSI Attached Storage Drops off Network

After grading to current gen Mac Pro running 10.8.2, I have noticed that my Attached Scsi storage drops off of our network on a regular basis. This was never a problem on my late 2007 Mac Pro running 10.6.X When we upgraded we kept the same ATTO UL5D and just moved it over to the new maching and installed the latest drivers.
The fix to get the drive back on the network is to restart the machine but this is not really the best solution as sometimes if I am in the middle of something I can't just restart the computer.
Everything seems correct in the networking settings and the drive is shared under the get info. Access to the other drives seems to be fine. The one odd thing is that The whole drive comes up under the networking section of the finder as well as the one directory - our photo library, seems that access to that one directory is okay but when I just looked the no access red circle was there for the rest of the drive. I disconnected and then reconnected and all the drives came up with the Whole Drive in question greyed out but that one directory again listed seperatly and accessable.. It is very odd.
    any isight would be appreciated
    -D

SCSI Attached Storage is something else.
You have parallel SCSI drive(s) attached to your Mac with a SCSI card. You appear to be using
System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing ...
... to Share them with other Macs on your Network.
Mac OS X File Sharing is completely dependent on the Permissions system. If you get the red circle minus sign "no access" symbols, you usually need to change who-gets-access under File Sharing.
If the drives disappear, you can sometimes get them back by using the Finder's Connect to Server, or disconnecting and re-connecting in a Finder window on the remote Mac.

  • Apple Raid dropping off when doing most data renders

Apple Raid, fully occupied, 3 TB is dropping off when doing renders. Unit is connected via fiber to Mac intel running FCP 7, OS 10.6. Problem has been going on a for a while. Drive will sometimes drop off, when no renders are occurring. Also, drive performance is slower. Although drives are striped all the way accross, front performance meters, do not operate together. When the disconnect happens, what does your system log report?  Have you logged into Raid Admin and checked the device logs?  What do they report?

  • HP 2320 network printer keeps dropping off network

I have a small home network, running off a current gen TimeCapsule. I have an HP Colorlaser CM2320 network laser printer connected to a 5-port switch on the network. Randomly, the printer disappears. When selected in a print dialog, the satus is offline. But of course, it's not offline. It's connected and powered on, the switch is connected and powered on. I have powered cycled the printer, the switch, and the TimeCapsule. No success. Later, the printer magically becomes visible again. Later still, is goes away. This is driving me and my family crazy. The most recent problem started a few days ago. I printed several documents with no problem. My wife later in the day tried to print, but nothing. I spent several hours power cycling all the devices, plugging and unplugging ethernet cables, but no success. The next day, all of a sudden it starts printing my wife's document. A few hours pass, and I want to print, but the printer has again disappeared. It has not come back in two days now.
Thanks to anyhone who can help. Rick

Betcha it is Lion on the computer.. I have a network HP laser and it never goes offline with SL.. and TC running good old reliable 7.5.2 firmware.
The printer name and IP must be recognised by the Mac.. did you lock the values on the printer or are you using dhcp?
I recommend for printer lock the IP and name in the printer setup.
If you still have issues see if you can ping the printer.. by IP and by Name.. if it fails please post the details of what actually fails.. For Lion and latest TC firmware Apple have some way to go to fix networking issues.

  • Time Capsule dropping off network after only a few minutes?

Right, I've had a good look through the forums and found a few similar issues to mine but none that are exactly the same or provide any answers, so I'll give it a go and see if anyone has a clue what is going on because I'm stumped.
I've got a new TimeCapsule which is connecting to my home network (through a belkin router), and for the first few days it worked fine. But ever since it's been acting up. To start with it kept dropping from the network and not showing up in either Airport Utility or Finder. Initially simply restarting it worked, but the dropping started getting progressively worse. I tried renaming the machine with a shorter title and no spaces, but the problem continued. Eventually it got to the point where the machine would just hang when switched on with either a solid green or solid amber light - no audible startup procedure or anything. Resetting the machine made no difference - sometimes the light would flash amber and sometimes it would do nothing at all, but neither did anything to the actual machine.
I left the machine off for a good few hours and switched it back on and it showed up in my system long enough for me to reset it and reconfigure it. Then as I tried to change the disc name to something short and without spaces it dropped out again and now seems dead as a dodo once more.
I have checked the local wireless networks, and it seems mine is using channel 2, which no one else seems to be. But I can't stay connected to the TC to change it anyway.
Ironically when it is working it's fine and I can access the files and everything. I'd be tempted to take it back tomorrow but I had moved a few files to the HD when it was working that I'd rather not lose forever.
    Any ideas?

    I got my puzzle here:
Time Capsule (Firmware 7.3.2) dropping internet connections (PPPoE) every 2-3 minutes, then automatically re-connect.
Time Capsule 500G - bought yesterday
ISP stability - 4 years, I've been using
Computers - PC (Vista), MBP (Mac OS X 10.5.6), MBA (Mac OS X 10.5.6) --- but seems not related to this issue. Even shut down the computers, TC still drops; No "Real Player Updater" found though...
I have to get back to my $55 Buffalo and it's running perfectly stable now...

  • WRT310n drops off network randomly.

The connection (wired or wireless) will just drop for about 20 seconds, and then pop back up. If you are looking at the lights on the router you will see them go off as if you did a reset. It has been doing this regularly for 1 - 2 weeks now, ever since I got it. It will also loose all of the settings in the firmware (they all go back to factory defaults) this is not the case all of the time but it happens every other day or so. I have made a settings backup for this issue and created new copies  (after manually resetting to factory defaults) to eliminate the possibility of restoring a corrupt backup.  I have cloned my PC's Mac and double checked it with IP config, I have also upgraded the firmware to the latest version. I have also tried several of the tips from the forums such as holding the reset for 30sec unplugging (while keeping the reset held in) hold for another 30 sec. I have cable access through roadrunner and the cable modem model is sb5101. I am running XP and Vista systems on the network, which I don't think is part of the problem as it will effect the entire network when the problem occurs. I am wondering if the router is defective? This is the second one I have had, the wireless portion died on the first one I had after the first day.
Any help, or info is greatly appreciated.

  • IMac G4 dropped off network

    Hello,
I have a home business network set-up where I do my creative work on an iMac G4 and Mac Book and use a cheap box PC as a print server for my wide format and large colour laser printer. The PC, iMac and laser printer are connected to a Lynksys WRT54GS by ethernet and the MacBook to the router via wireless g.
Everything has been going great with all machines able to see, print and fileshare with each other. The other day, having done nothing special to the machine or new programs loaded, the iMAc convinced itself it is off the network.
In the Status tab of Network prefs, I am told that an ethernet cable is not connected, yet the MacBook can still mount the User/Computer volume ofthe iMac (but can not see the hard drive as a sharable volume). So the ethernet connection has not failed. Running diagnostics bangs into the "your ethernet cable is not plugged in".
From the PC side - it can see the MacBook and vice versa but tells me I do not have sufficient permissions or password (whatever) to mount the iMac drive.
Investigating the entire Network prefs pane, it seems that all settings are normal - IP addresses, etc.
When I tried to print to the ethernet printer, I was told by the iMac that "Appletalk is not enabled" (it is).
    Any thoughts on this one?
    TIA

  • Ipod Touch drops off network all the time

I am using a 2nd generation Ipod Touch to control Itunes on a Mac Mini. I am using the "Remote" application on my Ipod. I do not use the Ipod for anything else but remote control. There is no music on my Ipod.
I have the "stay connected" switched ON under remote settings in my Ipod. But almost every time I pick the Ipod up to use it it says:
"Can not connect to the local Network"
Then it generally does connect in a few seconds after I push a button. But sometimes I have to reboot the Mac Mini to get it to work. (I am not sure why this helps becasue I am using my Netgear Modem/router for my Network - not the Mac Mini....). My music library is on the Mac Mini.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    - Connect the iPod to your computer. If iTunes sees the iPod then restore the iPOd.
    - Next see if recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so your can restore it.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Then try DFU mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - Then, let the battery fully drain and then charge and try again.
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    Hello lucky3480;
I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking of possibly returning the unit and purchasing a wireless internet card to install in the tower. Any help you can provide would be great. Even suggesting a good wireless card at this point
Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. Here's a link to Apple's PDF about [Designing AirPort Networks|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Designing_AirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf] Click on it to open in Safari but then save it to your desktop. Now open it from your desktop and start reading Chapter 3, page 42.
    Later...
