Apple TV failure and in-store replacement

Out of nowhere my 2nd generation AppleTV failed. All of a sudden it would only show "Computers" and "Options" rather than the screenload of options. Finally got it to work again by unplugging the ethernet cord at the Appletv. Worked fine for a few hours and then same failure. It would try to set Date and TIme and fail to do so, just as before
By that time I had already done a RESTORE, and my software was up to date, and I hada alreaday rebooted my entire network. I took screenshots on my ipad showing that my FiOS router showed an IP address for the appletv (with no conflicts), another that the network settings on the Appletv showed the same IP address, and a final one that showed Excellent wireless signal to the Aiport Express which the appletv connects to via ethernet (I have it set up this way to minimize the number of devices trying to claim bandwidth). Inerestingly, I could still stream to it from ipad, iphone and itunes.
Rep at Genius bar said that normally he would have done a RESTORE and sent me home to see how it worked but that since my warranty was due to expire at Christmas and since I had already done so much work and could show him the circumstances he was sending me home with a new unit.

If your hard drive was not backed up then you can download items purchased from the iTunes Store.

For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Did you subscribe to iTunes Match service? If you did, your other music would be available too.
Note, this restores the music files themselves, not playlists, playcount, ratings, or other things associated with the actual library file structure.
You really should consider getting a backup drive. Hard drives failures are a certainty and it saves a lot of grief.

My iphone 4s wont switch on or reset. i spoke to apple earier and they will replace the phone under warranty. i didnt back up my phone on itunes or icloud. as the phone will not switch on i am unable to do this now. any ideas how i can get these off?

My iphone 4s will not switch on. Supposidly it has been "charging" all day and stll it does not have enough life to switch on. Rang Apple this morning and they will replace the phone under warrenty free of charge. Only problem is with this being my first Apple product i didnt realise my phone did not automatically back up on itunes or icloud as i had to set this up.

You cannot get Applecare plus now.
It is unlikely that they will replace as it is damaged. The only way to find out is to make an appointment at the genius and and see what they say.

No. apple will not facilitate your ability to use a stolen phone.
If it is locked with YOUR Apple ID and you can't remember the ID or password, start at https://iforgot.apple.com. If you can't reset it there, call AppleCare and speak to someone in Account Security. Be prepared to prove your identity.
If it's locked with someone else's ID, they must release the lock.

I'm not certain but my new MBA 13...when in sleep mode comes back on from a black screen when I simply click on the left mouse button. Also, one time I did a SECURE EMPTY TRASH on files that totalled more than 1GB and it took so long that the fan kept increasing in speed so I pressed on the POWER button and the MBA shut...I was able to boot up with no problem. As a rule, I now only do secured erases for trash bin data totalling 500mb or less...anything above that gets a regular erase (dump).

Bee , you are so right that most people only post when things go wrong not right. Which made me think about the Apple Store in Charleston, SC. I have never had a bad experience and besides buying my iMac there (which was a really good experience as it took us several trips to decide and they were really helpful) I have had a number of 1:1's and I think one trip to the genius bar which resulted in a new mouse. Everyone I have dealt with there has been respectful and helpful. At least with those visits you do get a chance to provide feedback.

so the thing is a few days ago i made an app store purchase and i didn't know i was running out of money on my credit card. i realized that only when i tried to purchase another item and it didn't work. nothing special til here. the problem is that meanwhile my credit card was replaced by a new one by the bank because the old one was soon expiring. So the data associated with the old credit card no longer exist.
i tried to edit my billing info associated with my apple id in order to enter the new credit card data, but the system doesn't allow me to do that.
so i can neither pay my purchase, nor edit my info, nor access app store anymore.
what's next? any ideas? thanks

I have an older iMac 5,1 and the disc drive no longer works. I was hoping that I could the Apple USB super drive as a replacement, but the info on the super drive page says compatible with iMac 2012 or later. Does anyone know why it would not work for me?

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it." Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct 25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.

My hard drive continually has the floating beach ball and will take massive time to fulfill a request. And then will not boot up...so then I have to do a restore and rebuild hard drive from a past saved time machine version. Works for a little bit...then the floating beachball comes more and more...until it will not boot up again. So then I restore from a previous time machine saved version....and again it works for a day or so ... until it happens again. Now it's happening faster and faster...so I think my hard drive is dying.
