Apple TV fills up disk on Airbook ???

Even if I buy a movie on the Apple TV, it jumps onto the hard drive of my Macbook Air and fills up the disk. How do I get movies to stay on the Apple TV drive and not on the computer ?

  • RE: Apple iMac 27 Hard Disk Replacement Complaint

    Dear Customer ServiceManager,
RE: Apple iMac 27” Hard Disk Replacement Complaint
On May 12, 2011, Ibought an iMac 27”  for my daughter from your official Hong Kong website (www.apple.com/hk).
I am writing tocomplain about my dissatisfaction of your poorproduct quality, irresponsibleattitude of your customer service, and most importantly my painful experience with your Apple Careservice.  I am also very disappointed with how your Apple Care staff made a discriminating comment about your low income Hong Kong customers.
On July 28, 2011, mydaughter received an email from your company ([email protected]) informing her that the hard disk of her newly purchased iMac wasdefective due to factory error. You promised to replace the defective hard disk with a brand new onefree of charge, but when she asked your HK Apple technical support if therewould be on-site replacement service, your staff told her that she can onlyeither carry the 30-pound iMac herself to their service center or pay HKD1200for the Apple Care which offers the on-site replacement service.
First of all, I foundyour request very unreasonable.  Mydaughter was not the one who broke the hard disk, your company informed herthat you gave her a defective one. So why is the responsibility and the cost of taking the iMac for repairshould be borne by her, as an innocent customer, who paid HKD18, 000 for aniMac directly ordered from your official website?  She did nothing wrong but your company required her to barethe cost of transporting a 30-pound iMac and the risk of causing damage on theway.
Secondly, I believeyour company has deceitfully forced my daughter to buy your Apple Care, whichis completely against her original will. Since she is just a 22-year-old girl, it is impossible for her to carrythe 30-pound iMac by herself.  Andclearly, she was not given a choice but had to pay HKD1200 for the AppleCare.  This made me doubt if thisis a scam of your company.  Is thisa way of how Apple make extra money by giving your customer faulty products anda mission impossible, then forcing us to pay for a service that we did notneed?
Anyway, thepainfulness of enjoying your Apple Care service has just started…
On Aug 10, 20111:30pm, your service man came to change her hard disk with just a look as ifthe process was very ‘efficient’ and left after half an hour, even her Mac OShas not yet been completely installed. After he left, my daughter found that the OS could not be installed, soshe called your service center immediately and under her strong request, he hadto come back on the same day and check the new hard disk.  He found it proved to be a defectiveone again.  I was shockinglysurprised that your company, which always claims to produce products of highquality, selling at an expensive price, replaced my claim-to-be defective harddisk with a defective one again.  Iwonder how Apple’s quality control is done?  Your company didn’t even bother to check if the new harddisk is working before replacing it for customers.
My daughter requestedfor a new one, but then your service center said they had no new stock andasked her to wait until further notice. But without any definite date, it means my daughter’s brand new computercannot be used for… I don’t know how long.  Please notice that I paid HKD18,000 to buy a first-classproduct of high quality, as claimed by your company all over the world.
So my daughter had tocall your service center again and forced them to return her original harddisk.  Till 5:00 pm on the sameday, another technician came to reinstall her original hard disk into hercomputer.  Surprisingly, all thedata in her original hard disk was still there, which means there is a riskthat all her personal data and information had been accessed by your servicecenter staff.
As a father, I had totake over the matter from my daughter and called your hotline 2112 0099 at5:00pm on Aug 10, 2011.  After 30minutes, I could finally talk to one of your technical support staff for 10minutes about my complaint.  Heasked me to hold the line and wait for him to transfer my call to his seniortechnical support colleague, so I kept on waiting for 15 minutes, but finallythe line was being cut and no body contacted me and my daughter again.
I had to call yourhotline again at 6:00 pm and waited for another 15 minutes to reach one of youradvisors.  He passed my line toyour senior technical support advisor located in Singapore.  He said he is just a technical supportadvisor, so he could not take my complaint directly. He needed to talk to meagain on the next day with a customer service advisor.  He promised if he could not reach me onmy mobile phone, he would leave his direct line for me so that I would not haveto waste another half an hour to reach him through the hotline.
On Aug 11, 2011 5:28pm, I received a voice mail from your senior technical support advisor asking me to call him back but he didn’t leave any direct telephonenumber as he promised.  So I triedto call back the caller ID, which was shown on my phone.  However, the auto reply of this numberwas, “This is an invalid number”. I asked the Hong Kong Telephone Company to help me to call but even theycould not reach this number.  Theytold me this number was from Shanghai, China.  So I had no choice but to call your hotline again.  After 25 minutes, one of your advisorstook my call and I had to repeat my story to him again in order to have him putme through to talk to your senior staff 42058 again.  I asked him why he didn’t leave his direct number for me tocall him back as he promised.  Hesaid he forgot!  What a surprisinganswer to leave your customer nothing but a number that he knew clearlycouldn’t be reached.
By that time, I havewasted nearly 45 minutes to reach him, and it was already 6:20pm and thecustomer service advisor was off work. Therefore, I made an appointment with him again and we agreed that hewould call me between 9:31-10:00am on Aug 12, 2011 morning.  I took half day-off from my work towait for your senior staff to call me.
Unfortunately, Iwaited until 10:10 am and nobody contacted me again (I left both my mobilenumber and email to them).
Finally, I called the hotline again and waited for 15 minutes, an advisor put me to your on-dutyCustomer Service Manager, Ken.  After I told him my name, he realized that he should be theone responsible for calling me this morning, but since he had a meeting thatmorning, he forgot to call me again! The Apple staff didn’t keep their promises after all which disappointedme a lot.  It seems to me thatApple is unwilling to accept negative feedbacks from customers.
Ken told me thatthere was nothing he could do.
At the end, I wasreferred to a Customer Relations staff, Ms. Wing Liu.  Her response was also there is nothing she can do exceptgiving me a case number of my complaint. Since then, I never get any response from Apple regarding my case.
I believe Apple has afull record of all my conversations with your staff and thus, should be able tolook into my case thoroughly.  Isincerely hope that Apple can take my feedback seriously and respond to my complaintin a responsible manner, but not just trying to suppress your customers, whohave already been treated unfairly, from claiming their rights.   Otherwise, it is really a shamefor Apple to claim itself delivering high quality products and services allover the world.
    Yours truly,
    Tommy Fong
    Apple Customer

  • How can I securely erase my Apple TV's Hard Disk?

The 40 GB drive is too small as everyone is experiencing and I need to upgrade my Apple TV’s hard disk to a 250 GB drive that are now available. I thought of doing it myself but it is not quick and I do not have the time people are reporting. Therefore, I decided to send it to a company to do the upgrade. I would like to securely erase the hard disk before I sent it out, because the company told me that they do not return my old hard disk. However, I do not know how to erase my hard disk, especially how to make a secure erase. Will Apple’s Disk Utility see the Apple TV’s hard disk to make a secure erase? I tried but it is not coming up in its pane. I would appreciate your help, please. Thank you, Tumay

There is no way to securely erase the drive without removing it from AppleTV and using a utility.
Best thing you could do would be to do a system restore which should erase the files, and then sync with a load of rubbish a couple of times (make some dummy video/music files) if you want to overwrite stuff on the drive. Seems unlikely that the company in question would be interested enough in your files to use professional data recovery to try and recover what you had on there.

  • Problems with Apple Preview filled forms and compatibility with Windows?

Anyone else having problems with Apple Preview filled out forms and compatibility with Microsoft Windows after Lion?
I've had it happen recently with two different people, where the data I had entered on a fillable PDF form could not be seen by Microsoft Windows, but I saw my data just fine.
I don't know what version of Adobe Acrobat they were running.
    Thanks,
    kt

You will get that first message when the document has been changed in a way that invalidates the internal digital signature that's applied when a document is Reader-enabled. Certain changes are allowed (e.g., filling fields, commenting, signing) and will not invalidate the signature, but others are not. The exact cause of the change is often hard to track down, but it can be due to font problems, some type of file corruption, or something that Acrobat/Reader attempts to correct when the file is opened/saved. You will also get the message if the users system time is not correct and is currently set to some time before the document was Reader-enabled. It seems best to use the most recent version of Acrobat to enabled the documents and recent versions of Reader to work with them.
It problem is probably not related to the user using anything in the Sign pane.

  • How to I make the apple tv fill the whole tv screen on a samsung

How do I make the Apple TV fill the whole tv screen on a Samsung.  I changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 and that didn't work.

Thanks.  I know, I've been playing with the TV aspect for quite awhile.  Sometimes it actually fills the screen by "accident"; but when it "reverts", I don't know how to make it fill the screen.  I'll keep playing with the tv functions. thanks

  • Adobe Revel fills my disk like crazy

Adobe revel fills my disk quickly. I'm on a Macbook Air (128GB) with Mountain Lion. Although I opted in the preferences of the Adobe Revel software to not save originals on this computer, I've found that Revel still downloads the original files and puts them in a container to be found in het hidden 'Library' folder in the user folder. For better understanding, I'm not talking about the 'Adobe Revel' folder (container) that is created in the 'Pictures' folder in Finder. This is a very unfortunate situation since it will render my computer next to useless in a very short amount of time. I keep my originals on external drives off site and have no need for another copy on a computer with already very limited disk space.
This is even more frustrating because the software lets you specifically opt out of saving the originals on the machine, and still downloads these files. It defies as well the purpose of storing images online.
It took me some time to find out why I had 28GB of pictures on the computer, while the Pictures folder contains merely 4GB of image files total.
Is there a way to remedy this? This is a serious issue, as far as I'm concerned.

    Pattie,
    This answers my question.
Still it is somewhat confusing, since I did indeed disable the option to keep originals on the computer. More so because Revel stores these cached files in a container in a hidden Library folder, and there doesn't seem to be a limit to the cache size. If you have large picture libraries and you use Revel often, cache size expands rapidly.
It took quite some time to find out where the disk space was going. Once found, the question remains what to do, since it's normal practice to leave libraries alone, I guess that's why they're hidden.
A user adjustable cache size limit or an option to clear cache would be neat.
    Regards,
    Geert

    Geert-
Sorry you are having issues with this. Here is some information that may clear things up and help you purge the extra stuff from your Mac.
With Revel, your photos are stored in two places: Adobe’s secure cloud and the hard drive on your Mac if you have Revel installed there and have “Keep All Originals” set to “On.”  This is the default setting.  If you upload pictures and choose to "Keep all Orginals",  Revel copies the image and stores a cache of the image in the Adobe Revel library.rvl package. You can click on the package and select "show package contents" to view the images that were stored in that package. You can disable this setting if you know you have your originals stored safely elsewhere, or if you don’t have enough disk space on your Mac to accommodate all photos.
TO DISABLE KEEP ORIGINALS AND DELETE THE DATA FROM THE MAC:
    1. Before doing anything, BE SURE YOU HAVE ALL OF YOUR ORIGINALS BACKED UP SOMEWHERE.
    2. BE SURE ALL UPLOADING IS COMPLETED. Check your status to be sure nothing is still uploading, that no new uploads or changes are pending, otherwise they could be lost. Let uploads complete.
    3. Disable Keep Originals in Revel app settings (since you don't want a duplicate copy)
    4. Close Revel.
    5. Delete Adobe Revel Library.
    ... /Users/your user folder name here/Library/Containers/com.adobe.Carousel.mac/
When you relaunch Revel, you will have to wait while the catalogs sync up (which might take a bit depending on size of library) but no originals will be downloaded.
    6. Delete Pictures/Adobe Revel/Adobe Revel Library file
    7. Launch Revel. Sign in. Depending on size of library, it will take a few minutes to repopulate, download any thumbnails/previews/database info.
Please note, we cache items for preferences and performance and we cache thumbnails and previews to prevent needing to download over and over again. If you import on the Mac we'll cache some originals for performance.

  • Yet another pointless question about the practically non-existent iMac G5 Apple Hardware Test (AHT) disk.

    I have a 17" iMac G5 (iSight model) also known as model A1144, PowerMac12,1 or MA063LL/A.
Where do I download the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) disk for this machine? Apparently nowhere. However, it would really help me on my quest if I knew what I was looking for.
Does anyone know what AHT version is compatable with my machine? 2.2.1? 2.3.1?
How about the part number on the disk? I have some Intel disks that say 2Z691-5734-A that (obviously) won't work.
Is the AHT on Disk 1 or Disk 2? I'm starting to think there never was an AHT for this model.
Where do I get those ASD disks the so called "geniuses" have?

    Disk 1: 2Z691-53179-A
    Disk 2: 2Z691-5493-A
    Compatible with eMac (2005), iBook G4 (Late 2004), iBook G4 (Mid 2005), iMac G5 17-inch (ALS), iMac G5 20-inch (ALS), iMac G5 (17-inch iSight), iMac G5 (20-inch iSight), iMac (Early 2006 17-inch), iMac (Early 2006 20-inch), Mac mini, Mac mini (Late 2005), Mac mini (Early 2006), MacBook Pro, Power Mac G5 (Early 2005), Power Mac G5 (Late 2005), PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD), PowerBook G4 (17-inch Double-Layer SD)

AHT I think was on a seperate CD.

  • Numbers won't save because it filled the disk

I keep some spreadsheets on a 40 MB encrypted disk image and even though there is only 1,351 KB of visible files on the disk, Numbers has filled the entire disk image with older versions. Now Numbers can't save changes to any of those documents, and neither Numbers nor the Finder can save new documents to the disk image. Is there any way to control this behavoir and instruct Numbers to use less space?
I've alread provided feedback to Apple about this issue, but I was hoping for a work around...
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Christopher,
Another helper has suggested, offline, that it's the Versions information that inflate your storage requirement. You may File > Duplicate to create a copy of the file with no version history. After confirming that the copy is a good one, delete the original and your memory consumption should decrease.

  • Mail logs filling up disk space: why? ok to delete?

Computer spec’s: 2GHz Mac Mini with 4GB of RAM and a 250GB flash storage. I am running OS 10.9.5 and Mail 7.3.
Problem: My storage has been mysteriously filling up, with about 200 GB in “other” in “about this Mac.” I would delete files and then it would fill up again. Using WhatSize, I determined that Mail logs took up 107GB, with two files accounting for most of this (details below).
Questions: Is it safe to delete Mail logs? Why are some so big? Why are dates so random? Can I prevent large mail logs in the future?
In Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Logs, here are the dates and size of the largest files named in format: [long stream of numbers and letters]=imap.gmail.com.txt
    July 15: 55.8 GB
    Sept 3: 47.17 GB
    Aug 6: 5.43 GB
    Aug 6 3.64 GB
Then there are six files between 312GB and 867.2 GB and many others named in the above format and multiple files named in this format: [date]_GmailDelete.log dating back to May 21.
    Thank you for your help.

Hi, I'm having a very similar trouble but I do not use Gmail. I have several mail accounts, essentially from 2 mail server providers (hosting and registrar companies), most accounts in IMAP but some still in POP.
I'm on a PowerBook pro, retina 15 mid 2012, 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7, with 750 Gb SSD disk", running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
Since one week I experience the same problem, disk space filling up without appearant reasons. In the Data/Library/Logs/Mail I have 541 files (!!), some of them very huge. I have deleted a 75 Gb file and another of 13Gb, but I still have files from more than 9Gb (ten file obver 1Gb).
I have changed passwords in my accounts and even to access my hosting proividers. But no changes.
Deleting the huge files in the Logs doesn't seem to affect Mails except the fact that I have to enter all POP / IMAP and SMTP passwords :-(
In the logs, the hugest files are "2015-03-18_IMAPMailboxSyncEngine.log", 2mail.mydomainname-d44f367b-6650-4ddf-9cc6-4fe08822ab6c.txt", "2015-03-21_SocketStreamEvents.log", "137778C8-7690-48F3-877E-48D400322117-mail.mydomainename.txt", and I have plenty like that.
The question is, where the problemn comes from ??
When deleting the log files ... the problem is not solved because it continues to filling it with new logs, again ..
Thank you for your assistance and help.

  • Adding movies to apple tv form external disk

I want to be able to add a movie to Itunes from my external disk and then to apple tv, without erasin what has been added in the past but is not in itunes any more.
The memory in my computer is limited and my movies are all in a external disk. when I add a new movie to apple tv, the ones taht are allready on apple tv are erase automatically because I no longer have them in itunes.
how do I add movies withour ersing?
    regards,
    Laura

you need to keep pressing the option key on your keyboard while you drag & drop the content. do not release the option key until you are sure iTunes is just indexing the files. for example, when i add a music track in that fashion, iTunes says +analyzing volume+ ...
another option would be to uncheck +copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library+ in preferences > advanced. now you could use the regular +add to library+ command from the file menu. you will just have to remember to re-enable this option when you want to add new content to your internal library.
for movies already copied to the library, and which you want on the external:
go preferences > advanced and point iTunes' location to the external. select the movies in iTunes and right-click on the selection. choose +consolidate selection+ from the pop-up menu. when the move is done, point iTunes' location back to the internal and make sure the movies where indeed copied to the external. if so, you can delete the duplicate movie files from the internal.

  • Can I get Apple updates by hard disk

As I am not in ADSL coverage area, I have to use use Bigpond Mobile Broadband plan which has a much lower monthly GB allowance and costs considerably more than ADSL2. I have several occasions when an Apple update is required (or offered) which has subsequently turned out to eat into my monthly allowance (15gb). The last occasion was iPhoto which turned out to be a 1.6GB update!! 10% of my allowance gone in one day.
To my limited knowledge the only alternative to online updates is to get them sen by hard disk (or similar).
Is this possible or are there other alternatives?
    Any suggestions appreciated

Apple does not send out software except by the Internet. You can go to a local Apple retailer and ask if they could put an update onto your pre-formatted USB flash drive.
Alternatively, try downloading over a local public network such as the local library, Starbucks, etc.

    Dear all
i am facing a problem in my database
the database is in archive log mode and continuous archiving of log is filling up the disk space
please let me know what should i do so that at the end of activity there should be no complaints of logs filling up
i wil ensure the big disk space
please let me know what kind of administration i have to do with this issue ...

    hello Sagar
when you use RMAN for backup you can set RETENTION POLICY for window of day or redundancy for example
    RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS;
    or
    RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 3;
and when you backup use "BACKUP ... PLUS ARCHIVELOG" for example
    BACKUP DEVICE TYPE sbt
    DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
    it cause that RMAN when backup your database , backup your archived logs too ;
and about that two first CONFIGURE command
first command cause backupfiles and archived log files that backuped up before than 3 days signed obsolete in V$BACKUP_FILES view
(you can query the V$BACKUP_FILES view and check the OBSOLETE column)
second command cause backupfiles and archived log files that backuped up 3 times signed obsolete in V$BACKUP_FILES view
and if you use "DELETE OBSOLETE ..." command in RMAN it delete obsolete files
and your archived logs that backued up and are obsolete will be delete
AND you can use DBMS_SCHEDULER for synchronize this routine

  • Apple ][GS - GS/OS Disks?

    Hello Apple Support Communities,
I am now the proud owner of an Apple ][GS. I have heard of the Apple ][ systems and read about them on the Internet, but I have to admit I know very little about them. Even so, when I saw this complete, working ][GS for sale for $20 I simply had to see what this was about...
So I set up my GS and the system test checked out OK, but when I boot (after the ROM version 01 message) I am greeted by "Check Startup Device". This seems logical--as I doubt it has a hard drive, and there were no disks in either of the external drives.
After doing some more research I found that these used GS/OS, a graphical OS made by Apple for the ][GS. Using Apple's "older software list" page, I downloaded what I expected to be disk images for this GS/OS. Maybe they are, but I really can't find any way to write them to a floppy.
    -- The actual question --
I can not figure out for the life of me how to write these System 6.0.1 disks to floppies from a PC. My only Apple computers are the ][GS, an SE/30 full of pennies, and a PowerBook G4 with broken screen hinges--I would *prefer* being able to write from a PC because I have no other Mac with a working Floppy drive. I have the disk images, .sea.bin files. I was able to use StuffIt 2010 to extract them to .sea files, but after that I was stuck again... the .sea archives could not be extracted even with StuffIt, I would need to do this on an old Mac to extract the .SEA archives.
After much searching, I have come across an .SDK images, .SEA extracting archives, and even at one point a .2MG disk image. I can't figure out how to write any of these to a floppy on my PC's. Does anyone here have .DSK or .IMG copies of the System 6.0.1 disks, or the ability to make them if I beg them enough? (I have been desperately trying for 12+ hours to get these disks...)

Buying off of ebay should get you original disks.  If you want to collect items, great.  If you just want to get your computer running, search for a Mac or Apple users group near you.  We happen to have some IIGS disks but they are packed up and stored away.  I would have to dig for them.
We can find the download site and you can have the software for free.
As for creating the disks on a PC, that will only give you more problems than it is worth.  See if you can find a working Mac like a G3 to make disks for older Apple II computers.  You will be much better off in the long run.
Post back with the name of a large city near you so we can help you find recycled computers.

  • Best Practices: opmn/logs filling up disk

Has anyone experienced( I assume we all have this issue) with the logs in the $HTTP_SERVER_HOME/opmn/logs getting HUGE. I have APEX 3.0 installed on a UNIX box. Also I do not have a full install of Oracle AS, only the DB http server. What happens is that the logs fill up and the disk hits 100% so the HTTP server can't be started. We bring the DB and HTTP server down every evening and back up every morning(this is done with a scheduling tool that calls a couple of scripts) but it looks like it is only taking about half a day to fill up the logs(depends on the amount of activity on the different apps in APEX). Maybe this isn't the right place for this, if not I'll move it over to the other forums.
    Any thoughts/suggestions.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
That's an error message indicating that you're trying to run it on the same port as something else, take a look at the following thread -
    ons.log growing enormously in 10g on RHEL3
which shows you how to resolve it.

  • What is filling my disk?

Disk usage on my MacBook Pro has grown dramatically recently, and I can not find the files that are responsible.
My disk is 320GB and I am using 240GB but Finder only shows a usage of 29GB. Finders usage is reported as 3.8GB for Apps, 5.6GB for Library, 4.2GB for System and 15.3GB for Users.
Where should I be looking for the missing 200+GB?

OmniDiskSweeper is great, but did not help!
My disk is almost full, as measured by SuperDuper! which fails when it has completely filled my backup disk which is only 120GB. Control click on the disk in Finder and Get Info shows the disk as 319.73GB with 79.01GB free, yet doing Get info on the folders in the system disk only accounts for less than 30GB used.
One other application I like is GrandPerspective, which shows about what I would expect for 30GB usage. The biggest file reported on the disk is private/var/vm/sleepimage at 4GB, followed by the Parallels machine file at 3.2GB. Nothing else comes close - certainly nothing that could explain what is using more than 200GB of the disk.
Disk Utilities verifies the disk as OK.
I'm getting desperate enough to do the Windows thing and reformat/reinstall everything, but I would like to avoid that if possible.
    Any ideas?
