Apple TV/FM Radio System

Hi, I have acquired a 6500/300 which has the Apple TV/FM Radio System installed. I installed OS 8.6 and tried the TV - it tuned the TV channels OK and I got TV sound but no TV video (blank green screen), so I upgraded to 9.1 and now I have TV video but no TV sound!!! Anyone any experience of troubleshooting these things? - John.

Update: In addition to the TV/FM System software there's a Power Mac 6500 specific update you may need to get everything working. It's called the 6500 Video Input Update. Here's a link to the download: http://download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/CPU_ Specific_Updates/5500-6500/5500-6500_Video_InputUpdt.img.bin. It may help even if you're not running Mac OS 8.1 or earlier like the Readme states.
As proof of that some Performa 6400 owners running Mac OS 9.1 claim they still benefit from the 6360-64XX-54XX Update. That update was originally designed for Mac OS 7.5.X. Not Mac OS 9.1. It amazes me at Apple's ignorance of these important updates.
Just because they were released before Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.1 doesn't mean those OSes won't benefit from the updates if installed on the correct model of Macintosh. I also suspect that despite its confusing model specific name the 6500 Video Input Update may also help 6400 owners struggling to get the TV/Video System and/or TV/FM System to work with Mac OS 9.1. Both Macs use IBM PowerPC 603ev processors.
The only difference between the two Macs is the speed the processors run at. The 6500 also has a bit better onboard graphics card. The only weird thing is the 6500 doesn't have 8 MB of RAM soldered to its logic board. Only the 6400 does. The 6400 has a 40 MHz bus. The 6500 has a 50 MHz bus. That's why Sonnet's G3 uprade runs at 400 MHz in a 6400 & at 500 MHz in a 6500.

I try to find a way to connect my Iphone to my car radio. I wan to listen my mp3 and use my phone with the car radio system.

There are many ways to do this (I use the MonsterCable ipod adapter in rental cars, and the Pioneer Ipod Interface for my P7500DVDII) both with decent results. (great results if you turn on airplane mode). All GSM phones can effect stereo equipment to some degree, and the iphone is no exception. Alot of the 3rd party kits do not use shielded connections which just makes the problem that much more obvious. I found if I adjust the location of my phone in relation to the transmitter and the radio the Monster fm modulator gives satisfactory results without disabling my ability to recieve phone calls. The pioneer is the best, however I can't place the phone in the holder which was installed with the kit since it is in the DIN above the stereo (VW Jetta) and the phone constantly interferes with the amplification circuits. Moving the phone 3-4 inches fixes it.

First, check the manual or specification online, to see if your iPod model is supported. That USB port may be for plugging in a generic USB flash drive with song files on it. Or it may only support more recent iPods.
Also, if it has an auxiliary audio input port (it would look like the headphones jack on iPod), you can use something like this to connect your iPod

and just use your iPod to "play through" the car audio system.

I had the same problem after upgrading to Yosemite. Illustrator CS6 wouldn't open. I got a message saying I should 'install legacy Java SE6 runtime'.
The link didn't work - it lead to a blank page.
So I downloaded Java8 (latest version) from Oracle but didn't install it. Something told me this was not the right way to go (the problem was with Java SE6, not 8). I then called Apple (in the Netherlands, were I live) for help. I got none. The best they could do was blaming Adobe for the problem or me, for not having the latest Adobe CC app. Rubbish.
And then, magic. I tried to open Illustrator again, got the pop up message but this time the link worked. It took me to an official Apple page, with a link to download Java for OS X 2014-001. The problem is now solved.
If curious, this is the explanation Apple gives for the problem:
'Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005. On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006 or later, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled 'missing plug-in' to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.'

My child was on my mac and now I can't find my dock. I went to the apple menue then to system prefrences but "dock" isn't an option for me to use. Please help!

What options are selected and deselected if you go to System Preferences and Dock?
1. click the apple logo
2. click System Preferences
3. click Dock

It's possible your child just messed around with these settings and moved the dock to the left or right and triggered auto-hide and so forth

Apple TV Played Radio Stations for awhile

I followed the advice of one of the articles and was able to listen to Radio Stations on Apple TV, but then it suddenly stopped working. In iTunes, I created a playlist called RadioStations and added some Radio stations to it. And on Apple TV, those radio stations appeared in the playlist. It was great, for a while...I could actually listen to radio from Apple TV. But then after a day, the playlist became empty on Apple TV. The playlist is still there in iTunes, but no longer works in Apple TV. What gives?

How full is your AppleTV? The priority of syncing puts movies and tv shows before music (playlists) and photos being last.
If you recently got a new movie or tv show, if they sync over and the AppleTV sees it may need room, it will remove lower priority stuff (music/playlists, photos).
Have you tried to see if you go into streaming mode if you can access the playlist?

Apple iPod remote radio: RDS Information in Setting Europe

Hey,
last wednesday I bought that option by an local apple dealer for my Video iPod.
After setting that radio on my Video iPod to "Europe" there aren´t any RDS information; setting back to "USA", it works properly (but only in 0,02 Mhz steps outgoing from XX,x1 / x3 etc. - normaly in united states-).
Has anybody else this bug noticed? Is there a solution to fix that problem?
(please don´t tell me to switch 'USA', - here in Germany I can´t receive Radio stations on XX,x2 etc with that setting)

Just got my Radio Remote yesterday and I also cannot receive RDS on the Europe setting. Apple really needs to go back to work on this product or release an update.

This is the Radio Remote’s other obvious distinctive feature - support for RDS, a way that broadcasters can send limited text data to radios. RDS text varies from entirely absent to just a station’s name to a real-time display of artist and track names. Useful? A little. Cool? Definitely. But it’s also somewhat unreliable. The 5G iPod’s RDS feature doesn’t pick up all the text shown by our car stereo’s RDS display, and the iPod nano’s RDS seemed to pick up even less text than the 5G’s. (iLounge readers in Europe have already reported odd experiences when using the RDS feature overseas with nano.) From our perspective, this is not a critical part of the Radio Remote’s - or, actually, iPod’s - feature set, but it would be nice if it was more predictable and robust. We’re hoping for improvements in later firmware.

If anyone were vulnerable, they would not announce it. Almost always, these announcements come from interent security firms and watchdog groups.
and if they did announce it, it would be after it was fixed.

HD Radio systems

I am seeing multiple HD Radio systems for sale for use in automobiles but things are scarce for portable or home audio, or the tag keywords are not injected so that a buyer can search properly for "HD Radio" to look for those particular items that Best Buy may sell.
Am I mistaken? Has the market for these items not hit yet? For some of the portable radios I've searched, some say HD but they only list an FM tuner so it is misleading. I don't want an analog FM tuner, I am looking for a legitimate HD radio tuner.
Anyone have any suggestions?

As of today 3/20, the market hasn't changed much. Still the same 3 portable HD units that have been out there for the last couple years with a fairly new Insignia unit. The gigaware unit from Radioshack that connects to your iphone, the Coby HDR-650, and the JVC KT-HDP1. None of the units here get very good reviews with the JVC at 3 stars, and the Coby and Gigaware at 2.5 stars.
I'm sure there are other portable HD units available, but their manufacturers must not want to sell them very much because they are hard to find. Insignia's offering is a second gen HD unit (2.5 stars) that has a touch-screen, but from the reviews I've read, the first gen was better. When is this market going to open up?
I really enjoy the HD feature of my car stereo and I will never buy another unit without it. I also have Sirius, but satellite is very repetitious and even with 60 music stations, I only like about 10 of them.
So come-on HD radio, push your service and get the manufactures to make more portable type units for the home, or better yet, install HD receivers in all but the very low level home units just as they do in the automotive market. I just bought a Denon avr-2312ci ($600 retail) home theater unit, AND NO HD RADIO! From my research, only top-of-the-line Denon units have HD installed. They will sell you a separate add-on receiver for $200!

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.

Can I use non-apple earphones with radio remote?

I have a new Ipod 3g and want to buy the radio remote. Must I use the earbuds supplied with the radio remote or can I use non-apple earbuds and earphones? Will I still get good radio reception with a non-apple earphone?

Yes you can. I use Sennheiser PX100's and they work just fine.
Plug the headphones into the remote rather than the iPod to get the best reception.
