Apple TV Freezing and Acting Strange

My apple TV is 2.5 years old and its starting to do strange things. It freezes constantly when trying to navigate to my music and displays tiny white dots on the screen...also movies don't always playback properly as they freeze.
I have restored to factory default and that didn't work. I love this product but I will be reluctant to buy a new one if it has such a short life span.

Yes, letting it cool down helps tremendously.
It certainly implies a heat related issue, chances are that it'll just get worse over time then fail.
My iMac developed graphical glitches after about 15 months that were helped by ramping up internal fans, but eventually it got more and more unstable to the extent I could not use it at all. I think the GPU was at fault though it may have been the logic board - as GPU was soldered to logic board whole logic board had to be replaced anyway.
With AppleTV's I don't think they're economical to repair so Apple don't offer it for out of warranty devices.
There is a tiny fan in AppleTv - it's always possible that has failed too.

  • 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2008) Freezing and Acting Strange

    Hello All,
I don't have the original disks, and cannot run a hardware test, so no idea what is wrong.  My computer will freeze frequently, often times when I am trying to do multiple things, watch video (flash like hulu), or try to access the items like wifi, battery, date/time or spotlight at the top of my screen. The computer also occassionaly will not respond to the trackpad or keyboard.  The sound icon also frequently X's out, and I cannot adjust the volume from my keyboard.
I have tried an unsuccessful clean install of Lion, was able to recover from Time Capsule, and it was behaving like this even with snow leopard.  Actually, ever since getting a new Logic Board from apple on a previous service. (Sent in for a top case issue, and for some reason they replaced the top case and logic board...)
I called Apple Care the other day, they reccomended the clean install, but the computer is out of warranty.  My only saving grace would be if this IS actually a logic board issue from there replacement and they were willing to service it again based on that.
Anybody experience anything similar or have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Please boot in safe mode and test. Same problems? After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode.)

  • I Book G4 12 inch freezing up and acting strangely

Recently we bought my wife a 12 inch I Book G4. It is a 1.2 megz processor. We have upgraded the ram, and recently replaced the keyboard. In the last few days it has started acting strangely.
While using Pages, and Safari, it begins to "spin" and that application freezes up. Not only does that application freeze up, but when we click on the other applications, they just "bounce" on the dock, but never open up. It is interesting that when we turn off the airport extreem, and then turn it back on, everything goes back to normal.
This is very strange behavior. Has anyone run in to this before? What should we do?

Wow, it's good to know i'm not alone in this. I've never had any trouble with my Ibook before this. This morning (or yesterday?) I installed the recent security update, it's been doing that ever since. First it won't allow any NEW connections (already connected applications, AIM, work), when that starts it won't load other applications then the computer freezes with the beach ball. And it's not safari, because I use firefox with the same results. I would love to archive an install, but somewhere along the way my Tiger disk went missing. If any of you find a solution other than restarting and waiting for it to happen again, i'd love to hear it.

  • Preview is freezing and acting weird

Ever since I've upgraded to Leopard, Preview is acting really strangely with PDFs. It freezes constantly for a long time, then finally completes the action. It never quits itself.
It happens when I'm scrolling through, searching for a word, almost anything. These are not huge files, just articles. Anywhere from 50 to a few hundred kb. I never had this problem in the old version of Preview. Any ideas?

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem occurs there. If not, then you have conflicts between various preferences files or a corrupted one. See the steps I posted for resolving these at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4703015
If so, it's system-wide and I suggest manually downloading and reapplying the 10.5.1 update.

  • Application freezing and recovering & Strange behaviour in Thread Dump & GC

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in my SWINGS application. The application is a real time data streaming application its working in TCP/IP sockets, which is reading and writing data in string format. I noticed that the data streaming getting freeze sometimes and it recovers after a few minutes. To find out why it is behaving like that i took the Thread Dump and Garbage Collection Trace of the application and found some thing strange. Find below the line taken from the Thread Dump, the third line in the log below shows that the time have jumped backwards, I don't know why that happened.

Have you used any profilers to analyze the logs? It is very difficult to read it just like that.
I use IBM Monitoring and Diagnostic Tools for Java™. I think it does support Sun and IBM JVMs. Try out and let me know how it goes.

  • New Macbook pro keeps freezing and acting up?

I just got my nre 13in macbook pro last thursday (June14) and since then it was froze thrice. One was when I was downloading a game demo, and two more times when I was trying to watch a movie online. The whole system just froze each time, and I had to force shut down by holding down the power button then powering it back up. Then most recently, when I was on a skype call, the whole screen just blacked out, and my call was dropped etc, and it turned back on by itself after 10-20 seconds. I'm new to this whole mac thing, is there anything I should do? Or well, what should I do?

How much RAM do you have? Are you running off battery or by MagSafe...?
What is forgotten is that OSX is based on UNIX server, well all UNIX can act as a server but if it has a lot of App open it will like Windows use the disk space for virtual memory and this too can topple OSX. If you have a slow internal drive that will most certainly make for these problems.
I'd make sure that all but a few Apps are running. I'd also reboot your WiFi router, unplug it from the wall and the cable or ADSL modem and disconnect the modems from the connection too. Then after tne minutes reconnect them all. Also if it's cable call the company and have them remote reboot your modem too.
Aside from that you might have a rare MB problem, try zapping the PRAM.....
Failing that if you have just bought it take it ASAP to the Genius bar and get some help. Apple customer care is what makes Apple the best company to buy from. I'm not too fond of the design leading function but Apple care is wonderful and you should go to your local store. Do this while your computer can still be returned: it means they will exchange you computer if there is a hardware problem rather than make you wait for a repair....go now!:)
And you are not alone despite anyone telling you this never happens to Apple products. I've had this problem more than once and Apple took care of it.
Try rebooting and just running one App before you take it into the apple store. Good luck!

  • Lightroom freezing and acting up

Lightroom is constantly freezing. I've installed the latest updates, but it appears to continue to act up. It no longer shows where I've added brush strokes to my images. It also displays the picture's file name in big white letters at the top right of the image, which is just really annoying, mostly because I can't figure out how to get it off. The biggest problem is the freezing. It freezes so bad that I have to force my computer to shut down.
Can anyone help me fix lightroom, the brush issue and file name display issue?
    Thank you
Oh, and the latest update I installed was lightroom 4.4. I also have a windows computer.

H will hide or unhide the "pins" for your brushing.
Letter I (eye) will cycle through different display options for the text in the  corner of the photo (but on my computer its on the left, not on the right)
Frequent freezes/crashes are usually not Lightroom but an operating system or hardware issue. Could be any one of a gazillion things. I would start by making sure your video driver is up to date.

  • Apple Mail Search is acting strange

    Hello.
I have been having some major issue with Apple Mail (6.5) in its search function.
I have been a heavy user of Apple Mail (over 15,000 emails on the program- and archived every year) for many years, and never had this issue.
When I search for a key word it does not find it!  I noticed that this not to work on emails in my In Box or Sent Boxes (Gmail email POP).  If I move a specific email to a newly created folder On My Mac and then search, the keyword will be found in the email in that new folder- but never on the orignal Inbox or Sent Box!  Also, the search works fine for senders of emails (by name) if I search for them.
The issue is mainly in finding a key word in the content of an email and particurly in the In and Sent boxes!
I tried EVERYTHING I could find online from reindenxing the whole Macintosh HD, deleting Envelope Files... I even deleted Apple Mail and then reinstalled it from Mountain Lion DVD!  STILL same issue.
To test things, I exported Mailboxes to another Macbook Air I have (brand new) and then imported these mailboxes into the correct location (Inbox, Sent...etc), and the search there worked fine!
ANY IDEAS, as this is frustrating and I am seriously considering switching to new email client after all these years.
    Thanks,

The mail search uses Spotlight to find results, so your problem may be more of a corrupted Spotlight index. To recreate your Spotlight index, go to System Preferences->Spotlight, click the Privacy tab at the top, and add your Boot drive here (usually Macintosh HD). Close and re-open this preference page and then remove the Macintosh HD from the privacy tab.
Within about 30 seconds, you should notice the Spotlight magnifying glass icon in the top menu bar will say it is indexing, and it may take about 15+ minutes to complete. Hopefully that will return your missing search results in the Mail.app.

  • Final Cut Pro crashes at launch and acting strange

FCP crashes when I start the program. It started doing it late yesterday afternoon. I launch the program and get the crash window asking to try again or report to Apple. It happend a few times. I trashed the prefs and tried again. Same thing happened. In a minor fit of frustration, I kept clicking try again and on the 3rd time, it launched. I opened my project and worked for a bit. Everything worked fine. I quit FCP and I got a message saying the settings have been changed and it gave me the option of using the old settings or new settings. When I went to launch FCP again, I got the same crash message and on the 3rd time I clicked try again, it launched but it opened a new project instead of opening the last project opened. When I quit, I got the same old/new settings window. This has happened 4 times today. I've tried choosing both options and the same thing happens. I'm running OSX 10.4.9 and FCP 5.1.4. Any ideas as to what's going on?
Mac Pro dual 3.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You can decide to keep trying to debug this for a few days or just reinstall the app. Normally, I do not suggest reinstalling anything except as a lst resort but my recent experience suggests this is your easiest route.
Be prepared to do a simple reinstallation from your source disks and to run all of the updates again. when you load the installer disks, just select FCP as the only product to install. It will write right over your existing files or you can safely trash them before hand.
I have no idea what caused my FCP to do this shut-down-on-launch dance but mine was not coming back up after three tries. I have no idea what caused it and nothing I know how to do solved it. So, after two days of screwing around, I just reinstalled. Reconfiguring your prefs and faves can be a hassle. You might want to print screen shots of those screens if you can get to them.

  • Freezing Screen with strange graphic bugs blackout computer crash & restarts

    Hi All,
I'm a videographer and editor and work with some high-ress video files and my iMac often falls out during work or if I'm running Adobe premiere and Photoshop at the same time. My iMac should handle it but it won't. It freezes and gives strange graphic colors and blocks on the screen. (see photo's)
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Your GPU may be failing, I would recommend Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support, run this 2-3 times and if erorrs appear take it in for service. If you have AppleCare call them immediately. If the machine is less than 1 year old, then PLEASE book a Genius appointment and bring the machine in to be looked at.

  • Apple TV freeze then reboot when flipping through music

    Hi,
I have an issue where my Apple TV freezes and then reboots when I flip thorugh the music files. The music is playing and I switch to the next song but it seems that if do this too fast repeatedly the unit feeezes and then reboots. It varies how many times I have to switch the song but approximately 10 times before it happens.
It only started happening after the newest update.

I'm having a similar problem. I stream my music collection from my computer hooked up to an external hard drive. For the last few days, apple tv freezes right after I choose "Shared Music". After some time it reboots ... but now I can't play music AT ALL! I have a very large music library and amusing the newest update too.

  • Has anyone had a problem with Illustrator lagging behind one letter when you're typing? For example, when I type "apple," the "a" doesn't appear until I type the "p." I only have one window open, and I restarted, but it's still acting strangely.

For example, when I type "apple," the "a" doesn't appear until I type the "p." I only have one window open, and I restarted, but it's still acting strangely.

    Hi Swampxiix,
How many programs do you have open while you're working in Illustrator? Do you have a lot of layers or art boards?
It could be that your computer was being slowed by too many programs, or a complex design file. The age of your computer could also be a culprit.

  • IPad mini acting strange. Apps open and close randomly. Any ideas?

My iPad mini acts strange. Apps will randomly open and close and I have no control over it. I have reset it to factory and started all over but it is still doing it. Any ideas on what I should do?

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Skipping Problem and Ipod acting Strange

I brought an Ipod Video 30GB in march 2006
Recently it has started having the following problems
*it started freezing up in the middle of playing.
*It has also stopped loading tracks. It'll bring up the screen for the next track, sit there for a couple seconds with the track on 0:00 and then go on to the next track (without playing it either, on and on).
*The drive emits strange whirring sounds like a Hard disk being struck or like a CD drive trying to read a faulty CD but of course on a smaller scale
*sometimes when i try to switch it on it freezes with the apple icon
*it gets struck in the middle of a song and keeps continously replaying the little bit over and over again
I've been restarting it four or five times a day at work, mostly for the freezes. After a restart, it's good for an hour or two, then POW.
I have tried every trick in the book, like updating, resetting, formatting and restoring
I tried taking it to the apple service centre and they claim there is nothing wrong.
Now what am i to do???
Should i sell it off and buy a new one or can this problem be solved??

If you bought the ipod new in march, it should still have its warrenty, so it shouldn't cost anything to fix, just have to pay 29 US dollars for shipping and handeling, soory don't know how much it is in india
