Can I use Netflix on my Apple TV gen 1?
sure problem is that the app can only be paired with the iOS device it's installed on to the Apple TV using the physical remote
you can borrow or buy any apple remote it's the same remote used for all of them and for apple computers which come with remotes
setup the remote app on the iOS device and return the remote to the one you borrowed it from
an alternative could be universal remotes my logitech harmony act fully the role of remote and can be programmed using the computer

I have tried to restore my Apple tv (gen 3 and win 8.1) according to the Apple description but it fails. I have tried three different usb cables with no luck. iTunes does not seem to recognise that i have connected the Apple TV via usb. Any suggestions?

Apple tv gen 1 and 2 jerky playback.
I have had this issue since i first purchased atv1 when they first came out....jerky playback/lag/ slight delay..whatever you call it..i upgraded my modem to an N series..i got apple extreme and ditched the belkin..i bought apple express......extended the range......
i bought atv2 thinking maybe it will fix the problem....nope.I have all Apple hardware except the modem and download via wifi..(i have tried ethernet direct and sill the same)...i hassled my ISP and now have around 6mbps.....still have the lag.....i recently downloaded from foxtel..(ethernet) to compare and playback is perfect...what;s the go with Atv....? i am far too gone now to just leave this and accept it as normal...i still have atv 1 on a separate tv and still the same old lag.....any help or suggestions would be most welcome before i ask apple for full refunds of all the movies/tv shows i have bought..i would rather use Apple to buy tv shows and movies than Foxtel in priciple...but i am running out of ideas......when i first went to support originally Apple hadn;t heard of this....?Same with 3rd Gen too. I made a movie in Final Cut Pro, exported as SD, 720p and 1080p. Plays back smooth on Mac, iPad, iPhone etc... but on AppleTV 3rd gen, it's dropping about half the frames.

First time using this site; not sure if I'm doing it right.
My apple tv which has always worked beautifully is not picking up airplay from my ipad. It is picking up the audio, and it will certainly do that "mirroring" thing where you watch a grainy computer screen on your tv, but it won't work the way it used to. Any help? I have plugged and unplugged, reset and restarted everthing to no avail. Icons are available, I see the apple tv option on all devices but it just won't do it's thing. Help!

Sometimes a simple power cycle of your your wireless network can resolve some AirPlay issues. I would also recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close.

Has anyone experienced same issue?
I have read of others having had this button dissapear. Apparently if you totally shut the pad down and reboot it will then reappear.

My Apple TV gen 3 has stopped downloading shows from Netflix. All I get is an error message. I have logged out and back into Netflix. All of my other Apple products work well with Netflix.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore) -
Netflix streaming has just arrived in Canada and the new Apple TV seems a great way to easily access the Netflix content.
On Apple's Canadian website they clearly show that Netflix can be streamed on the Apple TV +"...Since Apple TV lets you access your Netflix account directly from your HDTV, you can ditch all the computer-to-TV adapters and skip straight to the part where you press Play."+
The confusion lies with Netflix, their website doesn't show the Apple TV as a supported device, so I called them today to ask if the new Apple TV was supported and they said that it isn't!
Has anyone tried the new Apple TV with Netflix in Canada?I completely disagree with you vazandrew , it WILL work with a simple software update (any techno babble bs that says it won't is strictly just that, BS). It's like saying the Roku streaming devices have been a superior product over the ATV 1st gen because as you know, Roku's have insanely great processing power in their devices.
Which brings me to my next point: Why can I stream Netflix on last years model of an iPod Touch? Processing power? Hmmm, UHHH NO! A software update by a third part developer nonetheless. No coincidence there.
Personally, I would be highly disappointed if they don't upgrade through a software update. Furthermore, I think the lack of storage is a step in the wrong direction. I don't want to have to stream from another device or computer the content I have purchased, I prefer to sync my content and keep it on the ATV until I decide otherwise.
If there isn't an update by the holiday season, then I'll just get a Roku device. In the end, it has better streaming services and options sans the compatibility with iTunes. -
My main PC with my Itunes Library just crashed. I still have all my music on Apple TV, Ipod Touch (Gen 2), and Iphone 4 (verizon). How can I get everything set up on a new PC and working ?
I downloaded Itunes 10.2 on new desktop, ran sync with my ipod touch (Gen 2) and have all my music on new PC. Just can't get it to sync with my Apple TV (Gen1). I have made music purchases on Apple TV and cannot get them to Ipod/Iphone? Help

purchasing a movie from apple tv has stopped working. I click on "movies" and it takes me back to the same screen instead of the movies available. I have updated software, unplugged the modem & apple tv box, & the tv; Netflix still works!
Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore). -
I am using ethernet and am using a Linksys SE1500 5- port fast etherner switch, i cant seem to sign in on the apple for anything although I have accounts set up in itunes/apple and netflix . Any suggestions PLEASE have spent 3 hours trying everything I can think of. Any help will be appreciated!
I have a linksys router but it isn't strong enough to get to this computer, so we are using ethernet.

Hulu plus, and netflix not working on Apple TV Please help
Hulu plus, netflix and itunes store wont open on my apple tv. I cheked the internet connection and apple tv says it is conceted to my wi-fi. The internet and hulu and netflix will all work on my other devices in my home but just keep getting can not access at this time messages from the Apple TV- We dont have cable so it is really bad that the apple tv stoped working can anyone help! please,
Power cycle the ATV and router.
If the issue persists, ensure that the the DNS settings on the ATV are set to automatic.
Also, if using a proxy or VPN to connect to the Internet, try bypassing. -
New apple user, just got new iPod touch gen 5 and there is no App Store on it. Restored it twice and this does nothing. What do I do, help please :(
Has it been disabled via Settings -> General -> Restrictions?
I assume you have checked other pages of apps by swiping to the left from the home screen?

What am I doing wrong? I have hi-speed cable internet and N wireless WiFi.
AppleTV and Netflix movies and TV work great - not buffering at all???There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues! -
I have iTunes 11 on a Windows 8.1 PC. It is streaming to a 3rd Gen Apple TV. Movies and TV Shows seem to play fine. Music will stream for about 10 - 16 songs, then just stop. I have to reset everything, then it will repeat the cycle. This happens regardless of wire or wireless connection. I would suspect that there is something wrong with the network, or Apple TV, except that movies and TV Shows seem to be fine. My music library is about 3700 songs, all legit, either imported from source or puchased through iTunes. This one has me stumped and frustrated!
I thought that may have been the case too. I set the power settings to compensate but still the same. I also done things like reset the router and Apple TV to factory. Starting to think it may actually be the Apple TV, but it just doesn't make sense ?!?
