Apple TV Gen 3? Video issues
Recently on 11-29-2014 I purchased a brand new Apple TV from Target. I finally had some time to set it up today 12-4-14. I bought a pack of brand new HDMI cables and hooked the Apple TV up to the nice new LG 40" LED TV that I have in my room. I plugged in the HDMI and then the power into the apple TV and nothing happened. So I then went and changed it to the other HDMI port and then repluged in the apple TV. This time I got the apple logo saying that it was starting up and then suddenly I see the screen get all static like as if it was a bad screen and image that was there disappears. Sometimes if I wait long enough the TV starts to use voice over and it tells me what it is doing but that is the only thing coming from the TV. I've tried two new out of the packaging HDMI cables and a cable that I have been using for a bluray player for the last couple of months so I know for a fact that at least one if not all of the HDMI cables work.
Any video content streamed from a home NAS device through iTunes to any of my four apple TV's reveals this AV sync problem. It can be either content ripped and stored on the NAS or purchased through iTunes and stored on the NAS device. Video streamed directly from Netflix, as an example, does not reveal this problem. I would naturally assume it had to do with my equipment if this had not occured after several years of flawless performance and the timeing of the problem occuring right after the Apple TV 6.0 update. BTW, I actually have my media library stored on three separate NAS devices and it does not make a difference which device the source material is originating from. As far as if the problem occurs when watching on iTunes...I use a PC and watching video stored on my system in iTunes is unwatchable. Both the video and audio stutter significantly. No problem watching the same material using a windows media player though. Hmmmm.

Apple TV gen 3 video freezes, audio stops
I have two Apple TV gen 3 units in my home, both are running the latest version of the firmware. I have a collection of movies in iTunes on my PC that are all HD in supported formats both video and audio. My problem is that almost every time now when I'm watching a movie from the Apple TV, after a while the video will start to skip and get jerky, the audio often stops working completely even if the video is still playing. Most of the time the remote for the Apple TV also has no effect on the unit, I can hit pause or back and nothing happens. The unit won't respond and just keeps going. Normally I have to pull the power cord and let it reboot before I can continue watching the movie. That usually helps for a while, but almost guaranteed I'll have to do that again at least once or twice more before the movie is over.
This only started happening after the most recent firmware update, and only in the last few months of usage. It also only happens if I'm playing HD movies out of my home iTunes library. Netflix and other videos sources like YouTube are not affected and seem to work perfectly fine. I'm not sure why its only my movie collection causing this issue. As I said, all of my movies used to play just fine on the same Apple TV, its only recently that these issues have come up.
I even tried swapping out the Apple TV with a second one in my kids play room. It has the same problems, but one isn't quite as bad as the other. So I'm wondering if this is something other people have noticed as well, could it be a firmware issue, some kind of glitch in the OS? Or has something else changed?
I don't think it has anything to do with my home network, its all wired gigabit ethernet (NO WIFI), buffering is fast and works fine, the jerky video and audio issues occur even if the play bar shows there is buffered video ahead. I really don't understand what the problem is and its driving me nuts. Any tips, ideas or suggestions? I was hoping Apple would release a new version of Apple TV soon so I can just replace these with a more powerful unit. Unfortunately I'm still waiting. Any suggestions or feedback is appreciated.Nevermind - the issue was my storage system where the movies resided. There was a RAID controller issue causing the problem and once I replaced it and re-configured my storage media, everything is working fine now! There is still a bit of jerky video now and then, but that happens even when the video is fully buffered.

Ok. I'm on my second iPod here. Just got this one as a gift and am having trouble loading vidoe and photos to it. I'm on a Titanium PowerBook running the latest version of OS X. My boyfriend is on a pc and also has a 5th gen iPod. I connect either iPod to his pc, and all the tabs that should be there come up in the summary in his iTunes. It says my iPod is up to date. I connect to my computer and only the Summary, Music, Podcasts and Contacts tabs show up. I'm on the latest version of iTunes as well. It does say, however, that my iPod is Windows formatted. I take my iPod to work and connect to my G5, and everything is fine there too. So what do I have to do to set up my laptop at home to be able to upload videos and photos to this iPod???? I'm not finding anything in the discussions that's hitting my particular problem....

a[v]update: i did the archive and reinstall with my os and then ran software update. my os is clean and current, and the ipod is working perfectly.

Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help
Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at 58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV... from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work... i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.

I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS... in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings.... after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player.... everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.

Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?
I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?
Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

So I have purchased about 30 or so HD videos from the iTunes Store. I have been downloading the 1080p versions of the film. On my Apple TV 3 all the videos show up and I can stream and play them accordingly. However, on my first gen Apple TV...the videos don't even show up in my list of movies. I have verified that my old first gen is displaying 1080p to my led tv..so I'm not sure what else to do. I can download the 720p versions of the film and they show up..but I shouldn't have to do that for purchased content. I have two first gen apple rv's and three new led 1080p tvs so I know the issue isn't the tvs. Please help!!!!Hello mountaindewbass,

HT4367 Apple TV, gen 3 cannot mirror
I have my new Apple TV, gen 3. I can mirror my iPad for the first time and then, cannot see the mirror on/off any more. No problem for music, video and photo streaming, but just no mirroring? Any help or suggestion?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment. -

With the newest Apple TV Gen 2 software up-date, My TV Shows are not sorting in alphabetical order.
They show up fine and sorted in iTunes.
Any ideas?

AppleTV Gen 1 store issues after AppleTV Gen 3 installed
Hello community
I am hoping the issues I am experiencing are hopefully minor and can be resolved. I recently installed my new AppleTV Gen 3 and the following I have experienced. Firstly I can only connect to the store through my AppleTV Gen 3 and purchased movies, if I want music it states I must sign up to the cloud. My biggest issue thou is after connecting my new AppleTV Gen 3 I can now no longer connect to the iTunes Store with my Apple TV Gen 1. For this reason I suspect any purchased items will no longer play on the Apple TV Gen 1. Is this device dying a slow death as determined by Apple with no support for the latest iTunes or is this a known issue and there is a working solution. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advancedAppleTV1 should still work. It will not however play newer 1080p HD purchases, nor can it access content from the cloud.
Some time ago I had issues playing newer content on AppleTV1 which was solved by buying a f r e e TV show episode from itunes on the AppleTV itself - seemed like some kind of authorisation issue.
Like you I am dismayed that AppleTV2 and 3 do not allow me to browse Music/Music videos in the store let alone play purchases form the cloud without itunes match subscription - these things should be separate. -
Apple TV (gen 3) sometimes doesn't wake up
I love my new Apple TV! The video quality is unreal. The other night I rented The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and thought "I think I may never buy another Blu-Ray". But there is one small problem: sometimes it doesn't wake up in response to Remote app on my iPad or iPhone, which is how I usually control it. If I wake it up using the IR remote, it will then respond to the app. I never had this problem with my gen 2 Apple TV, is anyone else seeing this? It also seems to wake up randomly on its own, sometimes I'll be watching TV and see the LED come on.
I'm having the same wake up and flashing LED issue with my 3rd generation Apple TV (2012). Also the same as your scenario; my 2 generation (2010) does not display the problems. But it is more of a headache for me since having two little kids in the house, sometimes the Remote App is the only way we can operate it when the IR remotes goes missing.
I'm starting to wonder if it is more of a hardware issue than software, since both Apple TV are operating on the same iOS 5.0. I may try making an appointment with at a Genius Bar next week to be sure. -
Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...
I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...
Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

Kernel Panic on iMac with Pixelated Video Issues
One of our work iMacs has been having weird pixelate video issues recently. Sometimes previews of program windows will freeze on screen... and as you move the window around the screen "erases" this preview from the LCD... It is a 2006 24" White iMac 6,1. Windows 7 64 bit, iPod touch 2nd gen, iTunes sync issue
I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium and am frustrated to death. I have spent days wiping out my iPod trying something different an only to start all over again. I am not a n00b to computers and only ask because I only find a trail of tears and none of the problems I see look specifically like mine.
I have been following this issue since Feb 2010 and notice reports that are sort of similar back to Jan of 2009. Anyway here is my problem.
iTunes will recognize my iPod touch 2nd Gen. iTunes will "sync" apps and data. iTunes will not sync movies, music, books, or software upgrades.
I get an error code that changes depending on what I am trying and seems to lead to no where. I can't honestly remember the code anymore.
I can sync with this same computer using Windows XP 32 Pro win a VirtualBox VM, but can not do it directly from within Windows 7. So hardware and drivers are not the issue. I reinstalled iTunes with a Vista 64 bit install that I found online which appeared to work temporarily then ultimately I ended up back where I started.
I actually switched to Windows (from linux) because I got tired of the VirtualBox method. Quite ironic that I am still facing the same issue.
On top of the not being able to sync properly from Windows 7 64 bit. Everytime I try I have to put in hours of work to get my Ipod back to working order as iTunes only allows you to sync with one computer and is slower that snail poop in January. In order to try again I have to be willing to commit to the problems that I am most likely to encounter.
So my questions are
1. Does anyone have a clue why Apple has not fixed this issue? or is there a solution I don't know about?
2. Is there an easier way to attempt a fix that does not require me to re organize my 70+ apps on my iPod?
P.S. I do not have an intel based chipset as that seems to have been an issue for others. I have

Have tried direct to MB USB and through powered HubAre you sure that you downloaded the 64 bit version and not the 32 bit version? I would delete the download and try again. You also might want to look at the iTunes forum since youu have an iTunes problem and not an iPod problem.

My IPOD Classic Video 5. Gen. showed videos, but now it does no longer show them, instead i see a black picture on my IPOD and it doesn`t work. I have to restart it every time, i try it. i restore the software with itunes, but the problem still exists.
The Videos are showed up front 4 months, but now they are no longer to be seen. When you star a video first the hard drive starts, but then it stops and hangs up. I have to restart it, starting with the apple logo....Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc. -
Apple TV gen 3 - AirPlay not visible on wireless network

I've just bought a new Apple TV gen 3 however I could not get the airplay to work properly (both on my iPad 2 & iPhone 4s).
A little background info regarding my current network setup, due to the location of my room from my living area I could not get strong signal from my wireless network. To solve the problem I've installed an additional access point in my room with different SSID but utilizing the existing internet access via a powerline network adapter. This has solved my wireless coverage issue within my home.
As my Apple TV is installed in my room, I connected it to the wireless network in my room. Everything is working well (i.e. access to internet, connecting to my iTune account etc and YouTube are no problem) except AirPlay. I can't see the AirPlay icon on both my other apple devices. However, I can use the Remote app on my iPad to control my Apple TV but just cannot use AirPlay to stream anything from my other devices to Apple TV.
I tried everything such as reset the Apple Tv & reinstalling its software, soft resetting my other devices and forgetting the network etc but to no avail. I suspect that the problem may be related to my wireless network so I tried connecting the Apple Tv to my original wireless network, it can connect but the signal is rather weak. I then connect my iPad to the same network. This time I did get the AirPlay to work but due to the weak signal on the iPad using the original wireless network AirPlay keeps dropping off nd when it works it is very slow.
Is there any ways of getting AirPlay to work properly over the new network in my room which has much stronger signal if I connect both my oPad nd Apple TV to it? Pls help....Hi jcool17,
Thanks for replying. Yes I do have 2 SSID broadcasting and all my devices are apple devices are connected to the same SSID which is in my room but AirPlay won't work.
No, my current wireless devices in my room is not Apple. Used to have an Apple Airport Express but it died on me after 3 years. Got a good deal on a Dlink which I bought to replace the The AE.
And yes, AirPlay is turned 'on' on my Apple TV.
