Apple TV Gen1 Not syncing

When I sync newly purchased tv shows downloaded from the store on my iMac to apple tv gen1, I get:
"The Apple TV is not responding.
Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
I've checked the firewall settings so that apple tv and iMac can communicate freely. Still no joy. I'm not convinced the problem is to do with firewall settings as I've tried the sync switching the security settings off. I think it's something to do with the latest software upgrade for gen1.

Try restarting router, computer and AppleTV1 - I had this intermittently a few weeks ago.

We use Good on iPads and Android over our Cisco Wireless solution with no issues.

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account. After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail. Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Apple TV is not syncing music

Could someone help me with this? My Apple TV (V 3.0.1)was working fine with iTunes (V9.0.1.8)and all of a sudden, after a sync it erased music from the ATV and refuses to re-sync it from my PC to the ATV. I´ve re-started the ATV (even going to the factory setings) and it just won´t sync the music, but it does sync photos and movies. Thanx

I'm having the exact same problem also. I'm syncing from a MAC and it basically quit syncing music and music video after the latest software update, everything else syncs fine just as everything did prior to the software update. I tried everything jm mentioned with the same results. I can stream music and videos to Apple TV but it will not sync. Another weird thing is actually there is like 5 songs I purchased from iTunes for my daughter after the Apple TV software update and only those songs will sync over.

Apple TV (2) Not Syncing with iTunes 10 on MacBook Pro OSX 10.6.8

My Macbook Pro was recently updated to OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes 10. I cannot get my Apple TV (2) to sync with it. It is connected to the internet and I can watch trailers on the Apple TV as well as see/listen to my pics and songs from before the sync. In wireless settings, everything is set up properly.
The TV does not appear on the left menu bar in iTunes. Halp!

ATV2 does not show up in iTunes nor does it have syncing abilities. You have to enable home sharing in iTunes and ATV2 (in settings) and it you library will show up on the computers tab on the ATV

I get the same problem occassionally. I find that on itunes if after i get the firewall message i click somewhere else on the apple tv droplist (for example music sub tab) then back to the apple tv main tab and click sync button it now works. No idea why it just does. Worth a shot if you have not tried it.

Apple TV - Either Not Syncing or Syncing Very Slow

I went to use my Apple TV (latest model) and found that all of my content was no longer on there. So I reset it, re-established a link to my iMac and started a new sync. It took 14 hours to sync 1.88 GB of content. I restarted the iMac and Apple TV and it started the sync from right at the start again. I have tried resetting my Apple TV and starting a new link between the two - and the same thing - very slow. I have also noticed that it is syncing all content in iTunes and not just the content I have chosen. I have tested my wireless speed from my Time Capsule and everything looks OK.
I am also having an issue with my older Apple TV. I have it set to standby (power off), but every time I start iTunes, it comes on (but does not sync). Is this normal?
I have the latest version of OSX and iTunes.
Any thoughts?

Turn off security on the network. If the ATV connects then you know it is a security setting on the router.

Some purchased content on Apple TV will not sync back to iTunes

I have purchased a series on my AppleTV which downloads every week, as expected. I manually sync the AppleTV with my iTunes library located on my iMac. Upon using "transfer purchases" from iTunes, only three of the six downloaded show episodes actually transfer over. Subsequent attempts result in nothing being transferred.
To further troubleshoot, I unlinked the iTunes library from the Apple TV, using the Apple TV UI. Everything EXCEPT the three episodes that would not transfer over, and a couple of rented movies, was removed from the Apple TV. I then re-connected to my usual iTunes library, attempted to transfer purchases, but with no luck.
Any ideas?

I have the same issue where I can make purchase via itunes and it syncs with ATV. However the reverse from ATV to itunes does not. I saw an earlier post in the year to deauthorize the account on itunes that fixed the problem- tried that on itunes and then selected the transfer from ATV to itunes on the file menu and was unsuccessful. All software is current using itunes 8.02.2
It was working previously so I am not sure if an ATV software upgrade caused this or not.

Itunes 11.2.2.3 update - AVOID. contacts wiped out of all my apple products. does not sync contacts in windows.

I updated Itunes on my windows 8 laptop today (30 May 2014).
When i synced my ipads and iphone all the contacts were wiped out of the devices. Even though the contacts are intact in my Outlook folder.
I have tried everything to sync the same back.
Restoring does not help as the backup files do not have the contacts.
I do not how to download the previous version of Itunes as the updates have been happening automatically and old files are not stored locally.
Any assistance in this would be highly appreciated.

I installed 11.2.2 my ipad would not back up, so updated uppad software via wireless, asked to connect to Itunes, ipad wiped and restored (thanks again apple) installed and uninstalled itunes many times (total uninstall), freezes everytime i try to open apps, wont sync. Running windows xp, have also tried on brand new pc running windows 8 decided to try ipad there, can see apps but wont sync them, syas they are not availabale, checked folder, they are there, although in music folder? Have spent hours on line. Sorry thios is a rply cant see how to post a new?

Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.
I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.
If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.
This has always worked before.
Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

I'm stuck here having exactly the same problem. The funny thing is, it all started since that Mail for Mavericks update, 1.0 which I installed yesterday, which irronically stated it should solve some instability problems (that I was not experincing at all) and made things go completely wrong. I tried to delete and add the account again, and it is not making things better. The weird thing is that I can see the content of some folders, such as deleted items, and inconsistent as it is, it might not display it anymore after I try to go back to this folder. For example, I thought I solved the problem this afternoon, after I had deleted the account and added it for the third time, and let my computer sit there for a while and sync. When I returned to my Mac after an hour, I was under the impression that it synced my inbox correctly, but then when I clicked on another folder to see what's inside and got back to inbox afterwards, it was completely empty again. Mail is just very unstable and the problems are increddibly inconsistent. I think I am now going to try to add the account manually. I will let you know what happens.

Apple Tv will not sync some movies from Itunes.

I have had some issues with syncing my apple tv with itunes. I have overcome the initial issue of incomplete syncs etc. I now have an issue where only some of my movies in itunes are syncing. All movies to date have been ripped from DVDs using the Handbrake application. I have always set it to Apple TV which default to MP4. Has anyone had any experience with this. Is there a setting I am missing, or a better way to rip movies than Handbrake.
I am using an Imac running Leopard and all software is up to date.

Group names and content from Apple Address Book not syncing to iphone

My contact from Apple Address Book Syncs, but no group names get down loaded. Clicking The "group" icon in the iphone status bar bring up an empty page from which I cannot recover back to all contacts without restarting the device. In Essence the contact app is stuck in a blank group page.

I also have this issue. My contacts sync fine from the computer to Mobileme, but the groups don't sync to the iphone. This leaves me with an empty "Groups" window as described by eltons. If I sync through itunes, with Mobileme contacts sync off on the iphone, the groups show up.
Any ideas? Is this consistent with the original post?

Why are my podcasts not syncing with Apple TV when all devices connect to the same Apple iD?

This is only half the aggravation; the other half is that all my podcasts have been deleted automatically twice(no apparent reason other than perhaps a bug in iOS 7.0.2 / 11A501).
This one I have managed to comeup with sort of a temporary fix while Apple fixes this: I made a copy/backup of the "Podcasts" folder inside the "iTunes Media" which in turn is in the "iTunes" folder Within the "Music" folder in my Mac. When my Podcasts are deleted, I just drag the backup "Podcasts" folder I created into the My Pocasts in iTunes.
Apple please fix it.
