Apple Tv(HDMI)  to projector (DVI-D)

I just received an apple tv and trying to make it work on a projector.
The projector have only a DVI-D connector so I bought a HDMI cable and the connector DVI-D/HDMI
The only image I get on my screen is the Apple Logo.
I did try the Apple Tv on my HD TV and it work well.
I tought it was my WIFI that was not working well so I hook both Apple Tv and My router with an ethernet cable, Same result.
I have a nice Apple silver on my screen
Any help will be appreciate
JLx

Thank You Winston
The projector I have is Panasonic LCD Projector, can do 720p, 1080i/60 and /50
The model is PT-L780U
I'm trying to find if this projector is compatable with HDCP
Can't find the answer yet
Best,
JLx

DVI interface does't allow audio. Is there optical IN from your Panasonic TV? By then you can connect your ATV to Panasonic using optical together. It will work.

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • IPad to Apple TV to Dual Projectors?

I have an odd shaped classroom and have 2 projectors that are connected to my classroom computer (which is a PC). I have an apple tv, and my projectors have HDMI, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my apple tv to display on both projectors? Is there a way to hook it to my computer instead of directly to one projector?

Each will require a separate Apple TV, it will not connect to a computer (except for restoring via iTunes)

  • Any tips of physically attaching apple tv to a projector that's suspended from the ceiling?

I have a really convenient 1.5 foot hdmi cable that I want to attach my apple tv to my projector with, but the projector is suspended from the ceiling. The idea is that it will be out of the way and truly "wireless". Only problem is I'm worried about it falling, breaking, etc. I was thinking velcro tape might work? Any ideas? Thank

Cool. After inspecting it some more, there is an entire flat side on the projector that has no vents for fans, so I think the velcro idea will work fine. I'll let you know if there are any interference issues. I hope not!
I'd be more tempted to attach it to the projector mount than the projector as even if there are no vents you don't really want to have a 'not by design' hot spot in the projector as AppleTv itself will generate heat. Personally I'd probably run a long HDMI cable from wherever the HDMI equipped devices and AV amp were.  Maybe this is more for presentations or something via Airplay not a home theatre environment.
Make it accessible enough that the remote will control it (reboot by holding menu and down navigation keys together for several seconds).  If you use Remote app on iphone/iPad you won't be able to restart easily if you need to with that (the only other way is to unplug/disconnect power).

  • Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) not working after 10.10.3 update

I have an Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) that isn't working after installing the 10.10.3 update. The screen is just blank, and the power light just blinks a few times every 30 seconds or so. I use this as a second monitor with my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012). Any way to fix this? Thanks!

    Thank you for the update!
Next I would recommend the Reset the System section of the following article for additional troubleshooting:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
I would reset the SMC and the PRAM together, in that order one more time, then do the Safe Boot if needed.

  • I have a projector connected to a directtv box that is connected to an older Bose system in my media room. How can i hook up my apple tv to my projector and still get sound out of the bose system without running another sound cable to the bose system?

The audio cable currently is connected to the directtv box. If i hook my apple tv to the projector that means i would have to run a sound cable across my media room. is there any other way?

External speakers need to be connected via optical unless they work with airplay.

  • Z97M GAMING no hdmi signal with DVI converter

My monitor has VGA/DVI only (Samsung SyncMaster 213T), I have a HDMI to DVI converter in the DVI port, this works with the HDMI out from my laptop.
Am putting together a Z97M/4790K rig. I get no signal at the monitor from the Z97M's HDMI out, if I connect it to a TV I do get a signal.
Am using the same (short) HDMI cable and adaptor with both the laptop and the new Z79M, used the same cable to connect the Z79M to the TV.
So the cable and converter are good (they work with the laptop) and the Z79M HDMI port and cable are good with the TV.
Anyone have any idea why the Z97M HDMI output wont display on my monitor? (Any bios settings to make the HDMI signal more compatable?)

Yes, to be clear, there is no GPU. When I say the Z97M's HDMI out I mean the output from the Z97M motherboard. I have tried it with a second screen, the TV (it worked).
Logically one of two things must be happening... either the Z97M's HDMI signal isn't making it through the DVI/HDMI adaptor (when the laptop's signal is), or the monitor cannot process the Z97M's HDMI signal (when it can process the laptop's).
HDMI and DVI signals are the same, so the adaptor is just a plug converter ('square plug in round hole') and unlikely to be the issue, especially as it works with the laptop.
But both the monitor and laptop (which work together with HDMI and the DVI converter) are >5 years old. The Z97M is very new and could be it's HDMI output just isn't compatable in some way with the (relatively) old monitor.
Hence am wondering (for example) if there are any Z97M bios settings which might make it talk nicely to the old monitor.
Be interested to hear if anyone has had issues (or even success!) using the HDMI out with DVI monitors, especially old Samsung SyncMasters ?

No, you need an HDMI switch.

  • Photos displaying 16:9 through Apple TV HDMI ??? How do it ?

How can I display photos in 16:9 on a SONY Bravia through a HDMI connection from the 160GB Apple TV ?
I was surprised today when I used my iPod Photo on a widescreen TV for a slideshow, and even without HDMI connection, the photos displayed in all screen (16:9).
In my Sony Bravia the photos displayed through the Apple Tv (HDMI connection), use less screen.
    Why is that ?

nothing you can do about overscan really, unless your tv has the option to adjust the picture geometry (most don't).

Hi Rob - thanks so much for your help!  Could you tell me what "air sever or reflector apps." are? and where can I look for information about them?
Do you use them on the Ipad or on the PC?
Do I need a cable too and which one?
Sorry... I am not very technical as you can see, thanks for your help.

I'm afraid this is by design.
You cannot Airplay Mirror a DVD using DVD Player - Apple block  screen mirroring of certain image data which might be protected.
I've a funny feeling Airplay mirroring can potentially be interecpted and decoded so someone could potentially copy the video stream (which would be poorer than DVD anyway).
    Try VLC Player:

  • External HD projector DVI / Thunderbolt / HDMI ?

    Hi
I have two MBPs , one vs10.5 and a recently bought one with vs 10.9 installed.
I do Video movies in HD 1920 x 1080, which I project on a large screen using an HD 1920 x 1080 projector.
With my 10.5, I connect it to the projector using a DVI to HDMI cable, and it works fine.
With my 10.9 , I connect it  to the HDMI input of the projector using the Thunderbolt port to an HDMI cable via an adaptor.
The latter produces a very wishy - washy picture ... flat, dull, no contrast etc ... I can boost the settings of my rojector to get a better picture, but it still does not equals the quality of the picture I get with my 10.5 using the DVI to HDMI cable.
I am thinking of getting an adaptor to connect my 10.9 MBP Thunderbolt terminal to a DVI adaptor and then on to my HDMI cable.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation ?
Cheers and all the best for 2014
    jcr

    Thank you Malcolm.
As you state, they use the same signals. I bought a Display port adaptor to DVi and it is the same. I shall have the unit checked out.

  • Apple TV3 HDMI - DVI jack fine. TV has no DVI digital audio input.

I can buy a converter from HDMI to DVI for video, My TV does not have a digital audio input for the optical cable.  I may be able to plug into my sony surround sound amp in to the SA-DC CD in optical port and just play through the surround sound all the time?  Which would not give me sound if I used the TVs internal speakers?  Or there may be a converter from an optical audio to a R & L DVI Audio Input Jack?

Before you do just note that HDMI is the only supported connection so there will be no guarantee with any converter used. If it does work you will be unable to view protected content, unless your monitor specifies HDCP compliance. Functionality could also cease at any time.
The optical port is for connecting to a receiver, which you would need to do as DVI doesn't carry audio.
