Apple TV help

Considering buying an ATV, but I have a few questions. First off, on iTunes, when I want to purchase a movie, it says that the movie is available in HD on ATV. Does that mean that when i download it, the movie shows in HD (720p/1080i, I assume), or is there a separate download? Or is it upscaled to an unwatchable format? Also, what is the audio format for downloaded movies on ATV? DD / DTS, or is it Dolby Pro Logic? Thanks to anyone who answers!

HD movies are for the tv only.
They are 720p and audio can vary between stereo and 5.1 depending on how the studio encodes the title.
