Apple TV home sharing not working with iTunes 11.2.2

Home sharing has been turned on on both the apple tv as well as iTunes. I'm trying to access my computer library. I've tried all the methods on the support page. Both iTunes and ATV are up to date.
All help would be great. Thanks!

to add, when trying to access computer on ATV, I  get a message saying to turn on home sharing on my itunes

  • Home sharing not working between itunes and apple tv, I've read all help articles I could find... still nothing

    Hey there!
Here's every detail of the problem:
1- My iTunes (10.5.2) doesn't give me any options for apple tv in any menu. Some troubleshooting article I remember said something like «go to Settings - Apple TV - Always Search for Apple TVs» or something like that, yet my itunes settings have NOTHING for Apple TV.
2- Following all setup instructions and usual troubleshooting solutions, i KNOW that all options and settings available to me are set correctly and everything  should work normally, yet my iTunes shows no recognition of my Apple TV AND my Apple TV «Computers» menu is nothing but a «Home Sharing is turned on, make sure that all Home Sharing devices are using the same Apple ID account» message.
3- Of course, yes, all my devices ARE setup with the same Apple ID account, with Home Sharing turned on everywhere. Also I'm not using a Firewall, and none of my devices have any trouble connecting to my one and only router, all at once.
So I figure the main problem is my itunes acting like Apple TV doesn't exist. Any ideas/solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

Sharing Stopped working again over night.
I went to Apple Support Artical TS2972
As soon as I did this Home Sharing started working
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
    Firewall Section
    5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
    Block all incoming connections
    Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
It made sense to me, but its still puzzling me after restarting a router would (in my first attempt) resolve the issue for a day.  This this time I applied the port forwarding TCP and UDP ports and saved the settings in the DLink DIR-655 and both my iPad2 and iPhone 3GS were now again finding the share. My ATV2 is also now accepting the Share.
Tommorrow will be the true test.

  • Home sharing not working with appleTV after I moved itunes to new computer

I Bought a new Mac computer and followed the directions to move my iTunes library from my windows PC to my new Mac. Now my home sharing doesn't work with my AppleTV. I get an error that says it cannot connect to iTunes librarY.
I Have tried reboot both the computer and AppleTV. I have turn on and off home sharing multiple times on both the computer and appletv.

    Hey rjcarter,
Good job on troubleshooting the issue so far. The next steps would be to check the network and firewall settings as well as resetting the wireless router. Take a look at the article below for more information about troubleshooting Home Sharing.

  • TS1741 Remote and Home Sharing stopped working with iTunes 10.7

I have been using Apple Remote to control my Win 7 library as I play it via HDMI through my A/V receiver. I used it on iPad 2, iPhone 4s and iPod Touch 3G, with no problems for several weeks. Just today, however, I cannot get the devices to appear on the iTunes device list, and cannot access the library remotely. I have tried all devices while connected to the same network [tried this with three different networks]. I have turned off firewalls and anti-virus. I have rebooted and reset routers many times. Reinstalled iTunes. Repaired Bonjour. Confirmed port forwarding in routers and in firewalls. Confirmed account names and passwords.
    Airplay works fine.
I believe the problem is in an iTunes or Windows setting that might have changed during an automatic update, but I can't find it.  Any ideas? Similar experiences? I know a lot of ATV issues have come up with other users, but these don't seem similar to my issue.
    Thanks.

Somehow, this seems to have been resolved. The only changes I made were:
    1)  I disabled the wireless adapter in my Media server, and enabled the wired LAN adapter. Both are on the same router [192.168.2.1] I have been using wireless for several weeks without any problem. Of all the changes I made today, this is most likely the one that resolved the problem, for now!
    2)  I disconnected my Windows Home Server from the Verizon router [192.168.1.1] and connected it to the Linksys router that I use for my Media server. All my devices connect through the Linksys router, and the WHS box was not involved in any way to this sharing function [it is usually asleep]. As stated previously, I have used the Remote functions for several weeks without any troubles. All shared devices must be on the same router, and they have been;
    3) I also turned on media sharing for the folder containing my master music files, but this is NOT the same folder containing my iTunes libraries or my iTunes media files. This is only an original folder with the largest versions of all my music files [many that iTunes is unable to read].
I don't know why any of these actions should have recovered my ability to Remote with iTunes, but alas, it "seems" to be working for now.
Summary... Try everything, even if it seems completely unrelated!!!

  • Why does Home Sharing not work on iTunes 10.5.3 between a Windows PC and MacBook Pro?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop which is my older laptop, consisting of all my music, apps and so on. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (latest version) and would like to use Home Sharing to browse my music libraries and so on on there. However, I find that I am unable to do this, after several methods I have attempted in order to resolve this issue.
The Home Sharing on the left column does not appear at all.
I have upgraded iTunes on both laptops to the latest version yesterday, which I assume is iTunes version 10.5.3.
I have turned off Home Sharing, and turned it on a few times.
I use the same Apple ID to log in to Home Sharing.
I named both playlists/music libraries to the same name - not sure if this is a way to 'fix' the problem but I saw it in a thread.
I tried all the above methods, but to no avail. Home Sharing still does not work - in fact, it does not even appear on the left column; it disappears as soon as I turn on Home Sharing.
    Help is very muchly appreciated.
    Thank you very much!

  • TS2972 HOME SHARING WONT WORK WITH ITUNES 12

    I CANT ANYMORE
    My OS is Windows 7
    My iOS device: iPad 7.1.1
    My iTunes Version: 12
AND I've tried by all means to use home sharing with the Remote app, but it doesn't work at all.
    So please HELP ME

I have had this same problem since I upgraded to version 11 of iTunes.  I just found today that if you go into Preferences (under the Edit menu in Windows or under File on Mac OS) there is a Sharing tab that was turned off.  As soon as I checked the box in front of "Share my library on my local network" and the checkbox in front of "Home Sharing computers and devices update play counts" (I don't know if this second checkbox has to be checked or not) and restarted iTunes on each computer it began to work again.
I have no idea why Apple decided to have this turned off by default in version 11+ as I had it working fine prior to upgrading.  I also have no idea why Apple makes no mention of the need to go into the Preferences and make sure Sharing is enabled.  I have found no mention of it in any home sharing documentation...

  • Home sharing not working on iTunes 11.0.2.26

I recently updated iTunes to 11.0.2.26 on Windows XP and none of my devices are able to home share. In the previous iTunes version I could. I have an iPhone 5 (6.1.3), iPad 4th Gen and Apple TV 3rd Gen. None of them will share. I can log in with no error messages, but home sharing just isn't an option in Music or Videos or Apple TV. I know others have had this issue. I have reset network connections, logged in and out, restarted, rebooted and all of the other suggestions that I've read online, but nothing seems to work.
Can anyone offer any advice? Can I downgrade to a previous version of iTunes? Thanks!

    Hello SkyNinja,
Take a look at this article named Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215.
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Check for the AirPlay icon in the recently used apps section on your iOS device, or in iTunes on your computer (as in these articles about how to use AirPlay and how to use AirPlay Mirroring). The icon will only appear if your device or computer is logged onto a Wi-Fi network which has an AirPlay-enabled recipient, such as Apple TV (2nd generation or 3rd generation).
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon, try one of the following steps:
Verify that your AirPlay-enabled devices have the most up-to-date software or firmware.
Verify that your iOS device has Wi-Fi turned on. Enable Wi-Fi on your iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are logged on to the same home Wi-Fi network (check the home network names on your devices to confirm).
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with security software by updating, correctly configuring, or uninstalling security software.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).
Also make sure your Apple ID is signed in, and the computer is authorized.

  • Home sharing not working after iTunes 11 update

    Hi everyone,
after updating to iTunes 11 on our Macs OS X 10.6.8 and OS X 10.8.2 our home sharing doesn't work anymore. We have tried to turn home sharing off and set it up again several times, but no shared devices or accounts appear in the library menu. Does anyone know how to fix this problem without going back to iTunes 10.7.? Thanks for your help!!!
    MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8) & MacBook Pro, OS X (10.8.2)

Also, the reason I posted a fresh question is due to the issue of the "fix" I see folks posting. This is not a fix. When an update forces me to remove security or privacy it is called a problem / bug ... especially since it worked fine before.
Maybe it is intentional maybe not, but if the only solution is to remove my privacy barriers then I guess it is time to get rid of ATV and move away from apple.
Somebody tell me I am wrong or how to fix without having to get into my modem or firewall.

  • Home Sharing Not Working With iPhone Over Network

    Hey,
I'm new to this whole support thing so I'll do my best to explain the issue!
On both iTunes and my iPhone 4s, I have turned on Home Sharing using the same Apple ID. Both are also connected to the same network which is my home wi-fi. I can't seem to connect no matter how hard I try. music won't stream from my pc to my phone and I can't use the app called Remote, an app that lets me control iTunes. I have even gone as far as to mess with my firewall where I allowed two new rules that had the ports Remote uses.
If anyone can spread some light on this shinanigan, I will be sooooo happy!
    Thanks in advance!

    ...And that didn't work either.

  • Why does home-sharing not work with Windows-PC and iMac?

  • Home sharing not working with iMac

I have been using my iMac to do home sharing for my media on to my Apple TV, lately it shows but won't allow the apple TV to connect to it.  I have the latest updates on my iMac and Apple TV.  If I turn on homesharing on iTunes on my Windows machine I can access it fine (it is also at the latest version of iTunes).  my windows machine does not have my full iTunes library (nor does it have the space).
I have tried resetting my Apple TV to factory defaults, and reconfiguring.  I have tried rebuilding my library on my iMac, I have tried logging in and out of Homesharing.  I am completely stuck.
Has anyone else had this problem?  And if so, how did you recover.  Thanks

  • Apple TV Home sharing not working

I have two Apple TV's in my house, one downstairs and one upstairs. The one downstairs uses home sharing fine, but every time i try to use the Apple TV upstairs i always get "iTunes libraries that have Home Sharing turned on using "AppleID" will appear in Computers. The only way i can get the one upstairs to start working again is to unplug the AppleTV and wait a few seconds and plug it back in. I checked the Apple TV Software version of both the Apple TV's and they both have the same version (6.2.1 (6698.99.50.41).
My wireless connection is perfect and all my other devices are streaming fine. The wireless router is upstairs in the next room from where the AppleTV that isn't working.
What could be causing this issue?

I also want to add that all the other apps, Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, etc. are working fine, it's just the home sharing piece.

    3. Select your wireless connection

  • Does Home Sharing not work through a network extender?

Home sharing seems to cut out whenever I get into range of my network extender (Airport Express).
Here's my setup, it's pretty standard: Cable modem wired to Airport Extreme router, which is connected wirelessly to the MBP with my iTunes hard drive. All of this is in my living room.
I use the Airport Express to extend my network into the bedrooms.
Whenever I'm home sharing from my iTunes library on my iPhone, if I walk to my bedroom, it cuts out. It usually crashes the iPod app. If it doesn't completely crash it, I can get it to restart buffering if I walk back to the living room.
Does Home Sharing not work with wireless extenders? Do I have to change something in the set up?

However, when a device goes from being attached to one wireless device to another, there is often an interruption as the device must change the radio connection to the network. There is a brief period of no connectivity (a second or two)
Try starting the share while in your bedroom instead of the living room. I'll bet it works.
Makes sense - so it's a bug in the iPhone OS, that it's unable to recover from temporary interruptions to wifi connection?
However, I'm not so sure. Starting the share in the bedroom works as you suggest (since 4.3.2 - didn't under 4.3.1) - but as soon as you go back to the living room and the iPhone connects to a different base station the music stops playing. Note also that the shared library itself ceases to work. So for example you can't be in one room (on the extender) and add the shared library (without actually playing anything yet) then move to another room (on the base station) and play a track from the shared library. It just plays dead and you have to explicitly reload the shared library to get anything to play.
So is it maybe a bug also with iTunes that it can't keep up with a shared library client moving from one wifi station to another?
How do you report these things to the people that matter by the way?
