Apple TV home sharing password re-entry

I have a Mac Mini and an Apple TV, both on the same network (wired gigabit). Home sharing is turned on for both devices and I can view the Mac Mini from the Apple TV (via the "Computers" link). I can also stream iTunes purchased movies and content without any issues. So all good so far.
From time to time I get prompted on the Apple TV to re-enter my Apple ID. This seems to coincide with a network outage, but I'm not certain, it may also coincide with power cycling one or both devices. Naturally if I try to recreate the conditions causing the password prompt everything works perfectly.
Can anyone provide an insight as to when an Apple TV will prompt for re-entry of an Apple ID/password that is known to be valid? I'm being prompted when attempting to select video from the Mac Mini - not when I purchase content from iTunes.
Thanks,
Tony.

Home sharing has nothing to do with Netflix.
Power cycle the ATV if there are issues with the device not displaying the home screen properly.

  • My apple TV works with my new apple ID but I can't turn on home sharing because for that it is asking me to turn it on with an old Verizon apple ID on my computer. I have the new ID on my computer so it is only the apple tv home sharing that is wrong.

For home sharing purposes only, my Apple TV does not recognize my new apple ID username and password. The on screen message calls for me to use my computer to

home sharing is not set on the appletv but on the itunes program on the computer which lib one wish to share
the home share password need not be the appleID password as homeshare is also meant to share your media with others on your LAN network whom you may not wish to know your appleID password
so home sharing password is set seperately in ituens on your computer

  • TS2972 I have forgotten my home sharing password - how do i reset it ?

Please help = how do I reset my home sharing password in Itunes ?

    Hi BFW99X,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The password used when setting up Home Sharing is your Apple ID password. If you're having trouble logging into iTunes with your Apple ID and password, reset the password by following the steps found here:
Apple ID: If you forget your password

  • Forgot home sharing password

Hi, I forgot my home sharing password and have not been able to find how to reset it.  My apple id is fine but no password.

    Hello there, geradino.
Your Home Sharing password is directly related to your Apple ID. The following Knowledge Base article explains that a bit more clearly:
iTunes: How to share music and video
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2688
Additionally under "Understanding the differences between Home Sharing and Music Sharing" we read:
Home Sharing requires more setup, but allows you to transfer content to another computer or stream to other devices. It always requires your Apple ID and password to see the library and contents.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • Home sharing password

I forgot my home sharing password. I did it a long time ago and cannot remember it. Is there any way I can restore it?
    Tks!

Just to clarify, both machines are on the same local network aren't they I.e. Both at your home and connected to the same router?
If I was you I wouldn't use Shared Libraries but instead use Home Sharing. In iTunes go to Preferences and then the Sharing. Uncheck both Share My Library on my local network and also Look for Shared Libraries, and OK this.
Now follow the instructions in the following article on both machines to enable Home Sharing. Use your iTunes Store username and password where prompted.

    Hope this helps.

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
(The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
-I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
-I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
-So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
-Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
-How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
-I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
-So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.

  • Home sharing on apple tv, Home sharing on apple tv

How do I set up home sharing on my Apple TV? It says it is on and the shared libraries show up on all the computers but not on the television

You need to introduce the same Apple ID in the Apple TV (home sharing option, not necessary on ATV's iTunes Store) and in the iTunes' home sharing (Advanced/Turn on Home Sharing)... and both connected in the same wifi or ethernet network. It's all.

Problem solved – While looking elsewhere on the Internet, I ran across an article where a guy in Russia found that his security code for the credit card entered on his iTunes account was missing.
After checking, I found my security code was missing as well. After I reentered my credit card security code, I was able to log on to the iTunes Store and also able to turn on  Home Sharing.
I HOPE The Apple  iTunes accounts were not hacked into.  That could be a reason for the security codes beinging erased by Apple.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing only detects Macbook Pro but not iPads

    Hello
My Apple TV (2nd gen) will only detect my Macbook Pro on Home Sharing. I have two iPads (1st gen and iPad Mini) both updated to the latest iOS but they just wont show up on apple TV home sharing.
    Any thoughts?
The software on all devices is up to date, and all devices are connected to the same network.

Your first generation iPad is only capable of basic AirPlay, instruction for basic AirPlay are:
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Your problems on the iPad mini, indicate a network problem at your end, perhaps the distances are too great or you have interference on your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • TS2972 Apple TV home sharing trouble

Apple TV home sharing does not for on my MAC mini if I do not have iTunes running on my PC at the same time. How do I fix this (as I want to get rid of the PC)?

my universal cure of issues between windows and itunes is
    uninstall everything itunes, quicktime ...
    reboot
use regedit and search and delete everything related to itunes
    reboot
    reinstall everything itunes, quicktime.-...
this has fixed it for me back when I used itunes under windows
but of cause if one spend a lot of time adding album art to imported cd's and such it's a sad loss of effort

  • Apple TV- home sharing wont recognize user/password

trying to set up Apple TV for the first time.  It won't allow me to complete the home sharing set up as it keeps stating that my user name and password are incorrect (they work fine on itunes so I know I'm using the right information).  I've updated my itunes software so that is not the issue.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

I ran into this issue last night.  Servers have been up and down and I'm guessing they're being over loaded as people are still updating and the same servers might be being used to stream iTunes Radio.  I went back this morning and the issue was gone.  I apologize that you're having such a big issue, on the plus side considering that some people are having big issues with this new content it might be a blessing.  Try again in a day or so, beyond iTunes Radio you're really not missing much.

  • ITunes store/Apple TV/home sharing – will not accept my password.

Home Sharing could not be activated because the Apple ID or password was incorrect.
    IT IS NOT INCORRECT!!
WHAT IS – FATAL – Unable to process your request.  Please try again.
I HAVE USED  The same Apple ID and password  TO LOG ONTO THIS SITE, I HAVE USED IT TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD,  I HAVE USED IT TO LOG ON TO MY ACCOUNT,… I KEEP RECEIVING THE SAME MESSAGE!!
I'm sorry, do I sound a bit frustrated?
I CANNOT  ACTIVATE HOME SHARING ON MY APPLE TVS, IOS DEVICES,  OR THREE OTHER COMPUTERS.
    Incidental:
I had the entire family over to watch videos I had worked on for countless hours which  I meticulously transferred from 8mm to HD then edited them using iMovie.
They all looked at me like I was stupid!
If Apple would have sent out an email  stating their service was down, or that there was some kind of error it would've saved me a lot of embarrassment not to mention two hours wasted on trying to get it to work.
    BTW http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2972 Is absolutely useless.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing no longer working

I have a friend who is looking for help  Here is his problem:
"I've had the 2nd generation Apple TV since October when it was released and it has worked fine until I recently changed my Apple User Name (email address). After changing my user name my Apple TV and iPhone 4 no longer find my shared network and home sharing no longer works. Home sharing is enabled on all devices, including my Sony Vaio Laptop, iPhone4, and Apple TV 2nd generation. Everything else has remained constant, including service provider, router, modem, and internet security (Trend Micro). Also, my library is on a networked hard drive, which didn’t seem to make a difference before, but I figured I'd mention it."
The problem began when he changed his Apple User Name.  After he changed his name, home sharing no longer works even though he also changed it on all his devices to match the new Apple User Name.
How does he get Home Sharing working again. Has anyone run into this same problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Winston,
Thank you for the information.  He confirmed that the ID and password are the same on every device.  This only started happending when he changed his User Name with Apple.
--Itunes is running on a Windows Vista Machine (Sony Vaio)
--He has an Apple TV (2nd Gen)
    --He has an iPhone 4
Can you tell me more about the technologies that apple uses to make "homesharing" work?  Do you think he may need to remove then re-install Bonjour?

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Issue (SOLVED for me)

I had been having problems with Home Sharing while other functions (Netflix etc) worked fine.  My setup is wireless using Time Capsule.  My network was "open" (password not needed).  I had tried everything from recycling my DSL modem and Time Capsule and turning Home Sharing off and on (on my computer and the Apple TV) without success.
My Time Capsule has the ability to connect at 5GHz or 2.4GHz.  Additionally, my networks may or may not be password protected.  I finally changed to a network that required a password and my Home Shareing issue ended.  Since that network change everything works fine.

I was going crazy trying to play music from my Itunes library and watch slideshows of my photos as, once started, the application would quit within a minute of starting. I called Apple Support and tried everything they sughgested - restart, restore etc. Finally, I turned my router off and let it reset. When I turned it back on. everything worked. I could have saved a lot of aggravation had I been instructed to do so originally.
