Apple TV homesharing only works on ethernet

Hi -
I have a 2nd Generation Apple TV connected to my wireless network. I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer with my iTunes library connected to ethernet on the wireless router on the same network. The only way I can get the Apple TV to see my iTunes library is to plug an ethernet cable into the Apple TV and connect it to the router. That is not ideal since I need a long cable across the floor to accomplish this. Does anyone know of any troubleshooting techniques I can use to allow the Apple TV to see the content of my Windows 7 iTunes library without ethernet? It would be wireless to ethernet. I am using the same Apple ID for the ATV and the Windows 7 iTunes.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

Homesharing only working on one computer

Homesharing on computer#1 fully working, able to fully access computer #2's library. Computer #2 can see Computer #1 library name but when I click it only does loading Computer #1 library for about 20 seconds then goes back to computer #2's music. I've turned off all firewalls. Both computers are on the same apple id and password.

Apple TV mirroring only working for iTunes

It is a "last generation" Macbook pro I bought right before the retina displays came out and the 17 inch disappeared from the apple store. The apple TV was bought 2 months ago. Its the newest version on the latest software as well...

ITunes 11 - Apple TV Homesharing Stopped Working

Hi there
I hope someone will have some advice as I've tried just about everything I can think of myself and no joy!
In short, homesharing between my iMac and Apple TV has suddenly stopped working - this is with:
Apple TV - 5.1.1
iTunes - 11.0.1
OS X 10.7.5
All the above has the latest updates and homesharing is already turned on in both Apple TV and iTunes, however all of a sudden when I go to my film library in Apple TV, I'm getting the message to turn on homesharing in iTunes.
I've tried turning homesharing off and back on again in both Apple TV and iTunes to no avail. I've restarted iTunes, rebooted the Mac, restarted the Apple TV and rebooted my router. None of the above has worked.
What I'm a bit perplexed about is that it was working fine this morning and suddenly stopped....without any changes to anything.
Anyone have any ideas or similar issues?

Super frustrating. I'm also experiencing this! I have turned on/off Home Sharing multiple times and have reset AppleTV to factory defaults. Still showing that I must "turn on Home Sharing."

Does 'homeshare' only work with iTunes purchased music?

I have some internet downloaded music and music from various other sources. I recently bought an iMac and turned on homeshareing to transfer my music from my old PC laptop to this new desktop. Only about 50 of my over 3,000 songs transfered. I'm thinking it won't transfer the songs that I didn't purchuse from itunes.
Anyone know anything about this?

Wi-fi only works with Ethernet cable

Hey guys!
I'm using a MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, with Lion. My wi-fi works fine at home and several other wi-fi spots, but at work it seems that it can only access the internet with an Ethernet cable plugged in. Immediately after I unplug the ethernet cord, the wi-fi bars turn grey with a exclamation mark on top of it, displaying that there's no internet connection. I'm pretty sure it has something do to with IP address recognition or something like that, I just can't fix it!
The wi-fi at work works perfectly for everybody else, both mac and PC users. Help?

check which wifi router they are using. I had a linksys with that issue, and the firmware was old. It would connect, but no internet.
also
try setting up your tcp/ip with manually adding a ip address, similar to an address that works on other devices.
if u check you automatic dhcp ip and it starts with 169 then u know that its Class B (APIPA) address. This range is use in Zero Configuration Network and wont have internet. try to fix it manually.

Apple Tv will only work on 1 TV - How do I get it to work on an alternative TV

My Apple TV works perfectly on one of my Televisions. But when I unplug it and move it to a different room with a different Television it won't connect. Apple Tv White Light is on; iMac can see Apple Tv is on, Wireless Network is Available, Correct Input is selected on the TV - but all I get on the TV is a black screen, not even the apple logo. When I move it back to the original TV it works perfectly again.

Seems likely that the other TV doesn't support the currently selected video resolution.
Either got to Settings for Audio and Video and choose Video Resolution of Auto (if it already has that, then skip this!), or try this:
Change the Apple TV resolution:
Press and hold the Menu and Up button on your Apple Remote for six seconds.
The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals.
Press Play on the Apple Remote to keep the current resolution or Select to manually cycle to the next resolution.

If you have a black screen because AppleTV can't connect with the current setting the method above will cycle screen resolutions so when it finds a compatible one you can select it.
Try a different HDMI lead and or input on the other TV if still having issues.

Mail only working with Ethernet, no wireless

I have 2 pop3 accounts in mac mail. All of the sudden they stopped working if i'm connected via wireless (any wireless, tried several in different locations, new ones too).
But if i hook up an ethernet cable, it will work. What gives? I'm on a MBP Pro, running 10.6.1

Apple headphone controls only working intermittently

Hey,
I have a 6th generation Ipod nano and a pair of the apple in-ear headphones. The headphones work perfectly (tested with iphone)and when I bought them I was told by the guys in the apple shop that they should work fine. Sometimes they do work perfectly, can change volume, skip songs etc. Sometimes the volume control doesn't work with them and sometimes they don't work at all. I just want them to work all the time, obviously!
This is really annoying and I would really like it solved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 6th generation nano is buggy. I have replaced mine at the Apple store and continue to have the same issues with volume control, screen just goes blank and does not respond or it will not synch. I have just accepted the fact that this nano was not tested very thoroughly and keep getting it replaced.

My WRT54G only working with ethernet to computer not wirelessly

I have a WRT54G wireless broadband router.
I used to have an ethernet cord from my computer directly to the modem and my sister went online using the wireless signal. I recently changed modems, my sister used the wireless signal for about two weeks. But later when I hooked up my ethernet corded into the back of the router (at first slot 1). My sister could never find the wireless signal. I tried restarting every thing. Not hooking up my ethernet cord, and just trying to get the wireless signal. Didn't work. Help please.

You can only use the Store for the country in which you reside. I have never looked at the German store so I don't know what it offers. It is possible there is limited Eglish offerings but Apple is basically limited by what the distributors will present to them, and probably by what will actually sell.

Airport Express only works through Ethernet and not wireless

Hi there,
As it states in the header - Airport Express works when I connect it either directly to my iMac or through my Cable modem using an ethernet cable. Unfortunately, as soon as I unplug the ethernet and try to use it wirelessly, it disappears from the AirPort Utility view and I can no longer connect. Strangely the green light stays on solid, no flashing.
I'm no wireless connectivity expert so am sure it's something basic I've missed. Would be most grateful of any pointers.

For the short term ...
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing BT HomeHub's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
Music
o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
In iTunes:
iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
For the longer term, since the BT HomeHub is not WDS-compatible with the AX, the AX would need to be connected directly, via Ethernet, to the BT and then re-configured as a bridge to allow the BT to continue to provide NAT & DHCP services for the entire network.

Wake on Lan works with Ethernet, not over Wi-Fi.

Hello, after several months of tests I came to this conclusion.
Wake on Lan only works with Ethernet for my iMac. Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi works for a few hours, but if the iMac is asleep for 6 hours or so, it becomes unavailable... On the other hand, with Ethernet it's always available even if it sleeps for an entire week.
My iMac isn't that old (mi-2011), so I guess it should handle Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi. Is it a software issue?
- I've got a MacBook Pro since Snow Leopard 10.6 and now with Mountain Lion it handles Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi without problem.
- I've got my iMac since Lion. Does the iMac only handle Wake on Lan with Ethernet and works differently compared to the MacBook Pro?
I prefer to use Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi because for the tests I've placed my iMac in the living room in order to plug it to the Time Capsule, but the right place for my iMac is in my bedroom.

Note that "Wake on Lan" is checked in my System Preferences, I don't think it's my router's fault, because my Apple TV, AirPort Express, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and my Printer don't disconnect even when they're asleep (I'm talking about my printer and Apple TV in that case).

I understand that, but if your router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station then it introduces an element of uncertainty. Apple has implemented many changes related to wireless networking recently.

For a home environment, a few days is more appropriate. This may not solve the problem, but it is better than making unsupported changes to your system.
