  • Apple TV homesharing only works on ethernet

    Hi -
I have a 2nd Generation Apple TV connected to my wireless network. I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer with my iTunes library connected to ethernet on the wireless router on the same network. The only way I can get the Apple TV to see my iTunes library is to plug an ethernet cable into the Apple TV and connect it to the router. That is not ideal since I need a long cable across the floor to accomplish this. Does anyone know of any troubleshooting techniques I can use to allow the Apple TV to see the content of my Windows 7 iTunes library without ethernet? It would be wireless to ethernet. I am using the same Apple ID for the ATV and the Windows 7 iTunes.

  • Apple TV / Homeshare no longer working

I've got a 2nd generation Apple TV which has been working perfectly well for nearly a year. It's got the 5.1.1. update.  iTunes has the 11.0 update and is on an iMac running OS X 10.7.5
Since yesterday, whenever I go to the Computer menu, Apple TV keeps telling me that I need to switch Homeshare on in iTunes and won't progress beyond that. However Homeshare IS turned on in both iTunes and Apple TV. I cannot see my libraries for music/tv/film at all and it also says it cannot find my photostream.
I have all the latest software updates. I've tried switching homeshare off and back on again in both iTunes and Apple TV. I've tried rebooting both the Apple TV and my iMac and also rebooted my router for good measure. Nothing has worked.
The only thing I can think of that has changed between Apple TV working perfectly and now not working at all is the upgrade of iTunes to 11.0 and looking over on the iTunes board there seems to be one **** of a lot of issues with homeshare.
Where's Apple to comment on/fix this?  As it stands, my Apple TV is an ususable chunk of plastic.

    Thanks for the quick responses.
I have pinged with speedtest several times when the download gets hung up. The results for my lowest result so far are download: 4.96 Mbps and upload 5.25 mbps
I Have not checked signal strength and noise, I will look into that in a little bit.
THis is problem has developed in the last few days. I have never experienced a problem before.
I Have not experienced the same issue with movies I have purchased as I have with movies I have rented.
thanks again for any assistance you can provide

  • Still can't figure out how to share apps with two different itunes accounts, two different apple ids (homesharing for music works fine) this is between my wifes iphone 4s and my ipad 3 4g anyone help ?

My wife has an iphone 4s. I have an ipad 3 4g. Homesharing between the pc, the ipad and the iphone is fine, but only for music. Many forums say that apps can be shared between devices but HOW ???? I can't find a solution anywhere. My wife and I have separate apple ids, separate icloud accounts and separate itunes details....
    Anyone help ?

Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Apps" appear beneath the name of the library?
Here's a screenshot of what I mean. (Unfortunately, it's not showing "Apps" because there aren't any in that library. But fingers crossed it should give you an idea of what you're looking for.)

  • ITunes 11 - Apple TV Homesharing Stopped Working

    Hi there
I hope someone will have some advice as I've tried just about everything I can think of myself and no joy!
In short, homesharing between my iMac and Apple TV has suddenly stopped working - this is with:
    Apple TV - 5.1.1
    iTunes - 11.0.1
    OS X  10.7.5
All the above has the latest updates and homesharing is already turned on in both Apple TV and iTunes, however all of a sudden when I go to my film library in Apple TV, I'm getting the message to turn on homesharing in iTunes.
I've tried turning homesharing off and back on again in both Apple TV and iTunes to no avail. I've restarted iTunes, rebooted the Mac, restarted the Apple TV and rebooted my router.  None of the above has worked.
What I'm a bit perplexed about is that it was working fine this morning and suddenly stopped....without any changes to anything.
Anyone have any ideas or similar issues?
    Many thanks

Super frustrating.  I'm also experiencing this!  I have turned on/off Home Sharing multiple times and have reset AppleTV to factory defaults.  Still showing that I must "turn on Home Sharing."

  • HT4557 Did Apple remove homesharing on IOS devices?

I have a min that I turned on home sharing.  Both my touch and ipad cannot access the music or video through home sharing.  All three have homesharing turned on.  At the genuis bar I was told that the ios devices are not media extenders and that i need to use match and the cloud instead of my own wifi network and local mac mini.  I looked it up and apple states that in settings / music /  I should have a share option.  I should also have in Music/ More/  a share option that would show my library on the mini.  Neither show up.
I have all os updated and the three machines are 2012 mac mini  ipod touch 4g and Ipad 2

My parents have an iMac which shares it's internet connection with an Apple Tv however home sharing does dot appear on the Apple TV.
The AppleTv is accessing the interest and I can buy and download programs but the Homesharing is not appearing
I also cant get my iPhone to connect to the Apple Tv via Airplay, the icon is not appearing
I've done the useual voodoo with restarts and resets of both the computer, internet router and the Apple Tv with no luck
I'm assuming is is something wrong with the network as I took the AppleTv to the apple shore where it connected without any issues.

    Q. Hi I am a new customer to I pad air.
So is this a question about ATV or an iPad?
I am having problems pairing my Apple TV .
What do you mean by "pairing" it?  What are you trying to do?
i have connected new net gear router N600
How?  WiFi?  Eithernet?  If WiFi you entered the password into ATV?  If so how if you could not see the menu?
Unable to display Apple TV Menu
Meaning that the ATV is now showing up on your TV at all?  Or there is just a specific menu you can not access?  Is this a used ATV?

#1 How is this type of computer connected (Wired or Wireless)?
    a) And if by wired, is it directly to this Verizon-provided MI424WR-D router?
    b) If by wireless, what else is connected at the LAN port (or ports) of this Verizon-provided MI424WR-D router?

Why do I always need to close and reopen homesharing to see music on my TV.  I'm sharing through a Apple TV.

  • Apple TV homesharing keeps dropping out ...

The homesharing on my Apple TV keeps dropping off randomly.
I have a mac with wired ethernet access, and the Apple TV uses my wifi connection.
The setup was OK, and YouTube and NetFlix are fine, but the homesharing will drop off at random times (I see the message "activate homesharing on itunes" under the Computers menu option). My mac is set to never sleep, and itunes is running continuously, so I know that isn't the problem. Wifi signal strength is 80% in the Apple TV menu.
    Can anyone help ?

I'm in the same boat. I've had absolutely no problems up until recently. I have 2 Mac computers and both computers can detect eachother's shared library but they keep disappearing from off my 2 ATV 2s. I don't think it's a router thing because I can still access internet content (ATV 2 detects the networks and can still use it) but the shared libraries just disappear. I don't know if the issue is with itunes of ATV 2 but I'm thinking its software related because both ATVs are crapping out. I've had the ATVs for months with absolutely no problems and now I can't hardly use them.
I'm quickly falling out of love with ATV because its like our entire movie collection is randomly unavailable to us and we have to keep resetting the unit to get back functionality...but only for a short time.
Is anyone still experiencing this issue? Anyone found a permanent work around?

  • How to use external subtitle in apple tv homesharing?

I would like to use srt files when watching a movie via homesharing. Is it possible?

    Hi Sidharth,
If you are using web dynpro DC perspective then you need to follow the following points to use the external jar files in it.
    1. Create a external library project.
    2. copy the external jars in the library folder os the projects.
3.) Select all the jars from the u201CLibrariesu201D folder, Right click and then select Development Component and click on Add to Public Part
4.Select the first Radio Button (Provides an API)and give some nameto it.
    5. Repeat the step no 3 but now select the second radio button other than as selected in step no 4.
    6. Now build your lirary DC.
    7. Now create a j2ee DC project.
    8. ) Expand the node DC Definition and Right Click on Used DC. Select Add Used DC.
    9. Select the External Library DC with build time dependency.
10.Right click on the J2EE DC and then select Development Component followed by Build
    11. Right click on the J2EE DC and then select Development Component followed by Deploy
now you can use both the libary DC and the j2ee DC in your web dynpro DC as used DC.
But if you have created a web dynpro project only(but not DC) than you can directly add the external jars in java build path
    hope this will help
    regards

  • Help me with my apple tv/homesharing please!

Hey guys! Last week I went out and bought my apple tv and I hooked it up to my macbook pro. It was working great I did the home sharing and everything. Well this week I had the guys from charter come and check my internet since It was messing up and they changed the router box. Ever since then my mabook will not sync to my apple tv at all. the airplay botton is not available and although I have home sharing turned on its still saying that its not connected. Could someone please help me fix this??
    Thank you so much!
    Gilda

Thanks again for your support. I tried both the "unexpected disconnects" and the "manually assign IP". When manuallky assigning my IP address my screens were not quite the same as your screen shots but it was near enough to be able to follow.
Sure enough two minutes after getting connected the movie I was watching stopped, a solid black screen appeared with the words "To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using "..........." this field contained my iTunes User name".
When I go to my computer >iTunes>File>Home Sharing the message displayed says "Turn off home sharing". It therefore thinks it is connected to Apple TV. On the Apple TV a notice says it is connected to my Wifi network.
I appreciate your assistance, however, I think it time for a visit to my reseller and cash back.
    Thank you

  • What is the best home set up for a family to share/use apple products

Hi, I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas.  New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally.  I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email -  this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?
Appreciate I have asked a lot of questions here but I am looking for any genuine advice out there. Thank you in advance to any potential advisers.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to use the same ID on a device for iCloud and iTunes.
iCloud covers mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, bookmarks, photostream, document syncing etc and for these I recommend you each have your own ID's, this will stop others from having access to and likely more importantly being able to edit or even delete your personal information.
Someone of Age needs to be responsible for an account, so for younger children you will need to create and be responsible for an account yourself but let the child use it.
For iTunes you could use a single account so everyone can share music and apps or you could use separate accounts (there are ways to share content between users, Apple provides homesharing to do this).
When choosing how to proceed with iTunes, it might be worth remembering that someday your children will reach 21 (or whatever age they feel they have become independent) and will likely want their own account, changing accounts later may make it difficult to access previous content.
Photostream now has shared albums, so you can share just what you want with others. Shared photos using shared albums cannot be deleted by others with different accounts, but if you all shared the same account they could be.
Facetime and messages can also use an ID independently of each other, iCloud and iTunes. Separate ID's are recommended for these, joint accounts can be problematic.
iTunes has parental controls for youngsters, however at 7, I suggest you don't reveal the password to him and enter it yourself when he needs to purchase something, otherwise you may receive unexpected bills.
