Apple TV icon in AirPlay

I have an iPad2 and just purchased the tv2. I got the audio working, but I can't get the video to work. When i select the "Apple TV" in air play, there is a speaker icon in front of it instead of the TV icon. How do I get it to have theTV icon?
Thanks,

The pad is not seeing the atv as an atv.  So that means that it is not set up just right.
Basic, on the atv, see if there is a software up needed.  If you bought it in a store it is likely at least 1 version behind.  Do that.
Make sure your i tunes on the computer is current.
Reboot the atv.  Just unplug it then plug it back in.   Is the atv working ok otherwise?   Can you get to the store? Can you play music and see pictures from your cpmputer?
Reboot the router.
Then post back about what works and what does not work.

How old is the MacBook Pro?  AirPlay is only supported on 2011 and newer models, due to the requirements it has in hardware for graphics acceleration.

  • How do i install the apple tv icon to my late 2010 mac air?

how do i install the apple tv icon to my late 2010 mac air?   im unable to use my laptop to view videos or others on my apple tv

If you are referring to AirPlay Mirroring, it requires OS X Mountain Lion or Mavericks and a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air, so you cannot use it and you will not see the AirPlay icon. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
Instead, you can use an application like AirParrot to mirror your Mac's display onto your Apple TV, so you can watch videos and show your Mac on the Apple TV

    Hello there, AntRambo.
The following Knowledge Base articles may provides some steps to go over for troubleshooting your issue:

    And also the following:

Particularly but not exclusively of note:
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Ensure that you have followed the steps in using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring.
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon  , try one of the following steps:
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay.
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices. Some content requires an Internet connection to authorize content playback. AirPlay capabilities may be limited if your network is not connected to the Internet.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).

  • No Apple TV icon but for only one movie

I can play my music or any other of my previously purchased movies thorugh my apple tv but a movie I purchased last night has no apple tv icon.
Double checked, played some music from purchased and also imported works ok
check previously purchased movies and some I made in iMovie, works ok
Back to the one I purchased last night, works fine on the computer so download was ok but no apple tv icon option !

The exact same thing was happening on my Apple TV.  I purchased the latest episode of Doctor Who (Hide), and the video (picture) played fine, but the audio was just static.
I tried loading the episode on my iPad 2 and play it that way.  After it loaded, it played fine, video and audio on my iPad 2's internal speaker.  When I tried to AirPlay it to the Apple TV, the audio was static again.  Even when I plugged my iPad 2 directly into the TV via HDMI converter cable, the audio was still static.
This is the ONLY episode of Doctor Who (and only digital content, EVER, since owning an Apple TV 3rd gen since its release) that played this way.  All other content, Doctor Who, other TV shows, movies, and services (such as NetFlix & HuluPlus) all play audio just fine.
I did some research and ended up here on this thread.
I turned off Dolby Digital Audio as suggested and the audio worked fine.  Problem solved, but I lost a couple hours to this nonsense.  I call it "nonsense" because I found evidence that this problem has been documented and discussed since 2009 (including an article on Cnet).  Stuff happens, technology isn't perfect, and people make mistakes, but a 4 year old problem still sending folks on wild goose chases for a fix?  Not cool.
Oh well.  At least I'm a little wiser for the trouble.

  • Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 Apple tv icon in task bar missing ?

    Hi,
I have mid 2009 Mac Book Pro Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 build 10K549 fully updated as reported by OS update utility in the 'About Mac' option. The Apple tv is running fine with iTunes and other apple devices but there is no apple tv icon in taskbar to directly send the screen of my laptop to tv. Do i need to upgrade to other flavors like Maverick, is yes which one ? Or is their a work around for Snow Leopard to get it working ?
    BR.
    Sarfraz.

    Hi,
As you are the expert, i would go with what you are saying but required specs for airplay on iphone states that "To use AirPlay, you will need the following: iPhone 4s (or later)....." whereas i have iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and airplay works fine from my phone.
So, if you get any chance of upgrading MacBook Pro 2009 to Maverick or any other higher version OS x and using the airplay, please do let me. The one i was trying on belongs to a friend and i just don't want to go through the whole backup and fresh installation cycle.
    Thanks for your help!
    BR.

  • HT201343 The Apple TV icon shows up on my  macbook pro, but when I click it, it won't connect.

I just bought Apple TV today.  The Apple TV icon shows up on my Macbook, but when I click 'Apple TV,' it turns blue for a few seconds, and then a 'Could not connect to Apple TV' pop-up comes up a few seconds later.  I've tried restarting my apple tv, computer, router, TV, and have made sure all software is up to date.  'Apple TV' is turned on in the settings and my firewall is off.  Everything else seems to work on the Apple TV.  I updated my macbook to Mavericks last night.  Why won't it work?

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, and OS X Mountain Lion. If you have a compatible Mac, you have two possibilities:
    1. Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. Open the App Store and purchase it. Make a backup of your data before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
    2. Use AirParrot to mirror the MacBook onto the Apple TV > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options will work. If your computer isn't supported, the only way to mirror the MacBook is by using AirParrot

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • My Apple TV icon won't appear on 2012 IMac.  Both my Macbook Air and my Iphone can find and play on my tv.  It is a 2nd gen Apple TV, has worked before, what am I missing?

I've turned on sharing in Itunes.

    Hello steppenwiener,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your Apple TV connecting with your iMac.  It sounds like you are not seeing the AirPlay icon in iTunes on your iMac.  I recommend the following steps:
    Resolution
    Try these steps first:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
iTunes for Mac: Choose iTunes > Check for Updates
iTunes for Windows: Choose Help > Check for Updates
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices' software is up to date.
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are connected to the same home network.
Note: Some Wi-Fi network configurations offer a guest network that can block certain Internet services from working or seeing other devices on your home network.
If the AirPlay icon doesn’t appear in iTunes
Ensure that you followed these steps to use AirPlay in iTunes. If the AirPlay icon still doesn't appear, try one of the following steps:
If you want to AirPlay to an Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on the Apple TV.  From the Apple TV main menu, go to Settings > AirPlay. This should be set to On.
If you want to AirPlay to an Airport Express, ensure that AirPlay is enabled in the device settings.
If you want to AirPlay to a 3rd party AirPlay-enabled device, refer to the user guide.

I am trying to set up my Apple TV but cant find Apple TV icon in itunes. Any ideas?

Many thanks for your help on this. The instructions provided with the tv box were typically difficult to follow perhaps because Apple try to cover all languages etc. I also found the control on my iPad that pulls from the bottom of the screen and allows the iPad to control the tv. Thanks again for the help. Best regards,Brian.

  • How do I get my apple tv icon to show on my macbook pro. I'm running mavercik

how do I get my apple tv icon to show on my macbook pro. I'm running maverick.

Thanks for the link Diesel. Not quite there yet. Software is all up to date to 6.0.2. Your link suggests I should have second or third gen apple tv. Not sure what generation Apple TV I have.  Don't believe its a really early model.  I have model MC572LL/A. But it has the latest update, so I would think it would connect.  Still no apple tv icon on my macbook pro.
