Apple TV in Canada

I am considering Apple TV in the hope that it will become more economical than cable TV. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and have a HD TV. I recently read an article in a magazine looking at the cost breakdown of cable, Apple TV and Mac Mini over one and three years and was quite amazed. However, this was based in the US and I am not sure of the access to free sites like Hulu and deals like Netflix ($8.99/month for 1 DVD download at a time) in Canada. I can get into Hulu, but they don't seem to have many full episodes. Netflix doesn't exist in Canada and most internet DVD companies seem to rely on the slow mail system rather than having downloadable DVDs. So, I am not sure how economical it would be to cancel my cable subscription when free TV downloads and good DVD deals are not as available in Canada. So my questions:
1. How well does Apple TV work in Canada?
2. In your experience, is it more economical than cable TV?
3. We typically watch shows like Two and Half Men, CSI and CSI:NY, How I Met Your Mother, Mad Men, and Heroes; channels like HGTV; and sports like the Tour de France (OLN) and Australian Rules Football (Setanta). I know we can get most of the TV shows, but what about HGTV, OLN and Setanta?
4. Do you know of any internet DVD company that offers monthly deals similar to Netflix for Canadian customers?
5. I have downloaded Hotspot Shield which gives access to US iTunes and Netflix, but I believe this has a download limit. Does anyone have any experience with this in Canada and how good is it in accessing the Netflix deal for instance?
6. What's the difference between Apple TV and Mac Mini for TV and DVD?
Thanks

1. How well does Apple TV work in Canada?
Any discussions about modifying the Apple TV, even through a software hack, can't be posted here. But I can assure you, for a variety of reasons, if you're looking to access Hulu and Netflix from Canada, you won't be able to with an ATV.
2. In your experience, is it more economical than cable TV?
Only you can answer that, since it depends on how much TV you watch. If you like to watch live sports events, etc, you're better off sticking with cable.

Are you talking about "getting" them through the iTunes Store? If so, take a look. If you're talking about getting them through a Boxee hack, then once again, this is not the place to discuss.
4. Do you know of any internet DVD company that offers monthly deals similar to Netflix for Canadian customers?
Again, are you talking about downloadable media, or the old Netflix drop-it-in-the-mail model? If it's the former, no, I don't know of any. If it's the latter, there is a Canadian company doing this, but for the life of me I can't recall their name at the moment. For what it's worth, I only rent movies through the Apple TV now. Love it.
5. I have downloaded Hotspot Shield which gives access to US iTunes and Netflix, but I believe this has a download limit. Does anyone have any experience with this in Canada and how good is it in accessing the Netflix deal for instance?
Dude, you have violated so many of the terms of this forum, not to mention your iTunes Store user agreement. You may want to post these questions elsewhere.
6. What's the difference between Apple TV and Mac Mini for TV and DVD?
Search this forum for Winston Churchill's excellent guide to the differences between the two, and his evaluation of each.
Thanks

Not from Apple, but if your carrier subsidizes the cost of the iPhone and you are eligible for an upgrade price with a new phone.

No need to apologize! You didn't put your question in the wrong Community forum, so no worries there. It's just that this is a user community forum, so Apple is not represented here. The link I provided for you takes you directly to a place where you can provide your feedback to Apple. Just so you know, Apple doesn't directly respond to any feedback they get, but the do read all of the feedback. So, the more clamoring for Apple Pay in Canada they get, the more likely it is they will try to get it in place
Glad you all have iPads and hope you enjoy them! And thanks for posting back! Hoping Apple Pay comes to Canada soon for you!

  • Does US apple ship to canada

The new iphone6 plus was presented, and I'm interested in getting it. And I'm living in Canada, in apple store in Canada, the price of iphone6 plus is $100 more than in US apple store. Can I order on US's apple store and ship it to Canada? The price that I pay will be US price or Canada's price? Do I need to pay duty tax or something else?

Also, make sure you are comparing "apples to apples" so to speak
*exchange rates are spot from about an hour ago*
    1 Canadian Dollar equals
    0.91 US Dollar
    1 US Dollar equals
    1.10 Canadian Dollar
    store.Apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone6 = iPhone Plus 128GB = $499 USD   [  = $551.05 CD at today's exchange rate ]
    store.Apple.com/ca/buy-iphone/iphone6 = iPhone Plus 128GB = $1079 CD   [  = $977.09 USD at today's exchange rate ]
The $100 of which you speak of is hard to figure out (for me at least). Canadian taxes+fees+??
    best luck

  • Why are there fewer apps on apple tv in canada

I notice that there a hordes of apps in the US, but in Canada we have so few, and the onew we do have are garbage that aren't really used

Nobody here will have any information about that since the community is only made up of users like you or I. Anything else is mere speculation and speculation is not permitted here under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Any responses you may receive may well be removed and would be wholly unreliable in any case.

  • Can I buy Apple TV in Canada and bring it back to uk?..will it work?

My Apple TV (bought in UK) broke..
And I'm going to canada and I'm planning to buy two for my two rooms at home..

Yes they'll work but you'll need to replace the cable/plug

  • Can I use my Uk Apple ID in Canada

I live in the UK but am moving to Canada next year, can you tell me if my UK apple id will still work in Canada to be able to still download updates to my ipad and phone
    Thanks

If you are relocating permanently it would be better to get a Canadian credit card and then through AppleID Manage my Account change the credit card listed to your new one.  That will then put you on the Canadian app store/itunes store/etc.  The store you use is tied to the credit card and the registered billing address for that card.  To continue to use the UK store you have to have an address (physical) in the UK that your credit card is tied to.

  • Apple TV, Netflix Canada

Simple question, hopefully a simple answer
Will an Apple TV purchased in the US and installed in Canada be able to connect to a Netflix Canada account?
I'm concerned because other hardware like WD Media Player Live Plus seems to be hardwired to netflix.com, not neflix.ca and it does not accept Canadian Netflix accounts.
    Thanks for your help.

    yes

  • How do I receive Sky News on Apple TV in Canada

Why is Sky News avai;able in the US but not Canada?

Thanks for the answer however the only reason I bought Apple Tv was the Apples Store sales person in Canada advised me I could watch streaming Sky News for free which isnt the case.  In fact Canada has a news blackout when it comes to international news unless you want to pay Rogers or Bell to give you BBC World news which is awful.  It looks like I am going to have to buy a UK isp address

  • I have Apple TV in Canada, can I bring that unit to the US?

    How portable is Apple TV?

yes... you still get the Canadian iTunes store.. that's tied to your iTunes account... everything is just like if you are at home in Canada.

  • Apple Care Plus Canada

    [Rogers Link] http://www.rogers.com/web/content/iPhone5-splash?cm_sp=homepage-pre-_-iPhone5-en -0912-_-slot1
I just saw that Rogers posted an image for the new iPhone 5.
I noticed that at the bottom that it mentions Apple Care Plus, something that, until recently, seemed unavailable in Canada.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Has it changed?

We are all iphone users and would have no idea what Apple is going to introduce, unless they announce it.
