Apple TV in iMovie

I'm thinking of getting ATV but would like to know if it can be used to record shows from television and send to iMovie, for example to edit out commercials?

Welcome to the Apple discussions
No it can't but an eyetv stick will do just that and send the recording to either the tv or imovie for editing if you wish.

  • Will apple ever update imovie software for the desktop

In the Fall of 2010, Apple released iMovie 11' and since the release of the iPad, they seem to only be creating updates for iMovie on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch!!!  I want to know if Apple is going to update it on OSX.

The last update to iMovie '11 (to version 9.0.8 if I remember correctly) was in Sep 2012.  iMovie is in the App Store.
    Ninja'd, darn it!

  • Max resolution and format for Apple TV from imovie and itunes

I use iMovie '09 to make movies from my HD 1920x1080P camera that I SHARE to mobile me, itunes and for use on Apple TV via itunes.
I am trying to figure out the max resolutions and formats.
If I SHARE from imovie with 960x540 it goes right into itunes and shows as an HD movie on the Apple TV
If i export from imovie in 1280x720p i can drag into and play from itunes however it doesnt show up on the Apple TV? i thought the apple TV supported 720p? is the format wrong? when you export it comes out as .mov and when you SHARE it comes out as .mp4?

I have been struggling with this for some time. We have great HD cameras, and fairly capable consumer grade video editing capability with iMovie; but we have limited HD viewing opportunities other than a computer.
Apple TV does play it in 720p provided you meet the specs below - perhaps your 720p movie exceeded these specs. You see, there is 720p, and then there is 720p with serious Mbps.
At least for me, when I export at 720p @ 5Mbps the viewing is jittery and not smooth. I guess it is too much processing, although it seems to work fine when it is a downloaded movie in HD, just not an iMovie production.
So, I just use the 960x540, which is clear and smooth, and wait for the day an improved Apple TV hits the market with the processing power to smoothly handle 720p and beyond. I have a big (100") screen, so I can use all the resolution I can get to keep that large of an image sharp.
The alternative is to use a Mac mini and route through HDMI to your TV. That does a good job but is more expensive (triple) the ATV.
    Video formats supported:
    H.264
up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution 1280x720 @ 24fps, 960x540 @ 30fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    MPEG 4:
    • up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution 720x432 @ 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file format

  • Using Apple Lossless in iMovie - good/bad idea

Will the use of Apple Lossless sound files in iMovie 5 have any consequences? My iTunes folder is almost exclusively uncompressed files so that is what I have to work with. I notice that my movie plays more jerky when I start adding sound. Will this go away when the movie is rendered? Unfortunately itunes makes it terribly difficult to manage both uncompressed music files and lossy mp3 or AAC on the same computer.

... I would like to have 2 mirrored libraries, one in apple lossless and one as AAC ...aaah, message understood!! You're an high-ender, my dead-old ears don't catch the differences any more, 128kB/aac is enough for me... ;-))
this is the iM forum, but... : you could create two smart lists, one showing anything bitrate<128, the other one for HiFi/HiEnd usage; or, you use tools as iTunes Library Manager which claims to handle 2 (or more) librarys... but to keep everything sync... no idea....- <scratching head>
back to my dryland: the sound/audio in a dv file is way behind the quality you 're demanding... indeed, I would create a playlist for my specific itunes project and export that as aiff... besides: that is exactly what I do with my projects, I have a library of ~6000 tracks, I do a "preview"/prehear (??) in ITunes, anything what could fit, drops into a playlist, in iM I have immediate access to that pl, I don't scroll thru my whole library... after finishing that project, the pl gets into trash....

  • I am trying to convert some avi's to mp4 to enable usage with apple tv and imovie.  I have used three different software, two paid and 1 free (Skysoft, Total Converter and Handbrake) but conversion stops at 4:57 minutes.

My computer information:  Mac (27-inch) 3 TB fusion drive, Late 2013, Procesor:3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory:16 GB 1600 MHz,  Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB, Operating system: Yosemite OS X 10.10.1, iPhoto 9.6, iMovie 10.0.6, Quick Time Player 10.4, ITunes 12.0.1, VLC Version 2.1.5 Rincewind (Intel 64bit)
I have a large number of AVI home video files that need to be converted to MP4's.  All software I have used (iSkysoft Video Converter- paid version, Total Video Converter - paid version and Handbrake - free version) have done the same thing:  the conversion starts but part way through stops and the result is an MP3 clip of exactly 4:57 minutes.  I have been working with Skysoft support with no success.  The firs attempt was with Total Video Converter.  My second attempt was with iSkysoft Video Converter trial version and it converted entire length of video but of course with watermark.  The paid version then started having the short conversion problem.  I just purchased the computer and am new to Macs.

Thank you for your suggestions.  The Handbrake version I have is as follows: Version 0.10.0 x86_64 (2014112200) and I am not sure what website I downloaded it from  The fact the the same problem occurs with multiple softwares makes me think it is something on my computer, a setting or something, but I have no idea what or where to look.
I will definitely check out iFlicks and let you know.
    Thanks

  • Apple please upgrade iMovie HD for iLife '08 feedback submitted

Its one of the easiest yet flexible movie making apps. I've got projects in progress and lots of archived projects and it would be nice to have the backwards compatibility.
    Thanks !

When you install iLife 08 and iMovie version 7 the installer moves your iMovie 6 version to a new folder.
You can continue to use iMovie 6 after the iLife 08 install.

  • Removing the Apple Logo from iMovie

Hello everyone, I have made some movies and use iDVD to make the final project. But in the DVD menu it has the Apple logo on the bottom right hand on the DVD menu when i use a template. Can i remove this somehow? Please advise....
    Rob

    Yes Robert,
Just go to the preferences pane in iDVD and turn it off.

  • Just bought an Apple computer. have imovie. do not have idvd. where can I get the idvd application for imovie.

Just bought an apple computer with a compatible movie camera. using the imovie11 app. that came with computer is a great app. only problem is I can't burn a single project. It say's, share with iDVD, but their is no program called iDVD anywhere. why can't I use iDVD and where can I obtain this program.

I bought an IMac a few weeks ago, created a slideshow on IPhoto only to learn that there was no IDVD to burn it. It is available on ILife11 but if you have just spent a considerable ammount of money on your Mac, why then should you have to spend yet more of your hard earned cash on a DVD burning program, especially when you have 3 of the 5 apps that come with ILife11 already?
I called Apple Support, spoke to an advisor who was understanding but really just tells you that it isn't shipped with Lion OS anymore. You then have to insist, politely, of course, to speak to a senior advisor, (if the advisor himself isn't compassionate enough to suggest that himself).
If you can, request a 'callback' where they call you (they pay the call charges), air your grievances calmly & you should receive a free hard copy of ILife 11. The standard Apple support advisor won't have the authority to grant you anything more than a compassionate ear so you must speak to a senoir advisor. I received my free copy of ILife11 in the post a week later. It worked for me, it has worked for others so it should work for you.
Good luck, keep calm & maintain your creativity!

  • IMovie DOES NOT AUTOSAVE!!! Why the **** did Apple remove "Save" in the first place and how to fix this problem?!?!

There's no good reason Apple removed the ability to manually save. I work in a project, I save it at a point and then make edits that I may or may not want. It could be 1000 changes I make before I see that I'm not satisfied with them and want to revert back to my last saved session. In iMovie not only can I not do that but the autosave doesn't work and has cost me tens of hours!
iMovie just hit me with a bug saying I couldn't share becuase there wasn't enough memory so I have to quit iMovie, open it up again then try to share it. Well, there IS enough memory so I don't know why it was saying that anyway. But besides that, I was afraid to quit iMovie because the **** thing never saves.
I google and find out I can duplicate a project and that should save it. I do that. Restart it. Bam. None of the changes I've spent the past 2 days on saved....
Why has Apple broken their iMovie like this and is there ANYONE that has figured out a way to make projects save?
This is absolutely the last time I'm using iMovie (or any Apple app that removed manual save) but I've done too much editing to start all over again in another video editor. I need to make these changes AGAIN then save them.
    How?!

  • How to use the Bloggie camera with Apple iMovie software.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Follow these steps to use the Bloggie® camera with the Apple® iMovie® program.
Power on the camera and connect directly to a USB port on the computer.
Once the camera is detected by your computer, the iMovie software should open automatically. If the iMovie software does not open automatically, go to the Applicationsfolder and open it from there.
In the iMovie window, choose Import from Camera...
Choose which clips you want to import and choose the Done button or choose the Import All...button to import all the clips.
NOTE: You can use the standard iMovie interface to edit and create movies from your video taken with the camera. For more information about how to use the iMovie program, refer to the Help menu in iMovie or visit http://www.apple.com/support/imovie.

  • How to get iMovie clip or movie to iTunes for watching on Apple TV?

How do I watch a movie clip on iMovie, on Apple TV?

    Hello alaz0,
I have located an article that explains how to view your iMovie creations on Apple TV:
iMovie (2013): Share to “iMovie” Theater
iMovie Theater is where you view your finished movies, trailers, and clips. You can share a movie directly to the Theater, or have a copy of the movie sent to the Theater automatically when you share to other places (such as Vimeo or iTunes). For more information, see Share online.
When you add a movie, trailer, or clip to the Theater, iMovie creates versions of your movie tailored for local playback, playback on an iOS device, and streaming. An activity indicator appears on the right side of the toolbar while these other versions are being created. Click the activity indicator to see details. You can continue to work in iMovie, or quit without affecting the share operation. The indicator disappears when the operation has finished.
With iCloud, movies and trailers that you create with iMovie and share to the Theater automatically appear in iMovie Theater on your other devices. Here’s how you can view the movies on your other devices:
On another Mac, open iMovie and click the Theater button in the toolbar. For more information, seeiMovie Theater overview.
On iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, download iMovie for iOS from the App Store, open it, and then tap Theater at the top of your screen. For more information, seeiMovie Help for iPadandiMovie Help for iPhone.
On Apple TV, choose iMovie Theater from the main menu.
Movies in iCloud are private—they are tied to your iCloud account and cannot be viewed by others.
Important:    Movies, trailers, and clips uploaded to iCloud can’t be longer than 15 minutes.
    Share to the Theater
Select a movie, trailer, or clip in the browser.
Click the Share button in the toolbar, and then click Theater.
The item you selected is sent to iMovie Theater. When you share a clip to the Theater, it’s automatically named with the name of its parent project.
A red badge with a number in it appears over the Theater button in the toolbar, indicating the number of items that have been added to the Theater since you last visited the Theater.
To view your movie, clip, or trailer in the Theater, click the Theater button in the toolbar.
For more information, seeiMovie Theater overview.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

  • Apple, please fix audio problems with iMovie

Ok, I have many iMovie projects, about 10. In one project when I add music from iTunes I can control the tracks fade, volume, everything I'm able to control. This is also possible when I make a new project and add music from iTunes.
So, this is possible in one project and all new projects.
But when I try to add music from iTunes to an existing project (all other 9 projects) the audio controls do not work. I can't mute the iTunes mp3 I can't fade it, NOTHING. Having bought my $6000 mac primarily for iMovie you can imagine how frustrating this is.
    I've tried the following
    Re-installing software
    Deleting preferences
    Clipping audio in garage band
Using different music, including different file types, eg .WAV
It's obviously a bug apple, please fix it asap.

    Hi
This is a User to User forum - Apple rarely drops in to have a read.
Give them feedback if there is a bug (that can be repeated)
    How about this.

  • Attention to the apple developer, u need to check the issue about the iMovie which installed in an iPad 4th gen. Is having a problem during closing the app from the theater page to the home screen. It doesn't closes exactly severally...

Attention to the Apple developer, the iMovie which installed to the iPad 4th gen. has a problem when it's opened at the theater page it frequently couldn't be closed down to the home screen. The app page is actually blinking and cannot tap onto anything..

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • IMovie '4'

A few months ago I purchased and installed iLife '08 mainly for iMovie. What a disappointment!!
Granted '4' had some issues and was simplistic however for me it was more utility than a sophisticated video production tool. I simply used it as an interface to capture old vhs and export to digital file or hand off to iDVD to burn.
I am a professional video editor for NASA, I have Final Cut and DVD Studio in which I could've done such projects but to me it seemed overkill... I liked the 'layman' functionality of iMovie. Apparently I am not the only one disappointed by this software change, I did read in some online discussions elsewhere several similar critiques including the silly elimination of a timeline approach to clip sequencing. On occasion over the last few months I tried to retro-load '4' from install disc with no luck. It finally occurred to me to trash ALL caches and files for '08' this morning.
It worked... I reinstalled and have '4' back!! Now the problem is I again have one of the initial problems of early '4' (pre-HD update), that being only able to capture clips in 9:28 subclips. I installed the only '4' update I could find from Apple... no fix.
Anybody from Apple or the community no where or how I can get '4' to 'HD-version' for the hour long clip captures like I used to?
I am a new user to apple forum and not sure if my 'registered' .mac acct would appear to reply to directly or be the way I'd be notified of responses online... but it is not a 'fully functioning' acct, meaning I can't get e-mail thru it so I doubt I'll get notified of any response directly and will have to just keep an eye on forum for feedback.
    Thanks!

    through this link
    http://jeffcarlson.typepad.com/imovievqs/2007/08/imovie-hd-6-now.html
    I found this:
"Perhaps silently acknowledging that iMovie '08 is a completely different approach to video editing, Apple has made iMovie HD 6 (the previous version) available as a free download."....
"the installer checks to see if iLife '08 is installed before continuing. This means that anyone buying a brand new Mac that comes with iLife '08 (and who therefore wouldn't have a previous copy of iMovie HD 6) could download this installer and get iMovie HD as well. But if you're still using an older version of iMovie, you can't upgrade to iMovie HD 6 for free."
I did download update, 'HD6' launched ok, but will not import today's earlier '4' work as either a project or media files.... keeps crashing, but I'll keep trying to find solution/work around

  • IMovie not recognising Data Video DAC AV/DV converter

I use my DataVideo Dac-1 to capture old VHS family movies. Drop them into iMovie edit and make short DVD's. The system worked a treat with our old G4 and Panther. Have just bought a dual G5 2 Gig machine & iMovie HD. The system is not seeing the DAC on the fire wire bus. I have tried new cables, plugging into a native bus etc etc. but no go. The DAC is admitted 5 years old but worked perfectly up to now. I am loath to have to scrap it because of a Fire wire incompatibility issue. Anyone else out here with similiar issues and a possible solution - or else off to the mail-order I go and cough up €200

    Hi Richard,
I cannot help, sorry, but I read here many reports concerning Converters worked/then failed....
I recommend http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html to report in detail your system's profile and converter specs.... maybe, there IS some <bad word following> bug???
