Apple TV in my classroom

Is it possible to mirror my ipad using apple tv if my school has blocked bonjour?

I have an Apple tv, I have a VGA cable that is suppose to be plug to a computer from the projector.  There is a cable, called ATV pro, that I bought in the Apple store that connect a VGA cable to an HDMI plug.
I don't think that the cable is the problem since I can see my Apple tv on my screen.  And I know that the wifi is connected and working because I can have access to my music library.
My problem is that my iPad is connected to the same network, but there is no Airplay icons that appear.  I've been using my Apple tv at homw and everything was working.

  • Apple Remote Desktop and Classroom iPad set

I am a teacher with a classroom set of iPads.  I recently used the Apple Remote Desktop program in our computer lab to monitor the students and loved it.  Is there an app (Mac or iPad) that I can use to monitor my students as they work on their iPads that works like Apple Remote Desktop?
    Thanks,

Allot of the newer iOS devices support AirPlay with Mirroing. This lets the device stream video & audio to devices like AppleTV. There is an application called reflector that lets Multiple iOS Device stream video to a Mac Computer. Last time I used it, I could get away with streaming video from 4 devices to the computer.
The thing about airplay is the user on the iPad has to chose to stream video, instead of you choosing to look at their screen.
Lan Desk offers some teacher/student tools for ipads. http://www.lanschool.com/lanschool/features/ios-student The catch is that the student has to have the app, and open the app.

  • Ipad w/apple tv in the classroom

I have my ipad connected to Apple TV which is connected to a projector via VGA converter. I need to also connect to some type of speakers to be able to use in my classroom. Anyone know what my best/cheapest options are?

Look at the Apple TV manual

  • Is there a way I can store presentations on a mac to stream to apple tv and control from an iPad without storing presentation on iPad at any time or connecting to the internet; i.e. just through local wifi network?

I am looking at setting up a Local Wifi Network using a Mac and Airport Extreme.
I wish to store presentations on the Mac.
I wish to teach from the presentations through Apple TVs in my classrooms using IPad to control presentation, annotate etc
I don't want to have to upload presentation to iPad from Mac as this will be in server room.
I don't want to access internet so iCloud Drive is out of the question.
    What options do I have?
    Many thanks
    Dave

You would need to find an app that lets you remotely access the Mac (e.g. Logmein). You would need to be aware of how much the network can handle.

  • Mirroring option not showing on iPad with apple tv.

At a school site with just two apple tvs.  Air play mirroring is not an option when I sign into my apple tv.  Just says the name of the apple tv and does not provide mirroring option. The other apple tv in another classroom will allow me to mirror. Ideas?

if it's ipad2 the only ipad that support mirror
then I would verify that the atv's had the same ios version

  • Apple TV defaults to "Movies" pane displaying inappropriate cover art

Each time the Apple TV sleeps, the default Apple TV display after exiting a screen mirroring (or Air Play) session is the "Movies" section.  Because the movies section shows a handful of recent movies with their cover art, we are finding a lot of inappropriate images flashing on the screen.  Because our work takes place in education, there are whole classrooms full of students, paretns, and teachers that are exposed to inappropriate images that inculde suggestive images and titles.
My company does one-to-one technology deployments in schools.  We deploy only Apple products and each classroom is equipped with an ATV for screen mirroring purposes.  I continuously have to show my teachers how to move the selection box from the "movies" menu icon to the "Settings" menu icon which displays a clean Logo of the ATV rather than a list of recent movies.
Does anyone know of a setting or a way to make the ATV default to the settings pane rather than movies without manually having to select a different option?
    Thanks!

We use Apple TV at our Christian School and for Children's Church. Is there any way to have something else show up?

  • Switching presenters with Apple TV & iPad2s

    Good Mornings,
When using apple TV in the classroom, what is the suggested way to switch presenters/ipad2s?  Instead of logging out first presenter and then logging in 2nd presenter... this is time consuming.  Thanks for your patience as we are brand new apple tv and fairly new to ipad2s.
    Thanks.

I guess the advice from Apple should be good enough assuming it is a firewall issue, since I haven't seen what they've said, this is what I would have said about the firewall:
Configuring your Firewall should be as simple as 'allowing access for iTunes', however if you wish to manually check the ports used yourself, the specific ports are:
    80 TCP (http)
    123 TCP/UDP (time server)
    443 TCP (https)
    554 TCP/UDP (rtsp)
    3689 TCP (daap)
    5353 UDP (mdns)

  • How can I hide iCloud purchases on Apple TV?

We are a small Christian private school, and we have Apple TVs in each classroom. The album art for U2's freely released album has changed, now showing two shirtless men in an embrace -- Yes, I know it's Larry Mullens Jr and his son. It's upsetting my teachers and students. How can I hide it when there is no Apple ID associated with the Apple TV?

You can also got to movies and select purchased and if it comes up cannot connect to server go to settings and scroll down to restart and it should work. That's what I did and it showed my purchased movies and I don't have my Apple TV paired with a computer. Just using iCloud. But you also can pair your computer but its not necessary to watch purchased movies you have bought through iTunes. Hope this helps.

  • IPad, iPhones, iPods, activboards-what can I do with all these in my classroom?

I am a language arts teacher in an 8th grade classroom. I have a classroom ipad, an HP laptop/dock, promethean activboard & more than half of my students have their own iPads/iPods/iPhones. I personally have an iPhone & a MacBook Pro (& an Apple TV, but would not want to bring that from home to school-if it meant the diff between being able to take technology to the next level, i might consider buying an Apple TV for my classroom).
Is there a way to have the students using their devices to respond to questions/games on the board? And can I use the ipad to control the board?
The little I researched so far seemed to reference using Apple TV hooked up to board with devices passing thru it as "remotes"? Is this something?
    Thoughts, feedback?
    TIA !!!

Lightroom/PV2012 does an awesome job on jpegs too. It doesn't have all the same data to work with as raws, so can't real the highlights in as well etc. but can buff 'em up pretty good... - try it!
I could give a more complete and detailed list of differences (e.g. camera profile & white balance), but you'll be discovering them shortly anyway .
In general: there are a few less options and you can't push 'em as hard - edits may need to be more "restrained" (conservatively applied).

  • Block videos on Apple TV main screen?

    Hi there!
I am a technology assistant at a public school system.  Many of our teachers use Apple TV in their classrooms.  We have a concern with the Apple TV main screen.  Is there a way that we can hide the videos that pop up when you initialize the Apple TV?  Many of the movies are inappropriate for young children and we were hoping there would be a way to prevent them from appearing every time we start up the Apple TVs.  Just wondering if this was possible.
    Thanks!

We discovered that this can be accomplished by turning on the parental controls in Settings.  Set the purchase and rentals to "Hide."

  • DVD player doesn't work with apple TV

I have an mid-2011 27" iMac and a third generation Apple TV. I just discovered that DVDs will not play on the Apple TV using airplay and mirroring from my iMac. The sound is there, but the video is displayed as a screen filled with white and gray squares. Any suggestions?

Thanks Rudegar and Brian. I am not attempting to play copyrighted material. I teach German in a high school and I have downloaded a series from PBS to show my students. The videos play properly on my iMac, but not when I mirror my iMac to the Apple TV in my classroom. I have many YouTube videos that play well when mirrored, but the material I saved as DVDs are causing the problem. Had I simply saved them in the mov. format, I would not be having this problem. Does anyone know if there is a solution to make the DVD player function properly when mirroring to an Apple TV?

  • Why doesn't apple tv v3 work with my projecter

I had an older Apple TV in a classroom using a VGA converter to project to the VGA projector.  I got a new Apple TV 3 and swapped them out and it doesn't work.  The projector says "unsupported".  Is there a difference between 3 and one from a few years ago that would cause it to just not project?

What modes does the projector support?
Officially AppleTV 3 only supports 720p and 1080p.  It won't do interlaced modes but i have occasionally seen it list various other resolutions.
Was the older AppleTV a black v2 or silver v1 ?
    AppleTV2 maxed out at 720p.
AppleTV 1 could do interlaced modes up to 1080i as well as outputting 720p/1080p even though it could only process 720p it upscaled.
I would try connecting the new AppleTv to an HDMI equipped TV and maybe setting the resolution to 720p - my older 800x600 projector worked via an adapter when AppleTV was set to 720p recognising a 720p input over VGA.
It could however be an HDCP issue.

  • Old Apple Game-Scuba

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate board, but I'm hoping some long-time mac users can help me out. I remember back in the early 90s (when I was in the early parts of elementary school) that we had an Apple computer in the classroom. On the computer was a game that we played almost every day, and I don't remember much about it. What I do remember is that it was a point and click game, where a scuba diver would tell you to click certain things on the screen (at the end was a treasure chest, maybe?). I seem to remember that as you clicked through, the diver mentions something about it getting colder and darker if you go deeper in the water. Does anyone know what this game was called, and if I could somehow get my hands on it. Thanks a lot!

    Hi shadowjack;
I don't remember that game. With the time frame you are placing it in it is probably a game that ran in OS 9. Since you are running Leopard you will not be able to use Classic which was a method to execute OS 9 program while in OS X.
If you want to continue to peruse this, you might find more help Mac OS 9 Forum.
