Apple TV in "Not supported mode" on Samsung HLN467 TV

I just got an Apple TV and I can't get it to show a picture on my (3-1/2 yr old) Samsung HLN467 DLP-type TV.
The Apple TV is connected via Component video cables. I have tried Component 2 and 3 inputs on the TV, same result: "not supported mode" is all that shows up on the screen.
This is typically what happens where there is a mis-match between output and input; the component channels on the TV say they can accept either 480p, 720p, or 1080i. I understand the Apple TV box is 720p, so I don't understand the mismatch.
If there is something I'm supposed to be able to set in the Apple TV, I can't, because I can't see it.
And I'm pretty sure the TV itself figures out what the input is from those component channels; I don't see anything in the menus that would let me change any settings.
Anybody got any ideas?
--PS

Well, it worked fine through the HDMI output. The Samsung doesn't even have HDMI -- it's almost 4 years old! -- only DVI, but I'm connected to that input through an HDMI/DVI adapter. I had my TiVo Series 3 connected through the HDMI/DVI input, and I didn't want to switch that to the component input, but once I made the switch I didn't notice enough of a difference (like none) to switch back, so that's my work around.
It's working, now I have to see how I can use the Apple TV. Still have to sell my wife on it....

  • Not Supported Mode

I have a 42" Samsung Digital Plasma HDTV. From time to time while watching Verizon FIOS TV my TV will switch from a picture to a message on the screen that states "NOT SUPPORT MODE" or I will turn the TV on and it gives me the same message.  I have called  Verizon support and was told to try  new compenent cables. I have done some research and it appears that Samsung TV's and Verizon have issues. I can make the issue go away for a few weeks if I go into my DVR and reset the picture to streched mode. I should not have to do any of this and Verizon is not helping much nor is Samsung. Does anyone have an idea what can be done or has anybody had this problem before.

    Hello Nbeo2v6,
Welcome to the Verizon Residential forums.  You might fnd some ideas here on how others have fixed the problem with their own Samsung HDTV's.  If none of the suggestions work for you, you can PM one of the employees (their forum names are blue ) for further assistance.

First of all, I think you are confused by something.
You don't print cards. You print Certificates. So which item are we dealing with here first of all?
Also, you can't buy gifts with just Store Credit, so do you have a linked CC?

  • New Yahoo webmail and Apple Safari now NOT supported!!

This is really frustrating, but when you open Yahoo webmail now, you get a message saying Apple Safari is NOT supported. What a joke!! They support mozilla and firefox for mac, but not Safari. In order to use Safari, you have to use the "old" Yahoo Webmail system.

As a fellow yahoo user when I got my mac I found out quickly that yahoo is not very mac friendly. It does seem that the browser priority goes from IE on windows to Firefox to Safari. And I do experience (especially with yahoo) that Safari gets left out a little. I switched to os x mail right away after getting my mac and never looked back. Now I get frustrated just to use yahoo webmail cause I can't find anything..the search has always been bad...
    Don't know if that helps!

  • Apple USB Modem Not Supported in Snow Leopard Running 64-bit Kernel Mode

Has anyone been able to get the Apple USB Modem to work with Snow Leopard (SL) when running SL in 64-bit kernel mode? I get an error saying hardware not supported.

I would suggest you take this question up in the MacBook Pro forum or perhaps the Snow Leopard forum. This forum is for question about older, Pre-G3 Apple hardware and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick and applicable response.

    Hey All,
The apple tv settings do not appear on the samsung screen - this leaves no option to do any thing. After reading many comments, this is what I have tried so  far:
1- pressed  apple tv menu + reverse button for 6 secs ..... no effect
2- pressed apple tv menu  + down button for 6 secs  and unplugging power for 3 secs ... no effect
3- unpairing infra-red on the imac and mac pro as  the remote was controlling the sound/volume ..... no effect.
    Your advice is much appreciated!

    Hello Fkat,
Thank you for the detail of the issue you are experiencing with Settings on your Apple TV.  It sounds like you have already restarted your Apple TV but are not seeing the Settings icon.
The next thing I recommend is restoring your Apple TV as described in the section titled “If your Apple TV still does not respond or if you were unable to follow the above steps” in the following article (you will need a micro-USB cable to perform these steps):

  • My apple TV does not support 1280x720 resolution

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a apple TV in Greece. However it seems that I cannot make it accept movies (ripped from DVD) with resolution 1280x720 (24 fps). Are apple TVs sold in Greece different from these sold in US ?
The funny thing is that the greek apple site does not mention at all this resolution in the apple tv specs...

Are apple TVs sold in Greece different from these sold in US ?I woundn't think so.
The funny thing is that the greek apple site does not mention at all this resolution in the apple tv specs...720p24 and 720p25 are only supported in the H.264 "Main" profile with average video data rate supposedly limited to 5.0 Mbps and with stereo/"surround" AAC audio limited to 160 Kbps at 48.0 KHz. Make sure your target file output conforms to these settings.

I just fixed mine by following the steps in this article http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/aug14/080814.html
Basically, turn off file sharing, remote sharing etc... in apple preferences and it worked.  Apple support didnt help and told me to take back the device !  I initially restarted, rebooted, reset apple tv,  updated, unplugged everything including the router- unchecking the sharing boxes in preferences is the only thing that worked.

  • What is up with Apple's Network not supporting Network scanning and even Ne

    Hello.
I have a HP 3210 Network printer/scanner. After upgrading from my LinkSys router to a Time Capsule I now find that my HP Network scanning capability is dead. Apple tech support has admitted that they don't support scanning nor even some network printers on the Time Capsule, airport & Airport express. Apple won't even give me enough details on the issue so I can talk intelligently with HP???
What is up with that? That is completely unacceptable. I can print to my printer, I can browse the built-in web server (and scan interestingly enough using the web server), but when you try and run the HP scanning client it indicates it can't communicate with the printer/scanner.
Any ideas out there? I'm really disappointed.
    Len in Canada

    What is the deal here?
Easily explained: On or about 24 July the entire discussions.apple.com web site was moved to servers running Windows Vista Enterprise OS. The site was compromised approximately 6 seconds later by a group of Romanian hackers believed to be funded by Nigerian Internet scammers who had millions of dollars in credit to play with when hundreds of thousands of victims sent them their credit card numbers to pay what they thought were nominal fees to get some of the 100,000 missing iPhones sold the first week but according to AT&T never activated. Supposedly, a malfunction in a mail router or address machine (the story varies) inadvertently sent all these phones to a mid-ranking Nigerian official who needed financial assistance with getting them out of the country.
Well, either that or the site is still controlled by Apple & has been undergoing extensive changes which, shall we say, have not yet been completely sorted out, much in the same way that Iraq has not ....

  • IMEI number is greyed out and unable to activate phone.Apple India is not supporting any suggestions?

I bought iPhone 5 in Singapore in May '13 and then moved to India . The phone worked well in India till end Sep'13. But in Oct '13, while auto installing 7.0.3, the phone started hanging and the  signal went for "search " forever. I tried to reset the phone to factory settings and everything went blank. It is stated that the IMEI number has been greyed out in the phone and only Apple Singapore can fix it.
Apple India refused to touch the phone as it was bought in Singapore. Tried with online support without any success till now. I am unable to send the phone to Singapore for repair - as it cannot be send by courier by individuals and Apple Singapore service does not accept over courier.
Tried online support and but it did not work
Please suggest option to repair and make the phone usable in India.
Regret for having bought iPhone at Singapore.

Thank you for the quick response. I understand warranty coverage is only for Singapore ( place of purchase).
Help required: Can the online support from Apple really help in restoring the phone?
1.What is the purpose of iPhone Restore option in iCloud / iTune ? if it user cannot do in such instances
2.Why should the IMEI number get "greyed" after a use of 6 months?
3.Why should a Apple working product fail when updating a new version of the software?
Surely points 1 to3  above are shortcomings of Apple software and its product. Such  HIGH priced premium product needs much more reliability. Apple should consider global warranty specifically for people who travel -else the problem will erode its market share. Apple competition too have the same issue.
Having stated the above, I sincerely regret going in for a Apple product  and that too buying in Singapore. I have learnth a hard and  extremely costly lesson

  • Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, not supported by Apple

Whilst I was travelling in South East Asia, I needed to purchase a new phone.
I found a supplier of iPhones in Thailand that sold me an Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, it turned out to be an Italian iPhone, again an official Apple one.
I needed an unlocked phone that I could use in many different countries, using local SIM cards.
I have been very happy with the phone, it needed updating to v2 and this did not cause any problems.
I was just speaking with AppleCare about an unrelated issue. at the end of the conversation I mentioned that the only thing about the iPhone that was disappointing about the iPhone was the volume of the speaker phone. The agent took the serial number of the iPhone and put me through to iPhone support.
The iPhone agent then took the serial number again and told me that I had an Italian iPhone, because it was bought in Thailand, support was only available through Thailand, she also told me that using a SIM card other than that of an official carrier voided the warranty.
All this seems a bit restrictive, for people in my position, to buy an Official Apple product and then be denied support defeats the object of sourcing an unlocked product in the first place. I can understand why Apple refuse to support iPhones that are unofficially unlocked, but to deny support for an official product seems grossly unfair.
Anyone else had problems getting Apple to support their own products, any ideas how this situation can be resolved?
    Jeremy

Apple clearly states that an iPhone is supported only in the country in which is was officially distributed. If you purchased an Italian-distributed iPhone in Thailand, it was imported and sold against Apple's terms and contracts and so you may indeed have problems getting it serviced since it will not show as being sold in the correct country. Using a SIM from another carrier is also unsupported. The only places in Thailand where can purchase an iPhone that will be supported by Apple in that country are True Move stores or Apple Premium Resellers. See:
    http://www.apple.com/asia/iphone/buy/#th
for links to approved locations. Any such iPhone sold will be supported only in Thailand.
At this point you're probably stuck since you have an unofficially-sold iPhone. Your best route will be to sell your current iPhone and purchase one from an official dealer in your country of residence. Do not buy one in any other country (unless you'll be in that country for months or years), whether it's unlocked or carrier-locked, or you'll have the same problem.

  • Third party lightning cable sold on apple online store not supported

Since I upgraded my iphone 5s to ios 8.1.1, my belkin lighning cable became an unsupported accessory
however with my ipad air still sticking with ios 8.0.2, the cable seems fine
been trying to contact with apple online service but they just won't stop telling me to restore my iphone.
did anyone come across this problem with any third party "MADE FOR IPHONE" certified lightning cables?

If Apple Support tell you to restore ,why do you think you know better ???
Restoring will likely resolve a corruption of the iOS as I expect you have used over the air to update previously
However if you know better ....................go forth
