Apple TV interference

Hi There!
I just purchesed Apple TV yesterday. I was surprised to see that when connected to my new Samsung TV a very disturbing flashing on the middle of the screen keep jumping up. I have a quality hdmi cable. I have tried connecting via lan to eleminate the wifi problem. Still I cant figure out what is happening. I have no special electrical equipment beside fridge and so on. Though a lot of apple products! I have tried connecting to an older smaller TV with less disturbance. Any help?
Michael

You can do one of two things to stop unwanted interference from an apple remote:
1) Disable the mac's response to the remote
2) Pair a mac to a specific remote
Both are done easily at System Preferences->Security, the settings there are self-explanatory.

  • Apple TV interference with my macbook pro and my wife's macbook

I recently bought the new Apple TV. My wife and I have same iTunes account. I have turned on home sharing only in the iTunes in my macbook pro. Still then, the apple tv's remote operation interferes with my wife's macbook and also, searches photos on her iPhoto in her macbook rather than searching on mine. Also, I try to play something on the TV with the apple TV, and simultaneously some other random video opens on my iTunes ! We both run the latest iTunes software. How can I fix this? It is kind of annoying...

  • Please help: Chronic Airtunes Drop-outs/2.4 Ghz Interference

For several months, I have been battling interference with airtunes/AX, which is now so bad that it's barely usable. The music stops/starts constantly, and sometimes iTunes just stops. The signal strength indicator (normally 4 bars) jumps all over the place, going down to 3 and 2 bars. I used the same equipment set-up for over a year with excellent results until several months ago.
    Here's the setup:
Airport Extreme connected to DSL router; Firmware: 5.7
Airport Express1 connected to stereo; Firmware: 6.3
Airport Express2 connected to USB printer; Firmware: 6.3
The AXes are set up to join the Airport Extreme network
3 Macs are on the network, and all experience the same symptoms. Powerbook1 (PB1) runs 802.11g; PB2 and iMac run 802.11b. PB1 has Interference Robustness enabled; the others don't support it. It seems to help slightly. No microwave or other Apple-defined interference source near any of the airport base stations.
PB1 is 24 feet from Airport Extreme and 20 feet from AX1
    PB2 and iMac comparable distances.
I've been at the Genius Bar and have tried these things at their suggestion, and none have made a perceived difference.
    -Turned off IPv6
    -In Airport Admin Util:
--Changed channel from "automatic" to 1, 5, 9, 11 and others
--Increased multicast rate to 11 and 5.5
    --Transmitter power 100%
    --Interference Robustness enabled here
Thanks to Joe for suggesting Air Traffic Control widget to check your signal strength.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/airtrafficcontrol.h tml
It shows 2 neighbors on channels 1 and 6, so I put ours on 9. I hypothesize that it's a 2.4 ghz phone or other device.
    What more can I do?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Did some more sniffing ,^) and came up with these tools for detecting signal strength, including 2.4 ghz interference sources:
This one looks to provide less information, but it doubles as a wifi ap finder:

  • Problem streaming FROM iTunes to Apple TV

I recently reinstalled windows on my computer, and copied the old iTunes settings to my new installation. Everything works fine, except for streaming from iTunes to my Apple TV 2. I have no problems when using my Apple TV to select podcasts or music in the Library on my computer, they play fine. However, when I use iTunes to play these podcasts or songs on my Apple TV (using Airplay) they have constant hiccups. Every 20-30 seconds, the sound stutters. My wifi connection is not the problem, the Apple TV, computer and router are all in the same room close to eachother (and I have the maximum number of bars on my wifi connection).
I have read somewhere that it may be related to old network preferences kept by iTunes, and have tried to delete the old com.apple.iTunes.plist file, but this did not help.
Does anybody have any idea to solve this annoying problem?

I am amazed as well. I have spent days and hours trying to figure this out! I believe it is a software glitch that allows sesitivity to vary! Signal strength stays @100%, there are no other houses for 50 yards in a wooded environment and no other electronic devices to possibly interfere with the signal. With only 20 feet seperating airport and apple tv you would think it would be stable. This is more then disappointing. With my system the same thing happens as with yours?? Apple says interference but I know that is not the case. I had the same problem at 3 in the morning and this place is dead at 3 in the morning. Not even a car!! Sometimes iTunes just drops off station and apple tv stays synced can't explain that either??

  • Airport Issue, once more

Hello, ive been trying to fix this a long time but i never made it. I seriously need some help and im sry if my post is same with many other's posts, but seems that Apple didnt even try to fix it so i guess im just desparate for some help.
Ok so, browsing the internet through a wired ethernet connection causes no problems. Using Airport though..... gets the connection to drop from time to time, and i wouldnt be bothered if this didnt happen SO MANY TIMES. Any other computer connected to the same wireless network has no problems at all.
I found few tweaks after googling, but lets face it, im not a mac professional as i dont own my Mac Pro for so long, so i dont feel like tweaking than just getting an effective, official fix from apple. "Interference Robustness" doesnt works as i found out it only works with apple's products and not any other routers (which yet again, apple didnt bother to mention, searching this site and i only found a single line mentioning about Interference Robustness).
So yes, i do have a cordless phone, i do have few bluetooth devices... Arent those what people use nowdays? And no thats not the case coz like i said, any other computers work just fine. And i used to believe that my airport card was defective, but seems that many others got the same issue as me, still no honest answer from apple.
Im running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) and im using the Airport wireless card provided by apple with the mac pro. I need some help, and sry if i sound a bit of angry, but FOR GOD SHAKE, APPLE STOP IGNORING US! Ive paid much for my mac pro, and it cant even connect to the internet through wifi. I think apple MUST fix this or give us our money back...

We are just users. If you want to send feedback, there are feedback pages.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
And there are some troubleshooting tips out there - from Apple and others, found a couple using Google:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=utf8&oe=utf8&q=AppleAirport+WirelessTrouble
A search through the forum turns up some, but I don't use wireless or Airport myself. I do know modems and routers that worked on XP sometimes needed firmware updates to work with Vista, or just didn't work.
Routers and modems that worked on older Mac hardware also needed to be updated and in some cases new models, so first thing would be to look for airport firmware and other drivers or utility updates.
Maybe there is a shielding problem, I do know proximity to base station for phones and such can cause problems.

  • How to install one app on several iPhones with different AppleID

    Hi all,
I have to roll out a view iPhones (approx. 500) in the next days and all of them need one app on it in advance before I can provide the user with the unit.
All iPhones should work with a different AppleID and the app has to be updated by iTunes Store in the future.
    To be more specific:
    approx 500 iPhone 5
    MobileIron is the app
every iPhone uses a different AppleID in the future
Is there any way to install the MobileIron app with NO APPLEID and the future used AppleID will be implemented into the app so that it will be updated with the real users AppleID in the future?
I think there must be a way without using an own "App Store" in the company or without a general AppleID for all users ...
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks

I think Apple has this same problem with all of the MDM solutions that use an app.
Apple, Enterprises need to be able to push these MDM agents out, update and maintain versions.  Sharing an Apple ID and making every user bring their device in so we can use configurator is ridiculous when you purchase an MDM solution you expect to be able to handle app deployment without Apple Store interference.  Also ridiculous is making people that don't want Apple IDs set them up, we can't make people do this.  So we can't make them keep their apps up to date, and we have to have them bring their devices in to us to manually update.
Integrating Apple devices into the Enterprise is setting us back 20 years in support.  We've learned to automate deployment for everything now these devices come along with the app store and they are so consumer focussed that they cannot even be managed in an Enterprise properly.

  • Is there a way to actaully talk to someone at apple whereby it doesn't cost money? I downloaded an app and now the stupid phone says that there is compass interference and to move away from the interference. Well, I am in the middle of a field. Now what?

Is there actually a way to talk to a service person at Apple where you don't have to shell out money? I downloaded an app that cost $9.99 and when I tried to use it I get a message that says there is compass interference and to move away from the interference or wave the phone in a figure 8 pattern. Well, now I have a sore arm from constant waving out in the middle of a field and it appears that is going to cost $29 to talk to a person. Does anyone have any idea why this is occuring? As a side note, I can use a normal compass with no issues so it is the phone. From a customer perspective, this is poor customer service.

First of all, an idle threat is one that a person has no intention of carrying out. In the past 16 months that I have had this phone I have become less and less satisfied and found that it is like much of today's technology....over rated and under performing. The one thing that I have never been accused of is not wanting, or not giving help but when a company makes itself unavailable to resolve issues and leaves it to forums run by users helping users, it speaks more about the company than anything else they could do. As I said, I do not make idle threats and I did not threaten you in any way. Guess I'll call this topic done with as it is not and was not the intent to get a war started

  • Sound interference with my apple tv. Why?

Why is there sound interference when I am playing a film or music on my apple tv?

    Thx for the welcome,
When I am playing films or streaming music from my macbook it sounds like clicking type of noises in the background. I have the apple tv box connected using optical cables to my bose system.
It doesn't seem to happen when i'm listening to the radio. So i'm not sure if it is something to do with the network?

  • My ipod sounds as if it has interference when on docking station.....3 other apple devices work with no such problem...i.e nano ,classic and 2x separate iphones, with no problems .I have been given a 2nd ipod touch replacement, it plays with interference

    ipod problems
My ipod sounds as if it has interference when on docking station....3 other apple devices work with no such problems, i.e a nano. a classic and 2 separate iphones    so the problem doesn't seem to be the docking station...I have been given 2 reolacement ipods and the sound persists....it is obviously the connection.....as before downloading any data on the new ipod I docked it and the noise was present ....mairiskye....

    - Is it a 4G iPod? That model sometimes mates poorly with dock because the configuration of the iPod by the dock connector is different that other devices. Thus, make sure it is fulld/seated in the dock.
    - Have you brought the iPod and dock to the Genius at the an Apple store.

  • Time Machine Backup interference with Apple wireless mouse

Has anyone else noticed that if the Time Machine wireless Backup to a Time Capsule kicks in it interfers with the wirelss mouse? Is there any way around this?

I don't think it has anything to do with the wireless TC. I have Time Machine set up to backup to my network (NAS) drive and I get interference whether I use AirPort or hardwired ethernet, though the hard wired seems a little better. But I still get dropped mouse moves, what looks like "interference" but probably is not. More likely Time Machine and the Mouse are both sharing an interrupt and not sharing it well. The impact of wireless may have to do with the compression and encryption that is going on rather than RF interference.
All of which gets me no closer to fixing it. It's times like this that I long for open source on the Mac ...
I tried the Microsoft mouse driver package (Intellimouse 8.01 for Mac) in the hope that it might install a better driver, but no luck. And since it's the mouse that is getting starved for attention and not Time Machine, it's more likely that Time Machine is the culprit.
Best of luck getting Apple interested in debugging a problem that only affects Microsoft's mouse ...

  • Apple TV generating radio interference

    Hi All
I've just bought myself an Apple TV, and have noticed that it interferes significantly with the FM radio, especially around the 88-90 MHz band - ie BBC Radio 2 in the UK. It's definitely the AppleTV unit - you turn it off (ie unplug it), the interference goes; turn it on, and it comes back.
Is this a known problem? Or have I got a dodgy box?
    Cheers.
    Chris

So are you saying it's a known issue?
no, i'm not saying that at all.
Unfortunately using the ethernet connection is not an option.
why not ? have you heard of powerline adapters such as these ?
If it is because I am using wifi, I'm puzzled how using a GHz wireless network would interfere with a MHz radio signal, but I'll give turning wireless off a try.
wireless interference usually works the other way round (something interfering with your wifi network) but comes in different flavors.

  • Interference to sound on Home TV Recorder when Apple TV on Standby

Have Sound interference on Home Recorder Freeview Digital when watching and playback of Recorded programmes, with Apple TV on Stanby, switch it off at mains and Sound OK.

It would be best to seek support for the recorder.

  • GSM interference in Apple earbuds?

I am well aware of the GSM interference issues with external speakers, etc. However, I frequently hear the same GSM interference through my Apple supplied earbuds.
For some reason, I thought that was not supposed to happen. Is it normal? Do other people experience this? I just want to make sure that there is not something wrong with my iPhone.
    Thanks for any responses

    Hi Sean,
I think I also have this GSM buzz with my earphone.
I recently found this myself and I was very
surprised. I think this is a normal behavior,
or may be a quality control issue of some production
line of iPhones. So I wonder if you are trying to
replace your current phone with AppleCare, could
you please post your result with new replacement?
(then I may be interested to try a replacement too)
Anyway this is what I found.
How one can reproduce this GSM buzz with earphone:
    (0) find a quiet room
    (1) turn off Wifi
    (2) put your earphone
    (3) try to use EDGE network by one of these
    weather info
    (ii) stock info
(iii) try to load a web page with Safari
    (4) if you do one of (3) and see EDGE activity
indicator, you can clearly hear GSM buzz
    through your earphone.

  • Interference using Apple TV to Freeview Digital reception

Recently found that when leaving Apple TV on standby and Recording Digital Freeview the sound on the programme and recording of that programme are distorted, yet when Apple TV switched Off at mains the sound is OK. Anyone suffered the same, Recorder Panasonic DMR -EX77

What frequency do the headphones work on - they may well be causing the issue affecting the wi-fi.  Try changing the wi-fi channel.
Other things like cordless landline phones or microwave ovens can have a similar effect.
