Apple TV Issues - waking from sleep and hicup between songs

I have three Apple TVs that I have positioned throughout my house associated with different stereos that I use exclusively to play music from my iPad Air 2 or iPhone 5s. For months now I've endured issues where they won't easily wake. this problem seems to change.  Sometimes I'll be able to wake from the iPad; sometimes I have to use the silver remote.  When I do waken them and get to enjoy music, the transistion from one song to the next hiccups.  I noticed that there are things that will occasionally cause the music to abruptly stop.  Examples are touching the home button or move from iTunes to a music service such as Spotify.  I'm beginning to conclude this is a combination of IOS8 issues but also network issues aggravating it.  I'm interested in learning what others know about this.  There are lots of discussions on the subject already but I started this one because of the waking issue and the hicup and wondering if anyone out there has no issues what so ever with AirPlay through Apple tv.  Thanks!

still no joy, did a reinstall of the OS and its still intermittently not waking once i close the lid and the hard drive stops.
The next thing to do is to get apple to have a look at it. very annoying as I have only had it since 28th Dec but nothing else I can do. Pc world will have it in to fix rather than replace so to be honest I'd rather Apple had a look than some monkey boy with fat clumsy fingers on a YTS scheme lol

  • EMac having issues waking from sleep

I used to own a 1 gig eMac. I never had an issue with it, now that I have sold it however, it's having this issue waking from sleep. The only way to get it back is to power it down by holding the power button.
When I had it, I had Panther running on it's main drive and Tiger running on a firewire drive. Regardless though, I can't see that being the issue (well I guess I can ... I don't want to believe it, but I guess I can). Now it's running Tiger on the 80 gig main drive. When he goes to wake it, the drive spins up but the screen stays dark, but if he holds the power button down it works fine. Go figure?
Has anybody else had this issue. All of the software updates were and have been done since. Though I don't recall exactly which version of Tiger he's on but I know he's on the most recent. Any input will be greatly appreciated of course.
I don't know that the Apple Hardware Test would indicate if a hard drive was about to fail either would it?
    Regards
    Mike

I think what that post was trying to express is that there's often a lag between the release of new Mac hardware and the release of retail OS X Install discs that incorporate all the new drivers that go with the new hardware. That is, if you have a retail OS X disc that was pressed in January, it likely will give poor results if you use it to restore a Mac released in September. If you look at the Software section of System Profiler, after the OS X numerical version you'll find a build number in parentheses; "Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)", say. While you almost always hear the "don't use an earlier version of the OS on your new Mac" warning expressed in terms of the numerical OS X version, it's really the build number that matters. It's safe to say that you can use a retail OS X install disc on a Mac that predates the release of that OS X disc.
Since the 1.0 GHz eMac shipped with Panther 10.3, any retail 10.4 disc will work with it. So on one hand, good news: your buyer doesn't face the fun of doing a reinstall of the OS, but bad news, that leaves the question of why it isn't waking from sleep.
There could be a remote chance that the wireless mouse is involved, although it's unlikely and I've never had such problems with any of the Logitech mice I've used through the years. If you have the LCC (Logitech Control Center) software installed (it'll show up in System Preferences -> Other when using View by Categories) from the CD that came with the mice, you can compare it with the current version 2.6 and possibly upgrade. I'd also check that the mouse's battery is fresh.
You might get a better clue as to what's going on by opening Applications -> Utilities -> Console, select system.log, and look for events timestamped around the time the eMac was put to sleep and again at the it was attempted to wake it. You might find something like:
    AFPSleepWakeHandler: going to sleep
    System Sleep
Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes
Followed, upon waking the computer, by:
    Started CPU 01
IOBluetoothHCIController::restartShutdownWL this is a wake from sleep
    System Wake
    USB caused wake event (EHCI)
AppleYukon2 - en0 link active, 100-Mbit, full duplex, flow control disabled port 0
    kernel[0]: AFPSleepWakeHandler: waking up
mDNSResponder: Repeated transitions for interface en0 (xxx.xxx.xxx.xx); delaying packets by 5 seconds
    configd[67]: posting notification com.apple.system.config.network_change
    lookupd[2678]: lookupd (version 369.6) starting - Wed Aug 20 08:06:57 2008
Some of the calls will depend on whether the Mac is on a network, managed remotely, etc. What you want to look for are any errors or suspicious messages close to the AFPSleepWakeHandler call, around either the System Sleep or System Wake lines.

  • Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feed

Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feedback. I had a powermac before this with the speakers and it worked fine. But the mac pro is having these issues. Is it the firewire port or the speakers or (and most likely) just a firmware glitch with mac pro? Anyone else see these issues?

    http://web.mac.com/jerimydulay/Site/MyAlbums/Pages/Lacie_FirewireMIDI.html
Here is my audio settings. For some reason I wish I could remember what I did. It was actually the Apple Store tech in the Unversity Village in Seattle that gave me the idea and I swear I had to change the settings in MIDI setup. Now that Leopard is out it seems the MIDI stuff has been redone. I included screenshots of my MIDI setup as it is currently to see if you see something different on your computers. Let me know!

  • Macbook issues: waking from sleep & odd sounds

Hello, I've had my macbook for about three weeks now and have experienced this waking from sleep problem several times. Simply what happens is I open the lid and the screen turns on, but all that comes up is the rainbow coloured circle, has anyone else had this problem?
Also rarely when a sound is played like emptying the trash the speakers make an odd crackling noise, and after that if you mute the speakers you get no sound but still noise.
Finally where can I put in the suggestion for frontrow, I'd like to be able to play music in frontrow from my ipod when connected, you can get to shared libraries but not a conncted ipod :/
    Any help is appreciated!

happened again this morning, this time (though this has happened before) all usb ports become unuseable. the trackpad was still useable and i tried to reboot but the system froze.
this seems to happen mostly when its running on battery

  • Keyboard Viewer window opens up after waking from sleep and screensaver

I have the MacBook keyboard freezing problem since upgrading to Leopard. One time (at band camp), I opened the Keyboard viewer so I could enter some text prior to rebooting. Now, the keyboard viewer pops up after every wake from sleep, return from screensaver (both password protected), and sporadically when switching/quitting applications.
I have tried rechecking and unchecking the "keyboard viewer" and "show input menu in menu bar" in System Preferences->International->Input Menu. While not a serious problem, it is rather annoying. How do I get the keyboard viewer to stop opening?
On a related note, there must be a script or program that is run every time the computer wakes from sleep and password protected screensaver that prompts for a password. Anyone know where this is located?
    Peter

Ok, I just tried that. I deleted com.apple.KeyboardViewerServer.plist. I then started my screensaver. When I came back in...the Keyboard Viewer was back and there was a new plist file that was created...so, something else must be controlling it.

  • Quick question re: waking from sleep and timing...

I've noticed that my MBP takes a while for the steady power light to turn to the pulsing power light when putting it to sleep, probably because of the backing up necessary.
Tonight I stepped away from using the laptop. It turned out I was away for longer than I thought I'd be. When I returned, the screen was dark, but the power light was steady on. Confused, I hit a few keys and the trackpad; it took longer than I thought (and longer than it usually does), but woke back up to my login screen per usual.
Considering my timing, I theorize that I returned JUST as it was backing up from sleep. If I'm right, would it "wait" for the sleep backup to complete before waking up? Or does it go to sleep differently when from idle than from active choice? Did I do any harm regardless of whether I'm right? (I assume not, since I'm sure this is a common situation, but just checking.)
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt!
when you export from iMovie to iDVD, does iDVD normally give you any 'heads-up' that it is working? how long does it normally take to open the project in iDVD?)
    Yes, and it's instant.
What you should see is iDVD opening and asking you to create a new project, It will suggest naming it the same as the iMovie project.
There are reports that exporting from Imovie to iDVD can produce problems. What I do is save the iMovie project and close iMovie. Open iDVD, create the new DVD project, then go the File menu in iDVD, scroll down to Import, and in the side menu select Video. This open your Movie Folder, wherein resides your iMovie project. Select it and it imports into iDVD in a flash.
Remember: iMovie projects go in the Movies Folder, iDVD projects go in the Documents folder. Change that, and they get very confused and unhappy.

  • Issues waking from sleep

I've had my macbook pro for a few months, and once i got it setup on my desk using an external lcd and sharing a kb/mouse with another computer via kvm i started noticing a weird issue.
occasionally when the notebook goes to sleep on it's own, it either will be unresponsive and not wake. or it wakes and the kb and mouse can never be recognized by the system again without reboot.
what concerns me most though is that the screen will be black, and it will not wake from sleep at all, and i have to resort to holding down the power button.
    any known issues or fixes?

  • MBP issues with waking from sleep and on opening lid

I have a 2009 macbook pro just 3 weeks old! upgraded from an older macbook
the problem is when it goes to sleep mode and i wake it by opening the lid or pressing any key (trackpad clicking wont wake it) the curser is unresponsive, as are all of the keys apart form the power button - it brings up the box asking if i want to shut down or restart. But I cant choose any as no curser movement! so I have to hold in the power button to hard restart everytime.
I rang apple support who I must say are very helpful everytime. I reset the PRam, reset factory settings ect then he said if still no joy reinstall the system.
All of which I have tried and it is still doing the same problem.
I shall have to give them a call in the morning to see what else they suggest.
Has anyone else had this issue on a new macbook - all updates have been installed and I only use it for web and emails ect so no weird installs going on
    Thanks in advance
    Liz

  • MBP not waking from sleep and getting very hot

When my Mac Book Pro 15 inch is left for a period of time greater than approximately an hour and plugged in it should automatically go into sleep/hibernate mode. Something happens during this period but I can hear the fan running heavily, the MBP is very hot and I can do nothing to wake it. The only option I have found is to hold the power button down for a few seconds to power the unit off then back on. When the MBP restarts I am greeted with the message "The computer was restarted after Mac OX X quit unexpectedly". I have also seen many kernel panics occurr on a regular basis. This is a new Mac Book Pro and was recently sent back to Apple for diagnosis. I was told it was my third party memory but upon instaling my original Mac memory the problem is STILL present.
Anyone else seeing or heard of this type of behavior???

Hi, I am having the sleep problem with my 17" MBP. When I shut the lid down and it goes to sleep mode for short periods it is ok but any period for longer than 1 hr it will not wake when I lift the lid or press any keys on the keypad. It was also turning itself on and going into sleep mode when I left it to charge overnight from a turned off state untill I sent it for repair. Now it just has the sleep problem, what I have noticed is that it does not play up when I start it up in Safe mode. I have just done the hardware test from the install disc and there were no problems, then I did the archive/Install bit and that did not solve it either. Ah well back on the phone tomorrow unless someone can shed any light!

  • 10.8.3  - Messages still out of order after waking from sleep or restart

This bug is still present in Messages, although it was supposed to be fixed with 10.8.3.
I've tried both the App store update to 10.8.3 as well as the combo updater. When I check Messages' version after each, it's 7.0.1 (3318), and the copyright date is 2002-2012. So I'm assuming that the application is not being updated, although I don't know what version of Messages was included in 10.8.2.
Anyone else have the same problem?

    Hi,
It is the same app version and build number.
The Apple Doc linked from the COMBO download page states the "fix" applies to Messages on waking from Sleep and at no other occasion.
It seems that people are also reporting the iMessages are out of order during the Sync (sort of a Known Issue since Messages beta when New iMessages are Instant  and mix with a Sync that is in progress).
They are also reporting them out of order even when not syncing (i.e. the Mac is On and Awake  just not the device in use).
Of these some people are reporting that in some cases the restarting of the app restores the correct order.
It seems this may be the ones that arrive as New during the sync process rather than other occasions.
What is not clear is what steps might help.
Obviously removing the Apple ID in the Mac Version (Sign Out) and shutting the app, restarting it and adding the Apple ID again sound more involved than a fix should be.
However refreshing the Link to the server may be the way to go.

And will not start up in safe mode. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Also restarted with no startup items, no luck. Had the problem of waking from sleep and not shutting down in 10.7, updated to 10.8 hoping for fix, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, this log has some similarities to my ipod touch which seems to be not sleeping properly due to wireless issues. Can I check - are you using a wifi connection - if so have you tried ethernet?

Try removing any haxies you got installed (Xounds) and see what happens.
    /Library/Frameworks/ApplicationEnhancer.framework
    /Library/PreferencePanes/Application Enhancer.prefPane
    /Library/Application Enhancers/Xounds.ape
Better yet run the Application Enhancer Installer and use it's uninstall function.

  • Sluggish upon waking from sleep

when I wake my Mac Book Pro from sleep, my mouse reacts strangely (erratically, sluggishly, etc) for a good 30 seconds. Anyone experience anything similar? Thanks.

Not sure if you've fixed this issue already, but are you using the iStat Pro widget by any chance? I was experiencing the exact same problem (erratic mouse behaviour after waking from sleep), and it was resolved when I removed the iStat Pro widget.
Not to cast aspersions on this particular widget or anything, but removing it seemed to resolve the issue for me.

  • Resolution change when waking from Sleep

I will at times hook up my MBP to a plasma display to show photos. Now-sometimes when waking from sleep (and not attached to an external monitor), it reverts back to 800x600. I have to go to SP to displays and re-detect the MacBook display. Unpredictable and frustrating.

Lets get a few details straightened out first:
    1. What cable are you using to connect? DVI, VGA, HDMI, component, composite, s-video, etc.?
    2. What resolution is it when you connect? If your plasma is an HDTV, it is capable of taking much higher than 800x600, so depending on the cable you use, you can adjust that to make it higher or even the same native resolution.
    3. When you disconnect, is the computer running, or closed/sleeping? If you close, then disconnect, it might think the display is still connected. Or, rather, after switching resolutions back, later on when you open it up it suddly changes to a lower res?
In the meantime, in system prefs, in "Displays" check the box that says "Show displays in menu bar" and then you will get a menu up top to choose your displays and resolution sizes. That will at least make it easier to change.

  • Require password ONLY when waking from sleep

    Hello,
There is a setting that enables a password both when waking from sleep AND when "waking" from screen saver.
Is there a way to require a password ONLY when waking from sleep, but NOT when "waking" from screen saver?
    Thanks!

It would appear that the two are inextricably linked. On the other hand, do you really need the screen saver? With an LCD screen it isn't really doing anything useful - you can't burn in static images nearly as easily as you can with a CRT display - and if you are using a laptop you would do much better to use the Energy Saver prefs pane to sleep the display after a period - this will extend the life of the backlight - and AFAIK no password is involved.
