Apple TV - iTunes 8.0 Photos Sync Problem

I have all my Pictures on a Separate Media Drive on my Computer. All the pictures are arranged in folders by the dates they are taken. I have this drive shared on my network and the drive added as a folder in my iTune 8.0 Library.
When I sync my iTunes with my Apple TV all the music file, movies gets copied but not this Media Drive with Photos.
I did a test by pointing to the pictures folder under my user name in the 'C' drive through the iTunes > Apple TV > photo Tab, and it copied the two pictures that I had there to the Apple TV.
The iTunes > Apple TV > Photo Tab, sees this Media drive 'B' with the picture folers arranged by dates and lets me select the folders and starts to sync when I click apply. I have tried this repeatedly and left my Apple TV and computer on several times overnite, reset the Apple TV but dit not work. I also noticed that the syncing just does not stop.
When I had the same setup on my XP computer all my Photos folders arranged by dates all 9000+ pictures could be viewed on the Apple TV.
I appreciate all your help to solve this problem.

I am running iTunes 8.0.2.20 on Vista and Apple TV with version 2.3 and had this same exact problem: On the photo tab of the Apple TV sync page in iTunes I could "see" my Pictures folder and first level subfolders and it would even correctly count the number of pictures in each folder, including subfolders. However, if you went to sync, it would not sync anything in the subfolders, but rather would just say "Syncing Apple TV" forever.
I SOLVED the issue in my case by moving my My Pictures folder to a simple NAS box attached to my network (QNAP TS-101). When I tried again, everything syncs to the Apple TV, even the photos in nested subfolders. This leads me to think that the problem may be that they somehow changed how iTunes interacts with drive permissions in version 8. The NAS box to which I transferred my My Pictures folder is set to allow wide open access to anyone as opposed to all of the complicated NTFS permissions and file sharing permissions that are set on the drives directly connected to my computer.
I stopped dealing with this once I got my setup to work via the external NAS box, but you might want to try the following: Right-click on the top-level folder containing your photos and go to the Security tab (that is where NTFS permissions are, which is different than Sharing permissions). Give Users "Full Control" and make that an inheritable trait for subfolders. If given the choice, don't allow main folder to inherit traits from above (I think that is a choice in XP). Then try to sync with the Apple TV via iTunes.
On a separate but related note, if you have a Mac, I read elsewhere that someone fixed a similar problem to ours by using Disk Utility to repair permissions on the drive containing the photos and then trying again to sync.
Hope that helps--good luck.

  • Photo sync problem with Windows Vista?

I did some searching and was wondering if there is a solution to the photo sync problem with Windows Vista. I have gone the route of changing some of my photos to bitmap files but this is was way too much work just to view on ipod. I like to email Apple but could not find a link to do so. As far as I know I have all updates but still the iPod does not sync photos. Is there an update to this that I am missing or am I stuck changing all my photos to .bmp files?
    Thanks,
    Dean.

I checked out the article and not much help, thanks anyway.
Would it make a difference if I purchased Adobe Photo Album or would I still be stuck with changing and saving files to .bmp extensions? I have Adobe Photoshop album starter but still have to change file extensions.
If someone has a solution to this problem I would really be greatfull. I did contact Dell as this is a brand new computer and that was a wash. They did give me a number for Apple but of course I bought the iPod off of ebay and has no warranty on it so unless I pay a fee I'm not calling. It just blows my mind that Microsoft and Apple can't or won't come up with a fix. But I guess when Microsoft wants you to buy the Zune or Apple wants you to buy the overpriced Macintosh why would they waste time on having there products compatible with each other.
    Thanks.

  • Itunes/apple tv continuously losing the photo sync settings

    Folks,
I have a large music collection synced to my apple tv from itunes. No issues with the music syncing.
Similarly I have nearly 40Gb of photos (~18000 images) synced. I don't use iphoto to manage these and hence I don't sync from iphoto. Instead I've opted to sync photos from a specified folder (~/Pictures/ATV) on my macbook. iTunes is then configured to sync the contents of this folder to the Apple TV.
When I make changes to this folders contents, I then run iTunes to have it sync these to the Apple TV.
However it often forgets that I'm syncing photos from this folder.. meaning that when I start itunes, the apple sync will take place and no pictures are transferred.. checking the photos tab of the device shows the Sync from Folder option unchecked (the folder itself is still selected in the combo list).. re-checking it will prompt to confirm syncing photos and then reactivate the syncing. But this wipes all photos from the Apple TV and then starts to resync the entire 40Gb of photos again which takes hours.
It seems that when small changes are made to the folder contents, that it still works. But larger changes such as deletion of one or more of the existing folders or adding of one or more new folders causes the problem.
This is a bag of pain! Either itunes can sync to the ATV from a folder or it can't. I don't want to use iPhoto.. I don't like it, it takes too long to import photos.
So can someone please tell me if this is a bug with photo folder syncing from itunes and/or Apple TV or if others have experienced the same kind of problem.
    Thanks,
    Cormac

    Hi Cormac,
Since I upgraded to iTunes 9.0.3, I have exactly the same problem, even if I'm using iPhoto.
Each times, once I closed iTunes, when I reopen it and the sync with my Apple TV and iPhone begin, both units lose all my pictures (like you, around 15,000 images)... :o(
Apparently, this "bug" (more on this below), appears only when you choose to sync all your events, pictures, faces... If you choose a little partial sync (like 5 last events), the bug is not in effect (at least for me).
And yes, I called that the bug because we had a similar issue with a previous version of iTunes (9.0 or 9.0.1, I believe). Apple admitted it was a bug and the problem was fixed with the next version. Apparently, they broke it again with iTunes 9.0.3! :o(
The weird thing is, though, I cannot find anybody else on the Net, other than you and me having the same issue.
Sorry I didn't bring a solution to you but now, at least, you know you are not alone and will not spend hours and hours trying to figure what's wrong with your computer...
It is becoming annoying though that Apple is becoming like Windows. They fix something on one side but broke something else on the other...

  • After 5.1 update photo sync problems

After I updated my iPhone 4S, iPad1 and iPad2 to IOS 5.1 I'm having problems syncing my photos.  I also just bought a new iPad3 that came with IOS 5.1 installed and it has the same problems using iTunes to sync on my Windows 7 (64) PC.  The problems are:  not all photos sync into each album, many photos show up in the wrong album and several thumbnails don't match the photo displayed when I tap on it.  Their are two common denominators: my PC running the latest iTunes (version 10.6.0.40) and all my devices running IOS 5.1.  I've reported the iPad3 problem to Apple (case number 299629840) and the support tech and I have tried deleting the iPod photo cache, reloading the IOS software, etc. with no luck.  The purpose of this post is to see if others are having the same problems with other devices on 5.1.

I am having a similar issue.
    - iOS 5.1 on a 4S.
    - Itunes 10.6.1
    - Iphoto 9.2.3
With the 4S connected via wifi I select "Sync photos with" "selected albums..." I check one album only with four photos in it. Hit sync and the I watch the photos transfer in the top bar of itunes as it syncs. The orange status bar at the bottom goes up to show the photo data is on the 4S. I open the photo app on the 4S and the photos do not show up at all. No new album, no photos. The data appears to be there, but the 4S is not showing them.
I've tried deleted the ipod photo cache a few times and restoring. No change.

  • Photo Sync Problems SOLUTION FOUND !!!

Wanted to share a fix I have found for iPad problem when failing to sync photographs from itunes to ipad/iphone.
Problem was that when photos are syncing it goes 'optimising photos' then fails at the first image saying roughly 'the image including xxxx.jpg failed cos it was incompatible to be displayed on the ipad'.
I solved this, I can see 100s of posts across the net from people with similar problems.
I was mislead that it was to do with the jpgs having colour profiles that are incompatible, it was NOT.
The problem was solved when I tried syncing from images kept on a memory stick instead of on the hard drive, and it worked... so why??? Well. The answer was found in that I tried another hard drive (as a D drive) and tried another external USB hard drive with photos on and they both behave perfectly. WHY??? BECAUSE they are all formatted as FAT32, whereas the main hard drive is formatted in NTFS.
So... now I keep all the photos on another FAT32 Hard drive. SORTED.
(this was on XP, but check it out on any windows system with the problem)

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Thanks for soting out that issue.
There is still a question that comes to mind of cross checking the numerous posts of a similar problem to determine what mass storage they have been using. That is, are all the problem reports from people using NTFS and flash drives, or are there some from other formats as well.
Now if you wanted to be a real sport and do that...:-)
You've given something good to use as a reference now.

  • Photo Sync problem - Cannot read or write to disk?

Initial sync of my iPad. Photos seemed to download from iPhoto. Space indicated that entire photo library had been copied to iPad. when I go to look for the pictures on the iPad, the screen message is that no photos exist. Back on the iMac, a notice said that the: "The iPad XXX iPad cannot be synced. The disk cannot be read to or written from."
Th sync of my music library had no such problems. What am I doing wrong....all is fine except the photos sync.
    Thanks!

This issue is discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1207
A common resolution is that one or more of the images being synced is corrupt / unreadable.
Remove the cached photos so that a fresh copy can be made: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • ITunes 10.5.3 syncing problems

Ever since I have updated iTunes I have been having problems. Half the time it won't even open or recognize my iPod at all. When it does recognize it, I receive an error when I try and sync it. Usually it's error -60 or sometimes it's an error 50. Is there anything I can do to fix these problems or is it just the newest version of iTunes screwing up?

Ever since 10.5 came out, I've been reading the RSS feed of this group to see if it was safe to upgrade, and I've been seeing more and more synch problems, especially corruption of the iPod Classic harddisk requiring reloading, and problems and interactions with antivirus. I'm very glad that I've stayed on the 10.4 version; it validates my notion of not upgrading iTunes unless you must (there was one point where the iTunes store stopped working and I had to upgrade).
I've summarized what I've seen on this forum on a post in my blog. There I've identified a site that supposedly has older versions of iTunes available, although I'd prefer a pointer to an internal Apple site. What I don't know is whether the database format is the same. You could try backing up your database (i.e., the .itdb, .itl, and .xml files in your iTunes directory), following the Apple procedure to complete remove iTunes (found at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925).
I don't know if Apple is aware of the Synch problems created for the iPod Classic in the 10.5.x series, but unless you need to upgrade, I'd suggest waiting. Watch this forum and see what comments show up. For those posting here... please identify the version of iTunes you are using, and what has changed on your system between the last time you were able to synch correctly and when synch started failing.

Sorry, but your problem is not anywhere close to the OP's question, not in the same ballpark. The OP's question isn't a problem for starters.
I have not seen your problem reported here. I've haven't seen anyone report all photos on their computer are optimized for viewing on their iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process that are not selected to be transferred to their iPhone.
Try deselecting Sync Photos under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync. This should remove all photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your computer. Follow this by reselecting Sync Photos and the folders or albums you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.
If no change after this, you may need to delete the iPod Photo Cache on your Mac followed by another sync. This will require all photos selected to be transferred to your iPhone being re-optimized for viewing on your iPhone with a new iPod Photo Cache for the photos transferred to your iPhone being re-created.

  • ITunes 10.5.2 sync problem

Running a MacBook with OS X Lion 10.7.2.  iTunes 10.5.2 sync's fine on calendar, photos, music, but will not update contacts on my iPhone or iPad.  Everything was fine prior to latest upgrade??? of iTunes.  Does anyone have a solution?

After seeing all the other problems, it appears to be a general problem with iTune 10.5.2 which affects different computers in different ways.  On mine, all my music, calendar, apps, etc sync fine,  The problem just relates to the address book.  iTunes says it is syncing contacts, but the files are not changed.  Anybody else have this problem? and if so is there a fix?

I find out that any photo not in sRGB and do not have iccc color problem will have this problem i can be fix by convert it to sRGB and add iccc profile but it should not be this way ..
the problem just with photo app that come with ipad, i test with adobe photo express it does the same problem color go all jack up.
as now big big problem is can't seem to get photo sync correctly without 1 problem or other .. with 32Gb hdd i can't even get all photo that show 15gb in pc

I'm running iOS 5.1 on my iPhone4 and my new iPad3. But I never saw this color effect on my iPhone3G or iPod2G as well. I did sync some slideshows as well, but that is done on a Mac, not a Windows PC.
What are the settings on your camera when you shoot the photos? Is the sRGB profile embedded by the camera? Any RAW formated pictures involved?

  • ITunes on Windows 8 Syncing Problems Solved!

NOTE: I have only had this problem on Windows 8, not Windows 7, so if you're having trouble on Windows 7, this might not help you.
If you are experiencing the issue where your device never fully syncs, disconnects halfway through, freezes after "waiting for changes to be applied," then I believe this solution will help you.
    Follow these steps:
    1) Locate your iTunes.exe file. This can be found by the following path: Start--> All Apps (little arrow that appears on bottom left of screen when you mouse over it) -->This PC (on the far right) --> whatever drive you installed iTunes on (if you are not sure, it is the C drive by default) --> Program Files (x86) --> iTunes --> in this folder you will see a file labeled "iTunes.exe" or just "iTunes" make sure you're NOT on the "iTunesHelper" icon for the next step.
    2) Right-click on the file and hit "Properties"
    3) Click the tab labeled "Compatibility"
    4) Check the box labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
    5) Click the drop-down menu just underneath that check box and choose "Windows 7"
    6) Now check the box labeled "Run this program as an administrator
    7) Click "Apply"
    8) Click "Ok"
    9) All done! Now try syncing whatever device was giving you trouble and it should work. My iPhone had to sync about 3000 songs and it failed about halfway through, but all I had to do was restart the sync and it finished the remaining 1500 or so.
Just thought I should offer this tip for those of you running Windows 8 and having syncing problems .

Yes that is a standard fix:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • ITunes Crash on photo sync tab

My mother in laws Itunes crashes when you try to adjust the photo sync preferences.
I just downloaded 2.0 for the phone. rebooted several times, same crash every time

Anyone? What are the specs of the images? Maybe I can just copy them to the hidden folder.

  • Photo sync problems

I have tried syncing photos from my computer (Win7 OS) from the native My Pictures files and from Picasa. I have tried doing all folders and individual folders. The sync starts with it telling me that it is optimizing the photos and the volume bar shows that it is importing a large group of photos. As soon as the optimization ends and the import begins, it imports one photo, the volume bar drops out and I wind up with only one photo out of 1165. I have tried everything to get it to work but this happens every time. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

I finally figured out the problem and it has nothing to do with the iPad. I went into each individual picture folder properties on my PC and unchecked the box that says "Read only" and then clicked "Apply". I then synced the pictures using the select individual folders option and every photo synced to the iPad...FINALLY!

  • ITunes/Photoshop Elements Photo Sync Fails After PSE Upgrade

After upgrading from Photoshop Elements version 9 to version 13, the iTunes "Sync Photos from Photoshop Elements" feature no longer works.
iTunes continues to show the albums from version 9, and photo syncing any of the albums causes iTunes to fail into an un-ending loop without an error message. Photo syncing from other folders works fine.  I temporarily re-installed Elements 9 and iTunes photo sync began to work, but using the old version 9 photo catalog.
Is there a fix that will get iTunes to sync with Elements 13 photo albums? Are there files or registry entries that need to be re-pointed to the Elements 13 photo catalog?
I'm running Windows 7 with SP1 and iTunes 12.0.1.26 on a very capable HP PC.
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks ... Tom

While I haven't heard a solution to posts I've made to both Adobe and iTunes sites, I have found a manual workaround.
The catalog files that iTunes uses are of the format "catalog.pseXdb".
In my case, the new catalog is "catalog.pse13db" and the old is "catalog.pse9db". These files are found in catalog folders like: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\Elements 9 Catalog
    With iTunes and PSE closed,
    1) copy the catalog.pse13db file to the "Elements 9 Catalog folder.
    2) rename the old catalog.pse9db file to keep it and deactivate it
    3) rename catalog.pse13db to catalog.pse9db
iTunes will continue to use the older catalog file, but it now has new catalog contents.  The manual part is that this will need to be done prior to each time you want to sync new catalog content to your devices.
Somewhere around PSE version 7, the catalog file format changed, so this technique may not work for upgrades from about v7 upward.

  • ITunes Photo Sync Problems

i am having problems getting photos to sync in ITunes. Everytime I ask it to sync photos,it starts "optimizing" the pictures.Next thing I know, my computer blue screens and crashes. I have tried to do this on 2 different Win Vista machines with the same results.Has anyoe encountered this? It would be nice to be able to do pics as the IPhone shoul

    Try here:
    iTunes: Unable to sync photos
Usually deleting the iPod Photo Cache Folder works. Note that if you sync via the folder method, make sure you dlete all the ifolders since :
The iPod Photo Cache stores the photos that are optimized for display on your iPod, iPad, or iPhone. The location of this folder depends on the syncing options you select. In iTunes, if you change the selection in the “Sync Photos From” pop-up menu, a new iPod Photo Cache folder will be created (and the previous folder will remain).
