Apple TV - iTunes Home Sharing - Mac mini - Not Working!!!

Hi everyone, I am in urgent need of help here!
I use the latest Mac mini to hold my iTunes Library to stream it over to my Apple TV with Home Sharing; however, there is a problem - it doesn't work anymore!
If I use my iMac or MacBook Pro, the Home Sharing works great to the Apple TV, without a single problem. For the past week and a half now though, my Mac mini just doesn't want to stream anything over, despite still appearing under the "Computers" column on the home screen of the Apple TV interface.
When I select my Mac mini, I get this seemingly endless loading screen:
http://goo.gl/s0Qg1
When that loading screen does end though, I get this:
http://goo.gl/xj3eY
It says "Could not connect to the Mac mini Library - Make sure your computer has iTunes open, and that it's on the same network as Apple TV."
I always verify that my iTunes is open on the Mac mini and that both the Mac mini and Apple TV are on the same network, and still nothing works.
Is there just some kind of issue with streaming the iTunes Library to the Apple TV via Home Sharing that I'm missing? There shouldn't be, but it's a very consistant problem that has come and gone away at random times, but now it seems to be a permanent and upsetting problem.
If anyone can help me on this matter, please send your helpful words because I would like to fix this problem and not deem my Mac mini as a waste of money. I actually bought the Mac mini for the purpose of streaming my iTunes Library, rather than to bog down my iMac with lag and memory being chewed up, because I need it being fast for my work.
Thank you!

I've got the same problem. Bought a second Apple TV2 a couple of weeks ago and set it up to work with both my iMac and MBP - no problems. Both Apple TV's worked perfectly from both computers until... after a long night at work, the newest one decided to display a message telling me an update was available. Yes, you guessed it! I updated!
Now, although this new Apple Tv displays the libraries from both machines, I get the messages in the original post when I try to access my iMac account - no problem though with my MBP account. Both machines have the up-to-date versions of iTunes. Thank goodness I did not update the older Apple TV2 box!
I echo the sentiments of all the other posts - it is about time Apple pulled their finger out and sorted this mess.
I wonder how many other people have the same problem?

  • Windows 7 iTunes Home Sharing or AirPlay not working? - Checkpoint

Wanted to share this for anyone else who ends up searching, as it took me a couple days to track it down.  Both Home Sharing and AirPlay stopped working when I upgraded iTunes to 10.2.2, they were both working with 10.1.x.  I tried a number of things, including downgrading, factory reset on my router, etc. and finally tracked it down to my Checkpoint VPN.  Don't know why the problem didn't exist while I was on 10.1, but regardless removing Checkpoint fixed my issue.  Note that I didn't need to be connected to anything via Checkpoint, just having it installed was enough.

I tried re-installing again and did a restart and it seems to be working again.

  • Home Sharing from Mac mini not working to Apple TV anymore

    Hi there,
My Mac mini (2010 version) is being used as a home theatre. I have been able to connect to my Mac mini through the "Shared" tab in the Finder on my iMac and MacBook Pro along with my Apple TV through Home Sharing on iTunes, up until yesterday.
When I try accessing my Mac mini shared folder in Finder, it just says "Connecting" for a very long time, before it tells me "Connection Failed."
On my Apple TV, which is a big problem because my entire iTunes library feeds my Apple TV, it just doesn't show up anymore at all.
Are there any solutions to any of these problems?
    Thank you so much,
    Marcus Cyganiak

have you tried rebooting your mini ?
you also might want to try booting into _*safe mode*_, repairing permissions using *disk utility* while in it, then rebooting normally.

  • ITunes on new Mac mini not recognizing my 1st gen iPod

I just got a new Mac mini. It has iTunes v6.0.4. My 1st generation iPod is v1.5. When I buy a song and attempt to transfer it from the 'Purchased' folder to my iPod, I'm getting an error message that says, 'Some of the songs in the iTunes music Library were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer.' Do I need to plug my iPod into the computer I was using before and click on 'Deauthorize Computer' before I try to use this one?

  • ITunes Home Sharing library will not open

When I click on my sisters library ybder Shared it disapears. It does not open or load so I cannot download songs she has in her library. Now, when I open my itunes the shared section of the side bar is not even showing up. Please help!

Hi!, I hope my english still works and helps you: using Home sharing I have same issue on my 2 machines (iMac PPC with 10.5 & Macbook PRO intel with 10.6) and the HDD on first machine was partitioned and iTunes's library was copied on 2nd partition. Well, now the "old" iMac PPC reads and copies all library from Macbook, but not vice-versa so both libraries must be in the Home directory.
Hoping to be a help, I wish you a happy new year!

  • Mac Mini not working with AOL Cable modem

    All,
I just bought a brand new Mac Mini but it not working with AOL. My windows XP PC working well with AOL but not with mac mini. Any suggestions? thanks
    Hung

I just found an interesting thing that i brought my mac mini to Apple store where i bought it. Hook up with store cable, it can go thru to internet with out sign on AOL. ALso I can connect to AOL very easy. Brought it back home, I tried to open browser w/o sign on AOL like i did at Apple store, it did not work. I also tried to sign on AOL alone, still not work either. The weird thing is, my other Windows XP computer is working well with AOL. I called customer service of AOL for help, who takes care the Mac computer, asked me to follow the simple procedure that I already did before i called them like unplug cable modem, restart computer...etc. Nothing new, and then they transfered me back and forth between Mac and Windows specilist with no help. I was on phone with them for 2 hours yesterday. I'm very disappoint with AOL customer service with the way they serve the customer. I'm thinking to cancel membership with AOL where i stay with them more than 10 years, and look for another cable or DSL ISP. Now I'm packing the Mac Mini back to box and bring it to Apple store to return it. Next thing, is search around which ISP, who supports the Apple comp. I'm living at Los Angeles area where's very easy to find a local ISP Verizon, Earthlink, Road Runner... I'll be back to buy a new Mac when i get the internet ready. I love Apple computer, and i want to have it.

  • Setting up home sharing on 4S not working

I entered my username and password and the first time I did it, I entered the wrong password and now there does not seem to be a way to submit my username and password. I tried rebooting it, though there is not a submit button after typing in both fields. How do you activate home sharing afer typing in both your username and password?
    Thanks.

I don't see why the songs would even show up if it was an issue with the devices being able to communicate.
Have you tried playing any songs at all on the iPad - just play something - anything at all - on the iPad itself - not from the shared library.
Or have you tired quitting the music app completely and then try again. Double tap the home button to get to the music app icon - tap and hold down until it wiggles - tap the minus sign .... I'm sure you know the drill.
Does the school have something set up security wise that would prevent the songs from playing? Of course, that sort of goes back to the songs are seen so it does appear that the devices see each other.
Does the Mac see the shared library on the iPad? I can't remember if it is supposed to work both ways. You can click on home sharing in iTunes on the Mac and see.

  • Mac mini not working with logitech h130 headset's microphone

    Hi,
I have a mac mini (late 2014) model that appears to not work with my headset's microphone, my headset is a logitech h130 that works perfectly with all other devices that I have (which are not apple), please fix! ASAP

Assuming that the headset has two 3.5 mm plugs you need one of these to combine the headphone and jack into one 3.5 mm plug

  • ML clean install on 2013 Mac Mini - not working

    Hello guys,
I have a weird problem with my new Mac Mini. I received it yesterday, the first thing I wanted to do was to format "Macintosh HD" and do a clean install of Mountain Lion using a bootable USB. I will be using the computer only for audio composing / mixing and I don't want any pre-installed junk on it. I've done this numerous times with other Macs in the past. However, when I try to boot using the Mountain Lion USB, it gives me a "prohibited sign" and I can't boot from it. Then, I tried to boot with the Mountain Lion recovery partition and re-install Mountain Lion through there, but I can't format the internal HDD using Disk Utility, most likely because the recovery partition is also on that hard drive? I've tried several things, without success:
    Repair disk (permissions)
    Reset PRAM / NVRAM
Make bootable USB's using Disk Utility, Lion Disk Maker and Carbon Copy Cloner
I imagine if I could boot into recovery mode and format the HDD from there, it would work using online recovery, but how can I format the HDD when the recovery partition is also on this HDD? And why doesn't the Mac Mini accept the Mountain Lion installer USB in the first place? Or does the installer not recognize the Mac Mini? Very confused, any help would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    JPeters86 / NL

If your Mac mini has a fusion drive, it shipped with a "special Fusion Drive only" version of Mountain Lion. While the difference is apparently mainly a Fusion Drive aware version of Disk Utility, no other version of Mountain will boot your mini. However, you should be able to reinstall a working copy of Mountain Lion complete with all the apps you did not want by doing a Cold boot (boot from a powered off condition) while holding down the Commd+R keys and performing the reinstallation from the Recovery drive. An internet connection is required.
If by any chance you erased or reformatted the entire drive, thereby deleting the Recovery partition, you can still recover by holding down Option+Command+R during the reboot. This will force a reboot via the internet and will be a lot slower, but you should still be able to install a functional copy of Mountain Lion this way.
Hopefully the two streams of OS X will merge in Maverick.

  • Getting a 4010 error from iTunes Match on Mac and not working on iPhone either.

Anyone else having this problem? It started about 30 minutes ago (8:45 PM Central Time, USA).
    Dave

    Hi,
Create a new blank library. Sign into iTunes then match. This will show all music that is in the cloud - you can stream your music from this library.
When you need to update your library, open up original library with ext hd attached.

  • Home Sharing Mac Problem

So here's what I'm running into....
    Environment:
    iMac
    Airport Extreme
    AppleTV 2
    iPhones and Ipad
I try to enable Home Sharing in iTunes but I get the disappearing icon problem.  The weird thing is that if I log into other accounts on this Mac, the home sharing icon shows up fine.  The AppleTV 2 sees a home share under my account on the iMac but tells me nothing is in it.  The iPhone(s) and iPad are all able to stream from this account fine (even though I cannot see the Home Sharing icon in iTunes).
All devices are on wifi, same network, same subnet, etc.
I'm running the latest upgrades on all products.
I've looked at the Apple articles on Home Sharing.  Nothing has worked.
The firewall on the iMac is set to allow all traffic.  I have not modified the AirPort Extreme.
The weird thing is that I can log in on the iMac under different accounts, and it shows up fine under iTunes but not under mine (which frustratingly has almost all the music and videos we've purchased.
I had an old AppleTV and at least with it, I could stream from my iMac, not so easy with the Home Sharing and new AppleTV.
    Any ideas?

The Sharing icon will not show up in iTunes on the computer unless other computers are online and sharing is turned on.
Are you not able to access your iTunes on your computer from other devices?
I have Home Sharing turned on and this is what the sidebar looks like on all my computers in iTunes.

  • Apple TV 2 home sharing

I have a Windows 7 64bit computer running iTunes 10.6 with home sharing enabled. I have three apple TV gen 2 running the 5.0 software update. All are on wired gigabit connections. Before the 5.0 update no issues with home sharing. After the 5.0 update I cannot stream more than 2-3 minutes of a movie before it locks up and drops the connections.
    Failure situations include:
    1) Audio will continue but video pauses on a still screen
         - If I start the movie from the beginning and try to fast forward it will lock up the video on a still image. Audio will play if I hit play.
    2) Home sharing drops out completely as if no computers are available
         - apple tv 2 kicks back to the home sharing icon on the home screen with no computers available
         - usually closing and reopening itunes will fix this, but occassionally have to reboot machine or apple tv 2.
Since the upgrade I have not been able to stream more than 3 minutes of any movie. Please help. I tried movie files that worked before the update and they all drop out now. Should not be a codec issue. Problem can be replicated on all three apple tv's in the house now that they are updated to 5.0.
When I updated to 5.0 and this issue occured I was on itunes 10.5. I thought the 10.6 would fix it, but the issue presists. Please help.

I have restarted everything multiple times. The internet connection is staying up on the computer.I found as a work around that I can airplay the movies from my computer to the ATV2 but all the controls must be done in itunes not on the ATV2 remote. Home sharing still will not work. I also reencoded my files at a lower bit rate. They were originally 440 kbps. I dropped the rate to 170 kb/s and it did not help the issue.
It is totally a software issue, but I am not sure if its itunes or apple tv. I believe its the ATV2 5.0 software as I have tried it with my Win 7 PC as well as a macbook pro running OSX. I have tried all three apple tv's and the issue is there on all and both computers.
