Apple TV & iTunes Match

Why am I unable to sign in to iTunes Match on Apple TV?

Actually iTunes Match has been better on my Apple TV than either of my iOS devices. Anything that gets added to the cloud gets updated immediately and sounds great through my Sony speakers. Have you updated the software to 4.4.3?

• Apple TV, iTunes match and multiple apple IDs

My husband and I recently got Apple TV and also converted from MobileMe to iCloud. We each have our own unique Apple IDs that we each use to purchase from iTunes. We also set up a shared Apple ID to create Home Sharing so that we could access our music libraries in Apple TV (so three separate, unique Apple IDs). And we each signed up for iTunes Match, but on our individual Apple IDs (not the shared Apple ID). Now I'm trying to turn on iTunes Match in Apple TV and am running into an issue. It seems that since Apple TV is set up with the shared Apple ID (so that we can access things via Home Sharing and also charge purchases on Apple TV to the joint account), we may not be able to turn on iTunes Match in Apple TV because that shared Apple ID hasn't turned on iTunes Match.
My question is: should we spend an additional $25 to turn on iTunes Match on the shared Apple ID and will doing so prevent us from accessing iTunes Match on one of our individual IDs on our laptop (which is how I personally acces iTunes and sync all my devices - iPhone, iPad, etc. - my husband does his syncing on his work computer) - due to the 90 day error message? I'm trying to figure out the best, most practical approach for accessing all of our music and other iTunes downloaded content as well as photos, etc. and I'm struggling a bit here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Have you tried the simple signout and try to sign back in with the other username and password? You may need to reduce the number of device sharing on the account you wish to access , I believe there are limits look at apple.com

• Playlists on Apple TV / iTunes Match

Sorry I posted on match forum but it might be more relevant here
Am getting quite frustrated. My recently added is fine on iTunes on the computer but via match on my Apple TV it's not showing recent added songs. It's like the playlist stopped updating as any songs added in last 10 days are not showing on the playlist. They are showing in the main library on my Apple TV so it's just the playlist. I created a similar smart playlist called recently purchased with similar rules, only diff is songs must of been purchased and this is behaving exactly the same in that any songs added last ten days are not on it. Sonething is working because I changed the rule to must if been added in last thirty days and it updated Apple TV playlist in as much as it then displayed a lot more songs in recently added going back that far but still none if the very recent ones in last ten days
Why is it not mirroring itunes and updating - any else see the same?

Update
I tried the Apple TV in my second house. Same problem.
Apple: wake up!
We should perhaps gather some facts.
I have 31 playlists; two of them are doubled by sync issues.
I also have 43 intelligent playlist whereof 5 of them are doubled ones with the number "1" added to the name.

• Itunes match replacing Apple Lossless Files with .AAC

I have coverted my entire music library to apple lossless.. it appears that iTunes Match over time downgrades my music files to 256kbp .AAC files.
Is anyone else seeing this? How can I get iTunes Match to STOP doing this?

Michael Allbritton wrote:
iTunes Match does not touch the files on your computer. These files will be "downgraded" only if you delete the original file and download the matched track. The service does not upload ALAC files to the cloud. It converts the ALAC to a temporary AAC file, which is uploaded to listen to on iOS devices. On your computer, the ALAC files stay ALAC.
Hmm, that's interesting because on Apple's iTunes Match page it says (my emphasis):
Which music formats can iTunes Match handle?
You can match or upload music formats that can be played with iTunes. That includes AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, and more.
which clearly suggets that it will upload ALAC to iCloud

• ITunes Match crashes when loading playlists on Apple TV

After the update to OS 6.1.0 on my 2nd gen Apple TV, iTunes Match won't load any playlists. When attempting to load, the device crashes and drops me back to the home screen. This ONLY happens with playlists. All other attempts to play back music works fine.
I have reset the device and installed the latest update. All other devices can play playlists from iTunes Match.

• I tried to set up two users on one computer, now I can't make iTunes match work for either.

Lots of people seem to be having multiples user problems on iTunes, but I can't find a solution to mine so please help.
I got a new iMac. Switched it on. Connected to iTunes Match - all fine and dandy.
After a couple of weeks I decided I should follow Apple's advice and set up a separate user account on the imac for my wife. I connected to iTunes match using her user name and down loaded a bunch of her favourite music.
Naive fool that I was, I didn't realise I had fallen into Apple's moronic multi-user trap. Only one user on one computer can use it???? Why???
I thought that it was me being stupid so I switched everything off - including iTunes Match. Now nothing works.
If I log on with my iTunes ID and try to switch on iTunes Match it asks me if I want to add this computer, and then gives me the "This computer is already associated with an Apple ID - you can't use it for 90 days" message.
If I use my wife's iTunes ID, it asks her if she would like to subscribe for £21.99 a year.
The exact same thing happens whether I sign into the computer itself with my account or hers.
This is awe inspringly annoying. Please tell me how to fix this.
thanks.

At this time there is no "solution." You'll simply have to wait the 90 days to re-enable iTunes Match.
For now here is my suggestion. In your User Account, in OS X, sign out of whatever iTunes Store account you are signed in with. Then sign in with your store account and leave it at that. Now sign out of your OS X User Account, sign into your wife's OS X User Account and sign into the iTunes Store with her Apple ID (if necessary sign out of the account first).
Now, you can go back to your OS X User Account and attempt to enable iTunes Match. You will probably get the "wait 90 days" message. If so leave it, mark your calendar, and wait for the 90 days to expire. You can try contacting iTunes Store support at <https://expresslane.apple.com> if you wish, but I really do not know how useful that will be.
Incidentally, you get the message to pay for the service when trying to enable it on your wife's Apple ID because the service has not been purchased using that Apple ID. iTunes Match is designed to be a single-user service that is never signed out of and is associated with one, and only one, Apple ID and a regional store.

• Can't access iTunes Match - says "expired"

Yesterday I received the below email from iTunes Match, basically telling me there was a "problem" that prevented automatic renewal of my iTunes Match account. Since I have 6000+ cut up there, this concerned me. I went to my iTunes account page and re-entered my card information - as far as I know there is nothing wrong with the card ... we use it all the time. Here's the bvogus email:
Dear MICHAEL,
There was a problem with your payment type that prevented the automatic renewal of your subscription to iTunes Match. To renew your subscription and to regain the ability to store your entire music collection on iCloud and enjoy it on your iOS devices, iTunes, and Apple TV, you will need to update your payment information. iTunes Match stores not only your songs purchased on the iTunes Store, but all of the other great music you have acquired over the years, including music from CDs.
To update your payment information or manage your subscription, sign in to iTunes on your computer and go to your Account Information page. Your matched and uploaded tracks will be removed from iCloud in 90 days, so renew your subscription now and keep all of your music in the cloud so you can listen to it anytime, anywhere.
Regards,
The iTunes Store team
So, I try listening to some music today and all the iTunbes app on my iPhone 4 (iOS 6.0.1) does is spin around from one song title to another. Tonight I get a new email from iTunes Match that says the following:
Dear MICHAEL,
Store all your music in the cloud and listen to it anytime, anywhere.
Renew your iTunes Match subscription so you can continue to enjoy your entire music collection in iCloud on your iOS devices, iTunes, and Apple TV. iTunes Match stores not only your songs purchased on the iTunes Store, but all of the other great music you have acquired over the years, including music from CDs.
Your subscription for iTunes Match expired on 11/16/12. Your complete music collection and playlists in iCloud are no longer available from your iOS devices, iTunes, or Apple TV. You will still be able to download from iCloud any music you previously purchased on iTunes from the Purchased area of the iTunes Store. You can also sync your music to your iOS devices using iTunes for Mac+PC. To renew your subscription now, open iTunes on your Mac or PC and choose Turn on iTunes Match from the Store menu.
Regards,
The iTunes Store team
Now what do I do? There's nothing wrong with my card and iTunes says I'll lose all the songs I ripped from my CD collection if I don't pay up? HOW?? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO??
Thank god I had the foresight to pay Amazon for space and everything I uploaded to iTunes is also over there in Amazon's cloud service. At least THEY seem to know how to run a cloud service. Seems like ever since Steve passed it's just one thing after another with these clowns.
Please help!

Just got this -
Dear iTunes Customer,
You recently received an email informing you that your iTunes Match Subscription could not be auto-renewed. We have resolved the problem and your iTunes Match Subscription has been renewed.
We apologize for the delay with your auto-renewal. If you have any questions, please contact AppleCare at http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
I hope everyone else is all set too.

• One iMac, two OSX-accounts and one iTunes Match, how do I get it to work?

I have one iMac to work with and two different User-Accounts for my daily business. I use iTunes-Match and I would like to use it on every User-Account. On the forst Account I already acitvated iTunes-Match succesfully. But on my second User-Account it refuses to work. If I start-up Match in iTunes it compares the files (at least iTunes tells me so) and after that I am back at the beginning, where I shall click "start".
Something doesn´t really work here. Is it because it is impossible to use multiple User-Accounts on a Mac with the same iTunes-ID and iTunes Match? I am not talking about different iTunes-Accounts! I am talking about the same iTunes-Match-Account on two different User-Accounts of Mac OSX

There we go...
On the first user-account iTunes Match is working fine. No problems on that.
What I did on the second User Account:
1. I logg on to the second user account
2. starting iTunes
3. selcting iTunes Match and then "activate"
4. after I enter the corresponding Apple-ID, iTunes Match starts to compare the lokaly saved music with iTunes Match which takes about 10-15mins (Step 1 through Step 3)
5. after that, it shows me the button "finished"
so far so good
If I press the button "Finished" it jumps back to the initial Screen, where it starts over with Step 1
That loop never stops.
So there is something not quite working at all.
Is that better to understand? I don´t think, that screenshots will help at all, as there is now difference to the coorect messages. There are no error messages

if you use iTunes match in order to create space and remove music from your hard drive, does that happen automatically when you subscribe and upload your music or is there another step to remove the music from your hard drive once you've uploaded to iTunes match?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself.

• HT4914 I have made a mess of my music library in ITunes, will ITunes Match help?

I have many songs not labelled correctly or recorded using less than great quality in my Itunes library. I'm wanting to know if I sign up for ITunes Match, how do I get the enhanced, properly labeled library loaded back into my Itunes once it has been in the cloud and presumably been replaced by the high quality of the Apple library versions with all the proper labelling? In other words, the versions in my ITunes are substandard, if I get ITunes Match will the versions in my computer's Itunes be converted to the better version and if not how can I accomplish that? Or does the better version only work when streaming from the cloud?
I went into an Apple store and no one there could figure out the answer to this. They thought I might have to delete my entire library from my computer then restore from the cloud but no one was sure. Is there a conclusive answer on the way to do this? If it will work, it would be worth it to me to get the ITunes Match just to clean up my library.

Michael,
If the CDs were ripped a few years ago using a space-economical setting, then chances are that 256 will indeed be an upgrade.
After you upgrade a few songs as onesie-twosies, and have verified that you are comfortable with the results, you can start doing larger batches. But I certainly do not endorse any advice that begins like "Step 1: delete your entire library"!
Also, make sure to make a backup before you begin, so if anything goes amiss, you can retrieve your current copy. Here is the official guidance from Apple Legal:
"iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk."

• ITunes Match is saying it is expired???

What is going on with iTunes Match. I bought a 1 year subscription on 12/9/11 and today while I am out of town and heading home tommorow my iTunes Match tells me it is expired and I have lost all my music. It shouldn't be expired and is set to auto renew. What's the deal apple?

I followed that link and don't see anywhere to raise this particular problem about their automatic renewal debacle. It's not helpful. There's nothing wrong with my card (used it five times just today).
Here's the email I got tonight from Apple - note the part about my complete music collection no longer being available.

I'm going in to the Genius Bar and rant tomorrow morning. This is worse than the kind of antics I used to put up with MobileMe.

• ITunes Match In Israel

Hello,
I was wondering why I can't subscribe to iTunes match in Israel? It says my country/region isn't supported yet Israel shows up on apple's iTunes match supported country list.
Thank you for your help,
Daniel

According to this article, it isn’t. iTunes in the Cloud isn’t the same as iTunes Match.

• New feature in iOS 6.1 + iTunes Match + Car systems

I'm happy to see some great new features with iOS6.1 with iTunes Match when connected to my Audi MMI (music system).
Previously if you were a subscriber to Apple's iTunes Match offering, you were able to only see the music tracks that you had manually downloaded to your connected device - all the tracks that were available in the cloud (but not downloaded) were not visible via the Audi MMI.
With iOS 6.1, the MMI now displays ALL tracks in the cloud and you are able to select and play any of them via the MMI. This is a very welcome addition because now, you have your entire music library accessible while you drive.
Another surprising addition, is that you can also browse the tracks ON your device (which was previously blocked with an 'Accessory Connected' blocking screen.
This is a great new feature of iOS that makes an iPhone even more appealing when connected to your car system.
This most likely will work with the connected car systems in VW, BMW and other car manufactuerers. Please weigh in if you have a different car and you see this new feature.

It could be. I know that Last.fm recently released an iOS app that allowed you to play all your iTunes Match music from their app and it would scrobble the plays to thier service.
My Audi reads my iTunes Match library and will stream any song thru the car system. I'm sure since Sonos can see what's on an iDevice locally and play that music, and Last.fm can see all iTunes match music that Sonos should be able to read the larger library and stream whats requested to play - only time will tell.

• TS4124 iTunes Match storage?

I have an iPad 3 & iPhone 4S. I have iTunes Match w/ about 1500 songs. I am still having storage issues where my iPad states that I am using 6.5GB of my 16GB storage for music. I thought w/ Match it stored everything on the cloud not on the device? I've been trying to update apps but its saying I don't have enough storage and that's how I saw how much my music is taking up. Any way I can fix this?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes match does keep all your content in the cloud, but you need to download it to a device to play it. If after playing something you don't want it on your device anymore, delete it by swiping.

• ITunes Match Uploads Keep Stopping

Looks like a couple of peole have posted on this, but I haven't seen any advice yet. My Step 3 - Uploading Artwork and Remaining Songs - keeps stopping. I get maybe 5-10 items uploaded, then the progress stops. Still get the progress wheel spinning, etc, but no more items get uploaded. I've started and stopped the process multiple times, restarted my computer, etc. Saw one recommendation suggesting that there might be an odd track that hangs up the system. That doesn't seem to be my case - I get about a dozen items uploaded, then the progress stops. I Stop and Start, then get a few more uploaded.
Very frustrating and disappointing. Really seems like Apple rolled iTunes Match out before things were ready.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very exicted about the iTunes Match service and think it is a fantastic idea! I just wish more of the bugs and issues would have been ironed out before release. I am a huge Apple fan and user because, normally, everything 'Just Works'.
I understand about bandwidth limitations - again, my problems stem from having to start and stop the upload process dozens of times because the process would stop/hang up, despite my rebooting, Option-Clicking, etc. My iTunes library isn't large - just under 10,000 songs. After matching, I had to upload approximately 1700 songs. I limited or turned off all other internet/wireless activity while uploading.
The purpose of my posting about this issue is 1) to hopefully find a fix, and 2) to give Apple some feedback about what is going on with iTunes Match.
By the way, I finally completed my upload. Now that my library is uploaded, hopefully adding additional CDs/tracks here and there won't be much of a problem. And I'm really looking forward to using this!
I've seen this mentioned on other tthreads, but I don't want a refund - just wish Apple would have ironed things out a bit better before releasing. Someone mentioned that iTunes Match is still considered in Beta - I don't recall reading that anywhere, and hope that is not true. What has distinguished Apple from the rest of the pack is that they've had the discipline to hold off on releasing products and services until they were working smoothly, and not using their customer base as an extended testing phase. Just hoping this experience was just an anomoly, and not an indication of things to come.
