Apple TV / Itunes Sync Bug

I am having a lot of problems with my Apple TV, some videos are uploaded correctly and other, almost new ones show a message error: THE SELECTED VIDEO COULD NOT BE PLAYED. THE FORMAT WAS NOT RECOGNIZED.
Also when y try to sync Itunes version 7.3.2 crashes.
To solve this issue I have to install an older version of itunes, I have found version 7.2 in here: http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
Delete file itunes from applications and then install the old version.

Ramiro,
What is the source of the video you are having problems with ?
Schrosa
Have you tried the following:
1. Open itunes and select a troublesome tune/movie.
2. Choose file/show in Finder and note the location of the original file.
3. Delete the tune/movie from your itunes list (not in the finder) choose 'remove' and 'keep files' when prompted
4. Drag the original file from the Finder back to itunes.
Does this help

  • ITunes sync bug causes space on iPod/iPhone to be gradually lost over time

This topic pertains to iTunes for Windows version 10.1.1 and most likely all prior versions. At the time of this writing 10.1.1 is the latest version.
I have clearly identified a bug with the procedure iTunes uses specifically to copy Music over to the iPod and iPhone units. A detailed description with steps to reproduce follows, but first the summary: Space is gradually wasted by iTunes erroneously copying certain tracks twice! The 2nd copy is not recorded in the itunesDB file, and space wasted on these duplicate tracks is counted under "Other" in the iTunes capacity screen. It is impossible to ever retrieve this space from the portable device without doing a factory restore on the Summary screen, which of course will also wipe out all your Apps, Videos, Photos, Music, etc at the same time. Hardly an ideal workaround!!
    Details:
When several tracks are to be copied to the portable device; either an iPod or an iPhone, and I have successfully reproduced this on both an iPod nano 5th Generation and an iPhone 4, sometimes a track is accidentally copied twice while, one of the selected tracks isn't copied at all. The user will notice when this occurs, that during their sync, one of their songs just seems to be missing. Syncing again will then copy the track which was missed during the last sync, but unfortunately, the 2nd copy of the track that was erroneously duplicated remains. The track which is duplicated appears in the hidden folder on your iPod file system as both the AAAA.mp3 filename structure and the <track name>.mp3 file name. Oddly enough, when this bug occurs, the itunesDB does not associate to the AAAA.mp3 like it normally would, but to the <track name>.mp3 and the AAAA.mp3 file is just wasted space on your device which cannot be recovered without manually deleting this file (a task which is impossible on an iPhone without hacking the device).
It is easy to reproduce this. This is very obvious if you start with an empty, new iPod. Sync a bunch of tracks to your iPod (the more the better), in fact this cannot happen if you only sync 1 track at a time, then check to see if the number of tracks is equal to the number of tracks that should be there. i.e. did the sync seem to just miss 1 or 2 tracks?
Make sure "Enable disk mode" is checked for your device, and browse to (Drive Letter):\iPod_Control\Music\ and you will eventually find that exact number of files which have actual track names instead of the standard AAAA.mp3 type filename. Next, in iTunes, remove ALL songs and any other forms of audio (such as podcasts), from the device. Your music folder techincally should now be empty, but as you browse through the hidden Music folder in the device, you will stumble upon a couple of files that remain. These are the orphaned files I've been talking about.
    The effect:
Over time, with repeated additions and removal of songs from one's device, these files accumulate. The iPod owner, none the wiser, will start to wonder why "Other" in the iTunes capacity display is continuing to grow. I was highly suspicious after cleaning out my iPod entirely, that "Other" was still showing 1.6GB!! I browsed through the filesystem wondering why which led me to discover tons of various music files in the music folder which shouldn't have been there (after all, iTunes shows no music stored on this device).
    The Fix:
Some sort of bug is causing this erroneous duplicate copy to be generated, and then the database to actually reference the erroneous copy instead of the AAAA.mp3 copy. One workaround iTunes could actually build in some sort of enumeration function that scans all of it's internal F## folders in the Music folder looking for these orphaned files, and simply erase them if they are not contained in the itunesDB. Pushing out this type of behavior into a new iTunes release would also fix the problem for all the people who've already racked up GBs of wasted space as that space would suddenly become available again for apps, tracks, and other files.

Two steps forward - one step back.
Thanks to insight from others here I enabled disk use and went to [drive letter]/iPod/control/music
There I saw a long list of folders called F00, F01, F02 etc.
In my case there were 49 of them with roughly 400 files in each folder.
The bulk of the files were named ABCD.mp4 down to ZYXW.mp4.
In each of the fifty folders were, as predicted above, a handful of song files labeled as such - ie borntorun.mp3 or iseered.mp4
I opened each and every one of the folders, deleted the files with real names and synced the pod.
On my 120 GB the yellow "other" fell dramatically, down to under 1 GB. Which is under 1% of the total. Not great but acceptable.
    So far, so good.
Now that I had fresh space I set about adding new songs to the pod.
Imagine my disappointment when I rechecked the F00 to F49 folders and saw that song name files had crept back in. Not as many, and I was able to delete them quickly and keep "other" under 1 GB. But still. It's like having crab grass or rodents.
Is there any hint that iTunes might address the underlying cause?
In the gripping process of deleting four or five files from each folder I noted that some specific files came up again and again. Just for laughs I'm going to delete and re-add those songs in case that helps.

  • How do I fix Apple TV/iTunes Sync issue (port 3689)

I am having a port 3689 issue, I looked through all the other topics on it here, seems common, I only just bought my Apple TV unit and thinking about returning it, the guy from Apple support tried his best but still no fix.
iTunes says port 3689 is blocked, I have tried the following to rectify
    1) Opened up port 3689 and 5353 on the modem
    2) connected the Apple TV box directly to the Netcomm modem avoiding the wireless network
    3) Called apple for assistance
    4) disabled my firewall completely
    5) re-instated the firewall and opened up ports in the firewall itself as a rule
After all this still says it's blocked.
    Any other ideas?
    Please help

I had the same problem. I tuned off the firewall, rebooted computer, unplugged the router and turned off AppleTV, then I turned them all back on.
    Then it works fine.
If I do all that but leave the firewall on, AppleTV syncs correctly the first time iTunes is loaded. After that I get the error and need to either turn off iTunes or simply reboot the computer and the sync goes back to working (again, first time only).
While it it definitely seems like a firewall issue, it seems to be a problem within iTunes/AppleTV and I doubt there is a way it can be fixed permanently by managing the ports (i.e. wait for the next update for the real fix).

  • Is this an iTunes sync bug?

I have an iPhone5 running iOS6.1 with iTunes 11.0.1.12 running on a Windows 7 PC.  Here's the scenario:  I have all my books sync'd up properly between my phone and iTunes.  If I use my phone to download a book I previously purchased (the book icon has the little iCloud symbol on it), it looks like the linkage is broken.  Meaning, deleting or downloading the book on my phone is no longer relected in iTunes and vice versa - checking or unchecking the book in iTunes for sync'ing doesn't result in anything happening on my phone.
Is this a bug, or intentional?  If intentional, what's the reasoning?  Since I would think most of what you do is done through your phone rather than iTunes, it seems this just results in the two getting out of sync.

Yes it is iTunes used to transfer purchases from the device as part of syncing.
The workaround is from the top menu (Ctrl B to turn it on in Windows)
File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from this phone

  • Is the Apple TV - iTune sync problem with Windows VISTA resolved yet?

I just bought Apple TV yesterday. Tried syncing with Vista Desktop. In exactly 2 minutes, ATV disappears, with few content synced up. Tried with XP laptop and it works. I see lot of discussion on this topic, but is there any real solution, other than returning it back?

This same exact thing is happening to me when I changed computers.
I had it working fine from my desktop, but I recently switched to a laptop and I now get the same sync issues.
I even restored my ATV to factory settings!
    What gives?

  • IPod,  iTunes Syncing on Leopard + Apple Wired Keyboard = Hang and problems

Sorry for the cryptic topic title but I search liked crazy and through several different sites I managed to hobble together a configuration that reproduces my problem. Maybe those terms will helps others...
Anyway, I have Mac Pro with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a 5G video iPod. Just recently during iTunes syncing it began to randomly hang quite early on in the process. No itunes is still responsive but it just stays on the same song forever, never making any progress. I did restore, auto vs. manual, disk space enable/disable every combination of iTunes and iPod settings I could try.
The crazy part is that I HAVE fixed the problem but I wanted Apple and others to know what to do and that is needs to be fixed correctly
Recently (same time iTunes started failing) I got the new Apple wired keyboard (love it!) but it IS the problem (or rather the combination of stuff). If I just unplug that keyboard during the iTunes sync it works every time, plug it back in and it hangs again next time iTunes syncs.
So maybe someone else is having this problem, I hope you find this forum and I hope Apple already knows about this glitch.
    Thanks!

I'm only going to tackle one of your issues; that of "recently added" playlists being whacked out when added to iPhones/iPods.
Here's the issue: You set up a smart playlist with a "recently added" criterion. The playlist looks fine in iTunes, and it displays all the recent music you've added to your library properly.
You then sync to your iPhone, and low and behold, all the tracks in that playlist do not match anything that had shown in iTunes. Believe it or not, this is a really old iTune bug. If memory serves me, it goes back to iTunes 6 or maybe earlier.
There are two known work arounds:
    1) you turn off "live updating." This is very poor work around, because most people use a recently added playlist to automagically add their newest music to their device. Turning live updating off defeats the point.
2)create a second smart playlist that points to the first one. What I mean is, if you have a playlist called "Newest 250 tracks" and that is the smart playlist that shows up incorrectly on your iphone, then set up a second smart playlist called "Newest 250 tracks iPhone" and the only criterion in it, is that is populates from playlist "Newest 250 tracks." It will then look identical to your first playlist, but because it doesn't contain a "recently added" criterion in itself, it will avoid the bug. So sync to that second tiered playlist, and all is well.
Yes it's stupid to have to make a second "meta" playlist for every recently added playlist, but c'est la vie.

  • When I updated to ios 5 I was forced to create a new Apple ID. Now my iTunes sync does not work properly.  Why did it do this and is there a way to fix it?

I already had an iTunes account when I pushed the iPhone.  After upgrading the OS to 5.0.1, I kept receiving an error message saying that my AppleID was invalid, even though it worked perfectly within iTunes on my PC.  It seemed to want my email address as my "new" AppleID so I entered that, but it created a second ID. It seems my cloud account and the "phone" iTunes is attached to the newer ID and my "PC" iTunes account is attached to the older ID.
Now, when I try to sync iTunes, I don't see all of the songs I purchased, some sync and others appear to sync but are grayed out with the sync icon next to the title. The songs are still on my phone, but not in my iTunes library.
Is there any way to fix this and consolidate the accounts? Also, why did the upgrade force me to create a new AppleID? I haven't upgraded to the 4 or 5 phone because I'm afraid this is going to happen again and I'll have a third AppleID to contend with.
    Thanks!!

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's.  Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

just started a new apple tv and also started using an iMac . I have itunes on the iMac but i cant get the apple tv to sync or find any settings to do so ! How can I get the iMac and apple tv to sync the itunes ? i have a internet connection between them , I have signed in to the itunes store on the apple tv and it shows that the apple tv is sharing my library from the IMac , but it wont sync and the apple tv has no content !

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV (with the exception of the Apple TV 1) does not sync, it streams everything from your library on your computer or from the internet.

  • How can I sync my IPOD Nano 4 to iTunes on my PC? I've already tried the sync button on iTunes and it says it is synced. I've also tried the 5 steps recommended by Apple to fix sync problems with no luck.

How is your iPod configured to sync content from your iTunes library? Any error messages during the sync process?
You may want to reset warnings on the device by right->clicking on it under Devices and choosing Reset Warnings.  Then resync the iPod to see if any alerts appear.
Is this the same computer you normally sync the Nano with?

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • Like many others, I got the new iPad 3 and couldn't sync all of my photos.  The best i got was 1,000 out of 15,000 to work.  Today Apple released iTunes 10.6.1.7 and said the syncing issue was resolved.  I erased my ipod cache and hit sync.  Still locked.

Like many others, I got my new IPad 3 and could not sync all of my photos.  The highest I got was 1,000 out of 15,000.  Today Apple released iTunes 10.6.1.7 that , among other things, said it fixed the sync issue with photos.  I excitedly, erased my ipod cache and hit sync.  It looked like it was working, but just like before iTunes locked.  This time at 2,244 of 15,000.  Anybody have an idea of how to fix this?

What's the capacity of your iPad?
iTunes needs up to 3x of the actual size of the files you want to sync during the sync process. And syncing 15.000 photos could cross the size of the available free space on your device.
Don't forget that the pictures are now optimized for the retina display, so the size increases for each of them.

  • PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAVERICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPENDED ON APPLE’S CLOUD. It removes the ability to sync Calendar, Notepad, and Contacts between your apple devices. You then can only sync them via Apple’s Cloud. For those of you like me, that do not want to be depended on an external data base accessible via the Internet or Cel Phone (with data charges).
Why do I not want to use the Cloud to sync and backup?
    1. I found I only have one device with me at a time or am sitting at a computer when I add to my calendar, make a note, or add/change a Contact. Syncing with iTunes while upgrading apps and doing a back up to two external hard drives worked great and met my needs.
    2. I use WiFi and pay for the minimum data plan with my Cel provider (AT&T). I do not want to pay higher monthly data fees.
    3. I do not like a central data base (that will be hacked someday) having the personal info I have in my Notes, Schedule, and Contacts.
    4. I like the security of my most important data being on my own hard drives and written off to Data DVD’s, not subject to even rare central system outages/failures.
    5. I do not like the prospect of becoming dependent on a Cloud in which the provider could decide at any time to either start selling information or charging monthly fees to recover the costs of providing the cloud.
I am reluctant to go to the trouble to go back to 10.8 because Apple will eventual stop providing updates to 10.8 and 10.8 compatible applications.
PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

You will need to contact Apple through their feedfack channel. These are user to user forums, sorry.
