Apple TV/iTunes- Two questions

Question #1: I have made some updates on meta-data within itunes but the changes don't appear to show up in my Apple TV - this is even after iTunes and computer have been shut down - is there a way to make sure all changes are visible quickly? I do not sync anything to ATV hard-drive - I stream music and videos only.
Question #2: Might be more an a straight iTunes question but what the heck...."Soundtracks" - when I go to this genre under the Apple TV menu what comes uo next are the artist names - if I want just the Soundtrack title to appear - is it best to change the artist name to the name of the record? Is there a trick to this?

Hi Winston - please see below:
1. What changes have you made and how. Changes should show up on a secondary library as soon as you select 'shared movies' etc.
* Not sure I understand "secondary library" - I only stream so my entire library is in one place. As far as changes, let's use Ratatouille as an example:
By default the following happens:
Artist: Michael Giacchino
Album: Ratatouille
Album Artist: "blank"
The above gets filed under "M" for the artist but if you go to "Soundtracks" as a genre - the artist is what appears (or as I've been tinkering the Album Artist" if that is filled in. So......let's go to #2:
2. Displaying a genre by artist would be the expected behaviour on the tv, so if you want the track title to display, I guess you would have to change the artist field to show the track title, although I'm not sure this wouldn't adversely affect the way these files are displayed in other lists.
** Yes - it does adversely affect the display but I've come across a possible solution but have encountered a brand new problem:
New solution:
Artist: Michael Giacchino
Album Artist: Ratatouille
Album: Ratatouille
So, based on this, on ATV I click Genre - Soundtrack and under "R" is Ratatouille - except it won't actually play - it acts like it is locked - if I scroll up of down and click play on another track/album, no problem. Any thoughts or can anyone else try this out and tell me if they have the same issue? Thanks.
Steve

  • Two Questions (Disk Format, and iTunes Backups)

Hi all, I am switching from PC to Mac soon and plan to use a 1TB External as a backup disk with Time Machine. I have two questions however:
1.) I know when I buy my external I will need to reformat it for Mac. I managed to find from one Apple Support article that I should use a GUID Partition scheme since I will be using the new macbook pro which is intel based. HOWEVER, I am hearing different things on formats. Apple says the most common format for TM is "Mac OS Extended", but it says it also supports things like "Mac OS Extended (Case sensitive, Journaled)", and another source said it's best to use "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" As you can see, this is a bit confusing for me. Which format is best for my backup disk?
2.) I also hear it's easy for backup data to collect quickly, especially if you deal with lots of large files. I really want to backup my iTunes media and library, but I have about 55+gigs of content so far. Is it still best to use Time Machine to back this up or would you recommend to manually backup my iTunes library? (like make a second partition just for my iTunes backup)
Any advice anyone has on either of these topics would be much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Ok, so I know I'm going to use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but now it says Case Sensitive is better? While I hear not case sensitive is better?
I'm a bit confused, do I need to check what the internal drive is to make this decision?
Yes, although it's almost certainly not case-sensitive.
I read somewhere that Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (not case sensitive) is best for TM.
Usually. Case-sensitive is TM's default, though.
    Does it really matter?
    It may.
I'm only going to be using this one disk to back up my one drive.
Review the pink box in #5 again.
If your internal HD is case-sensitive, your backups must be the same. There's no choice.
If it's not, and you don't anticipate using any case-sensitive volumes (a few 3rd-party apps require it), then you're probably better off with case-ignorant: +Mac OS Extended (Journaled).+

    Hi Lrwill,
If the apps that are on your son's iPad were purchased under his Dad's Apple ID, then signing your Apple ID onto the iPad will not help you with updating those apps.
Also, if the iPad was sync'd with his Dad's iTunes library, then hooking it up to your computer/iTunes library, will require you to reset the iPad, and everything that was loaded under the other Library and Apple ID will be wiped out.
Can you provide a little more info about what was set up under which Apple ID and what iTunes library the iPad was sync'd with?
    Cheers,

you may have inadvertantly purchased it from a non us itunes store section of itunes. go to expresslane.apple.com to get a refund and if you want to rent it again, on your computer itunes screen, scroll all the way to the bottom, and make sure the country indicator at the bottom right has the usa flag

  • I have got two questions: 1. Can I use wireless Mouse with an I Pad?  2. Is there Nano-Technology in use in Apple / Mac - Computers, I Pads and or Phones?

    Thanks Roland

There actually is a type of "pointer" native to iOS. it's part of the AssistiveTouch feature,  used to replicate multitouch gestures with one finger. You just can't control it with a mouse.
Anyway, as far as I can discern the iPad does not use nanotechnology in any part of its construction.

  • One LapTop One iTunes & Two iPhone & Two Apple ID

One LapTop One iTunes & Two iPhone & Two Apple ID
    1.
I like to start from the begining. Empty iPhones & empty iTunes. Reset all.
How do I restet all My iPhones and iTunes. And make empty even My iTunes account?
    2.
I like to have two tottaly different iPhone set-up. Different applications and
different music, and different contacts. (I have two account!)
    Info:
1 ID: ChristianPaprika (iPhone purcased in Amsterdam, The Netherlands use with
Apple Gift Card) iPhone name: ChristianPaprika
2 ID: PaprikaChristian (iPhone purcased in Budapest, Hungary use with credit card) iPhone name: PaprikaChristian

    Ejects the harddrive?
Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere.  Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

  • I have two questions. Are unlocked iPhone 5 available in apple stores in US? Can i use a factory unlocked iPhone 5 (GSM) anywhere outside united states?

I have two questions. Are unlocked iphone 5 now available in Appple Stores in US? Can i use a factory unlocked iphone 5 (GSM) anywhere outside the United States?

The Apple (Republic of Ireland) online store has the unlocked Iphones 4, 4S and 5 for sale. They are dear but worth it. I ordered the unlocked I phone 5 last week. That said, retail Apple Stores do and will not carry the Iphone line instore. They do however sell some accessories for all Iphones but thats as far as the Irish retail stores go.
Its obvious to me that the Apple sales strategy for the US is different to the Irish one, so your retail stores may carry the unlocked versions at some point in the future.
Sorry I could not be of more help..

  • HT1386 Two questions Itunes Movies and Syncing

I have two questions. I had been using a different computer and had several movies saved from those ones you get free with purchasing a DVD/Blue Ray. When I try to look at these movies it tells me it will cost me money to download again? Doesn't Itunes remember the movies I already downloaded to my account???
Second when I try and sync my phone to the computer this being the new computer I look at the aps to sync them and the photo has a different looking setup and all my aps are not in the same location as the ones on my actual phone. I have the 4s phone and carefully tried to place each AP in the correct place on the computer but then the next time I connected and looked to snyc with new items I downloaded to my phone it uplads the new aps fine but the same messed up screen shows up. It tells me I can lose aps on my phone ( i know they are saved on the computer) when I sync but what the ****! This NEVER used to be a problem on my old computer I even set it up so I am not connected with any other computers just this one.

  • ITunes Match on Apple TV with two accounts

    Hi all!
I have an Apple TV with two itunes accounts. One of them has the iTunes Match associated and I have sucessfully activated it in the Apple TV.
The problem is that every time we change the account I have to reconfigure iTunes Match again and it takes too long. Is this how it works or I am missing something? If it works this way it is not usefull for me at all .
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
Itunes match only works with one account and cannot be used with any other Apple ID.
