Apple TV keeps freezing.

For the last few weeks I have had to keep restarting my Apple TV. I find it freezes, quite often, when trying to enter the "My TV Shows" page. It'll freeze on a black screen and just stay there until I eventually kill the power and restart it. I then the blinking orange light for a few minutes before it reboots. But it'll happen a few times in a row until I eventually give up and watch a movie.
I currently have no internet connection, so I can't do a factory restore, and before I lost the connection I filled the hard drive it to capacity. Should I take some media off of it? Is it a bad idea to have the hard drive so full?
Either way though I was getting the freezing issues before I filled it up.
Anyone else experiencing freezing or have any suggestions?

You can do a factory restore without an internet connection, but you won't be able to sync stuff onto it unless you can connect to a computer on your local network, unless you don't currently have one.
You also potentially would not be able to add protected iTunes movies/music to the AppleTV without an internet connection, but you should be able to factory restore ans sync non-protected stuff.
AppleTV should be good enough at 'housekeeping tasks' so that a full drive won't affect performance.
Not sure I know what you mean by eventually giving up and watching a movie.
If connected via HDMI then I have a suspicion that AppleTV not being the selected HDMI input can affect it and make it unresponsive in some instances with some TVs, but it's not consistent behaviour.

  • Apple TV keeps freezing  and snow picture

    Guys
    Again I need your help.
My AppleTV keeps freezing and have white dots while displaying menu and playing the content.
When I try to restart it it shows the Apple logo and freezes while the dots keep appearing and flashing (think Matrix movie). It doesn't make any sound. I have unplugged the cable/ restart it (took ages), changed HDMI cable.
Nothing. My TV is new and never had that problem before, it happened after last upgrade.
    Any Ideas

I am also having this same issue. I tried both HDMI and Component connected directly to my TV. Cables are known good with my Bluray player.
I did a factory restore and it got to 1.0 software. I still had the snow effect and also freezing on the bootup movie. After a few attempts I was finally able to get through to the menu and upgrade the software the latest release, and it still had the snow effect on either HDMI or Component. It also froze in the menu system.
From that troubleshooting, I think it is hardware issue. I have left the apple TV unplugged since last night. when I get back home for the evening, I will check again and see if the long time of being unplugged will fix it. If not, time to take it to the Apple Store.
Had it for a little more then a year and it is already broken. Poor Poor quality, but that is what I get for getting the first gen.

  • Every time i watch a movie apple tv keeps freezing and I'm using 50meg connection via wifi

anyone know why this keeps happining its soooo anoying even if i watch a trailer it keeps buffering freezing im ov virgin max xxl large broadband 50 meg upload speed surely this should not keep happining i have the latest vers of apple tv installed etc

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Apple TV keeps Freezing Up I tunes, cant access anything on computer

This started about 2 weeks ago. I have 2 Apple TV and 2 Apple TV2 on a wired network. When I go to connect to the computer, I can see the list of the Movies, but not the picture Icons, all that is there is ADMIT ONE ticket. And I cant play anything. I can get to the internet and the store but not to my movies or music. Then go back to computer and I Tunes has the spinning color wheel and has to be forced quit. I re start, and can watch movies on the computer, but as soon as I try on the Apple TV, again lock out, and color circle wheel on computer.
    Out of ideas....need help.
Tried uninstalling I Tunes, and re installing but don't know how to do a full uninstall, everything comes back automatic.
    Thanks

  • HT1766 my apple ipad keeps freezing up. and siri guides everything

This is the second time my apple ipad has frozen. I tried rebooting but this isn't helping. I need help

If by "Siri guides everything" you mean that a voice speaks every action you do, then you probably have VoiceOver enabled.
See: Turning VoiceOver On or Off.

  • Why does my apple tv keep freezing.

Why do my rented films stop half way through then commencing loading and state this film will ready to play in 22 mins.
Why doesn't it just stream continuously ?

    it's the router
or cable modem which does it if it's an imcompatability or a setting in the router or
if it's your isp which toggle your internet speed when too much bandwidth is drawn is unclear
but it's not really related to your appletv

since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

My phone keeps freezing, the apple sign appears on the screen and then it freezes again and repeats itself.. has anyone had this before? if so, what is it? & it's also not letting me restore it from iTunes, it keeps coming up with error (9) or error (14).. help?

    Hi there Holly N,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

  • I have over 40 itunes purchases all all play back fine. But my last purchase Ip Man2 keeps freezing on play back and I know it"s not y PC, get no helpful response  from apple, what can I do to get a refund on that purchase or a better copy.

I have over 40 Itunes purchases and they all play back fine, But my last purchase Ip Man2 keeps freezing on play, I know it's not my PC because all my other itunes movies play fine, wasn't able to get a helpful response from APPLE, How can I get a refund on that purchase or a better copy.

I own the movies and I want them to stay in my iTunes library basically forever.
But in both cases the file name no longer shows in the movie list, so I don't know how to re-download it from the Cloud.
iTunes prefs > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
This will show all your iTunes purchases in your library with a cloud icon down arrow. Click the icon to redownload or click on Play to stream without downloading.
Also see this , -> Download past purchases
and techncially, you don't "own" the movie, You simply have a license to use it.
Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.
Actually, no it does not tell you that.
FYI: You should keep copies of all yoru iTnue spurahses as the labels/movie studios/copyright owners can pull their product at anytime and it won't be available to redownload.

You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.
Unless you've iPhone 4S (looks similar to iPhone 4)

Can't believe that I can't run music videos simultaneouslly on ipad. ust spent 2 days trying to do it. Downloaded 2 Apps but they just keep freezing. Come on Apple this must be easy to fix!

first then this is a user helping forum only users like you read or write here if you want apples ear
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
other then that it's unclear what you are trying to do or if it's 1 or 2 things
playing music videos simultaneously would imply you trying to play more then 1 at once, this is not something it support out of the box I'd say.
then there is the 2 apps, are you refearing to apps which should let play many music videos at once?
and do they freeze when you try to download them, or when you try to start them,
and maybe the name of the apps, in question would make it easier for people to help.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
