Apple TV keeps losing my Itunes library

I go to watch Apple TV and it says there is no library available when I try to access it.  The only solution is to unplug the Apple TV.  After that, works fine, but this keeps happending.  Clearly there's no network issue as I don't need to do anything to do with my router or my Imac.  I have the Apple TV hooked up by ethernet cable as well.  Any idea what's going on?

I have the exact same problem.
Can't figure out why, it will work fine with all other functions... but when I go to my library it says there is not one available.
Need help here too.

  • Laptop keeps losing entire itunes library

please help...moved entire library from xp desktop to an external hard drive, downloaded latest version of itunes from apple then copied library on to new vista laptop. all loads okay, ipod syncs okish but after syncing it then loses all my music, playlists etc... what have i done wrong? please reply in non techo speak as you can gather im not clued up with computers!!! allo advice welcome!!!

I use Windows XP, which is a little different to your Vista, but on your computer, if you look in *My Computer* you should see the "local disk: (C:)", and some other Disks, maybe D and E. When the iPod is plugged in, even if iTunes is handling it, it should appear as another "device with removable storage". It was that letter I meant. However...
I've just re-read your first post and I think I may have misunderstood you, so let's start again. In that post, you say
all loads okay, ipod syncs okish but after syncing it then loses all my music, playlists etc...
If it lost all the music after syncing, I would not call that an okay load or even an okayish sync.
Connect the iPod to your computer; let iTunes see it and perform a Sync. Do not disconnect it.
At the top of the iTunes Window, in the pale coloured box it should say *iPod sync is complete - OK to disconnect.* Don't! On the left hand side of your iTunes, click on the "iPod name" under Devices. Do you see the Summary screen? At the bottom of the Summary screen is the Capacity bar. How much audio is listed in GB and how much Other is listed?
Also, look in the iTunes Library, under Music. Do any (or all) of the songs have an exclamation mark to the left of the title?
So, Heathrow eh? Are you doing a Tom Hanks, living in the airport? I hope not, for your sake.

  • Apple TV keeps disconnecting from iTunes library-- all other features work no problem.  Any suggestions?

A few days ago our Apple TV kept stopping playing music after about 5-10 minutes, and we get the message to turn on home sharing, but it's already on.  Any ideas on what to do?

Hm, how do we determine that's really the problem?

Hi I have all my appletvs set to NEVER SLEEP - go to your appletv settings/general/sleep after and choose never sleep. Since doing that I have had no problem with them. Also I leave my 2010 macbook pro running itunes and permanently on and open - it is my main homesharing disk. I give it a sleep every now and then when not using appletv.
    Try that first anyway.

My iTunes won't open! It keeps saying 'The iTunes Library.itl is locked on a locked disk or you not have write permission for this file.' Please Help!

this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
    First Aid for external drive
    Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
    Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
    Close iTunes
    Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive)
    Reboot system, restart iTunes
If none of the above fixes your problem, post here.

  • Why my apple tv keeps crashing "your itunes is currently unavailable, please try again later"

why my apple tv keeps crashing "your itunes is currently unavailable, please try again later"

I Have this issue too except I can log into my sons Apple id and watch his shows.  I can AirPlay non-itunes content such as a tv show that has AirPlay but not my iTunes purchased items.  I have tried all the fixes as suggested even resetting and reinstalling. It is bizarre, why can I watch my sons shows, movies....?  I can see mine but they won't load. our family is not on family share. my son when he uses his own Apple tv in his home has no issue.  All other Apple devices are working fine and I can watch from iPhone, iPad etc, just not Apple tv.
very disappointed with Apple at the moment.  There updates, fixes and bugs are getting to be as bad as windows.  i am seriously thinking of going back to android.  Apples communication marketing people need to make a statement about this issue.  I won't be buying anymore movies etc Apple til you sort this out.

  • Why does Apple TV keep losing connection to home library?

My Apple TV keeps stopping every 4-5 minutes when playing my iTunes library from my shared home computer.  I have to keep refreshing iTunes from my computer to have Apple TV find my library again.  Can anyone tell me why this is happening?  I've checked firewall settings and the computer is not on standby...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • HT203175 I keep getting the Itunes library cannot be saved.  A folder was specified instead of a file.

I connected my ipad to my computor (Windows Home Premium 7) and Itunes would not open.  I have restored from a seperate back up however I tunes keeps throwing up the above in a window as an error.  I tried uninstalling itunes and re-installing and it still would not work.  Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on?
    Thanks

I've encountered this same problem on multiple occasions. Sometimes it will happen for days at a time, then stop for months, then start happening again without rhyme or reason.
This last bout has been the most severe, as my extensive library of movies (one one external HDD) and music (on another external HDD) wouldn't show up in iTunes. After reimporting and losing the library file again I started digging a bit deeper into solutions.
I'm a few hours (hopefully it will stick) and many changes into reconstructing a new iTunes library file after having found a useful solution:
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/73878/the-itunes-library-file-cannot-be -saved-a-folder-was-specified-instead-of-a-fi (I don't know if you saw the reply to your thread on stackexchange...)
I tried to choose my old .itl when prompted; it wasn't recognized. I then created a new library in a new folder (iTunes 1, as suggested) and repeated the "choose library" step. The new file was recognized. In the past I would change my media folder location in iTunes preferences depending on whether I was importing music or movies. I've decided to leave that at the default location, but have unchecked the copy to media folder option in preferences. I'm hopeful that manually managing where the media are stored and where iTunes looks for them will permanently solve the problem.
Take all of this with a grain of salt.... I hope it helps. Let me know if any of my steps are unclear or if you have any questions.

  • Is it possible for two apple IDs to share an iTunes library?

Me and my brother each have our own apple IDs. Is there anyway we can share an iTunes library for all the media available including apps and not be able to see each others emails and keep our own progress in games? The devices we use are iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

o I installed from our 10 server license pack.
Note that it's actually a 10 client license, not a 10 server license. As Templeton said, for each system on which you want to install the ARD administration application, you need to purchase a separate copy of ARD.
How do I get different serial numbers on each machine from the same license pack?
You don't. If you want to have the administrator application installed on two systems, you will need to purchase a second 10-client copy of ARD.

  • Can I use two apple tv's with one itunes library?

I have been looking for a way to store my DVD's on a hard drive and watch them via my Apple TV as they are taking up too much space on my shelves. My first thought was to buy a large external hard drive and rip the dvd's using Handbrake for my streaming to my Apple TV gen 3 but I remembered that I still have my original 160gig Apple TV gen 1 which pretty much works as a large iPod for movies when syncing content rather than streaming.
So my plan would be :
    1. Rip and add the dvd's to my iTunes library
    2. Manually sync the movie files to the Apple TV 1
    3. Delete the movies from iTunes to avoid using large amounts of computer hard drive space.. (this shouldn't interfere with the content on the Apple TV as syncing manually)
    4. Connect the Apple TV to my TV to watch movies.
Can I have both of my Apple TV's connected to my iTunes library?
Are there any con's to using the old 1st gen Apple TV in this manner? For instance, I know there is no HDMI connection and the processor is older and slower than the newer versions.
It would be a shame to not be able to put the 160gig of hard drive space on the older Apple TV to good use, especially as it still works perfectly.. and it was a refurb when I bought it!

We cannot comment on your plans to copy DVD's but I have a number of Apple TV 1's, 2's and 3's all working together without a problem.
On the idea of keeping your content on your Apple TV 1 and deleting it from iTunes, you may want to read my article on this topic.

  • I upgraded my computer from vista to windows 7, losing my itunes library in the process - how can I sync my current itunes with my ipod?

I upgraded my computer system from vista to windows 7 losing my authorized itunes in the process - I cannot sync my ipod now without losing everything on it.  Is there a solution for this?

At a guess you followed the process in HT1364 - iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder which would have moved the media folder to a new path of your choice. This process leaves the library database files back in the original location of <User's Music>\iTunes. Often people assume that all they need is now on the external drive and wipe the internal drive, or discard their old computer, before backing up the all important iTunes folder. If you have a backup of your user's profile folder from before the upgrade the iTunes library folder should be in there somewhere. Restore it to <User's Music> and your original library should pop back into existence. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter that it had previously.
A more effective way to relocate the library is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive, then hold down shift when starting iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. You would then choose the file iTunes Library.itl in the iTunes folder on the external drive. If this is the way you moved the library before then that is how you should now reconnect to it. Changing the media folder in preferences doesn't change which .itl database file is opened, nor does double-clicking on an .itl file directly.
If you no longer have the original .itl file then you will have to build a new library and import the media to it. If you need to do this I would recommend you create a new library at F:\iTunes, then move your existing media folders inside F:\iTunes\iTunes Media before importing. This will avoid the creation of duplicates and make sure the library is in the correct shape going forwards.
If you have an iPod or iOS device my scripts ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats may well let you recover ratings, play counts & playlists from the device.
When you've fixed up your libray you should consider getting a second external drive to backup to.
