Apple TV loses purchased content

My aTV has been losing purchased content - and this is the 2nd time that about five purchased movies (out of twenty) suddenly disappeared. While the ATV was paired with a laptop, I have not synced it for a few months as iTunes stopped showing the aTV... and I am sick of debugging this problem.
Last time it happened two months ago, the aTV support (they wanted me to pay for support first) passed me on the a secret iTunes support 800 number who agreed to let me re-download the content.
I have seen others mentioning similar problems. Does anybody understand what is going on and why has Apple been so bad in responding to the problems?

Sorry to reiterate what I aid in another post:
There are an increasing number of reports of this - I think there must be some recent bug to account for it, though it probably doe not affect most users.
Please send feedback here:

There were not many reports of this kind of thing until the last couple of months, so it suggests to me something has changed software wise eitherin AppleTV 2.3.1 or recent iTunes updates.

  • ITunes and Apple TV and purchased content

I have a new 2nd gen Apple TV.  To test things out, I bought a couple of TV shows via the Apple TV.  Should I see those shows in iTunes on my computer?
Conversely, if I have TV or Movie content on my computer that I bought via iTunes, should I see that on the atv under the Movies or TV Shows menus?  Right now, I see them only through home sharing and the Computers menu.
If "yes" is the answer to either of those questions, I'd like to know how to make it happen.  Everything else seems to work fine, including home sharing.
    Thanks in advance!

This issue affects AppleTV1 users since end of October.

Simplest soution seems to be to buy a free TV episode on AppleTV itself which somehow updates authorisation.
If it's a streaming only (My Shared library content on AppleTV) library simply go to AppleTV Computers, highlight the library and select and remove it.  Next add it back to itunes as a share/stream library (or top sync library if you don't have one) and again this should sort it out (did on mine).  If it's an existing sync library then removing/readding will work but will erase AppleTV content and require a complete resync.  Transfer AppleTV purchases first (right click on device in iTunes) just in case.

  • Need to Change E-mail address - will I lose purchased content?

    Hello:
I have just switched service providers and need to update the e-mail address tied to my adobe account which I have used to authorise both my eDoc purchases and my Sony Reader.
My fear is that in doing so, I will lose the ability to read all of my e-Docs authorised to my current e-mail account and I am also concerned about updating my Sony Reader to the new details.
I am concerned that Adobe has tied username for authorisation directly to e-mail, which is prone to changes when switching jobs or networks and have also been a bit dismayed to not find any details about updating e-mail account in Adobe's documentation - other than a warning that changing your e-mail affects your username and therefore your authorisations.
Can anyone please provide me with some help on how to switch my e-mail address and still be able to read purchased e-doc content and update my sony reader?
    Cheers,

Well that is certainly inconvenient.  I'm not sure the reason that you are unable to change your email address.  It might help to contact Spotify by filling out the contact form here:  https://www.spotify.com/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support/?contact .  They should be able to change your email address for you since you are unable to do so.  Be sure to give them both the old and the new address, as well as any other info they might need to locate your account.  Hopefully they can get your account fixed up for you quickly!

  • Apple TV rented/purchased content streaming slowly

    Hi All,
I apologize if this thread is out there, but I have looked all morning and can't seem to find a good answer or fix. I am running an apple TV off of a netgear wireless router with decent cable internet speeds. Things like airplay, playing content from itunes library work great. Netflix works pretty good too (although slower than when through my xbox)  The main thing is - renting or buying movies off of the apple tv (not through a computers itunes) is nightmareishly slow! Sometimes for SD movies it wants 4 hours to load. Is this the norm? if so it seriously limits the usefulness of the apple tv. For everything else it is pretty good, but this bug has got me considering a return. Does anyone have any suggestions or tweaks that I can do to keep me from returning this little black box? thanks a lot

941 Kbps is approximately 1 Mbps, it's reccomended that you have at least 6 Mbps for HD content and 2.5 Mbps for SD content.
Internet TV and netflix are slightly different, Internet TV is just poor quality/low datarates, netflix can vary it's quality according to your connection speed and can go as low as 0.5 Mbps (which is poor quality)
Unless you upgrade your Internet service there isn't much you can do about your download speeds, but downloading at those speeds to the Apple TV will be tedious as it will tie up the Apple TV until the download is complete. You might want to think about downloading to your computer in advance, it won't be much (if any faster) but it will be much more convenient.
Now I can remove my shades.

  • Changing apple id loses purchased app

I moved from one state to another. The Apple id I had on my iPad was associated with my old email.  I changed the Apple id to my new email.  When I tried to use a purchased app - Weber's On The Grill - it no longer would access the internet for updates.  It kept giving me a pop up window with my old email in it. I deleted the app thinking I could reinstall it.  When I went to the app store to get it again instead of saying Install it put up the price for the app.  I can no longer sign on to my old id and I can't get it again without buying the app again. Anyone suggest a way for me to do this.  Thanks.

So even though Apple suggested I change my Apple ID to my new email doing so lost all purchased apps. What if I create a new Apple ID using my old email address will I then be able to get my purchased apps back?
You cannot create a new AppleID with that old email address - for one thing, that email address is already assigned as an AppleID so cannot be used for a new one.  Second, you would never be able to verify such a new AppleID as you would not receive the email to do so.  Finally, simply because you started using a new AppleID has not made the old one disappear or become inactive.
You can always go and login to the manage section at https://appleid.apple.com/ and simply change the primary email address for that old AppleID to another email address you have that is still active and valid.  If you change information through the web site above, the account associated with that AppleID also changes, so your purchases track with the changes.  However, you cannot change the old AppleIDs primary email to your new one, as that email is already in use as an AppleID.  You will need to get another email to use (a free gmail, MS live or hotmail, yahoo, AOL/AIM or whatever service you wish) if you want to change that old AppleID's primary email address to one that actually receives mail.

  • Can iTunes share purchased content across Apple IDs within one household, OR

    QUESTION ONE
Will iTunes share purchased content using TWOApple IDs, across different devices within one household?
    QUESTION TWO
Should each device with a separate user have its own iCloud ID? CONCURRENTLY, should each device belonging to the SAME user use the SAME cloud ID?
    QUESTION THREE
I think I "can" use one Apple ID, and just usedifferent iCloud IDs for EACH device. Am I fundamentally wrong? Am I legallywrong?
    UNDERSTOOD FACTS:
    1)  Apple states, each person should have their own AppleID:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37
    2)  iCloud servicesare: mail, contacts, calendar etc...
    3)  iTunes servicesare: music, videos, Apps, etc...
You can sync iTunes across up to5 different computers using your Apple ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420, however there does not seem to be alimit of how many Apple devices youcan sync within using a single iTunes account (Apple ID). *NOTE: beware automaticsynchronization of new apps..
    4)  iTunesin the Cloud is a different animal altogether! This should allow sharing of all iTunes content across all “your” devices, aslong as it was purchased thru iTunes (If not, you need to shell out an additional $25/yr for iTunes Match)
SCENARIO:  I got a new iPhone, and am giving theold iPhone to my spouse. ALL iTunes content has been managed and purchased using oneApple ID that matches one iCloud ID. Ideally, just like anyother family using multiple Apple products and usingiCloud; we would like to SHARE songs & Apps, but NOT share calendars, mail etc...(sharing contacts would be nice).
    QUESTION FOUR
Under the above scenario, must I have a “.me email” account?
I have been reading threadsabout managing content across multiple devices, using different IDs, both AppleIDs and Cloud IDs, and there is a LOT of confusion. I'm visual, so I've attached the graphic illustrating how I "think" I should proceed.  **I have not set up the new iPhone yet.
We do not have a Mac or a".me email" account, and we use Gmail.
    Any help is appreciated!

I have the computer authorized to use the Apple ID content (been using iTunes since 2007).
My issue is I cannot create sperate iCloud IDs for each device. I get prompted/directed to create a new Apple ID, which is what I want to avoid. I want to use one "FAMILY" AppleID as it is, and use iCloud IDs for each device.
My logic is: ALL my purchases are tied to an AppleID, and I just want to share on devices that leave the house, like another iPhone.
So- what to do? How to get a seperate iCloud ID without a seperate AppleID? I have an iPhone & iPad, husband has an iTouch & iPhone. How to share selectively? All devices were originally setup using one Cloud ID and one Apple ID. Now I need new IDs to represent the new user on the iTouch & iPhone.

  • HT2204 What is the best way to use iTunes Match with two Apple ID's that have purchased content?

    Hello.
In my early years of using iOS devices i have unwittingly made the mistake of creating a second Apple ID for my second device.  So now i have two Apple ID's with purchased content associated with them.
I have turned on iTunes Match with the account that has the bulk of my music linked to it.  But my second account has maybe 150-200 songs (and lots of apps) that i really like and don't want to loose.  Activating iTunes Match for the main account wiped these 150-200 songs off my iOS devices and replace them.  Is it possible to have content from both my apple id's on my devices at the same time?  Is it possible to combine the content from both of my accounts?

I'll try to help a bit.
ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.
    Hope that helped.

  • Apple TV not playing purchased content. iTunes account Issue?

Like many others, I'm having issues getting Apple TV to play purchased content for a specific iTunes account. After hitting the play button, the movie or TV show thinks about it then reverts back to the information page.  This has been happening for just under a week.
I have two other accounts on my Apple TV, and they are both working OK. I asked another mate with an Apple TV to load my account onto his unit and he gets the same issue.
In an attempt to rectify the issue I have:
Reset my password fo itunes. No luck.
Restored the factory settings on the Apple TV. No luck.
Double check account and billing details. No Luck.
I really want to get this resolved. Can someone suggest a fix please!

    SOLVED.
I had the same problem minutes ago... I solved it by signing out my apple id from the apple tv and then sign in again. Movies start playing now! Hope this works for you too

  • Apple TV won't play purchased content

Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3 - Software version 6.2.1 - same problem happening on both of my Apple TV devices.
I have almost full access to the iTunes store from both of my Apple TV devices.  I can access Netflix and I can make iTunes purchases of movies and songs, etc.  When I try to watch the movie I've purchased, it begins to load, goes to "authorizing" and then I get the message:  "iTunes is currently unavailable.  Try again later."  This has been happening since last weekend.  I talked to numerous representatives who really never helped and seemed to just try and placate me with a generic answer that would get me off their phone so that they could move on to a problem they COULD solve.  The last rep, who was supposed to be a higher level rep told me that a server was down and it would come back in 24-48 hours.  I didn't believe him when he said it and clearly that wasn't the problem since I am still having problems.  AGAIN TODAY I've tried everything I can think of including restarting over and over, reseting the Apple TV and finally restoring the Apple TV to factory settings, which seems to have disabled my iTunes account and required me to go to "iForgot" to reset my password.  I did all of this which took at least an hour of my time and in the end, I get the same error.  Over the years I have spent literally thousands of dollars on content that I cannot access.  I have read older issues where people have had similar problems but they usually get a few minutes into the movie before that happens.  I can't get the movie (or song, etc.) to even start to play.  I can get the movie to play from my iPad though.  I have reopened my case.  I am so frustrated right now because I have movies that I bought that I can't watch.  Any ideas??

I have been getting frustrated with this as well.
I purchase content on my iMac, download it to my HDD then normally access that content on my ATV via "Home Sharing." Prior to the iOS 8 and Yosemite updates to all of the devices, this scenario worked perfectly.
Ever since the updates have been installed, I have to reboot EVERYTHING (router, iMac, ATV) to get my iTunes library show up on the ATV, then after I watch a movie and come back to watch another, I have to reboot EVERYTHING again.
My fix has been to unplug the ATV and access my Ultraviolet movies on my PS3 until such time as Apple can come up with a proper fix. It's nice to have a device that works properly.

  • Can't watch purchased content on Apple TV-?

    Hi there,
I am an American living in Saudi Arabia. I have purchased my Apple TV from the United States when I was there last and it is the 2nd generation. I have updated the software to 5.1.1. I have a few accounts on my Apple TV, but I am unable to play any purchased content on it. Everytime I try to play a Movie or TV Show from one of the accounts in my family, it says "An error occured loading this content. Try again later". How can I fix this?
Streaming through Airplay from any device (iTouch, iPhone, or Macbook Pro) works just fine, but playing purchased content through Apple TV directly does not work. It shows all my purchased content, but it will not play any of it. My iTunes store location is set to United States, as all of our accounts in the family are US accounts.
Also, previewing Movies and TV Shows in the iTunes store works fine as well. Its only watching purchased content.
    Thank you!

    Hi
I doubt it's the new update, I don't know if this is an issue specific to AppleTV but if you can play on the laptop it would seem unlikely it's because the content is blocked due to your location.
Have you unplugged AppleTV and restarted since changing the settings?  This can sometimes help fix odd behaviour and quick to do.
Hopefully somone doing teh same thing will chime in to confirm it works in Saudi Arabia with US content.

  • Not able to watch purchased content on apple tv

I have been having issues with my apple tv for a few months now!
I get as far as the purchased tv show episode within the menu and when I hit play and it say "there is an error connecting to iTunes"
I cannot get the latest up date either.  I was having Internet connectivity issues, but moved my modem closer and now vevo and YouTube work, just not my purchased content.
It was also freezing up on me contuously, but I reset it and so far it's been ok.
    Is my hard drive pooched?

    Hello there, Orrshaw.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great trecommendations for troubleshooting issues with connectivity and your Apple TV:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4546
If you are unable to access or play content while connected to a Wi-Fi network
Restart your Apple TV: Choose Settings > General > Restart.
Verify that you are selecting the correct network if you are in a location with multiple Wi-Fi networks.
Check the IP address that Apple TV is using. If it starts with 169.x.x.x, the router may not be configured properly.
If the router is using DHCP addressing, verify that the router is not limiting the number of devices that can connect through Wi-Fi.
If the router is using manual IP addressing, you will need to configure Apple TV with a manual IP address. You can do this by selecting your network on the Apple TV and choosing Configure IP.
Disconnect and rejoin your Wi-Fi network by selecting your network on the Apple TV and then choosing Forget Network. Rejoin your Wi-Fi network after it disconnects.
Verify that your Wi-Fi router is not using security features that may restrict content or devices:
If your router has a built-in firewall, you may need to adjust your settings to provide access to common ports used for services. For more information, see Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols.
If you need to add the MAC address to the access list for the Wi-Fi router, the MAC address is listed as the Wi-Fi address in Settings > General > About.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For an AirPort Base Station, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
If possible, connect using Ethernet and verify that you can play content. If you are able to successfully play content using Ethernet, verify your Apple TV is using the latest software by choosing Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: When using a public or commercial network that requires a login or subscription, Apple TV may not be able to connect to the Internet. Check with the network administrator for assistance.
If you tried all of these steps and your Wi-Fi issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple TV to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
