Apple TV loses wireless network connection when using AirPlay from iPad or iPhone 5

Our Apple TV loses connectivity to our wireless network while using Airplay from our iPad or iPhone 5. This started occurring after the latest iOS update. We are able to wirelessly stream movies from iTunes without any problem. This issue occurs only when using AirPlay. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a:
new MBPr 15" late 2013 with dedicated graphics card
new airport extreme base station
3rd generation apple tv
iPhone 5s
200mb download speed (not important, as streaming video on your local network has nothing todo with outside bandwidth)
All equipment is up to date software wise. Airplay mirroring from my laptop to my apple tv is ok. I get frequent lag, pixelation, audio skip (every 10 mins or so).
I'm using the 5ghz specturm to connect to the airport express so shouldn't have any inteference from my neibours (accordiing to iStumbler i'm the only person with a 5ghz setup using channel 30). I've tried connecting apple tv wirelessly and wired. No issues streaming from my iPhone or an iPad!
Surprisingly, using apps such as Beemer or Air Video Server on my MBP work better than native mirroring when it comes to video play back.
Strange when you think how Air Video works:
Video file lives on MBP
iPhone connects to laptop
Video plays on iPhone and is sent to Apple TV via Air Mirroring
Rather than:
Video played on laptop
Video sent to Apple TV
Seems bizzare that my iPhone can handle better streaming than my pro laptop.

  • Macbooks lose wireless network connections when they go to sleep

I work off a Mac in a busy office. We have a password-protected wireless network. The password is saved on my computer. Our landlord has an unprotected network. When I boot up, my Macbook tells me that it "can't find" any of my "trusted networks" and asks me if I want to join my landlord's. I say, no, pick the password protected network from the airport menu and log on. When the computer goes to sleep (or I shut the lid to put it to sleep), upon waking up, it asks me the same question. Usually takes a few seconds to find the right network.
I have this problem in two offices with two wireless, password protected networks. One of the networks is brand new. My boss got a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and now he's having that problem on the brand new network, recently upgraded for future Electronic Medical Records applications.
Only his problem is worse because it won't remember the network password. He gets the "not connected to the internet message," runs network diagnostics, chooses the protected network, reenters password, finally connects to the Internet, then has to close the computer to run back to work. (Quite comical if you're not getting the heat for it.)
Note, neither of us have this problem in our homes where our computers run on Airport Extreme networks.
Is there anything we can do to ensure that the Macbooks always find the password protected network and we don't have to re-enter the network password every time?

Thank you very much for your answer. Now I admit I'm a total non-techie. I see how to choose networking from system preferences and change location from automatic to new network. Then I can manually add the network. But do I also have to 'set macs to remember previous networks' and if so, how do I do that?

  • When I use airplay from Ipad foxtel appication video doesnt come on tv

when I use airplay from Ipad foxtel appication video doesnt come on tv, audio comes. It works ok with other applications

Some apps/providers disable video over Airplay for commercial reasons - check teh foxtel site to see if video airplay is allowed.
Can you use Airplay mirroring instead of airplay?

  • Is wifi requires to use airplay from ipad?

Does the Apple TV require an wireless network connection to use the iPad or iPhone's airplay feature?  I am really wondering if I were to bring it to a nother house temporarily, would I be able to Airplay videos from my iPad to it without it being on a network?
    Thanks

It requires a network, but that can be either a wired or wireless network.

  • Apple TV 3 drops network connection when it goes to sleep

I updated my Apple TV 3 to software version 7.0 (based on iOS 8) and now every time it goes to sleep it shuts down the network connection.  To wake it up, I either need to use the remote or use an iOS 8 device that supports handoff.  At least I think it does since my iPhone 5s can wake it up, but my iPad 2 cannot.  I believe the Apple TV is now using Bluetooth for connections.   This basically means Airplay with older devices won't work without first waking the Apple TV.  I'm not sure the point of the change since I'm using Ethernet, not Wifi, so there's no reason to "power down".
on a side note, sometimes the iPhone 5s can't wake the Apple TV either.  It usually wakes up when I open the control panel, but not always.  It goes back to sleep when I close the control panel.
Ia there any setting to make it work the way it used to?

the WIFI does not drop when my appletv goes to sleep.
my iphone can still see the appletv (via the airplay icon) when it is asleep.
All you are seeing is the last known Wifi state in iTunes (and similar app in iPhone, iPod, iPad). The AppleTV however has powered down "something" in its own mechanism to conserve power.
For the Apple TV to use such low watts in operation, its got to be powering down something.
I have seen this behaviour before in other devices that try to power down Wifi in a sleep state. It is not connected but it thinks it is. I'm not an expert in Wifi technology so won't state what is happening behind the scenes but do know that re-starting/re-powering up the devices will cause the wifi connections to be re-established.
I would try this but don't have access to my ATV at the moment. Turn off encryption and see if the problem persists. My gut tells me that the WPA/WEP encryption has lost itself in the low power state.
I suspect that 10/100/Gig RJ45 ethernet connections are not affected.

  • IMac loses wireless network connection intermittently - Linksys wrt54g v.5

I' ve setup a new 17" iMac for my folks, runs great with this big exception - it will spontaneously, but regularly lose connectivity with my Linksys WRT54G v.5 router (usually after sleep, but not always - and sometimes when starting cold). Restarting the iMac, fidgeting with internet connect, etc. will not fix the problem. ONLY power cycling the Linksys router will allow the iMac to once again see the network. Once the router is recycled, the network reappears with its strong signal indicator in the menubar (the iMac is maybe 20 feet from the router). When connected, network performance and quality are at expected levels (ie, no slow d/l speeds etc.).
To make it interesting, I also have a PC running XPsp2, that experiences NO network hiccups when the iMac loses connectivity. And the iMac does this whether or not the PC is on, etc. But if I turn the PC on when the iMac cannot connect, the PC has no problem joining the network or accessing resources.
In otherwords, I sense a problem between the Linksys router and the iMac (either the Airport card or OS X).
I HAVE upgraded the Linksys firmware, upgraded all Apple software, changed router channels, and tried both WEP and WPA Personal, all to the same result. I have also scoured every corner of Apple and Linksys boards, only to find many people with this same issue and no answers.
    Brownie points for answers!

    Well, so far so good!
I would never have found the preferences, so thank you thank you thank you for that Sherry. I never did delete ALL the prefs, just the ones obviously labeled as network related. But so far, no dropouts for 2.5 days. If Apple has anything up detailing this procedure, I sure couldn't find it - so you saved me there. I thought we left all the "delete prefs" solutions behind with OS 9.
BUT, I was a bad boy and actually made two changes at once. Not recommended procedure, I know, but I was desperate. In addition to deleting/recreating the above prefs, I also changed the router from Channel 1 to Channel 11. Maybe the Airport card likes Chan. 11 in this application? Dunno if this was part of the solution, but worhwhile info for anyone else in the same situation.
Thanks again Sherry, I've marked "helpful" and "solved" accordingly.

  • Network disconnects when using youtube on ipad air

network disconnects and turns it self off when using youtube app on ipad air

    Hello paulm250m
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
    Best of luck,

  • No Video using Airplay from iPad 2 to Apple TV 2 using authorized App.

I have an iPad 2 and Apple TV 2.   I use Slingbox.
Today, I started watching a show using my iPad as a Slingbox Player.   The source TV was in another state.   The video and audio was good, and the network speed using Speakeasy was above 3MBPS download.   I clicked on the Airplay button at the top, and the video and audio started playing on my HD TV in full HD.  Audio and Video were correct and great.
Then I tried to change channels and evenutally I disconnected the Slingbox.   I reconnected the Slingbox and after pushing the Airplay button again, I only got audio (with a little musical note symbol on the tv at the lower lest corner).   I then proceeded to reboot the iPad 2 and i reset the Apple TV to factory settings.   No luck.  Reconnecting via Airplay to the TV only will stream Audio.   The network speed stayed above 3MBPS.
I also was unable to connect video using my iPhone, but I was able with my MacBook Air.
Note:  I AM able to force mirroring by turning Mirroring "on" (double click on button, swipe app bar to the right, hit Airplay button, and turn on Mirroring).   But although the video is fine, I lose HD and the picture qualtiy is degraded.   Not a good solution.
I now KNOW that I can send a Slingbox signal to my HDTV from my iPad as a Slingplayer and using Airplay.  It worked!  But only for about 20 minutes, and I am not able to get it back.
This is a real poser.   I hope someone knows how to fix this (but judging from the other questions on this question over the years - I doubt it...:-(

I FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY OWN QUESTION:  The Slingplayer will tend to default to SQ (Standard Quality) playback.   Under "Quality" on the Slingplayer screen, there are choices of SQ, HD (High Def) and AUTO.   I selected "Auto" and it went to HD quality.  Then, when I enabled AirPlay, a full HD picture appeared on my TV WITHOUT having to select "Mirroring".
    I get 10 points...

  • Help please? I would not like the audio to mirror to my TV when using airplay from my MacBook.

I have a small music studio setup. I have an audio interface for the output of my macbook's audio. I like to use airplay with my macbook and apple TV. But when I use air play, my audio stop outputting from my macbooks audio output interface and mirrors through my TV speakers.
I'd like the audio to remain playing from my setup output but the screen I'd like mirrored through my apple TV and moutain lion.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance.

There is no "corruption" involved - iTunes typically revises the format of its database with new versions, so these are not backward-compatible with prior releases.  iTunes does, however, preserve the library file from the previous release when you upgrade.  If you've already uninstalled iTunes 12 and installed an outdated version, you can skip steps 1 and 5 below.
    Unistall iTunes 12
Delete or rename the iTunes Library.itl file (by default in C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes)
Locate the date-time stamped copy of the iTunes Library.itl file in the Previous iTunes Library folder (this should be the one created when you updated from 11 to 12)
Copy this file to the location identified in step 2, and rename it iTunes Library.itl
    Install iTunes 11
Hold down Shift as you start iTunes, when you get this prompt:
click Choose Library..., navigate to and select the iTunes Library.itl file from step 4, and click OK.
"Opening past libraries" doesn't work if you're simply double-clicking on the old library database files in the Previous iTunes Library folder - this will just launch iTunes and load the current database file.

  • Imac keeps losing wireless network connection when awoken from sleep mode

I recently did a archive and install on my Imac and I am still trying to get the kinks out.
Since I did the archive and install, my Imac loses it connection to our wireless router. I assume it isn't renewing its DHCP lease. In order to get a connection again, I have to restart my cable modem and my wireless router.
My network settings are set to join preferred networks by default. My default preferred network is listed and the security parameters have been fulfilled. I am set up to use DHCP in Imac preferences.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    jk

    Hi, See if this helps...
    Go to System Preferences
    Click Network
    Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
    Select your access point.
Remove your access point with the little minus sign. Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
Add it in again after a reboot.

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.

  • 3000 N100 lost network connection when resuming from standby

My Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop seems to lose it's network connection when it resumes from standby.  I have to restart the machine in order to reconnect to the ethernet network.  Running WindowsXP Pro.  Any advice or suggestions?
    Thanks,

Sorry for presumption that it was wireless connection issues, it might work since the solution involves tweaking or changing power management settings.
However, if does not work you can still look for the solution in that website by entering the problem in the search dialogue box and clicking "search site"

Trying to connect my new Apple TV to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote the Apple Tv doesn't respond ( doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

Out of the blue, my ITouch is unable to access my wireless network ONLY when my PC is on (the PC is connected via Ethernet cable, and has no wireless capabilities that I know of).  What gives?  When the PC is turned off, everything is totally fine.  I\m stumped.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
I suspect a problem with your router. Try changing the security. First use no security as a test.
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
