Apple TV Menu dimmming in sub menus and user info screens

Hey all. I have a problem with my apple tv (2nd gen) dimming when in a sub menu or entering usernames, passwords, etc. When I back out to the main menu the screen brightens. The screen is at normal level when watching videos etc.
I believe it has nothing to do with my lcd since the screen is fine on the main apple tv menu.
Any ideas? Is this a setting? I didn't see it in the settings menu.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
One of my tv's dims its screen when it is mostly black, but this is a function of the tv, could the same be so in your case.

  • Cannot click on sub-menus and notification prompts in Mircosoft Exchange when using Firefox.

    When I access Microsoft Exchange web app from Firefox I've can no longer click on pop-up sub-menus and notifications that I could previous use.
    For example, when I go to empty my deleted items folder and select empty folder, I get this notification (menu 1) that I now cannot click on. All I can do is just hit 'enter' to close the menus without actually making a yes/no input.
    Similarly, when i go to move folders and get this pop-up menu (menu 2), I cannot make any selection, and the 'enter' to close method does not work. All I can do then is close the page.
    I have tried disabling firefox's pop-up blocker but that did not rectify the issue. I can still use the sub-menus in other web browsers so this is a firefox specific problem.
    Any help in identifying the cause and remedying this would be greatly appreciated.

    i want to change my apple id on my macbook pro in the user info. it ask for a password...i am typing in my password to the apple id but it will not accept it....how to solve it ?

    I'm afraid that you may be confusing two different 'passwords' - there's your Apple ID (the user name and password that you used to get into these forums) and then there's your computer user name and password - usually two seperate user names and passwords.
    If you want to change your password for your user account on your computer, go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and unlock the preference pane. Then you can select your user name and change your password there. Changing a user name is a bit complex and I don't think you want to try that!

  • Help with menus, sub menus and such.....

    Hello
    I have spent ages getting to this point and after checking everything over and over and over yet again I cannot figure out what is happening with the menus at the top of my page.
    The first menu "Garrett Smith" operates fine. The sub menus appear directly under it as they should when it is moused over.
    It is the second menu "Work" in which I am having a problem. When you mouseover "Work", "View by Discipline" should open directly underneath. Once "View by Discipline" is clicked the four submenus should then open, again directly underneath "Work" and "View by Discipline". Then once "Print", "Printmaking", "Illustration" or "Photography" is moused over the test menus should in turn pop up to the side of them lining up with the top of each, depending on which one is moused over.
    I have checked my CSS, javascript and everything else over and over. I imagine it is something simple that I am simply overlooking as I have been searching though all of this for the better part of the day so it is all blending together.
    Here is the link to the site if you need to see my attempts thus far:
    http://garrettsmithprintdesign.com/
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Garrett,
       I'm not as familiar with a jquery script, but in many of the drop-downs I've created, the submenu is built as a nested sub-set of it's parent... for instance instead of this:
    <li class="printbutton"><a href="#">Print</a></li>
    <li class="printmakingbutton"><a href="#">Printmaking</a></li>
    <li class="illustrationbutton"><a href="#">Illustration</a></li>
    <li class="photographybutton"><a href="#">Photography</a></li>
                    </ul>
              </li>
              </ul>
    <div id="print">
    <ul id="printmenu">
    <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
    </ul>
    </div>
    You may have something that looks more like this:
    <li class="printbutton"><a href="#">Print</a>
      <ul>
       <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
       <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
       <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
       <li><a href="#">test</a></li>
      </ul>
    </li>
    <li class="printmakingbutton"><a href="#">Printmaking</a></li>
    <li class="illustrationbutton"><a href="#">Illustration</a></li>
    <li class="photographybutton"><a href="#">Photography</a></li>
    </ul>           </li>           </ul>
    This is just an example - NOT the solution, but I think this will put you more on track if you experiment a bit along these lines. Note that closing "<li> tag for the "print" link is AFTER the nested "<ul> tags of it's submenu.
    Also, if this is still problematic, note that there are tons of free samples on the web (as well as many you can purchase). Also, I've found  Dreamweaver's "Spry menu system" isn't a bad place to start - it does have a few bugs, but it begins with a very basic double-drop down menu that you can fairly easily customize by editing the css...
    Hope that helps,
    Jesse

  • JAAS LoginModule j_security_check and user info

    Hello there,
    I successfully implemented custom LoginModule which validates users against passwords stored in database by calling some server api's. I am using container managed security via j_security_check servlet.
    This is working fine, now I just wonder what is the best way to store additional information about user like name, surname email and make them accessible to JSP/JSF pages.
    I did not found any link from LoginModule to HttpSession so I am stuck on this. Ideally I would like to store this additional info immediately after user is successfully authenticated by LoginModule.
    Any hint on this?
    ferdo

    Frank, thanks for comments.
    Yes user info is in the sama database so I can get it from there, but I would like to call this DB function once after succesfull authentication. In addition we have kind of 2 level passwords in place, one application password and one internal db password for user to access database resources.
    User does not know his/her db password, we have just api to get db password after authentication and existing application api (developed for forms client originaly) assumes user access db by his own connection, so in many api's oracle function user is stored in some tables.
    So what I need is after authentication of user (with application password) I can get Oracle password and then make new DB connection to all application api, just would like to store Oracle password (or new user db connection )somewhere so I dont need to fetch it everytime I need to call application API.

  • Apple TV menu shows only "Computers" app and "Settings" app?

    We have ATV 2nd generation and it has worked very well until recently.  We didn't use it for about a month or so and when we went to use it the other day, it turns on fine but our menu screen shows only 2 apps "Computers" and "Settings".  No movies, tv shows, Netflix, MLB, nothing.  When we click on the "Computers" app it asks to turn on Home Sharing.  When I try to enter apple id and password through ATV it tells me that the id and/or password are incorrect.  They aren't!  Home Sharing is on when I check iTunes on the computer.  In the "Settings" app I have tried restarting and resetting the ATV. It doesn't work. We are also unable to connect to iTunes from ATV.  I enter the id and password and I get a message the iTunes is unavailable and to try again later.  VERY FRUSTRATED!  Has anyone had these issues??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
        1.    You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
        2.    Also try restarting the router.
        3.    If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
        4.    If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
    If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

  • My iphone has been toggling between the Apple logo(like its just been rebooted) and the home screen. I cant do anything to stop it. Batt still has some juice. It keeps beeping also, the same beep u hear everytime u plug in to charge.

    I have updated it to 4.3.3 abt 2 weeks ago. I have also tried rebooting it a few time but to no avail. You can email me at [email protected]
    Thanks!!!!

    Hi, did you ever solve this problem?
    My 1 year old -- ha! one month out of warranty -- iPhone 4 has been having a nearly identical problem over the past few days.
    It started by dying completely so I had the battery replaced, thinking it was simply battery issue.
    It then worked again for a moment but started doing exactly what you describe, going through a reset cycle (longer than 30 seconds but who's counting). And it felt quite warm.
    Did hard reset, plugged into wall charger and MBP USB but the new battery wouldn't even get a full charge (a whopping 92% after nearly two days). It would even lose battery when plugged in if I opened an app. And all the while plugged in, if I left the phone on, it would cycle through these resets. So I turned it off to try to charge it.
    Now suddenly, it's dead again. Totally black, and hard reset does nothing. Up until two days ago there was nothing wrong whatsoever with this phone! And I hadn't even installed a new app that could be the root of the issue. No idea whatsoever what caused this.
    Any help would be much appreciated!!

  • Apple Script to make Pages open in a user-selected screen position

    This is a follow-up to a response/script made previously by Yvan KOENIG that enables Pages to open a Pages template in a user-selected "left" position.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9100331#9100331
    This works great for me, but I'd like to take this one step further, if possible. I'm naïve when it comes to Apple Scripts
    Currently, if I use the script, it opens up in 100% 'fit-width' view as follows:
    http://trials.sent.com/pages/100.png
    What I'd like it to do is to open up in 125% 'fit-width' view as follows:
    http://trials.sent.com/pages/125.png
    I'd like to therefore ask if it's possible to somehow enable this in the script above.

    I looked at the English version.
    Let me say you that you are a funny guy.
    Set width and set "Fit Width" are incompatible commands.
    On my 1920 x 1200 screen, if I set scale to 125%, Fit Width is disabled.
    If I check "Fit width", the size remains unchanged but is no longer selected.
    On a smaller display, "Fit Width" will set the page in the "100%" mode.
    My guess is that it's what you get.
    As I am a good guy,
    I add some instructions in the code.
    Now you may activate several settings to fit your needs (when they are technically compatibles).
    --(SCRIPT openToLeft.app]
    Enregistrer le script en tant que Script, Application ou Progiciel : openToLeft.xxx
    déplacer l'application créée dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    Il vous faudra peut-être créer le dossier Pages et peut-être même le dossier Applications.
    menu Scripts > Pages > openToLeft
    Le script créera un nouveau document à partir du modèle choisi et le poussera à gauche de l'écran.
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
    L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
    Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
    Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    +++++++
    Save the script as a Script, an Application or an Application Bundle: openToLeft.xxx
    Move the newly created application into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    menu Scripts > Pages > openToLeft
    The script will create a new document from the selected template and will push it to the screen's left edge.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
    To make the Script menu appear:
    Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
    Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.

  • User name sent to my email address, but never arrives. Has Firefox been hacked and user info being sent to the wrong people?

    Had some issues with Firefox 35.0.1 trying to post on this forum. Fox would not accept my login, so I requested to reset my password. Password reset O.K. still a no go, thought my login was bad and requested them send my "User name" (same email) User name never arrives. I had to create a new account on the forum to post this question as I can't get my old login to work.
    Anyone else having this problem or has Firefox been hacked and my "User Name" sent to someone else?

I can ask an admin to take a look at the technical side of what is happening, the email is removed from the public thread, however it may be necessary to investigate. • Sharing A Solution - CREATING A SET OF SUB MENUS ON MAIN MENU IN iDVD

    A recent question I posted got some attention from a number of people about how to create a set of sub menus on the main menu of an iDVD project. Evidently there are a number of us who tried to find a way to do this. I attended an Apple Store iDVD workshop and was fortunate enough to be the only one in attendance. So I had the Mac Genius’s attention for a full hour and he was very helpful. Here’s how to do this in detail. Good luck!
    - Fred
    CREATING A SET OF SUB MENUS ON MAIN MENU IN iDVD
    NOTE: when you import the iMovie file don’t add to the drop zones or add music to the sub menus until you finish this work!
    Go to the map view. Once in map view choose to show the map view as a flow chart moving from left to right – it’s the left selection of the two which appear on the left-hand side of the sizing slider tool that determines how big the map view icons will appear. You will want to set that slider to the minimum size to make it easier to navigate. Select the main menu icon.
    Open the main menu to edit it and select “Scene Selection” and then copy and paste it as many times as you have sub menus. Each sub menu can only hold 6 scenes so if you have 18 scenes you will have 3 sub menus which means you will copy the first one and then past it twice which will give you 3 sets of “Scene Selection” options on the main page.
    After you create the set of “Scene Selections” return to map view. You will now have a copy of each group of sub menus under each sub menu. The entire film will be recreated for each set of “Scene Selections” that you have and you need to edit them out so that you have only one for each sub menu.
    You CANNOT simply delete the groups in front of the one you want to keep. For instance, suppose you have 3 sub menu groups and you are at the first sub menu selection. You cannot simply delete the first two groups in front of the third one – it will delete all of the sub menus after the one you want.
    (REPEAT FROM HERE) Go to the last group of sub menus and select the scenes for the first group of sub menus. In other words go down to the last grouping of sub menus, locate the first sub menu group and choose each scene within the group and delete each one. This will leave you with an empty sub menu. Do this for the next group and any subsequent group up to the last one. Do not delete the last group! This is the group you want at this level.
    Once you have deleted the scenes you can cut and paste the last group of scenes to the first sub menu selection in the group. Once done you can delete the other sub menus groups that come after the first one.
    Once you have the group of scenes moved to the first sub menu selection you need to change the name of the group of scenes. For instance if you are working on group 13-18 you need to change the group name from 1-6 which is what it is currently named.
    Repeat these steps for each successive group moving up from the last one to the top with one change – you will choose to delete the last group from each successive sub menu since you have already saved it in the last group you worked on which is below the one upon which you are now working.
    Once you are at the top group you will then simply be able to delete the other sub menus that appear beyond the first one.

    Nicola,
    The Fact: It's all in the markup and the CSS.
    The Problem:  We are not privy to your markup and CSS and as such cannot help you.
    The Solution: Supply a link to your site, or at the very least, copy and paste your code here

  • Spry Menu Bar 1.7 Rendering Variable background height based presence/absense of sub-menus

    First, let me thank those who have offered help on previous posts on this issue -- the suggestions have pointed me in new directions.
    However I am still having problems with the first menu item on the top level of a horizontal menu bar which (because it has no sub-menu) renders the background differently from the other main level items.  I have implemented suggestions, as you will see, by setting a class for menu items with sub-menus as per the suggestion, and then proceeding working with line height to make specific changes within that class.  However any changes appeared universally through the menu bar at all levels.
    Working from that suggestion, I tried establishing a class of "menubarhorizontal_no-sub-menu" and then adjusted the line height for that item.  Unfortunately it applied this change again to all items leaving a displeasing white gap between menu items in the drop down menus.
    I wanted to put out a call once more.  I realize that the problem is in determining which of the rules to style, but I seem to have exhausted the possibilities.  The latest version can be seen at www.aclco.org/testing/index.html which will provide a visual of the problem.  You can see it doesn't look much different than the original which is http://www.aclco.org/index.html.
    I am also including the code for the nav bar which is inserted as a library item into all the pages:

            display: inline;
            f\loat: left;
            background: #FFF;
    Finally, there is minimal css coding to help position the menu bar within the web page relative to the top of the page, and left edge of the web page.
    This is done with a div tag called Main Nav Contents.
    #Main_nav_contents {
        padding: 0;
        margin-top: 0px;
        height: auto;
        width: 950px;
        padding-top: 275px;
        padding-left: 35px;
    I would very much appreciate any further help that people can provide me.  It seems that the trick is to identify the appropriate rule; however that has thus far alluded me.
    Thanks,

  • [JS CS3] Why do sub menus disappear?

    Hello,
    The below script creates a new menu with three sub menus. One of the sub menus invokes a script, while the other two are still under construction. This seems to work except for one irksome thing: When I close InDesign and then reopen it, the menu ("PPcheck") exists but the sub-menus are no longer under the menu. How do I make them permanent?
    Thanks,
    Tom
    #targetengine session
    var englishCheck = new File( "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 5.0/Scripts/Scripts Panel/Format/formatCheckWindow.jsx");
    var englishCheckMenu = app.scriptMenuActions.add("Main-English");
    englishCheckMenu.eventListeners.add("onInvoke", englishCheck, false);
    var frenchCheckMenu = app.scriptMenuActions.add("Main-French");
    frenchCheckMenu.eventListeners.add("onInvoke", underConstruct, false);
    var spanishCheckMenu = app.scriptMenuActions.add("Main-Spanish");
    spanishCheckMenu.eventListeners.add("onInvoke", underConstruct, false);
    //following creates menu if it does not exist
    try{
        var scriptMenu = app.menus.item("$ID/Main").submenus.item("PPcheck");
        scriptMenu.title;
    catch (e){
        var scriptMenu = app.menus.item("$ID/Main").submenus.add("PPcheck");
    //following adds sub menu items
    scriptMenu.menuItems.add(englishCheckMenu);
    scriptMenu.menuItems.add(frenchCheckMenu);
    scriptMenu.menuItems.add(spanishCheckMenu);
    //****functions******
    function underConstruct(){
        alert("The French and Spanish semi-automatic checkers are still under construction.");

    Hi Tom,
    I'm not sure wheather it will work, but try two things:
    1. put quotes on session so it states
    #targetengine "session"
    2. don't put "false" in eventListeners
    it's just a guess, but maybe it works
    regards, mileking

  • Spry bar sub menus not working. Am at wit's end.

    Hi all,
    I am having trouble with getting my submenus on my spry bar to function. At first I was getting the error message of spry undefined.  I looked for answers in forums, and tried a few things like making sure the .js file was there, looking for code mistakes, etc. Nothing worked, so I then deleted and reinstalled the spry bar and spry assets files, and of course, uploaded them to the server. Now I don't get any error messages, but the submenus just don't drop down.

    Any ideas? Is it something to do with where my Spry Asset folder is, like maybe I shouldn't have ../../../?????
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Although you didn't get an answer here, I visited your web page and it looks like you found a way to solve the problem. I am having a similar problem and wonder if you (or somebody) can help me?
    My problem is that while everything else works just fine, my sub-submenus do not. The first one drops down, but the second one does not (so it looks like I have one item when in fact I have two).
    My css code is copied directly from Adobe's SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css. The only things I changed were some button widths, colors, and I tweaked the location the buttons appear in (but did not change original locations nor z-indexes, I don't think!). I am reprinting it below, just in case.
    I am using the last version of Spry (1.6.1).
    Here is a link to the page, and when you view it, keep in mind that only "Portfolio" has sub-menus, and of those, only "Writing" is supposed to have more than one sub-item ("Fiction" and "Non-Fiction").

  • Scaling factor applied to secondary, sub menus

    Hello;
    I have move from Los Angeles to Talent, Oregon. If I need to change anything other
    than e-mail address let me know.
    I am working on an mp3 player app. I am programming in markers that can be set
    for the purpose of playing a selection from and/or to a set marker. The markers are
    set in pause mode via a main menu. If there are already markers set, the main menu
    will show a list of the set markers via a sub menu. I am having trouble with the sub
    menu display. There is a container graphic with individual graphics for each marker
    by the marker number. The marker numbers are displayed via text applied to the
    menu item graphic.
    The problem is that for each marker added, these sub menus, play from and play
    to, will display the item text with a multiplied scaling factor.
    Of course these sub menus have to be created and constructed dynamically, accor-
    ding to the number of set markers. So, the code is fairly involved. I can post the
    current state of the project for anyone willing to see what I am dealing with, and
    supply, hopefully, only necessary code.
    As a note I posted to this forum last year when I was having the same problem
    with the main menu graphic. That was fixed by going back to the graphic object
    in Flash (CS4, Mac) and fiddling with the width and height figures, and unchecking
    'Export in frame 1'. I am recycling the same graphic for the sub menus and the
    scaling factor is showing up again
    Thank you anyone with patience and will to take a look
    JK
