Apple TV -- mini usb port -- memory stick

Hi,
From a newbie to Apple TV.
If, using an adapter cable, I connect a memory stick that contains video files (mp4, webm, etc.), will I be able to view the videos on my TV via Apple TV?
Thanks for you help.
Andynic

PS: That is, connect the memory stick via the mini-usb port on Apple TV

  • Solution for worn mini-USB port? (charging connection unreliable)

I thought my battery was going bad, but just realized that my mini-USB port is apprently worn. When I plug in either my automobile cigarette lighter charger, or my regular plug-in charger, the charging connection is not reliable. Unless I position everything just right, the charging connection isn't made.
Has anyone else experienced this issue -- and hopefully found a solution for it (short of replacing the whole BlackBerry)?
    TIA
    Tom

A specialized small electronics repair house in your town might tackle it... takes a bit of soldering in the new one.
It's nothing something I would do myself unless that is your expertise.

  • N900 hardware fault (mini USB port)

I had been enjoying the N900 for the three weeks since I received it.  I didn't run into any of the reboot or other problems. With no warning, however, the mini USB port came undone from inside the device. I already sent the device off for warranty replacement but the warranty isn't going to replace all the settings and data I spent hours to do. It's my own fault for not storing a backup file off the device. Once the mini USB failed, the only option left was bluetooth or infrared to get data off the device but I decided I would just start from scratch instead.  Anyway, it looks like I was just unlucky because I havfen't seen anyone else having the same problem.  I'm relieved it's not an N97 lens scratch type issue.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

FYI Nokia and N900 users: this is NOT the fault of users.  The root cause was poor design design of using a surface mount female USB connector rather than through-hole mount.  The reports of incidents are piling up, the majority resulting from casual use soon after purchase.
Someone in Maemo Devices needs to take this seriously.  The connector and mount method need to be changed ASAP if they have not already.  Don't blame the users; honor the warranty and human decency and replace broken devices.

  • USB port , flash stick memory or iPod is not seeing in Finder or Disk Utility only in SytemProfiler , the same devices on other computer working perfect .

intel iMac , 10.5.8 , suddenly USB ports stop seeing any devices ( flash memory stick , iPod etc ) connected to it , neither on keyboard nor on computer back panel . Finder or Disk Utility not showing this devices , but the devices  could be seen using SytemProfiler . The same devices connected to another Mac computer are working fine .

    Try resetting the SMC per:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • USB 2 Memory Stick

    Hi,
I have a 512MB USB 2.0 memory stick, which I have tried to use on my Powerbook.
It is recognised in the system profiler as USB 2.0, with a reported speed up to 480 Mb/sec. However, it has taken approximately 20 min to copy over 150MB of files, which seems very slow.
Is there anything I can do to get the memory stick to work correctly?
    Thanks,
    Calvin

Thanks for the advice. Please can you advise how I should do this - in disk utility it only seems to format as FAT16 (even when just selecting MS DOS File System) rather than FAT32.
However, I think you have correctly identified the issue as relating to the file system. I did a test of formatting to the Mac OS Extended file system and the speed increase was extremely apparent. Unfortunately I can't stick long-term with this, because the device needs to also be readable by Windows.
    Thanks,
    Calvin

  • Cannot share a volume from a USB flash memory stick

    Hi,
I had a small USB disk drive hanging off my iMac for years. At one point I shared it and was able to access it from other Macs at my house.
Recently the drive began to fail, and since it was a small disk, I decided to replace it with a 128GB flash memory stick instead of a mechanical hard drive. I formatted the memory stick as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which is the same way the hard drive is formatted, and I copied all my files onto it.
The new volume works fine on my iMac, but I can't share it. In the Settings, if I try to add the drive as a share, nothing shows up. I can share individual folders on the drive, and they appear to be shared, but they are never visible on any of the remote computers. (Everything is running Mountain Lion).
I can't figure out what could be causing this. I checked and repaired the volume several times, it seems fine, it just won't share.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Aha, a proper Eureka moment.
Thanks for the tip, and it does exactly what I hoped it would.Thank you, I knew it had to be a simple solution ( too simple for me to work out though ! )

  • Extending the ram with a usb flash memory stick

I heard that it is possible to use a memory usb stick to extend the ram memory in the mac, it this true and how do I do this? I have a 4 gb flash stick and it would be great if I could just plug it in and have more ram!
    André

Not possible. A USB memory stick can be used to park files and move them between computers, but that's about it. These devices also operate at a much, much slower speed than built-in memory, so even if this were possible, it would be painfully slow.

  • Satellite P50-A09M - problems reading USB flash memory sticks

Getting USB sticks as showing up as a empty drive, if you click on it the File Explorer locks up. A reboot fixed it but their are other problems.
I did a System backup on 3 DVD's and seems to run OK, but I thought may be to try a USB2 stick.
Toshiba Brand no good just locked up the Stick had to use the USB stick format utile on my Main W7/32 PC to recover it.
I even tried again with a Sandisk USB3 stick, did the same corrupted the stick having constant problem on reading from USB ports. I tried a 1TB hard drive just locked up the File Explorer, but a reboot was OK..
So have since did a system recovery and then a System backup the USB sticks works no errors, but no software has been loaded..
This is a 5 day old Satellite P50-A09M
I am trying it again with all the Windows updates..

USB Sticks these are 3 good brands
One a Toshiba, the USB 3 Hard drive is a USB 3 Powered Model Imation Apollo M100 Portable Hard Drive
These USB sticks did not show correctly no Size and clicking on the USB Drive, caused the Laptop to lockup, a reboot fixed that problem and the same with the USB3 hard drive.
When I tried to do a system backup it scrambled 2 USB sticks, after a system recovery it worked ok on the same 2 USB sticks.
On my Home made PC yes I am a retired Computer Eng, the 2 scrambled sticks would not format they showed up as being unformatted, I had to use the HP USB format utile to format them.
This PC is about 2 years old running Windows pro 7/32
The Laptop is still have a bit of a problem with a 8GB Lexar USB2 stick the activity Led was flashing all the time seems like the USB port was seeing the stick as being in then out, plugged it in the USB3 port and it was OK.
Been using these USB sticks to transfer data from the Main PC to the laptop.
Sorry for the delay in replying but we have big problems in logging on here in NZ and not just me, I set myself as a new user and it logged me on as my old user, do you have any clues on getting around this as a mate has the same problem.
    Thanks.

  • Apple TV Micro USB Port

Can you add a hard drive via the micro usb port?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No the USB port is for servicing only (you can't actually use it anyway when you have an HDMI cable plugged in)

  • Appletv mini usb port not working

Plugged in mini usb into Macbook and its not reading the appletv. Any thoughts?

only reason one connects it by usb is if the appletv have 100% crashed and need to have it's firmware restored
not sure what you mean by "does not read on my bacbook" but if you mean it does not access the macbooks shared itune lib then thats a feature that needs to be turned on in itunes on the computer
not be block by the firewall in the computer
and not be blocked by the wifi router
most wifi router blocking can be ruled out if you try to connect it by ethernet cable rather then wifi
then all you have which could be blocking you would be your computers firewall which you can turn off to test
or if you did not set your itunes lib to be shared which you can then do in your itunes on your computer

  • Ipod Mini - USB Port

I am thinking of getting an Ipod Mini but my laptop only has a USB 1 Port and I was wondering if the Ipod Mini will work with a USB 1 port as all of the literature about it only mentions using it with a USB 2.0 port. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

As Jeff said, you will be much better off if you get a good Firewire PCI card such as the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300. Firewire is normally faster and more reliable than USB (1 or 2). Note that a Firewire iPod cable is also needed if you take this route.

  • USB flash memory stick - 2 drives mount!

    Hi,
When i insert my new "integral" ice flash drive, 2 drives mount on my desktop. Even disk utility sees them as different disks rather than partitions.
I only want one! Any clues?

    Aha, a proper Eureka moment.
Thanks for the tip, and it does exactly what I hoped it would.Thank you, I knew it had to be a simple solution ( too simple for me to work out though ! )

  • Apple's Dock Connector will become mini-USB?!!?

Hi everybody, I heard that: from 2011 Apple and other Mobile phone makers are planing to use mini-USB port as a universal charging connector! I just want to know, what will happens to Dock connector? replace with a mini-USB port, or what?
and then what about the speaker docks?! they'll become useless for apple's new products?! and itunes will work with a USB connection?!

Speculation is not allowed in the forums.

  • Problems with 10.4.9 and USB memory stick??

Since I've updated to 10.4.9 I'm having nothing but grief when using my Memorex USB 1GB memory stick. I use it for backing up crucial files (e.g address book, etc.)
Now, when I attempt to copy files to the memory stick, the system goes into an infinite loop (spinning beachball forever) -- even all night long, even though the files I'm transferring aren't very big. Some of my files copy, but some don't.
This has happened three times now. The Finder is "not responding" and won't even let me do a relaunch -- I end up with a blank screen with a corrupted menu bar. The only thing that gets me going again is to Power OFF, twice!! After the first power off, pause, power on, I just get the Apple logo and spinning spokes. Soon the fan comes on full force in the CPU. Runs forever. So, power off again, pause, power on and this time the start up is OK, my desktop etc. all appear OK. (I remove the memory stick before powering on).
On the latest attempt, I had to power off and on three times before things were OK.
I erased the memory stick to start fresh, but still, the same problem -- and infinite Finder loop when attempting to copy files over. Lots of available space. Some files/folders copy. But when I simply try to open a folder on the stick, ....the infinite loop again.
    What's going on??!!________

The repetitive powering off and on has resulted in a damaged drive directory and/or corrupted system files. Although you can try repairing the hard drive I suspect you will have to reinstall OS X.
    Try this first:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't help (and I don't think it will) but the hard drive is repaired and OK, then you can reinstall OS X by doing an Archive and Install which does not erase the drive:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
If the hard drive cannot be repaired then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall OS X.
