Apple TV Mirroring issues

I have a late 2012 MacBook Pro and a 3rd generation Apple TV, yet the Airplay/Mirroring icon is not displayed in my toolbar. I attempted to enable the airplay/mirroring feature by accessing System Preferences and going to the "Displays" settngs, only to find that it does not even give me the option of turning the airplay on and off. The menu that should be there is not displayed. This would eb expected if my MacBook Pro did not support Mirroring, but since it is a late 2012 model, it is supposed to work... or so I thought.

Hello travien,
It sounds like you are not able to access the AirPlay Mirroring icon on your MacBook Pro.  According to the article below a MacBook Pro (late 2012) does meet the minimum system requirements for AirPlay Mirroring, but you will also need to be running Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) on your system.  You can find more information about the requirements for AirPlay Mirroring here:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X Mountain Lion
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you are meet all the system requirements for AirPlay Mirroring, but you still do not see the AirPlay icon, I recommend reviewing the section titled "If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear" in the following article (the article refers to Mac computers and iOS devices, so you can skip any steps that refer to an iOS device):

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Apple TV Mirror display issue

I am currently using a 3rd Gen Apple TV with a late 2013 iMac. I can connect to AirPlay display and it automatically connects to "extended display" and the TV screen goes black however I get no options to use as a secondary display. When I click "Mirror display" nothing happens. I have tested on a later Macbook Pro, iPad Mini and iPhone 5 and everything works fine. Both computers are up to date and using OS X Yosemite.

  • Apple tv mirroring stops working

I just installed my new Bell modem SageMCom 2684 and my Apple TV mirroring stopped working properly--it freezes in less than a minute when I mirror a MacBook Pro.  My TV, Apple TV, & Bell modem are relatively close. I disabled  WMM, but no luck. I connected my old router to the modem & connected the Mac & aTV to the same wireless network, but the performace remained bad.  I updated aTV's software, but no luck.  Is this really a a Wi-Fi network problem, or an issue with Apple devices???  Thanks.

  • Yosemite still broke Apple TV mirroring

Updating Apple TV software doesn't solve the mirroring issue in iMac. Several days later, mirroring problem comes back in iMac.
Apple left a stink bug in Yosemite. I will file a bug report to Yosemite again. If anyone experience the same issue, please file a bug report in Yosemite feedback. Thanks!

My 2013 MBA is fine. But 2013 iMac can't choose mirroring.
I did another test. I have display link USB graphic adapter. If I plugin it into iMac, I can choose mirroring any of display. But once I unplug it, I can't choose mirroring any more.
This is definitely serious regression BUG.

  • Apple TV mirror reverts back to iPad

Apple TV mirror reverts back to iPad every few minutes. Is there a fix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Apple TV connectivity issues

Hi, I have just purchased one of the third generation Apple TV's and connected it to my home netowork, I have a new Macbook Air running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8. As soon as I connected my laptop to my home network via wi-fi I will get a prompt to enter my Apple TV password, if I cancel this the prompt will continue to pop up every so often. If I do enter the password and then open the display preferences tab I cannot change the Apple TV mirroring tab to indicate that Apple TV is selected - the laptop screen is however mirrored on a network connected TV.
Another issue is that when both the Apple TV and laptop are connected to the network any audio from the laptop is directed towards Apple TV - whether or not the password has been entered. To over come this I have to enter the display preferences and toggle Airplay mirroring between Apple TV and Off (as explained, Off always remained checked whether Apple TV isactually working or not).
The Appe TV and the Network connection appear to be fine as both my iPhone and iPod will connect as disconnect as they should. Has anyone else had similar problems with Mountain Lion, if so any suggestions as to how to fix this issue would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jason,
I have been beating my head against a wall for some time now on Apple TV issues.  After replacements, swapping ATVs between rooms, I finally deduced it was NOT my Apple TV, Router, or iMac.... my wireless sound bar is to blame.
I only came to this conclusion last night (late at night).  I had just gotten the ATV replaced by Apple.  Worked great for a day and then would not work at all. I would browse the library, and it would attempt to playback, but would endless buffer some movies, while it would eventually play others.  MOvies from iCloud were very erratic and the really odd thing is Netflix and Hulu would work every time, HD or SD.
My Router is an AirPort Extreme and I tried setting up a 5GHZ network and that didnt eliminate the issue.  I am somewhat thinking its wireless interference because the Apple TV that was in my living room would stream fine over WiFi and Ethernet, but would not stream in my bedroom.  Also both AppleTVs (the one I bought and the replacement I got) for the bedroom would play back just fine over ethernet.  It just would not over WiFi.  So I am fairly certain it is wireless interference of some sort from the soundbar/sub.
I still have a ways to go.  BUt you may look around the room and consider other devices that may be causing you a similar issue.  It was a stroke of luck that I decided to shut off my soundbar and see if that was the cause.  Turns out it is.  I just dont know what to do about it, aside from running another ethernet line into my bedroom.  Which also means I need to add a switch to my network to add the ethernet ports, which ***** as it may cause me other network issues such as routing, NATing, IP conflicts, etc....

  • Apple tv streaming issues with netflix

    Can anyone help ?
I have also used my apple tv for using my netflix streaming, for some reason i can access all the movies but when i click to watch them it states an error has occurred. I have now started using my wii u to access netflix and i have no issues. I havent changed any settings on my apple tv.

Yes, I'm having the exact same issue since the latest update. I thought it was my internet connection but it worked perfectly fine in my ipad and macbook air.
I also have 2 Apple TV's and the problem is in both of them. I really hope apple fixes this issue ASAP.
In the meantime, if you wanna watch your netflix content on your apple tv with good streaming and you have an iPad/iPhone with netflix on it. I recommend Airplay mirroring the iOS device and then opening netflix, it will airplay the video content and the iphone/ipad screen will function as a remote control with all the settings and stuff...its kinda cool...the only bad thing is that you can't turn off the iPad/iPhone screen or it will pause the movie.
i hope this works for you while apple fixes this issue.

  • Apple tv mirroring doesn't work with ipad 2

Apple tv mirroring doesn't work with ipad 2 and last update achieved

you have to be sure that you have iOS 4.4 on your Apple TV. Apple pulled 4.4 due to problems and hasen't re-released it yet. the only way now is to hook it up to your computer with a micro USB cable and then in iTunes you should see your Apple TV and do a restore and it will then put 4.4 on the Apple TV but it will wipe out all your settings and you will have to do all that over again but mirroring will then work.

iOS 7.0.3 did not fix the mirroring issue with ATVs and AirServer.  Anyone have an idea what needs to be done?  The only solution we have found is to reboot the iPad.  We don't have the option of restarting the wireless as so many people are on and it would further disrupt classes.

  • Apple Promotes Mirroring to Apple TV from iPod. Why?

I've seen plenty of answers to questions about how to mirror iPod content to Apple TV; the answers are it is not possible.  Apparently this is true (I have both devices and cannot mirror my iPod to my Apple TV either).
Here's the rub:  Apple promotes mirroring of iPod content to Apple TV on their Apple TV page:  http://www.apple.com/appletv/airplay/
Perhaps some Apple Corporation Guru would like to tell me how else to interpret the content of this linked page?

I read over that web page you linked us to and I don't see any reference that would lead me to believe that iPods support AirPlay Mirroring to the Apple TV. Here's the fine print of that article.
    1. AirPlay is available on all devices running iOS 4.3 or later. Some features require the latest software. Second-generation Apple TV or later required.
2.AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later; iPhone 4S; iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer) with Mountain Lion.
    3. Dual screen is available with iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S.
After reading that lets break it down. Number 1 is about devices that support AirPlay, it's close but not the same as AirPlay Mirroring. Number 2 outlines what devices support AirPlay Mirroring to the Apple TV and unfortunately the iPod is not on the list. Number 3 doesn't matter to the original post so we'll skip it.
Sorry friend, I hope that helps solve the riddle.
