Apple TV, mirroring, wireless cam...

I have a newer iMac and recently purchased AppleTV.  I would essentially like to video conference from my living room via mirroring AppleTV and my iMac (which is in an adjacent room) but cant really understand how I could use an external cam from the living room, wirelessly through the AppleTV.  Can I use the microUSB and just plug in a cam or should I set up an ip cam and run it through the wifi?  Any advice would be grately appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

The micro usb port is only for restoring purposes. Airplay mirroring is simply sending the iMac's display to your Apple TV and would not be accepting any stream from the cam.

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

  • Apple tv mirroring stops working

I just installed my new Bell modem SageMCom 2684 and my Apple TV mirroring stopped working properly--it freezes in less than a minute when I mirror a MacBook Pro.  My TV, Apple TV, & Bell modem are relatively close. I disabled  WMM, but no luck. I connected my old router to the modem & connected the Mac & aTV to the same wireless network, but the performace remained bad.  I updated aTV's software, but no luck.  Is this really a a Wi-Fi network problem, or an issue with Apple devices???  Thanks.

If it's taking awhile to load it could be due to slow network speed or interference. It's around 600MB. If on ethernet, some have reported issues, try wifi.

  • My apple tv mirroring is slow.  So slow it shuts off.  Any thoughts on cause?  I use this device in my office for presentations without a problem.  In my home with a stronger wifi router, I'm having issues.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Trouble setting up wireless cameras with airport extreme

I am trying to set up my alarm dot com wireless cameras and am having trouble getting them to connect to my Airport Extreme. With my prior D-Link router, there was no issue, but since upgrading to the Extreme, I can get them to locate the network, but not connect.

Add me to the list of people with Netgear DM111P ADSL modem and AEBS(n)...I can connect fine to the internet directly from MB Pro to modem, and for the last couple months have used the Netgear with my trusty AEX, no problem.
Now I finally get my AEBS from Canada (here in Dubai, UAE) and I have wasted hours trying to get on the internet with the AEBS. I have it configured exactly the same as the AEX is! One works fine, the other not at all. Exasperating.
I am using the Netgear with PPPoA Bridging (the correct setting for the ISP here and what works with the AEX and direct connection). The AEBS shows it is getting the IP correctly and has a solid green light. My MB Pro shows it is getting an IP from the AEBS's DHCP server. And shows entries for the DNS servers.
Yet..no internet. From the number of complaints with this exact same setup...it ain't me...I have used and configured over a dozen routers and modems from all major manufacturers, used DSL/ADSL/cable, PPPoe, PPPoA, etc etc...and I'm stumped.
This is NOT a typical Mac product. I am not happy. If someone figures this out, you will have my admiration.

Yes, I've been using it for months. And I can charge other devices with it. (my iPhone) but something weird just happened..... I kept on pluging it in the iPod and sometimes it would start to chàrge then sometimes it won't charge. Charges every time with the iPhone though.

  • How do I set up WRT54G router with 4 computers and WVC54GC Wireless Camera

Can anyone please tell me how to set up my Home Network with full security turned on?
I have at least 4 neighbors that show up on my wireless connections list. I have a daughter that loves music and is constantly downloading viruses but only on one wireless connection. The rest of us want to be protected from that computer. My system consists of the following:
    One Linksys WRT54G Router
Two Linksys WMP54G Wireless PCI adapters,
Two Linksys WVC54GC Wireless Cameras  (Possibility four if the 1st two ever work OK.)
Two Linksys LNE100TX PCI Ethernet Cards,
    One HP Ethernet Printer
Three computers were connected by Ethernet cable and one was wireless. I did not change the admin password and I thought everything was working fine for a couple of years until I found that the wireless computer was acting as a “drone” and slowing everything down to a snails pace.  It could even turn itself on.
I changed one of the Ethernet computers to wireless and decided that it might be time to also change the password and increase security.  Setting up security completely shutdown the wireless drone computer. I was OK with that, at least until I can reformat that harddrive.
I then decided while I was at it, I would add a wireless camera (WVC54GC). I set it up using the software and Ethernet cable that came with it. After 6 tries I finally got the camera to work with the cable attached, but it does not work wireless and now none of the other computers connect any more. Is there a limit on how many connections? Should I reset the router and if so, do I disconnect the DSL modem? I’m afraid of the “drone” computer because I found some very bad malware on it. One in particular caused me to replace a hard drive.
I’ve read page after page of network stuff on the Internet and I guess I just don’t know how to ask the right questions. I’m tired of fooling with this.

hi , when u talk about security , are u referring to the "viruses" your daughters PC may be propogating to the rest of the network , or are u referring to external attacks on the router or your wireless PC"s ???
In case u are referring to the "virus" attacks , the best you can do is install a good antivirus software on all PC"s and keep the virus definations updated....
In case u are referring to the wireless security , i'd suggest that your use WPA2 personal. you can select WPA2 by going to the "wireless security" option.
let me know if u need anything more.

  • Not getting e-mails from wireless cam in Windows 8 Mail App

Please forgive me if this is not being asked in the correct forum.  I could not find another place that seemed to fit.  Feel free to move it if necessary.
I have two Linksys Wireless IP Cameras.  Both are configured to detection motion and send an e-mail with 5 pictures to my Live.com e-mail address.
This configuration has been working for over 1 year and works.  To verify, I get e-mails from the both cameras when I use Internet Explorer and login to http:// mail.live.com  with my live.com (aka Hotmail) email account.
I upgraded to Windows 8, logged on the very first time with my Microsoft Live account.  From all appearances, it looks like the Windows 8 Mail App was configured to use my live.com e-mail account.  There are message there that I see when I login via
    Internet Explorer.
The problem is, I never ever get any of the emails that were sent from my Wireless Cameras in the Windows 8 Mail app.
If I sign in to my live.com email account via Internet Explorer those messages are there.  As a test, while I was looking at one of my emails via Internet Explorer, I forwarded it to myself.  That message with pictures and all did arrive in the Windows
    8 Mail app.
So, does anyone have any ideas why the Windows 8 Mail app does not get the e-mails sent from my Wireless Cameras?
    Thanks,
    Erik

Normally I do use IE to check my email.  I want to use the new stuff.  Note that the camera is stand alone and not connected to any computers.  It is a wireless IP camera and is configured to send e-mail when it detects motion.  Linksys
has told me that in general, the camera is compatible with Windows 8 but there are no drivers to plug it in directly to a computer with Window 8.
You stated that you suspect that the mail app does not support the function.  I'm not sure what you mean by that.  It is a mail application and should present me with any incoming e-mails to my account regardless of where they come from.
I know that the camera is working because I can see the message via IE in Windows 8 and in the Mail App on my Windows Phone 7.
So, if the Windows 8 Mail app does not support the function, why I can view one of the e-mails from my camera using IE in Windows 8 and then forward it to myself at the same e-mail address and then the forwarded message arrives with all the pictures
attached and is viewable in Windows 8 mail app.
I have also setup my camera to send e-mail to my work account.  At work we have Exchange and I use Outlook 2010.  I get the messages from the camera in that program without any problems.
I also get the message using the Windows Phone 7 Mail App.
I just can't understand why the Windows 8 mail app is ignoring or blocking message that are coming from my cameras.

  • I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network

I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network so the Apple TV can do home share.

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.  To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open.  It also needs to be on the same network.  My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not.  He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band.  Hope this helps.

You will have to do the update manually for the app store version. Instructions are here:

(that's for 6.6 but the steps/file paths are the same for 6.7)

  • Apple tv mirroring doesn't work with ipad 2

Apple tv mirroring doesn't work with ipad 2 and last update achieved

you have to be sure that you have iOS 4.4 on your Apple TV. Apple pulled 4.4 due to problems and hasen't re-released it yet. the only way now is to hook it up to your computer with a micro USB cable and then in iTunes you should see your Apple TV and do a restore and it will then put 4.4 on the Apple TV but it will wipe out all your settings and you will have to do all that over again but mirroring will then work.

  • Original Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter gives warning

I have a 4th generation iPad with iOS 7.1 and the original Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter bought online from the US Apple Store. Whenever I plug it in the iPad I get this warning: 'This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPad.' If I close the iPad cover and leave it for a few minutes, when I unlock it and go to the Settings<General<About page the cck is listed. I tried the lightning usb adapter on an iPad with iOS 6 and it was immediately recognized. Is this a software problem or a faulty camera adapter?

The original Camera Connection Kit uses a 30-pin connector thile the iPad 4 has a lightning connector. You mention an adapter. Are you using an original Apple-branded adapter? I have seen other posts here that say it is likely this adapter that is causing the problem.
Using the Lightning connectors do no cause this problem.

  • Apple Promotes Mirroring to Apple TV from iPod. Why?

I've seen plenty of answers to questions about how to mirror iPod content to Apple TV; the answers are it is not possible.  Apparently this is true (I have both devices and cannot mirror my iPod to my Apple TV either).
Here's the rub:  Apple promotes mirroring of iPod content to Apple TV on their Apple TV page:  http://www.apple.com/appletv/airplay/
Perhaps some Apple Corporation Guru would like to tell me how else to interpret the content of this linked page?

I read over that web page you linked us to and I don't see any reference that would lead me to believe that iPods support AirPlay Mirroring to the Apple TV. Here's the fine print of that article.
    1. AirPlay is available on all devices running iOS 4.3 or later. Some features require the latest software. Second-generation Apple TV or later required.
2.AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later; iPhone 4S; iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer) with Mountain Lion.
    3. Dual screen is available with iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S.
After reading that lets break it down. Number 1 is about devices that support AirPlay, it's close but not the same as AirPlay Mirroring. Number 2 outlines what devices support AirPlay Mirroring to the Apple TV and unfortunately the iPod is not on the list. Number 3 doesn't matter to the original post so we'll skip it.
Sorry friend, I hope that helps solve the riddle.
