Apple TV Missing PAL format settings

Hi everybody
sorry, may be this is dummy question, but I don't found answer to it. I bought Apple TV from USA and I want use it on standard CRT PAL TV with composite RGB input. Problem is, in settings I found only 3 resolution 1080, 720 and 480 (NTSC) rows, but I need use it with PAL (570) resolution. I found nothing about there is exist version only for US market. On every forums I found info, that all ATV know both resolution NTSC and PAL. May somebody provide me some info or help about this, please. But please don't answer me something like "buy new TV" or "call online support" (funny is, they answer me like "We don't know", sad was this answer I got from support from USA,UK,Germany,Slovakia and Hugary ).
Please help me.

AppleTV has component output via red/green/blue cables, but not composite, I suspect that's what you mean.
All my AppleTV's running over HDMI have variably had options for 480 i/p, 576 i/p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p with some of the HD reolutions offered at 50Hz for PAL users though in practice I don't think it matters much. The options under HDMI have varied a bit from software to software version which has affected HDMI communications.
That should not affect component as the signal is passive analogue
I assume your TV is standard def and can handle 576 i/p via component.
PAL/NTSC is less important with modern TV's but will potentially be with older sets.
Have you set your country correctly, or if yours isn't listed try UK or something for a PAL region - I don't know if it makes any difference but country might affect display output options over component in that if HDMI connection isn't detected it offers PAL or NTSC depending on country.
You might well get away with 480 p setting if your TV can handle it anyway as AppleTV will up/downscale material for the output setting.
If the tV is non-widescreen, AppleTV will not be adjustable for teh 4:3 aspect ratio and you'd have to rely on any TV adjustments.

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.

  • Tape with Unkown Format - What Apple Pro Res 422 Codec settings to use?

    Hello All:
Someone gave me a couple tapes with interesting footage to use. Is there a way to determine the tape format settings so I can select the correct codec setting to use in capturing the tapes? There are a lot of choices. These are MiniDV tapes but, I don't know anything more about the cameras used or settings selected by the person taping.
    Any ideas?

Thanks evertyone! For any following this thread, from a combo of sources, here is the answer (worked for me, anyhow):
    1-verify deck recognition by computer:
-W/deck on, choose Apple menu > About This Mac >> and press the More Info...
-From System Profiler select FireWire. Look to see if the deck is listed.
If not, you're done => there's a problem w/ the cable, firewire ports (computer or deck), or with the deck. If it's identified, go to step 2.
2-check all settings on the deck and in FCP
    On the Deck:
    - be sure the iLINK CONV is set: OFF
-if iLink Conv is already OFF then check FCP settings:
FCP menu > Easy Setup and select HDV 1080i from the selections available
-finally, in View menu choose Refresh A/V Devices
Open Log and Capture .... deck should be recognized.

  • Mix NTSC and PAL format

    hello guys..
I just did some motion graphics videos in NTSC format using after effects. I know this is my mistake because I live in Indonesia and Indonesia uses PAL format for broadcasting but I used NTSC My office bought a camera in PAL format and I want to mix videos from that camera with my motion graphs videos. What should I do? Which sequence settings that I work with?

I diagree about HTSC being the best standard.  We jest that it stands for Not Twice ame Colour, whilst PAL - Perhaps Almost Lifelike.  IMHO, and that of BBC engineers some years ago, broadcast PAL wiped the floor with NTSC - it was ghastly colour.  The fact that it has 4 more fgrames a second is hardly a reason to use it.
Field Options allow you to select which line you want to display first in interlaced material - see below...  This is not an issue with material such as 208p25, as it is not interlaced.

  • Best format/settings for photos to a slideshow

What would be the optimal format/settings of a photo going to a slideshow in DVDSP? I have the camera RAW files and can go out to any format or resolution necessary.
I have tried a few combinations. The best outcome has been a 600 ppi TIFF. But the main problem I am having is some rastering around the edges and in the details of the image. It is a product shot on a white background. I am working in FCS 2. Thanks.

Usually you are best off bringing it in at the size needed and not let DVD SP do the resizing (but of course many people have different approaches so keep that in mind)
Not sure if you have Photoshop, but there are templates (in the newer versions) for NTSC and PAL and the various sizes (Anamorphic etc.)
Place you pictures in there and crop/size as needed and save as a tiff.

does anyone know if quicktime pro 7 will di what i want or what i need to reach my goal?

Even the free version of QT Player allows you to "copy" frames. These could be "pasted" into a new blank using any image editing software.
What ever frame is showing when you stop playback will be the one copied. More control by using the right left arrow keys.
The Pro upgrade can export a frame to many image formats. It doesn't matter that the format is PAL. NTSC and PAL are TV playback settings. Your computer doesn't care.

  • How do I export a PAL format dvd into i movie

I have a dvd of my Vegas holiday that is in PAL format and I have no idea how to get it onto i move.  I am a newbie to Apple so laymans terms would be helpful to let me know what to do.
    Cheers Newbie

Perfectly reasonable request! We all start out knowing nothing, then hope to learn a little every day!
So, let's start by why you have to convert: a DVD is in a compresed format called mpeg2, which is standard across all DVDs. This is what is known as a 'final delivery format' and is not suitable for editing. Because is is compressed, a 4.7GB DVD can hold a two hour movie (dual layer DVDs twice that), whereas the DV stream from a video camera, which runs at about 13GB per hour, is not compressed and IS intended for editing.
In other words you have to 'reverse engineer' the DVD back to an uncompressed format in ordfer to edit it. There is a penalty for doing this in terms of slight quality loss, but it is one you can live with.
When you have your DVD as an icon on your desktop, double-click it, and it will open to reveal a TS-Folder containing a number of various files, some called VOB. These are the constituent parts of any video DVD.
When you have downloaded and installed mpegStreamclip, and purchased and installed the Apple mpeg2 plugin, open mpegStreamclip and drag the entire TS Folder into its window. Then using the various menus available to you (just explore them and you will get the hang of it) ask it to convert to DV.
That DV file, which will be many times larger than the original TS Folder, and which can a while to create (be patient - make coffee or prune the roses!) is what you can now import into iMovie for editing etc.
When you have finished doing that, you then have to turn the project back into a DVD.
I don't know what version of iMovie you have, but this should help:

  • OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable?

OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable to be connected the iPhone to the TV, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable? Al this transcoding afterwards takes a lot to much time. Is there a solution before sending the clips?

Well, thanks a lot.  iMovie '11 is similar, but not identical and unfortunately I don't seem to find any "Frame Rate Pop-Up menu" when I generate a new Project. Do not find an "Aspect Ratio Pop-Up" either. Also the help does not speak of this options.  I just have to choose a Theme and that's it. Also the "Settings" Menu for the Film does not help.
I also checked the general settings for iMovie:
So I would dare say, there is actually no possibility anymore, to set the output format. And also when I create the output file, there is nothing more than a short list of resolutions.
I do not understand why all options were taken away. I admit, I am a little disappointed.
    Best regards

  • Chapter markers in PAL format

When I share my PAL format iMovie project to iDVD, a DVD in NTSC format results. So I share to Quicktime using the custom settings as advised in the Help menu to get a PAL formatted DVD, but in the process I lose all the chapter markers. I can find no reference to this problem...any ideas please?

The problem arises when I export an iPhoto slideshow. This produces a Quicktime clip, with the only options refer to resolution, no way to specify Pal. Should have made this clear before, but I have only just realised that this is what is causing the problem. (I export it to iMovie in order to add voiceover and chapter markers.)

  • PAL Format

I'm new to MACs and have just tried making a DVD of my mother-in-law's 70th birthday party. (You have to look after the mother-in-law). When I created the project in iMovie it doesn't allow me to create it in PAL format, it just defaults to NTSC. PAL is not even listed in the video format (I was importing video clips previously saved on the mac). When I share it with iDVD as soon as I try to burn to a DVD it tells me there's a TV Standard conflict. How do I create a new project in PAL format?

    Ponder
    Welcome to "Discussions".
Have you looked at your iMovie PREFERENCES ?
I work in the PAL format. I can tell you that in iMovie 4, you have a choice in "preferences" between PAL or NTSC.
If you have inadvertently created a Movie in NTSC, you won't be able to convert it to PAL in iMovie.
One thing you may have to watch is that when you create a "new project", iMovie may default to NTSC. In that case, you have to go to PREFERENCES, change "new project settings are" to PAL... close the iMovie project and open it again, and double check that the format is PAL. That is my experience with it.
I hope this will help and that I am adressing your concern correctly. I have been playing with iMovie for a couple of years now and am still "learning" and discovering. I think it's a fantastic tool. The first thing I did was to print the sections of the "HELP" pages I was interested in and studied them ... one at a time! There is a lot to absorb ! Incidently, I am not an expert in these matters !!!
