Apple TV Movie Rentals UK

I have a dumb question.
I understand that the UK is gonna get movies, long after USA, but I just wondered if there is anywhere online we can express an interest in certain movies, just so Apple can pressure the studio's to allow them to be sold over here.
For example, in the states you guys (and gals) have access to all the Pixar movies, yet we in the UK only have 2.
We have none of the Die Hard series, only 1 Bourne movie, etc.
I understand that we are at the whim of the studio's as to when movies will be made available over here. But if we had a way of highlighting to them what movies we're interested in seeing, then it should ease their decision on when to release over here.
Just a thought.

And you know what, while I'm here, what's the deal with the price difference between Apple TV in US and the Apple TV in the UK?? (the device not the movie rentals / purchases)
When the US movie rental service was announced they dropped the US price significantly. This has not happened in the UK which is a shame, particularly with the Take 2.0 interface being extrenely iTunes Store centric vs the previous interface which was designed around your media in iTunes (purchased or home made).
For a device that's almost 18 month old, I think the price is starting to look rather high now that it's gone from a media extender (which is still is, and a great one) to a rent/buy online from Apple type sales pitch.
The economic climate isn't great, and if people are short of cash then from a rental perspective £200 up front for the privilege of renting from your armchair is steep, and they'll keep going to blockbuster or wherever and save the £200.
I personally think that AppleTv's a very sophisticated device for the price, but when people these days regard a DVD player for £20 from Asda as good value, then justifying £200 for an AppleTV isn't really going to happen for the average man on the street.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

  • Why is Apple TV movie rentals to expensive?  I love my Apple TV, but I can go down the street and get 4 Movies for the price of one rental on Apple TV. Apple should reduce the price of movies rentals to $1.00

Why is Apple TV movie rentals to expensive?
I love my Apple TV, but I can go down the street and get 4 Movies at Redbox for the price of one rental on Apple TV.
Apple should reduce the price of movies rentals to $1.00!!!

Forgive me if my solution to your problem is oversimplistic, but if the movies are too expensive for you, don't buy them.

  • Apple TV Movie Rentals In ITALY !

Hello to all, if you know when apple will extend its movie rental service in Italy?
    THX

This is a user-to-user forum. No one here would know the answer to that question. The people who do know the answer probably aren't allowed to say.
    Best of luck.

  • Apple TV Movie Rental

I've rented two movies on Apple TV, and neither will play. "An error has occurred downloading this content" is the error message. Any idea how to fix? Is there a way to restart Apple TV? If not, how can I get the rental charge credited?

What have you done to troubleshoot? Have you successfully rented other movies?
I would not recommend renting more than one at a time.
You can verify connection at speedtest.net
    8mbps needed for instant 1080P
    6mbps for 720P
Can change to SD in the settings
Check istumbler.net or netstumbler for interference
Make sure you're using your ISPs DNS

  • Why is the apple tv movie rental list so awful?

Seriously, there's nothing good. There are bad movies from 1992 in the top 25.
    Am I doing something wrong?

UK. I hired two movies from my rental store today because there's nothing decent on apple.
Candyman 2 is the film of the week!
Aliens vs Predator is in the top 25!
This ***** so bad it's painful.
those stats are generated by user purchases/rental.
the available movies are dictated by the movie studios. complain to them if you are not happy with the movies available to you.
whether a movie is available for rent or not is a movie studio decision.
however not sure where you are looking as there are currently a lot of new releases available on the front page.

  • Apple TV movie rentals not working

I've rented a movie on Apple TV, it accepted the rental and when we tried to play the movie it said Apple TV was not authorized. I try to go rent the same movie again and it says its already rented but does not show up as a rental on screen. It's been working fine and now it won't work
I do not want to pay for movies I can't watch, any thoughts

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Try logging out of and then back into your iTunes store account.

  • Charged for an Apple TV Movie Rental that Never Downloaded!

A week ago or so my wife wanted to rent a movie on the Apple TV.  I attempted to rent it and kept getting an error message saying something about that we couldn't rent it at that time.  Well, we forgot about it and got back to our busy lives.  Well, today I get an email with the billing for that so called rental.  We never downloaded nor even watched the movie.  And now, I can't contact anyone to fix the billing problem!  The "Report a Problem" link in the email attempts to open the iTunes Store on my 4s then the phone says that It Can't Open the iTunes Store!  It refuses to open the Store!!!!  Really?  So then, I pulled up billing in iTunes on the PowerBook and found the rental and again clicked "Report a Problem".  Absolutely nothing happens...well, the Report a Problem disappears and that's it.  Can someone please remove this charge for a non-existant rental on my account?  Or at least tell me who to contact who can help me?

"So then, I pulled up billing in iTunes on the PowerBook and found the rental and again clicked "Report a Problem".  Absolutely nothing happens...well, the Report a Problem disappears and that's it!"
I did that! Shouldn't a dialogue box appear or something where I can give a description of the problem?

  • Issues with apple tv movie rentals

What is story with apple tv losing your rental if you click menu on the remote? You then have to log out of your itunes account, then log back in to find your rental. Then your rental starts back at the beginning. Cant this work better?

It usually does work better, this is something that has started recently for some users, I'm sure Apple are working on it.

  • HT1498 Apple TV movie rental with iTunes credit, doesn't work

I have topped up my iTunes account, but when I tried to rent a movie directly through Apple TV, it asked me about credit card details and would not accept payment with credit from iTunes. Why? Can I rent a movie directly on Apple TV using my iTunes credit?

Hi, I had the same problem. I changed countries on the Apple TV. This logged me out of my account. When I reverted back to my country and logged back in on the Apple TV, it worked (almost) without problem.

  • HT202157 Apple TV-movie rentals option.

I don't know why every weekend, that I decide to rent a movie on Apple TV, the connection is not complete.
I can see my purchased movies and TV shows. However, it is extremely frustrating, that I cannot connect to new movies to rent.
I don't get this. What is the problem.
I am a nice lady, who just wants to watch a movie!

There is a fault with iTunes and apple tv 1

  • Apple TV Movie rentals

Previously when renting a movie I have been able to view it multiple times within the 48 hours, now it seems to disappear after the first viewing, does anyone know why?

The rental library is growing very slowly. But at least it's growing. Interesting, there are quite a number of classics and oldies popping up. Great for catching up on some on them.
One thing I noticed. The iTunes Store desktop and TV catalogues do not tally at all. What's available on TV is not available on iTunes Store. Not talking about HD stuff. Checked on the All Rentals and it's stuck at 19 pages for a very long time. Same goes for the All Movies at 38 pages. Basically what I'm saying is, the database is kinda screwy. Hope they fix it soon.
Hope you guys feedback to iTunes on putting up a website on all its movies, both purchases and rentals. Put up a RSS feed on new additions. iTunes app doesn't do RSS. Hope a website can do all this. For me, I rather download from iTunes Store than TV because I can move the movie around my devices. Hardly download HD movies - not worth spending the extra buck if the movie *****.

  • Apple tv2 movie rental cache drops off and won't finish downloading (not related to internet connection)

I'm having an issue with my apple tv2 when renting movies.  This isn't with home-sharing but just renting movies only with the apple tv.  We've done this with 10 or so movies up until the issue so it has worked in the past.
What happens is that the movie downloads to a certain point and then the cache bar goes immediately to the end of the progress bar like the whole movie is downloaded.  The movie will play to a certain point, say the 9 minute mark, and then the picture just freezes with no more sound but the progress bar tracker continues along like it's still playing.  This has happened on multiple movies now.
We've spoken to support about this and tried a variety of troubleshooting ideas.  Unplugged, reset, restored, updated firmware, etc. with no luck.  The download will restart but freezes at the exact second that it did before while showing that the cached download is complete.  We've checked the internet connection with other devices and there's no connection problem at all.  Reset the router as well for good measure but no change.
I know we can try renting and downloading on the computer first and then sharing with the apple tv but I would prefer to know why it's not working on the apple tv itself.
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks

Yeah, that's what we thought too so we got a refund (by using the report a problem link and explaining what happened) and tried a different movie with the same result.  Used the link again after the second movie didn't work and went through pretty much the same troubleshooting steps with them.
Basically the only solution offered so far has been to take it to a licensed apple retailer for them to take a look.
