Apple TV Multi Room Speaker

Is there a way to have mounted speakers in a multi room application for the Apple TV. I have wired the entire house just trying to figure out how to get Apple TV designated for each room. Any ideas?

Well i believe i have the system that you are kinda going for
Living Room: TV running through Samsung 40" TV with 5.1 home cinema System using Toslink Cable
Dining Room: AirPort Express running through Hi-fi System
Bedroom 1: TV Trough 26" tv with Cinema Sound Bar using Toslink Cable
Bedroom 2: TV Trough 23" tv with 2.1 Hifi System using Toslink Cable
Bedroom 3: TV Trough 23" tv
Kitchen: AirPort Express With Active 2.1 Speaker System
I Use my iPad to control every thing
I use my iMac if i wish to have the same music in every room using air play which I can level each volume though the iPad
Or i use each device individual to have different music/video playing which i can still control with my iPad
Hope this helps

  • Using Apple TV as a multi-room music server

I am trying to decide whether Apple TV is a good choice for use as a multi room wireless music server. I would rather use Apple TV than say Sonos because I like Apple TV's video capabilities. My decision is going to be largely based on Apple TV's/iTunes/Airtunes compatibility with my current 2 zone home theater system.
Right now the AV/wireless system looks like this:
-2 Zone Denon AV receiver wired to wall mounted speakers in the living room and kitchen/patio.
-Airport Extreme wired into cable modem
-Wall mounted speakers upstairs in bedroom (not connected to any amplifier)
    Ideally I want to add
-Apple TV wired to Denon receiver/TV w/ hdmi cable
-inexpensive AV receiver/amp in bedroom to power wall mounted speakers
-Airport Express jacked into receiver to stream iTunes library from Apple TV
    -Everything controlled with iPhone
    Questions:
    1. Will this work?
    2. Any idea what my best options for an inexpensive Airtunes friendly amp/receiver are?

BorrachoPix, An excellemt thread. Always good to know others doing or intending to set up same similar systems. So many options these days it takes a fair while going through them all. I ruled out Squeezebox as not being user friendly enough and was going the Sonos route untill Apple released the itouch remote app which changed everything and gave me an excuse to get an itouch into the bargin as well !!!!!
Have you though of using a pair of Active speakers instead of Amp and Speakers in the bedroom. Maybe the AudioEngine A2 or A5 Speakers.
Jask, I use to have the 3801 before changing to the 2807. Will probably do as you suggest and go optical and component video to the amp keeping the HDMI slots for SkyHD and the DVD player. I always find the Denon set up menu a bit of a nightmare but usually get there in the end.
Perhaps I should be thinking about an iMac for next year as well to complete the circle......just not sure I can justify the expense.

  • FIOS TV Multi Room DVR

Has anyone else been hung up on after - 10/24 my main tv screen goes blank and they send a replacement box - 10/29 upon return from business trip I learn that new box dropped all 27 hours of recorded programming and reflects no shows to record - this is contrary to the Represenation when I signed up in June - i was told multi room DVR would store this information if a box needed replacement - I plugged old box back in and informed technical support and billing that once i watched the 27 hours of recorded prorgammming I would leave if they would not give me two months free - Billing supervisor HUNG UP ON ME MID SENTENCE - I sat down for dinner after 60 minutes on the phone
when I turned TV back on screen is blank but I get sound - this was problem causing my wife to ask for new box - shipped  10/24
new technical support person said my blank screen meant my box was dead, duh that is why they sent new box in first place - new billing person offered me one day credit as it was first time I compained box was not working - she had no record of Oct 24 shipment of new box - Supervisor asked why I disconnected last call - Customer Retention Department in DC closes at 9pm - how ironic, I am offered direct line to call them in the AM between 8am and 9pm. - there is no way to get Customer Retention to actually speak with a customer directly about retaining them, the onus is on the customer to be retained.
Veriszon customer service is an oxymoron...

  • How to control volume in multi-room setup, with different tunes in each room?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of replacing my Squeezebox / SqueezeServer setup and have therefore bought two Apple TV's to experiment with.
I have a Windows Home Server on which I've installed iTunes 10.5 yesterday and I can (through RDC) use it to share music to the Apple TVs and even control the volume.
However, playing music this way is by no means what I was hoping for - I want to be able to play DIFFERENT tunes in DIFFERENT rooms.
Yes, that is possible through the use of my iPhone, using Remote to choose the iTunes server (the real server in this case).
But, and here's my issue - when playing different tunes in different rooms (using the Remote app connected to my iTunes server), how do I control the VOLUME for each Apple TV? Or should I play the different tunes for different rooms in a different way?
    Kind regards
    Niclas

    Thanks!
Yes I hope they develop either the Apple TV or Airport express or iTunes or all into a complete multi room music listening experience just like the Squeezebox / Sonos product range. They certainly have the possibility and they did try. Except they didn't make it all the way. It's fine to be able to play the same music in all rooms, but better still would be if I could play different music in different rooms AND change the volume without the need of an additional display or anything. The nice thing would be to have an airport express connected to a small amp with in-ceiling mounted speakers in e.g. the bathroom, the kids room etc. And the kids then control their own music, the bathroom has some rain forest sounds, but when I enter it, I change to the party music I was listening to in the living room, so as to get in the mood for tonights party... And when I'm ready in the bathroom, I switch back to the rain forest sound and one of the kids are so annoyed with the pumping bass from his brothers room, that he syncs to the same music, all the while I go into the kitchen and sync the kitchen with the living room and turn up the knob another notch or two.
This is the way my house works now and I can really see it work like that with Apples products, except they haven't done it all the way yet then. Too bad - I have only used the Apple TV's two days and started to like them.

  • New 500 GB DVR Multi Room Not working!

I received the new 500 GB DVR this past Friday and set it up over the weekend. I'm having issues with viewing the new content on the new DVR with other STBs.
I've tried rebooting all the boxes and unplug each one but still get the same message that There was error connecting to the DVR STB. It's almost like the boxes are trying to still access the previous DVR. I tried to submit to Verizon Support on Twitter and it's been 3 days without hearing back if they had a solution. They tell me the same cut and paste message they give everyone to DM them on Twitter and here is the link to the form but then you don't hear back at all.
Has anyone else experienced issues with the new 500 GB DVR and Multi Room access?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I switched from a 7216 MR-DVR to a 7232 and had tech support switch the MR feature to the new box, and have no problems. The STBs and DVRs talk to each other on their own little MoCA network. COAX or splitter issues can cause problems. Router not involved. I have MRDVR running and all routing functions are turned off on the Actiontec, and the the WAN ports are not even connected. The Actiontec is bridge LAN to MoCA. My router is a Linux box. The Actiontec does filter STB broadcast traffic from my LAN. It sees no MoCA traffic except for VOD and guide updates. All other UDP broadcast traffic is blocked on the bridge.
The hub errors people were seeing on the older 1.7 img were not HUB as in router related. The hub acts as the master on the MoCA network. Looking at the STB diagnostic menu D16 for "Connected Home" my DVR shows as the hub and is verified by the MAC address my Linux box assigns an IP address to. If you are having Multi Room DVR issues I can almost guarantee that it is not a router issue. Check and make sure you have good quality RG-6 coax and the proper splitter(s). Make sure there is no line loss or interference between the boxes. Also make sure Multi Room is assigned properly only to the DVR wanting to be the Multi Room DVR. It can not be assigned to more than one DVR. Now with the 1.9 image the rules may change, but I am not sure. Right now it is my understanding that only one DVR can be the HUB. Now that may be changing, we will need to wait and see. I believe it will change.
Now back to removing the old DVR and having Multi Room Enabled on your new DVR. You may want to have both DVRs connected so the feature can be disabled on the old DVR and enabled on the new. If you do not do this and reconnect the old DVR you may end up with two trying to act as HUBs. May not work well with 1.8. Not saying I know for sure, and my assumptions are only based on observations. But when I had Multi Room moved from old to new, both my DVRs were connected, and my system works great.

  • Multi-room DVR and DVR

I recently added a multi-room dvr to my FIOS package along with the current DVR I have had since original installation.   It doesn't seem they can share recordings between them.  They are acting like DVRs, but tried a few combinatoins of recording and neither one sees recordings from the other.  Is this a problem with my installation or configuration, or do I need a STB instead of a DVR to use multi-room DVR?
    Thanks,

When you get the new IMG 1.9a update you will be able to share.  Earlier versions do not support DVR to DVR streaming.

  • Multi-Room DVR Questions - switching to Fios

I am getting ready to make the switch to Verizon Fios and have lots of questions.
I am going to get  a Multi-Room DVR and either 2 or 3 set-top boxes.
    I have 4 tv's:  A -Main (Living room) TV is STD-Def,  B - Bedroom TV  is Hi-Def 1080p,  C - Bedroom TV is 720P, D - Other TV - STD Def .
    1. Does it matter which TV I hook up the Multi-Room DVR to?
    2. Can I record in STD-Def and then  play back on the Hi-Def TV?
    3. Can  I record in Hi-Def and and then play back on the STD-Def TV?
    4.  Are the STB's the same for STD-Def and HD (in case I want to swich where I have the DVR)?
4a. If not, is ther a charge if I change the box from STD to HD?
    5. Will I be able to watch any channels on a TV that has no STB or DVR?
    6. What DVR functions are available on the STB's?
Play, Pause, FF, Rew? What about controlling the recording of shows?
    9. Is there a "higher capacity" Multi-room DVR, and how do I get one?
    7. What is the capacity of the multi-room DVR?
    8. Can I add an external hard drive?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. Does it matter which TV I hook up the Multi-Room DVR to?  No it does not.
    2. Can I record in STD-Def and then  play back on the Hi-Def TV? Yes
    3. Can  I record in Hi-Def and and then play back on the STD-Def TV? Yes but will be in a smaller box in the middle of the screen
    4.  Are the STB's the same for STD-Def and HD (in case I want to swich where I have the DVR)? Verizon only uses HD boxes now and will work with SD televisions.  Verizon used to have SD boxes and last time I checked still had the basic SD terminal adapters -- these adapters do not support the guide or other expanding STB features including remote DVR access or on-Demand.
4a. If not, is ther a charge if I change the box from STD to HD? N/A
    5. Will I be able to watch any channels on a TV that has no STB or DVR? If your TV has a QAM digital tuner you can watch the local stations only (channels 2-49)
    6. What DVR functions are available on the STB's? You can pause and rewind live TV. You can set up a schedule to record all your favorite shows in advance so you don't have to set it back up every week. You can extend recording at the begining or end of show. You can set priority of shows incase there is a scheduling conflict. You can set a show to be protected so its only erased if you manually erase it. You can set how many episodes to keep. You can set whether to record either new episodes, repeats, or both.  Pause and rewind live TV feature is on the DVR box only, not on the other STB's.  You can pause and rewind DVR playback on these other boxes, but not live TV.   Note also that you need to be in an area which has the newer IMG 1.9 to be able to setup recordings from remote STB's and/or extend a recording as these are new features in IMG 1.9.
    9. Is there a "higher capacity" Multi-room DVR, and how do I get one? If you are not provided one at installation (depends if they are in stock or not) it can be ordered from out htttp://verizon.com/fiostvcentral website
It costs an additional $40 to order a 500 GB DVR if one is not provided at time of installation. I would hold out for one at that time so you don't have to pay the $40. You may be able to forgo the $40 upcharge if you can take your 160 GB DVR to a Verizon store and exchange it there (it they have the 500 GB DVR to exchange).  I would ask for the 500GB DVR at installation and make sure they can provide it before accepting it.
    7. What is the capacity of the multi-room DVR? 160gb for existing DVR 500gb for expanded DVR
    8. Can I add an external hard drive? The set top boxes running IMG 1.9 have this capability. 1.9 is still in its initial stages of deployment and not in most areas.
I hope this answers your questions you had.

  • FIOS TV Multi Room DVR Video On Demand errors

I recently activated FIOS TV (already had FIOS Internet and Freedom phone) and received 5 STBs (1-QIP7216-1 DVR, two HD STBs a second HD DVR (QIP-6400 and a standard def STB) connected via COAX (MoCA) to an Actiontec Gen2 wireless router. Since the TV service install 1 month ago I have been on the phone with FIOS tech support at least a dozen times trying to resolve intermitent internet connectivity problems and most recently issues with FIOS TV features (i.e. Video on demand and multi-room DVR configurations). The Video on Demand issues would manifest as VOD_6 (request timeouts). Each time I worked with tech support to reset the router, power off the STB, etc and sometimes the VOD service would activate.
Last week VOD failed again and the FIOS tech I spoke to was havnig difficulties remotely connecting to my STBs (a common situation from previous tech support calls). He dispatched a technician to visit my home to check DB levels for each of my STBs. The field tech arrived two days ago and brought a new QIP7216-1 and a new router. It took over an hour for him to get them working even with help from remote support (they couldn't "see" the STBs). Once they were able to flush out the issues, he departed but unfortunately he left without enabling the multi-room DVR functionality. I called FIOS support yesterday and the remote technician had significant difficulties getting the "system" to recognize my configuration and he eventually broke off our call so he could escalate to Video support. He called me back hours later once he felt that they had resolved all the configuration issues and when I checked everything seemed to be working.
This morning I tried to program my DVD from my Verizon cellphone (this was working last week) and the DVR displayed a message that my account was not authorized. I called into FIOS support and the automated service attempted repair which included a "reload" of the STB firmware. Once the automated system felt I should be able to continue I noticed that the Video on Demand error VOD_5 happened when I tried to select it and now the option for Remote DVR programming is nolonger available on any menu!
I called back to tech support and the technician had me unplug and restart the STB but he was having issues remotely accessing the STB. He broke off the call explaining that he needed to escalate to Video Networking specialists and I'm awaiting his call back.
I am wondering if my experience is common and whether someone else has encountered (and resolved) these frustrating issues. I can't believe that Verizon expects users to have to re-boot routers and STBs anytime a feature is accessed. Hopefully one of the Verizon employees who monitor these forums can see some commonality and suggest a course of action that will bring relief. I have spent more hours troubleshooting my configuration than I've enjoyed the entertainment offerings, Please help!

    Hi gr8scot,
Since my original post I can attest that I've made it through 2 weeks without any error messages or unavailable features (fingers and toes crossed) . I can identify with your frustration and hope that once they exorcise the demons from your configuration (if you hang on) it seems that eventually the solution stabilizes.
In my case I found some help by contacting the Verizon Customer Relations team at 800-483-7988. Once I got these folks engaged I can say that my blood pressure returned to lower levels as they were in daily communications with me until I was satisfied that my issues were resolved.
It's unfortunate that it had to get to that point for me (and for you too) but it was fairly apparent that something about my equipment configuration was confused within the Verizon FIOS provisioning applications (my issues seem to have developed around the time of any equipment or service changes). I spoke to some very dedicated and personable FIOS tech support agents (unfortunately I actually got to know them very well after spending hours on the phone). It was clear to me that they were doing the best that they could and the issues were way above their toolset and my big beef was the lack of communication that happened once the first level folks had to pass the problem off to either the "network group" or the developers.
Good luck and hope we both can eventually get to enjoy our entertainment systems.

  • New to FIOS TV Multi-room DVR - Should I be able to use DVR functions from the other HD STBs?

We just converted from Directv (three DVRs) to FIOS TV and am hoping I didn't make a huge mistake: The sales agent I spoke to said that the Multi-room DVR (Motorola QIP-7216-1) and non-DVR STB would enable me to get the same features I had with my Directv setup so each user could Stop/Start/Record programming from their own remote. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can only perform DVR control functions from the real DVR. I can view recorded programming on the non-DVR STBs but pressing record for a live broadcast or trying to select a show to record from the guide doesn't work.
I have the ActiontecGen2 MOCA connected MI424WR router, three HD STBs (Motorola 7000), one standard definition STB and the DVR.

As you've found, you can only create recordings from the DVR.  If you want each room to have the ability to schedule recordings, then you need a separate DVR in each room.
The FiOS Motorola DVRs cannot access recordings stored on other DVRs.

  • Why isn't there an option to record future shows using the HD box linked to a Multi room DVR setup?

I have a multi room DVR in my livingroom and HD boxes in my 2 bedrooms. Currently if you are viewing a program on one of the HD boxes you are able to record the live program you are viewing as the HD box will enable your DVR to record that show.
Why hasn't FIOS enabled the settop boxes that are part of a multi room DVR setup to be able to record future shows? Needless to say, if I am lying in bed at night and see something in the program guide airing at a future date I really don't want to get out of bed and walk to the living room, turn on the TV and DVR and then program that new recording.
If I have missed something and you can do this please let me know. Otherwise FIOS should add this to their customer's wish list and enable recording for future times on the HD boxes that are part of your multi room DVR system!

You can already do that.  Highlight the show in the guide and press the record button.  You should get a pop up with the option to Set Reminder or Record on your DVR.   If it doesn't check your DVR to ensure that availability is extended to the STB you are using.

  • Why can't I get a straight answer re: Multi Room DVR and HD Boxes

A rep that I spoke w/ on the phone and the website tells me that the HD set top boxes are not compatiable w/ the Multi Room DVR. But they are working on it. A rep I chatted w/ today told me they definitely WILL work together. Why can't I get a straight answer?? And what IS the correct answer? I want to switch to FIOS and I really like the Multi Room DVR option, but I don't want my 1 of my 2 main TVs to be w/o HD. And since the Multi Room Box is HD why wouldn't it be compatiable w/ the HD boxes??
Does anyone know what's going on w/ this?? Thanks!

    Joe01880,
And that info is out of date, whether it is on Verizon's website or not. If you have the latest level of the IMG (1.6), then, as confirmed one post above yours, that the HD STB is now supported, and works. This has been posted in multiple posts on multiple forums, so I believe that it is accurate. But I do not have the 1.6 level so I cannot confirm that personally, I can only repeat what other posters in this and other forums have said. For example:

  • 2 dvrs or single multi room dvr???

i currently have one DVR set up for multi room $19.99 and one standardt STB $4.99.    My wife tapes tons of standard programs and watches them all in the bedroom on the STB (non HD TV there).   This of course limits what i can watch on the good HD DVR in the family room on the HDTV.    I'm thinking of upgrading the HD DVR to the new 500gb (black one) to take advantage of the new IMG and getting a second DVR for my wife in the bedroom, unless there is something i'm not doing right or something in the new IMG to enable the multi room DVR to allow me to watch programs on the HD DVR while two others are recording?   if I do the 2 DVR set up (one standard and one HD)  whats this cost?

Verizon doesn't distribute SD boxes any more ... just HD DVR, HD STB, and a digital adapter (which is SD but doesn't have the guide or the ability to do on demand or multiroom DVR).   You can use an HD box with an SD TV.
Anyhow to your question ... it's one of preference.   The 7232 500GB DVR can be run in multiroom DVR allowing you to watch one channel and record another while someone else is watching a DVR program, or record two channels and watch one on the local TV (and I believe also one on a remote STB).
Difference with two DVR's is the ability to record 4 shows simultaneously (and still be watching two from the DVR's) vs the single setup which is record 2 shows and watch one on each TV.
    So, for two DVR's, I believe it's 14.99 each.
For one DVR multi-room and your current SD box $19.99 and $4.99
For one DVR multi-room and an SD box $19.99 and $9.99 (although at one point verizon had a DVR bundle which dropped the latter to $7.99).
Another option ... and this is what I'm doing in my house with 4 STB's is 2 DVR's and 2 HD STB's with multi-hub enabled (multi-hub is basically multiroom with the new 1.9a IMG which makes all DVR's accessible from any box).  Cost $19.99 for the first DVR, two HD STB's roughly $6 each (DVR bundled discount), and a regular DVR at $14.99.   In your scenario with two DVR's -- $19.99 and $14.99 and you have the best of both worlds.
Recommendation -- one HD DVR multiroom and one HD STB bundled unless you need more the two tuners.
