Apple TV music problems-skips & plays with no sound

I bought a refurbished Apple TV from apple's website last April and it has been working fine, but lately it has started giving me problems when streaming audio from iTunes on my MacBook Pro. It will sometimes skip momentarily when playing a song, or even freeze up for a few minutes only to jump ahead to the next song or a later portion of the current track. Sometimes when it freezes, we will see the progress bar still filling up like it's playing, but there is no sound. Sometimes we see the little white "loading" dial, though not always. Everything else seems to be working on it, it's just the music that is giving us problems. I tried to reboot the apple TV (using menu & down button) but the problem is still there. I don't think it's a network issue, because other wireless devices in our home seem to be working just fine, and this seems to happen even when the apple tv is the only wireless device accessing the network. Any other ideas of how to remedy the problem?

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

I spilled some pop on the back of my iPad. I cleaned it off and everything seems to be going good but when I play music it will either play with no sound or play then continue with no sound. What can I do to fix this (without being costly, it's a iPad 2) this happens with other music apps too. Please I need help!

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't work, there isn;t much anyone here can do for you. It may be a physical problem with your speakers.

  • Videos play with no sound!!!!

All the videos that I have in itunes play with no sound. the picture is fine, Just no sound! This seems to be the way it is for videos that I have imported, and videos that I have purchased from the music store.

    Holy Cow,
I think I figured my problem out. Go here -
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Do the exact opposite, uncheck the box. When I unchecked it, the sound problems disappeared, I can hear everything, the voices sync up with the video again, and it seems to work.
We'll see how long this lasts...
    Good luck!

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

    videoStream.soundTransform = st;

  • ITunes music won't play with burned QT movie on CD

I made a slide show movie on my Powerbook using Quicktime Pro and purchased a song (purchased just for this use) on the iTunes store to add to the movie. Then burned the QT movie to a CD and gave it to friends to commemorate a party that they gave. But the music wouldn't play. A window came up on their PC computer asking them to go to the iTunes store for verification or something like that.
Then I made another movie on my Powerbook using Quicktime Pro and added music to that one that was already on my computer. It wasn't music that I'd bought on iTunes. It was music I had imported to iTunes from a CD that I had purchased. I burned that movie and music to a CD and then tried to play it on a 20" iMac. The music wouldn't play. I didn't have that music installed on that computer but I wouldn't have thought that would be necessary. It should have been burned to the CD.
This is puzzling. I have done this same procedure in the past. I may have done an upgrade to the OS since making movies previously. What changed? How can I get music to play with movies on CDs that are played on other computers than my Powerbook?

    Hi!
The sizes and everything of your music files are normal right? Between 2 and 10 MB or so?
Edit: Copying one of the songs from your laptop back to your desktop works fine on the desktop? That would rule out the following...
This is getting a little bit desperate, but it might help us figure out what the heck is going on with your songs!
Can you install Notepad++ and try to open a malfunctioning song file in it?
Maximize the window and maybe hold Ctrl and scroll down once or twice to bring the font size down. Then take a screenshot of what you see in Notepad++'s window and share that here.

  • [SOLVED] FLASH and Mplayer automatic fasforward playing with no sound

    Hi,
This has been the second time it happened.
When I was playing some video at the background with SMplayer. All in a sudden, the playing stopped. I closed and restarted it:
last time: the video  fast-forwarded automatically without any sound, same problem with VLC;  [the problem got "fixed" only after I rebooted my host Window 7; restarting the archlinux guest didn't help.]
this time: VLC (there was an update in between) can play at a normal speed, but still no sound; as for smplayer, no sound, fastforwading automatically.
And, in both times, flash in firefox fast-forwarded automatically with no sound.
I have Archlinux/Xfce4 in virtualbox hosted by Windows 7. I have been using it for about one month. The problem occurred in last two days.
    Thanks,

  • Songs will continue to play with no sound...

when I use iTunes and I am playing songs from my library of purchased music, the song will be playing along, but then the sound will drop out. When I look at the iTunes Screen it looks as if the song is still playing, but no sound. If I pause the song and restart it, the sound returns. Also if the song finishes, the next song will start off with sound. This seems to occur only when I have my VPN connection established with my company (Cisco VPN client). Is there any settings that I can change to make this not happen? It is very annoying.
    Thanks,
    cmccoy2

I think it has to do with my Cisco VPN Client being connected. Apparently iTunes is constantly going out to the Internet when a connection exists to do something. I would guess that it has something to do with the DRM. When I disconnect from the VPN connection, then it seems to play with no issues. It would be great to be able to turn off whatever it is that is trying to connect to the Internet when I am just listening to music, but I haven't found that option. Thanks for the response.

  • Playing with no sound via Airport Express

Several posts over the past year have been archived with no answer to this question:
Why does iTunes 7.0.2 stop playings songs when both the computer and an Airtunes Remote (in my case connected via a base station) are selected for output?
    Stops between songs
Plays a random number of songs between 1 and maybe 30
The next song is playing according to song progress bar
    Pause and play restarts
Other sound (Quicktime movie or Safari sourced) plays
Audio MIDI Setup Line Out set to 44100 Hz (often changed by MPlayer which is not the self-billed greatest)
Computer is not trying to go to sleep
Aiport Admin Utility Wireless Options Multicast set to 2 (experimenting with 1) and Interference Robustness enabled (experimenting without)
    Boot ROM MP11.005C.B04
Best guess: downstream of iTunes the audio output hardware negotiates with the network but when it gets a no-go flag clamps the stream from iTunes keeping it from even playing through the line out port. Possibly a firmware bug.

    Not using Front Row.
The real issue here is that audio and video stream at different speeds and it is hard to maintain sync. You know how when you hit play within iTunes it takes a while for the song to start through the speakers? It's the same with the DVD. So you'd need to work an offset into the audio when playing a DVD and it's not an exact science.
You can download VLC player and mess around with the offset, then you'll also need a program like Airfoil to be able to force audio through the airport express.
    Good luck!

  • Video playing with no sound in iTunes, playing with sound on iPod

When I try to watch my videos on iTunes the video plays but the sound does not, it even happens on videos that I bought from the music store. The sound for my songs works just fine, just not for video. They work when I play it them on my iPod, too. Any ideas?

i updated to 10.4.7 and it worked.

  • Apple TV music playback skips a second every once and a while

Audio playback on my Apple TV has been having very quick delays, maybe half a second, then continues playing. It's pretty random but getting very annoying. Anyone had a similar issue?

Yes, has happened randomly for me for over a year on at least 2 AppleTVs.
Usually happens when watching video/music videos, the audio briefly drops out but video is unaffected. Also can happen with music occasionally. Do you see it with video?
I'm not convinced it's a network issue though can't entirely discount that,as my router occasionally hangs, but I think it's often a case of AppleTV struggling to do all playback/background tasks from time to time, maxing out cpu usage, and audio being affected somehow.
Some users have found it doesn't seem to happen if iTunes is closed, raising the possibility of some non-playback/streaming related communication process affecting the AppleTV. Some have found unchecking 'Look for AppleTV's' in iTunes has helped.
Lastly, it may be a sign of early hardware failure, most likely logic board or hard drive. One of mine that regularly did this eventually gave up the ghost.

  • Music doesn't play with Still Menu....help

I have still menu in Tiff file.
If I set it to still mode, it doesn't play music.
If I set it to loop, it plays music but when I build. DVSP crashes when it reaches to write that menu...
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you..

.TIFF will work fine - but you don't need to set any loop points to get it to loop. In effect it is a still menu and all you need to do is leave the default setting for the 'at end' drop down box to read 'loop'. If you try to apply a loop point then DVDSP will be expecting moving footage as the menu asset. You converted your .TIFF to M2V and so DVDSP was able to find a GOP structure within that and legally set loop points on the I Frames in the GOP structure.
It sounds to me as if you have slightly misunderstood the way menus are set up and the use of the loop point tool - not a biggie, but worth going over to make it easier for you to use the tools. Well done for finding a way around your problem.

  • I rented a movie on iTunes and I tried to watch it on my Acer laptop, but the movie was skipping ahead, with no sound, and was skipping in general. I moved the movie to my iPhone, and my iPhone will not let me select the movie to play it. What do I do?

    UGHUGHUGHUGHUGHUGH.
    help please?

yes yes and yes. but now the movie has completely disappered from my iTunes and from my iPhone. I had 16 days and 19 hours left to watch my movie when I started it, and after I started it I still had 23 hours to complete it. Now it is completely gone.

  • A video I purchased through itunes is playing with delayed sound (audio and visual is not in sync) - very fustrating to watch!

Recently purchased a brand new computer (windows 8 - with more than the minimum requirements to run itunes) and transferred my itunes library over.  After transferring everything i then purchased a new release video through the itunes store and it downloaded without any problems.  When I went to view the movie in itunes, it started fine but within a few seconds the sound and picture were out of sync.  I paused the video for a few seconds and then when i resumed play it was back in sync but only took a fw seconds for it to all fall out of sync again - very fustrating!
The movie plays fine on my iphone...
Is there anyway of fixing this?
If not i will never be purchasing another movie through itunes!
