Why do I need the iTunes app open on my computer to watch movies if sharing is enabled?

Looks like a bug in iTunes 11. Set your iTunes server computer sleep preference to "never" and hope Apple release a fix for this

Your notebook was delivered with Vista and with your notebook you got Vista recovery DVD or mabe recovery image saved on HDD. I dont know exactly.
For Windows 7 installation you need original Microsoft Windows 7 installation disc. You cannot order original Toshiba Windows 7 recovery disc for this old notebook model.
Install Windows 7 using Microsoft disc. Later install all necessary drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities one by one.

Media is synced to the device from iTunes the same way it has worked in every version of iTunes since the introduction of iTunes.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

2 of my authorized computewrs have crashed and burned. Need to deauthorize them before adding the new computer, as well as one of then was my main itunes computer. how do i move everything

AirportExpress -- Need iTunes Always Running?

Good Afternoon,
I'm interested in setting up a wireless music system, and I'm planning to get an Airport Express to replace my old D-Link router, then add a second Airport Express attached to my stereo system downstairs. Then I'll add an iPod Touch with "Remote" and I'll be all set!
One question... Do I have to have iTunes running all the time to access music from my main computer? If I'm with company in the living room, and I want to play an album, do I have to go upstairs and start up iTunes first? Or does Airport Express have some way of accessing my albums without actually running iTunes?

Apple tv (2nd gen) freezes up while watching movies on Netflix. Only sometimes not on every movie. Any ideas how to fix?

Sometimes when I watch a movie on Netflix on my apple tv it will sometimes pause and freeze for an extended period of time. It happens on about 1 out of every 5 movies I watch. If I watch a movie on my iMac (which is in the same room) I don't have any issues whatsoever. My Internet speed is fine at 50 MEG. I just think that it has something to do with the Apple TV unit. Am I doing something wrong or a setting to change or does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance, Pete.

This doesn't sound right at all.
My thought would be:
1 - Possible itunes problem or corrupt itunes library file. Try using iTunes from a different user account to see if thatworks ok, if it does, I'd wonder about the other account library being corrupted.
2 - Network issue - ensure you've not enabled any firewalls or other software security which could be slowing communication to AppleTV.
3 - Hard drive problem - are these movies stored on the computer's main drive? If so, is the rest of the computer behaving normally or slowly? Check SMART status of drive using Disk Utility. If the movies are on an external or network drive, gain can you manually copy stuff to/from that drive normally? If not it could be a hardware issue or network slowness affecting a network drive. Also could the movies be on a drive that is no longer connected? The odd thing is the artwork not showing in itunes as it normally would in my experience even if files were no longer accessible for some reason.
4 - Just for good measure , and for no particular reason, sometimes restarting router, AppleTV and computer can help spurious issues.

Thanks for your helpful hint, but unfortunatly it did not solve the problem. I know, its rather difficult to explain:
I use the same order on MacBook Pro & Mac Mini (sorted by name in descending order). Both display the photos in iphoto correct as follows:
"20111009 London
20111008 Festival
20110924 Marriage
20110820 Summer
20110617 Italy
20110524 Spring
...etc...
20030101 Wintertrip"
But on apple tv 2 - only when using the Mac Mini as the source - the order is wrong like this (on apple tv 2):
"20110924 Marriage
20110820 Summer
20110617 Italy
20110524 Spring
...etc...
20030101 Wintertrip
20111008 Festival
20111009 London"
Using my MacBook Pro as source for the apple tv 2: everything is fine, the sort order on my apple tv 2 is correct. I imported "20111008 Festival" and "20111009 London" both after the update to iOS5, when I returned from London. I updated my Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and my apple tv 2 (ios5, iphoto 9.2 and iTunes 10.5).
I did another test and changed the sort order on the Mac Mini to be sorted by date and in ascending order. This had no effect to the way the photos are displayed on apple tv 2. The photos are still displayed wrong as described above ("20111008 Festival" and "20111009 London" are put to the very end). It seems, as if apple tv 2 does simple ignore the sort order given by Mac Mini. On apple tv 2 I have to scroll down to the very end to watch my Festival photos and my London photos.
I have two apple tv 2 and the problem is just the same. This is why I thought it might be a problem of my Mac Minis iphoto library or the way it is transmitted via iTunes.

HT1751 I need to set up iTunes to run on my local network, independent of the internet because of a bad internet connection.

I have Hughes Net, for internet. Due to this, iTunes in the cloud, does not operate for us. I need to put my music on a local drive, and create a network drive, to use iTunes, while at home. (I'm still not sure about how I'll handle the music on our iPhones). I have a current AirPort Extreme, (802.11ac), and I have a 64gb flash drive, as well as a 1.5TB external SATA drive, that can be used. I'd like to NOT have to keep the MacBook Pro powered on all the time, but would still like to play music, through/on my iPads and iPhones, while at home.
How can I set this up, to run, independent of the cruddy internet service, which won't allow me to stream a single song, without stopping to buffer, for multiple long periods, during one song?

itunes can share music over the network without an internet connection, but you will need a computer running itunes powered on to be able to share it (setup in itunes by going to file (windows) or itunes (mac) > preferences > sharing)
if you just want to setup a network attached storage drive for the network that holds all the music that would be done independently of itunes and you would need a compatible NAS drive (I don't believe the airport is technically a nas drive but you could ask that section of support communities as well https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport)

I am a dj so I'm away from home a lot in the evenings with my Macbook Pro. However this is also our family computer. I have just purchased an Apple TV so that my kids can watch movies. Just starting renting/buying movies from itunes. We have a bunch of there dvd's that i have ripped to protect them from scraches so they are now in digital form. I was wondering how my kids can watch these movies when I'm away with my laptop. Can my kids watch the movies on apple tv through a NAS or does there have to be a computer present with itunes?

The new iPad does not need to be activated using iTunes. You will need a WiFi connection to activate it, but not a computer.
