Apple TV - No cigar for displaying photo's.

I am disappointed and frustrated by the new Apple TV facility to display photo's.
My photo's are stored on my computer in Nikon RAW format (NEF) I don't want to have to convert them to JPEG's just to do a photo session on the TV. I would also end up with two copies of every shot which is a real pain. If google picasa can display raw images why not apple TV and iTunes.
Also I can understand only having 720p for movies. (1080p/i would need to much broadband bandwidth.) But for displaying pictures which are only coming from a PC or MAC I would really want 1080p to make my photo's really shout at people.

With the old sync model I'd have to disagree - AppleTV would output to devices up to 1080p, so there was little point having video dimensions much beyond 1920x1080ish (non standard for any DSLR or digicam ) except to accomodate zooming/Ken Burns effects.
There was also little point sending 10-20MB files to AppleTV's limited storage when a JPEG would suffice.
With the new streaming model however this changes - itunes should be able to accomnodate RAW file streaming as nothing actually gets stored - it need not send the original RAW only a derivative. Th eonly problem is that for on the fly conversion, many RAW files would choke iTunes in the process, so what it needs is to pre-render the derivative file transparently to the user well in advance of needing to use it.
Personally I see no point in having true native RAW support on AppleTV.
AppleTV should really be used to show either the procesed RAW file content or an as shot derivative.
Assuming RAW display capability would give superior results is wrong.
The RAW file is the starting point, the digital negative, the derivative processed file is the final output.

  • Image quality for displaying photos

I like to use my Apple TV (3rd gen) for displaying photos taken with a variety of devices - Fuji X100s, iPhone 5, Nikon d7000. The output from these devices looks great on my 3Gen iPad but quite a bit less so on the 1080p Samsung tv, they almost look a little pixelated. On the other hand, Apples stock screen saver photos look great on the same tv.
I don't believe that my cameras don't take good enough jpg's to display well and have concluded that Apple may be doing something to their photos that I haven't figured out.
    Any suggestions?

Not all my photos are great to begin with, many are taken in poor lighting conditions, but the good photos are equally as good as the stock photography.

  • Looking for iPad App for displaying photos via a projector

I'm looking for an App that will allow me to display photos using a projector yet permit manual advancing through the slides.
The included Photo app only works with the projector when in slideshow mode. As soon as I try to manually advance a photo the projector output stops.
I've seen references to Keynote but I'd rather not have to import 'x' number of photos into Keynote to be able to display them. I'm not convinced Keynote will do what I want anyway.
There's got to be an app out there somewhere that does this. Isn't there?
    Thanks.

Locking the iPad so that a user can't exit an app isn't possible for any developer to implement, since the developer kit doesn't provide that sort of access to the low-level routines in iOS. The only way to lock into a single app is to use a case/frame that covers the Home button (and turn off the gesture support in the settings in iOS 5).  A number of companies make kiosk mounts for this purpose.

  • Ideas for displaying photos

I'm building a site whereby users are allowed to upload
    photos as part
of a profile and then have them displayed nicely in a gallery
    somehow on
    their profile page.
I'm not sure of the best approach to this.
We need to put some limitations on how much the users can
    upload, either
by the number of photos or by the total file size of all
    their photos.
Which do you think would be best/easiest to implement?
Users need to be able to delete photos and Site
    Administrators will need
to be able delete photos too, in case they are of unsuitable
    material etc.
Should I upload and save the filenames in the db?
I'm really at a loss to know what's best.
    Am using PHP and mySQL.

    Have you look at this?

  • What is the best size and file format for displaying photos quickly

I have a ton of high res files I want to move to an ipad two. I figure iphoto would be the easiest software to use. However what size should I make the files so they are sharp on the screen and load super fast?

Like I say, it doesn't matter. Import a 26 mb file to iphoto. Import a 2 mb one. Sync with the iPad. The image on the iPad will be about the same.

  • Displaying photos on TV w/o AppleTV

Does anyone have a recommendation for displaying photos on the TV? I don't have AppleTV, but I want to have photos continually running on the TV for a party I'm giving next week. I am willing to hook up my MacBook Pro directly to the TV or to burn the photos to a disc... I just don't think the latter is going to play long enough. Is there a recommended configuration for hooking the computer directly to the TV?

    AppleNovice
A slideshow running continuously would seem to be the best answer. As to hooking your machine to the T.V. best to post on the forum for your specific machine.

  • XML to display photos - Help!

Please help... I would like to use an XLS document to display
XML data, but I only want one record displayed at a time. I want to
use a button to refresh the page with the next (or previous)
record. This is for displaying photos and accompaning text. Can I
have a tag that refers to the next record? or do I need to write a
script? Or is there another approach that would achieve this

    </bphotos>
    Thanks

It is all in that tutorial. So if you don't understand it, read it again. Fiddle around with the code there and see what it does. And also, try to get the "using SAX" requirement removed and see if "using XSLT" is any easier.

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

  • Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • My PC Photo Album created for display on my iPhone 6 Plus Gone

Weeks ago I created a set of album folders in a location on my PC and filled them with my photographs for display on my 6 Plus. In iTunes, I set the PC folder as the location to be used for my photos, worked great, they were gorgeous!
Installed IOS 8 this morning, My PC folders and photos are GONE! I've got to stop writing now because my language will become unsuitable for use on this great forum - Bob

If you turned on iCloud Photo Library (Settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photo Library, that will delete any photos on the phone that were placed there via an iTunes sync. I received a warning of that when I switched that setting to on. Another way that could happen is if you did another iTunes sync without those folders selected in iTunes. Each times you sync with iTunes it sets the photos on the phone to match the current iTunes settings.
If you don't have iCloud Photo Library turned on, you can connect to your computer via usb and start iTunes and sync again to the same set of folders. I'm hoping I'm understanding correctly that the folders and photos are still on your computer but not on your phone.

  • What are the options for viewing photos with Apple TV 2?

I have an old Apple TV, and load the family photos on the Apple TV itself. On the Apple TV 2, I know you can connect to MobileMe and Flickr.
Aside from MobileMe and Flickr, are there other options for viewing photos on the new Apple TV? Can you stream them from a Mac, or can you stream them from an iPhone/iPad?
If so, how is this initiated from the Apple TV, Mac, or iPhone/iPad?

You can stream from a Mac via itunes selection (iPhoto events or a folder) - it has 8GB of solid state temporary storage, but quite how things are cached/flushed from here is a bit of a mystery - you cannot say designate 2GB to hold photos or prioritise photos over other material.
Even rentals seem to flush if you've watched them and they haven't expired - relative fell asleep during a rental yesterday so i suggested she watched it today and it downloaded from scratch again, and the AppleTV hadn't had anything but music playing in the interim. Silly this really. There's a post on another section where someone used 17GB of their data allowance to watch a HD movie as it kept reloading!
Yes you can stream photos from iPod/iPad using Airplay, but to be honest i don't think ATV2 offers that much over ATV1 for photos (yet anyway), and in some ways it's inferior.
ATV2 is far more responsive/uses less power etc but I'm not convinced you get anything groundbeaking unless you have a lot of guests who could use it via Airplay from their iphones (and with ipads currently without cameras, photos would have to come from somewhere else in the first place).

  • Metadata displayed for Organizer photos in Elements 6?

In the past when I used to use Elements 3 software, when I clicked on my photo thumbnails in the Organizer the metadata for that photo was displayed. In my newer software, Elements 6, I don't see the metadata in the Organizer, only when I open the photo in the Editor. Is it possible to view metadata in the Organizer?
I have a Dell PC and XP Home.
    Thank you.

right-click on the photo, select show properties, click on the icon that looks like the letter I in a circle

  • Is Apple working on a fix for editing photos for wallpaper, call contacts with photo, etc? The iPhone used to be so intuitive for everything but that tanked with the ios7 upgrade

iPhone 5 was so intuitive before the update. Editing photos has changed for the worst-any word of a fix for editing photos for wallpaper? Not a work around, a fix. If I wanted this kind of photo editing I'd still be using my droid x.
Anyway to go back to ios6?
