Apple tv no longer connected to network

So as of last night I can longer connect my apple tv to the network
I have restarted the apple tv, I have restarted my router, I have moved location of my apple tv and still get "Apple TV isn't connect to the network"
When I go to the network section it says I have no strength and when I try to connect it comes up with "There was a problem connecting to the network"
I have ipad, ipod and laptop that are all connection without any issues.
Does anyone know why it all of a sudden stopped working.  We have had it for almost 1 year and none of these issues
Interestingly enough if I stay on the about Apple TV section ... signal strength will come back for 5-6 seconds then disappear again???
Thanks

zfrommelbourne,
Sounds very strange... You can try this solution below:
The list of available networks that displays in the Configure Wi-Fi / Configure Wireless screen does not update automatically when new resources become available in range of your Apple TV. To refresh the list:
Press the Menu button.
Navigate to Settings > General > Network > Configure Wi-Fi (or Configure Wireless on Apple TV 1st generation).
Press Select/Play/Pause to display a refreshed list of available networks.

  • Apple TV no longer connects to Home Sharing

    Hello,
Frustrated and working on this issue for month - Apple TV no longer connects with Home Sharing! I have uninstalled all apple firmware and reinstalled from scratch ITunes, I have checked and unchecked Home Sharing and entered password dozens of times! I have reset all four apple TVs and I have unchecked/disabled IPV6 and it still does not work. all four Apple TVs have worked for years and somewhere along the way they just stopped.
I am running Windows 7 and the only thing that has changed in the path is the Time Warmer Arris router. Apple TV still connects to WiFi and Netflicks.
    Please help,

  • Apple TV can no longer connect to network after upgrade.

I had heard that lots of people were affected with this problem with the software upgrade before this one so I deliberately waiting until this one came out before taking a chance. I was wrong.
After updating to 4.4. (3140) I can no longer connect to my network. It says there was a problem and gave the error messaged number: (5) in brackets.
I've had nothing but problems with both Apple TV's that I have owned, version 1 and this new version 2. I've a good signal from my router and I've used three different ones over the time I've had the two apple tvs.
    Anyone got any ideas.
I can't connect the apple tv directly because they are too far apart in the house. I can only connect by wifi.
There is nothing wrong with my wifi because I'm connected to it fine though my imac, iphone and ipad and laptop, (not all at the same time)

Ok, here's a solution, courtesy of our friends at AppleCare.
Unplug the router for 90 seconds.
I was running ATV2 with a Time Capsule.   The TC thought the ATV was still connected using its former IP address so wouldn't let it reconnect with a new one.
Hope this works for anyone else with same problem.

  • Apple TV no longer connects to iTunes

For some time now, my Apple TV fails to connect to iTunes. I don't see it in the device list and the only thing that works is to disconnect from my account and then re-sync from scratch (which takes about 15 hours to synch 10GB of content). I've done this twice in the last two weeks. The Apple TV shows that it is connected to the network and shows a strong signal. It also shows that it should be connected to my iTunes library. Yet, after a few times, it just stops showing up and syncing. I've tried power cycling, but that no longer seems to work either. Is the machine fried? Do I need a new one after a few years of use? Or am I missing something? Thanks for all suggestions.

SL has affected a small number of tv users, as was the case with all previous system, itunes and tv updates, this will always occur, but in every case so far these numbers are not significant and tend to support an issue with the users specific set up rather than the updates themselves.
It would be impossible in practice to test all combinations of software and hardware with impending software releases. The fact that an update works at all is a testament to how well tested the software is. As a result an update may appear on the surface to be buggy, but in reality a contributing factor is causing your problem.
If there is nothing to fix, further Apple updates may well not resolve your problem, you need to be looking for a problem with your own set up.

  • I recently installed itunes update and can no longer connect to network nor internet

I recently (sept 2013) installed itunes update and can no longer connect to a network nor internet wired /wireless. I know it is not the gateway as other devices work. Please help. I am not very knowledgable so exact instructions will be most helpful.

Try connecting your computer/laptop directly to the base station with an ethernet cable to one of the external ports and install your network settings. If it finds it there, it will find it after you've reloaded your network info to the base via the Apple Utility. Hopefully when you disconnect afterward, all will be fine. Be sure not to select "closed" network although Macs will login with no prolem, PC's have trouble doing so even with the network data stored in the internet settings.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Pro no longer connects to network via ethernet.

Since coing back from Thanksgiving break and my Mac Pro 1,1 will no longer connect to my router through via ethernet.  This means I can neither connect to internet nor connect to devices like my laptop and Apple TV.  Strangely, I can still connect to my Mac Pro from these devices to share screen, play audio/video through iTunes, etc.  In Network Settings, I still have a green dot, and I still get an IP address assigned (though I usually use a fixed IP).  If I go into my router (Netgear WNDR4000), the router tells me that the Mac Pro 1,1 is connected to the network.
I already have tried the following solutions:
    · Restarting router, modem, and computer
    · Making a new location in Network Settings
    · Trying different ethernet ports
    Please Help!

Your local LAN runs through your router.
All your ethernet  ports, and your modem and router, should be behind and filtered from excess current. That means a UPS generally. And run input line thru UPS (coax) first, then run RJ45 back through UPS again (there can still be excess surge or current on the line).
Modems and routers can be compromised by surge outage or storm. So can ethernet  ports.
You have two ethernet ports and you tried with both also.
What you did not do that I would have added is SMC Reset / Reset NVRAM/PRAM.
This is what I have had for the last year, very nice and stronger  signals thruout the house.

  • Apple TV no longer connects to the internet

New AppleTV no longer connects to wireless network after lightning storm knocked out power.
Turned off security on TimeCapsule and reset AppleTV, but still self-assigns an IP (169.254.xxx.xxx) and appears to detect an ethernet connection even though no cable is connected.
Multiple iPhones, iPads and computers connect to my Time Capsule's WiFi networks (guest as well), but no go w/ the AppleTV.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks!

  • Apple tv won't connect to network

I have two apple tv's in my house, one is working perfectly fine the other is not. It is no longer connecting to the network, i have restarted it many times and it connects for a minute or two and then cuts out. I have tried going into general > network and searching for the network and nothing appears. I have also tried restoring the apple tv but it comes up with an error message saying update was not successful.
    any help please?

make sure they don't have the same name

  • Time Machine will no Longer connect to network drive.. Although the drive is visible and accessible by the system.

Time Machine was working fine, until one day back up was failing due to being unable to delete the old backup. now it will no longer connect to the network drive although the external drive is accessible through the system.. any ideas?

Time Machine is completely unrlable on any networked drive unless that drive is connected to one of the new Airport Extremes. I'm not surprised that you're encountering problems with it if you're using a networked drive. Can you plug the drive into your MacBook Pro and see if it will backup? The backups may - probably are - corrupt.

  • Configurator, iPads update iOS will no longer connect to network

Managing 30 iPad 4s with Bretford cart, Mac Mini.
On a recent update to iOS 7.0.4, it seems that not all of my iPads took it nicely. Only 3 worked like I expected in fact, and function as they did before. 27 others will no longer connect to the network I had deployed as a package in Configurator. In fact, they went back to the beginning welcome / setup screen for the OS reload.
Is there something that I can try before I just set these all to erase and re-prepare them?

Update: I unplugged all, and manually plugged in one iPad.
I unsupervised, and prepared it again, reloaded all the apps, and got the same result.
Once the iPad shows up in Configurator as prepared, and in my supervised list, it seems good to go: BUT
as soon as I turn it on, it shows me the "Hello" welcome screen, asks to join the network, and seems to freeze. The iPad goes to sleep without it receiving a connection.

  • After 2.4 update, Apple TV no longer connects to 5 Ghz network

    Hi,
I have a dual-band AirPort Extreme with 2 networks. One 802.11n only 5 Ghz, the other the slower speed. I used to have the Apple TV connected to the 5 Ghz network and it worked fine. But now it won't pick up an IP address on that network. I have to connect to the slower network now.
Is there any remedy to this? When connected to the 5 Ghz network, Apple TV just gets a self assigned IP address. I even tried manually assigning an IP address and that didn't work. It just wasn't able to connect to the Internet.
I also recently updated the AirPort to 7.4.2.
    Thanks,
    Brendan

I had this when I updated to 7.4.1 and solved it by changing the channel from automatic to manual and selecting 44
The reason for this is that my TC was bought in the US and my MBP in the UK where there are slightly different frequencies used. Thus, my MBP (UK) wasn't able to see the channel that the TC had selected. Changing this sorted it out.
    This was at 5GHz
To change the channel, select your Airport extreme in airport utility, then manual setup. In summary, click on the channel word, which takes you to the wireless config. If you can't select anything other than automatic, then press alt and click automatic and you should be able to manually select a channel.
    Hope that this helps

  • Apple TV no longer connects to Airport Network

I operate an Airport WDS network composed of 2 A. Extremes and 1 A. Express. Several Macs (10.4.11) are connected to the network. So far, the Apple TV used to work fine.
Added a new iMac running 10.5.1. Everything works fine EXCEPT the Apple Network which sees the network but cannot connect to it (Error -3) when I enter the network pwd. Still, this pwd works for every other computer.
I tried everything on the ATV, including a complete reset ("menu" + "-" keys on the remote). Same error again and again.
ATV diags say the device is ok.
How could this be related to my adding one single Leopard computer on the network?
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,

Here's what I found and how to get it working again.
What I found: The TV has network address that is wrong (not the same subnet) as the host mac running iTunes.
The fix - and this depends on your network configuration - you must ensure both Tv and the host computer have acquired IP addresses on the same subnet, say 10.1.1.x and 10.1.1.x+1, or 192.168.2.x and 192.168.2.x+1.. Otherwise iTunes will not connect to the TV.
You will have to force this by setting the IP addresses manually, as I have done.
    The clues....
I first looked at the TV to find its network address and tried to ping that from the mac (use the Network utility or the Terminal). This failed which immediately implies the IP addressing is all screwed up.
In my case I have my iMac directly connected to the AppleTV via a wired ethernet connection.
From the iMac to my ADSL is wireless (Airport), and this internet connection is shared to the ethernet connection.
The TV was configured to use DHCP and the network settings shows it expected to find the iMac at 192.168.2.1, ditto the DNS and router.
What I discovered is this. Turn on the TV screen and set TV to show its network settings, then shut down the iMac. In my case ATV then shows N/A for all the IP addresses.
As the iMac is rebooted, the TV is assigned an address in the 192.168.x.x range, and is given 192.168.2.1 for the DNS and router in this range also.
But if I open the iMac's network panel it has self-assigned an address in the 168.x.x.x range, so its no wonder the TV and iMac are not communicating - they cannot because they aren't in the same subnet.
    In my case:
iMac: open the network control panel, and set the IP address to "Manual with DHCP". Assign an address - I used 192.168.2.1.
TV: set the network settings to manually adopt an address of say 192.168.2.4, and set it to look for the router and DNS (the iMac) at the iMacs address as above.
Hey presto TV and iMac connect again.
I'm not sure whether the TV or Leopard is at fault, but that I had it working fine in Tiger and that in Leopard, ping failed with the error "unable to allocate resources" leaves me to suspect Leopard is at fault.

  • Core i7 no longer connecting to network

I received my Core i7 a couple of weeks ago. It's wireless connection to the Internet worked fine at first, then after a few days the computer wasn't finding the network and required my password (which worked at first), then a few days/reboots later, the network interface stopped taking my password at all and now I'm not able to connect to the Internet with the i7.
My other two iMacs on the network -- Core Duo's running Tiger -- still connect wirelessly with network fine.
I called AppleCare and the tech told me that the Quest Actiontec DSL modem I'm using has WEP security, which she said is too old and vulnerable for the new i7 technology and that WEP is no longer supported by Apple.
I'm in the process of trying to change the security settings on the Actiontec modem from WEP to WPA (as per AppleCare's recommendation), and at the same time I'm looking into upgrading to a router to interface with the modem.
Considering this, which routers are recommended: Airport Express, Airport Extreme, 3rd parties?
Any feedback to help find a solution to get my i7 reliably reconnected to the Internet would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Whether the problem with your network is being caused by the router or the wireless card I'd still upgrade your wireless security settings. WEP has been mentioned as a problem with several users on this forum in the last year or so.
WEP has been childs-play to crack since about 2003? Anybody can download a free sniffer program and figure out the password in less that a minute. I first saw this done on the old TechTV show with Leo Laporte. They used a high school kid to demonstrate how easy this is...
Just about any currently shipping router supports WPA2-PSK (Password Shared Key), and you can use a long password for added security (no words in the dictionary, throw in some numbers, and the longer the better). Your new Mac will support N speeds and N routers are required to provide that speed. The routers will also support the slower G speed your other Mac's may be limited to. WPA2-PSK has not been cracked and is now supported with even WinXP if you have SP3 installed.
I put in a couple wireless routers or hubs a month. I've been having good luck with Belkin routers (only one has failed in the last 3 or 4 years). They are fairly simple to set up. I just throw away the disk and log into the default gateway address and set them up manually.
    http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/belkin-n-wireless-router/4505-3319_7-33361546.ht ml
I usually pick up this kind of item at NewEgg.com
This router also has a neat feature of being able to provide a guest password for wireless for internet access but no access to other machines on the network, or full access to the internet and your other machines with a different password. I've set this up in a couple of coffee house/bars so that they can provide internet access but not open their machines up to visitors.

  • My old Mac no longer connects to network. ideas?

I have an awesome old cube that I use to connect to the network and play music for the room it's in using the tunes library from another computer. My problem is that since I changed to a static IP on my network, I can no longer see the LAN. It connects fine to the WAN through the cable modem, which it's plugged into via ethernet, but it only uses DHCP for it to work. When I manually enter the modem's ip, (gateway/router), it gives me an error that the address is not on this computer's subnet anywhere and to change the address.
It is a long, long way to the other computer, so wiring directly is not an option. It used to connect fine with the same setup, when I had a dynamic address system. Here's my setup:
Comcast cable modem - coax to the net
Airport express - ethernet to the modem. Only one ethernet port
several wireless computers connect via Airport
Cube is plugged into cable modem via ethernet
Cube is on OS X 10.3.9 and has no wireless capability
I've tried using the subnet comcast gave me and also the basic DHCP subnet mask, but neither work. I've even tried to use the static ip of the airport ex as the router, but no.
What am I missing? I guess I could get an airport extreme, and use the extra ethernet port to connect and that would work, but I kind of think there should be a no cost solution here.
    Thanks for any help,
    DD

    Hi Dennas,
Not sure what numbers you're using, but it sounds as if you might be confusing the Outside IP with the internal Router's IP, not sure.
Generally the one you want to use will start with 192.168.x.y, or 10.0.x.y, then it'd look something like this...
    IP: 192.168.0.9
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.0.1
    or...
    IP: 10.0.0.9
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 10.0.0.1
All Computers should have the same Router IP & Subnet Mask, but only the 1st 3 numbers of the IP are the same, the 4th number has to be different, & if Static you need to set that 4th number higher than the number of computers connected+1 so DHCP ones won't get duplicate IPs.
Does that get us any closer?

  • MBP no longer connects to network via Airport

today my MBP will not connect to my network via airport. Several other apple devices connect to the network no problem. MBP connects to the network OK via ethernet cable.
When I try to connect it just keep prompting for network password  & user password, generates spinning wheel but then returns invalid password dialogue box. Tried several times and no success - occasionally there is an additional dialogue box " Apple80211agent......."
Pass word is fine as 5 other devices connect without any issue. What is going on?
Incidentally, just thought to create another Airport connection and hey presto it connects.
    Still confused.
