I used to have an ivies icon on my home screen now it is gone.

Which country are you in? Are you talking about ABC iView in Australia?

Apple Mail no longer showing unread messages in dock

Apple Mail no longer shows unread e-mails in my dock. I recently upgraded to 10.8.4. The program is running and I have tried the various "Dock Unread Count" settings in Preferences. I have also rebuilt the library envelope index files to no avail. I have a lot of rules and over that I use to put e-mails in various folders - is it possible that the rules are interefering with the dock count even though they didn't under 10.7?

In System Preferences > Notification Center, select Mail in the left hand column, and check the box, "Badge app icon" toward the bottom on the right.

I went to settings on Apple TV and tested the network, which was o.k. Apple TV is connected through an ethernet connection to a Linksys router. Apple TV no longer shows up in Itunes. An aside question relating to Itunes: In my movie library, to the left of the movie name, a circle sometimes appears. Some movies have no circles. Some of the circles which appear are solid blue, some are half blue/half white. What do these circles and color codes mean? thanks

A blue circle indicates you haven't yet watched it, a half blue circle that you have started to watch it but didn't finish it.

I recently upgraded my mac mini to the new 2010 version. My Screenshots are no longer showing image icon (thumbnail) as they did on my old 2008 mini?

Quite so; they now show a generic PNG icon. The change came with SL. You'll also note that the naming convention for them has changed.

Apple TV no longer shows up in Win7 iTunes

I have a Windows 7 PC which I use as my main media storage computer. In the living room I have an Apple TV Gen 2, linked by wifi to my router, which in turn is linked by a powerline connector and a 5-port hub to the Win 7 PC. Until about ten days ago I could stream music, video and photos from my Win 7 PC to my ATV, no problem. Now, something has changed and it no longer works.
What no longer works:
- iTunes on Win7 PC no longer finds the ATV
- ATV no longer sees the iTunes library on the Win7 PC
- Remote on the iPhone and iPad no longer find the iTunes library on the Win7
What does work:
- Remote on the iPhone and iPad find the ATV
- ATV retrieves stuff from the internet, no problem
- iPhone and iPads sync to the Win7 machine, so iTunes is on the network and available via the router's wifi
- Airplay from iPhone to ATV
- iTunes on my MBA, when it's on the same wifi as the ATV, shows up and works
Any ideas? I've restarted everything, reinstalled iTunes, checked that the software on every device is up-to-date. No luck so far.

Seem to have fixed the problem. I read somewhere that some routers sometimes struggle to link Apple TVs to wired PCs so I bought an Apple Airport Extreme router. Job done, works perfectly. The AAE seems faster than my previous router and the ATV certainly takes far less time to acquire the library from the PC.

Attachments no longer show as icons in emails

10.6.4 iMac, MacMail
When I selected an attachment it used to always appear as an icon at wherever my cursor was in the email. Now it suddenly appears at the end of the message (which is nice) but is displayed all over the email so I have to right-click and select "display as an icon" every time. At first the first attachment would be an icon but if there was a second it was displayed there - now ANY attachment shows up all over the email. How to stop it?

Okay, well, as I said, for me, anything that can be rendered in one page, is, and if it is multi-page, isn't. Multiple single-pages all render. Toss in one or more multi-page, in any order, into the mix, and all the singles render in-line, in the order that they occurred in the group of attachments, and all the multi-pages show up as file icons, in the order that they occurred in the group of attachments. At least that's how it is on multiple machines to which I have access.
Bad news for you, I bet Apple regards this as a "feature," not a bug. Because they already know what you want and need.
Perhaps some smart person could weigh in here and advise as to whether there is some obscure setting that could be changed by modifying com.apple.mail.plist or by using some hidden features revealer program like an Onyx.
My only suggested work-around would be to zip it (them) before you attach (one or more files highlighted/selected > right-click > compress).
And if you are talking about sending, there is no guarantee as to how the receiver's email program will treat the attachments, anyways. Even though rendered in-line on your end (or not), the receiver may only get a pile of file icons (or may render in-line) (of course, MacMail users will render in-line just like you).

HT4743 movie purchased on apple TV no longer shows up in purchased

I purchased Puss in Boots several months ago and, out of the blue, it is no longer in my purchased list on AppleTV, yet still shows up in iTunes on my computer. Please advise how to get it back onto my Apple TV, as it is no longer purchasble through Apple TV (I searched).

InDesign CS4 no longer shows triangle icon for modified images in Links

My InDesign crashed the other day, and now it no longer gives me the yellow triangular icon in the Links panel to indicate that and image has been modified and needs to be updated. I typically do not connect the image to the original via Indesign, but work in Photoshop independently. This has never been a problem. After I update the image in PS, the triangle instantly appears in ID so I can click on it and update the image.
I can still click on the refresh button to update the image, but I would like those indicators back since it helps me with older documents - so I can know which images actually need the update and which do not.
I have restarted the panel and launched and closed bridge as suggested in other older discussions, and it didn't make a difference. I also noticed that the if I do try to open the original image via ID with Open With, the icon for PS, for example, does not take me to PS (it opens the image in Windowd Paint). This makes me wonder is the whole connection between ID and PS is messed up. How do I fix that connection?

I will also add that the Edit With paths are completely messed up, but only within ID. If I choose to open in PS, it may open it in Firefox, IE, Paint or Windows preview. And then next time, choose a different app. Eventually Photoshop won't even be an option anymore. If I choose Other and choose PS, then it works. If I go in bridge or anywhere else in Windows and choose PS from Open With, then it works fine. This is just an ID problem.

Up until the last few days i could watch using my iPad stuff on my Apple Tv in the family room. Today, on both iPads i can no longer connect. I am running the latest versions of software on the mac, itunes and ipad, and apple tv.
This is a bit frustrating, and problem solving apple incompatibilities is becoming a full time job for me. Very sad.
Does anyone else have the same issues?

Yep totally agree. I have also been on the phone with Apple for over an hour and am expecting a call back shortly. I found one thing though and that is if I turn off all but the one apple Tv I want to use it works. It seems Mirroring has disappeared too. with the last update to my iOS for the iPad it now only allows one Apple TV at a time. I will post what the result is as soon as I find out what is happening.

Apple tv no longer showing when powered off

I just updated my apple tv a couple days ago and now unless I power the apple tv on separately, it does not show up in itunes or my wireless devices' remote app. Once I power it up, everything is fine but it used to show up even when it was off (thus I could actually turn it on with itunes or the various remote apps).
Any ideas?

I've noticed this as well. There have been a lot of funky issues with this latest software update. Are you connecting to the router via ethernet or Wi-Fi? I am connected via ethernet and it's the same as you describe.

I was watching Netflix all for 3 hours then went to the Apple T.V. home screen then all there was only two icons the Computer and Settings? I have restarted the Apple T.V., turned it off unplugged it and starteded it as well as restarted my internet.

Not so I'm afraid. All apps are fed via server, when connection is lost they will disappear and you will only be left with computers/settings.
Did you check location. DNS and Ethernet ?
To see a current status of the network it's best to get a report from istumbler, or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

New skype no longer shows call icons as "incoming"...

In the contact chat history for a single contact, he old Skype client would show an incoming call icon as a "phone receiver with an inward pointing arrow", and show an outgoing call as a "phone receiver with an outward pointing arrow". This was vital information, to know if that call was one you made vs one you answered. The new client shows only a "phone receiver". Why on earth? PLEASE can you restore the ability to see via the icon whether the call was incoming or outgoing?

All the old computers I own branded or unbranded have been fully compatible with XP SP3. If for some reason you couldn't get your computer functional in XP SP3, you could always utilize the workaround I posted here to modify XP SP2 just enough to make Skype functional. I have a triple XP OS boot computer (XP 64-bit SP2, XP 32-bit SP2 [with workaround], XP 32-bit SP3) and they all operate just fine with the latest release of Skype (7.1).

The icon for Airplay no longer shows up when I hit the button at the bottom of the homepage. It previously did. Same thing for my iPad.

Make sure your phone is running the same iOS or higher as the one you backed up. If not, first update the phone. Then try restoring the backup again by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings. This will bring you back to the setup screens where you will be given the option to Restore from iCloud Backup again.

Aple tv no longer showing up in iTunes

Anyone know why my 1st generation AppleTV's (2) are no longer showing up in itunes? I used to be able to see them and could tell when they are syncing. Now they no longer dowload content either.
