Apple TV not appearing in iTunes (HOW I FIXED IT)

Hope my experience is of some help to some of the many people sharing same problem.
I run Mac OS 10.5.1 Leopard on a Mini Mac Intel Duo. My w-lan router is a Netgear DG834DG. AppleTV appearence in iTunes (v 7.5) has never been stable despite all sort of reset procedures...Than I read the post below from snorkel23 and fixed the problem, working on two points:
1) *wireless router encryption*
I changed encryption from WAP to WEP64bit ("open system" in Netgear modem setup page)
2) *Leopard firewall*
I chose option "Set access for specific services and applications" in System Preferences/Security/Firewall AND
I manually added BOTH iPhoto and iTunes in the list of allowed connections (clearly they do not belong to "essential services" criteria set by Apple so chosing this option in Leopard fwall prevented the communication with AppleTV)
Things now seem to work fine.. crossing fingers
Hope this can help

1) wireless router encryption
I changed encryption from WAP to WEP64bit ("open system" in Netgear modem setup page)
WPA is not particularly standardised, many manufacturers specifications may differ and some older routers may not support upgrading to WPA as they seem to claim they do, you should not have these issues with WPA2 and there should be no reason to downgrade your security to WEP
2) Leopard firewall
I chose option "Set access for specific services and applications" in System Preferences/Security/Firewall AND
I manually added BOTH iPhoto and iTunes in the list of allowed connections (clearly they do not belong to "essential services" criteria set by Apple so chosing this option in Leopard fwall prevented the communication with AppleTV)
Enabling sharing in these applications should set your firewall up for you in this way, however I appreciate it didn't seem to for you and am glad that another user is now happily enjoying their tv.

  • Why are my purchased movies from apple TV not appearing in itunes?

I have purchased movies on both my itunes and apple tv. However, my apple tv movies do not appear on my itunes. I would like to either have them all on my itunes or all on my apple tv (or is it iCloud??).
Is this possible? If so, how? Thank you.

If a movie is removed from the iTunes store then yes you would lose it.
I think you misunderstand what icloud is, there is no 'raw contents'.
iCloud allows for reloading of past purchases (it is simply accessing what is on the storefront), syncing contents between devices and backup of mobile data. It is different from say something like dropbox.

  • Apple TV2 not appearing in iTune and TV

I tried to update my Apple TV2 but got stuck now.
    1. I tried to restore my apple TV when connected to TV. I went to settings (i guess) and clicked on restore.
    2. It didn't work so I thought I should update first and then restore but by mistake selected the option reset/ reset all.
Now problem is that my apple TV box is not recognised by my LCD and when I tried to connect to itune on laptop through USB cable its not working either, I mean not visible on itune.
I am going no where at the moment, tried restarting the apple tv many times but same result.
    Could someone please help ?
    thanks,

When you tried to restore in iTunes, did you disconnect from power and HDMI?

  • ADF Menu container "shadow" does not appear... how to fix?

In EM (Grid Control), the user can navigate to some MOS (My oracle support) content. The content which is flash (swf) is displayed within an iframe. There is an adf menu bar above the content area and if the user selects an adf menu for display, the main part of the menu container (that shows the menu items) displays fine, but the menu container "shadow" (below and to the right of the container) does not. Would anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I've tried setting the z-index (of the iframe) but that didn't work.
    Thanks.

if u r using ADF then u have to have adf libraries added.. the red lines are coming because jdeveloper could not find those classes mentioned.. the libraries have those classes.. so when u added the libraries.. u r red lines are gone..

  • The time limits on the parental controls do not work. Apple does not seem to know how to fix this issue since the problem has been going on since at least leopard.

The time limits in the parental controls do not work. I have several mac systems and they do not work on all of them. Also, I have had this problem since at least snow leopard and it is very frustrating that Apple is unable to fix a simple issue like this. All they have to do is somehow 'hard-wire' the time limits to the system clock but they are not listening. I used the feed-back feature in their support webpage and hopefully everybody else experiencing this issue will too. Thus, if they get a thousand notes on this issue they might listen and finally fix it.

Well, the whole system with those time limits are funky. Sometime this happens, sometime that happens. When the user is on the bed time limits do not work nor do the length of time limits. It is very frustrating as one of the reasons I bought an apple in the first place was those parental controls which did not exist in Windows prior to Windows 7. I do have a Windows 7 machine now and the bed time limits work there. Maybe you have a Windows 7 machine as well and can let them use it.

    Hi there,
If you are experiencing an issues where iTunes is not recognizing your iPod, then I would recommend taking a look at the article below.

I have OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). My iPhone 4s does not appear in iTunes. only iPhoto recognize my iPhone. Update of iTunes seems not possible. How can I make appear my iPhone in iTunes?

From the box the iphone came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)"
You will need Mac OS 10.5.8 or later in order to get itunes 10.5 or later, in order to connect your iphone.

  • Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?, Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?

My Ipod 160GB when disconnected is showing without any files, but no room available. It appears in my 'Computer' screen as 'Removable Disk (though the icon is a little iPod). It does not show up in iTunes at all (I have the latest version).
When I right-click the icon on the 'Computer' screen it does run incredibly slowly. I was doing this to consider if I should try formatting it (only NTSF and exFAT formats were showing) but I wasn't certain if that would be a good idea.
    I have thus far:
    Hard Reset iPod
Verified the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver was installed correctly via Device Manager
Checked the device in 'Computer Management' > 'Disk Management - showing as a RAW file with only format option as exFAT or NTSF
Ran iPod in Diagnostic Boot Mode - IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* - stats revealed 'Error' (did this twice to confirm error). Reset iPod from here.
After this it actually came up in iTunes but said it needed to be restored - ran Restore iPod. Error message said 'iPod cannot be restored. Uknown error occoured (1415).
Tried Solution 1 (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539) - Reregistering the .dll files. Was unable to complete step 11 as the iPod did not appear in iTunes.
Verified that Apple Mobile Device Manager was installed.
Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service.
Checked for third party conflicts - couldn't find any.
Changed the drive letter and restarted the computer.
Put into disk mode - unsure what that achieves.
Downloaded the HP USB with no luck running the program. I believe that Windows Vista doesn't allow formatting drives to FAT32 at all, and even previous editions of Windows wouldn't allow formatting above 32GB so certainly no suitable for me. If I got hold of a mac computer - could I format on that? Or is there a FAT32 Formatter that works for 160GB?
So I am at a bit of a frustrated loss. If you have any suggestions or know what I should do - I am all ears or eyes as it were. I will be on standby to give you more information if required.
    Thanks,
    Ashley

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

  • Since update 11.1.4.62, my iphone does not appear in iTunes at all.  How can I fix that?

    Hi,
I updated iTunes this morning and now my iphone, ipad do not appear in iTunes.
I tried unplugging the usb cable and but it still does not work.  I tried powering off my iphone but it does not connect.
my husband has the same problem with his ipad with his pc.  He did the same update this morning.
    Anybody has an idea?

I had the same problem and tried some of the fixes describing Apple Mobile Devise settings etc. it didn't work.
What did work was uninstall iTunes and othe various Apple apps and then reinstall with the latest version of iTunes from Apple. All my playlist, music, setting remained intact and it works like a charm.

This first article should be helpful in getting iTunes to recognize your iPad once more:

My ipod touch has a permanent image of the end of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an icon of ITunes. I can't reset using the two button method, and ipod does not appear on itunes when I plug it into the computer - and nothing else happens either.  This happened after I agreed to a software update which failed.  How can I get it going again?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod mini is not appearing in iTunes or windows explorer.

My iPod is not appearing in iTunes or explorer. Only when I go to hardware manager windows admits that there is something that is not installed properly. But when I start the hardware manager and put in the CD, as required by the hardware assistant it says: Hardware couldn’t be installed.
So it is not even possible to reset my iPod, because is not recognized by the iPod Updater. I had to go to another computer to reset the iPod. After that my computer is still not recognizing it. So I installed the latest version of iTunes and Updater, but it doesn’t help. I installed also the latest drivers for my computer, but it did not work. Running the iPod in disc mode doesn’t change anything, too.
The iPod is not listed under disc management so I can’t change the Drive from E to G.
I tried the inactivation of all Microsoft-services according to the protocol from the apple web page, but it did not work, even after installing the latest version of iTunes.
I've read the entire troubleshooting pages on how to fix it.
The message on the iPod mini display is always the same when I connect it: “do not disconnect” and after about 3 seconds “OK to disconnect”. But the iPod is never listed in windows explorer or iTunes. I also reseted it, when it was connected to the computer.
I completely run out ideas and I am about to send it to service.
    Can anyone help?

  • Ipod 160g does not appear on itunes but it appears on windows when in disk mode

my ipod 160 g does not appear in itune (disk mode or not) but it appears in windows as IPOD (F:) only when it's in disk mode. I tried reseting it by holding the menu and center button it stop but then it goes back to the apple logo screen and stay on untill the battery dies and nothing else happens how can I reset it to is factory settings?

When you connect it in Disk Mode, leave it charging the iPod Battery till Full Charge.
In the meantime, 30 minutes or so into the charging, ( I just want the Ipod to have sufficient power for any harddisk Operation)
go to Window Explorer (or My Computer),
Select the Ipod, right click properties, ->tools->error checking->Check Now->fix error
After the error fixing (may take a while but then you still have to wait till the battery charging is complete.)
Disconnect the iPod from the PC.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze Itunes sync Operation with Ipod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your Ipod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete. - Done above
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
Good Luck! and have a Nice Day!
