Apple tv not authorized

Purchased tv show on mac and synced to apple tv (1st gen). Get message "your apple tv is not authorized to play this content. Mac is authorized. Only on e apple id on both mac and apple. Software up to date. Rebooted everything. Any ideas?

I was having the same problem with recently purchased iTunes content on my 1st gen Apple TV's - my 2nd gen Apple TV was OK.
The problem seemed to start about 4 weeks ago and was impacting both recently purchased movies and tv shows.
In my case the problem was fixed by :
deauthorising iTunes on the Macs and then reauthorising - after which the content then played OK on the 1st gen apple TV's.
However there was a minor side effect !!
my Apple TV appeared to drop all of its locally synced DRM protected content and is now busy resyncing from iTunes !!!
The Apple TV presumably detected that iTunes was no longer authorised for the content ( all be it briefly !! ) and dropped it..
I assume that Apple have probably tweaked the DRM protection slightly recently and this probably confused the older 1st Gen Apple TV's.
Hopefully the above also works in your case.

    Hi,
Are you trying to watch episodes from the US store and are you trying to play them from outside the USA?

I cannot buy an email Gift Card "Apple ID Not Authorized for Email Purchase" ???

I'll add my frustration in trying to purchase an e-mail gift card and being told I'm not authorized either.  Be nice to get more feed-back on the reason (e.g., no valid credit card, we think you pirate songs, you wear funny shoes .. something) instead of just NO!

  • My apple tv it is not authorized to play a movie that I received as a gift from the itunes store. It plays on my G5 but after downloading to apple tv, when I try to play the movie,  i get an error message that says the apple tv not authorized to play it

When I try to play a movie I downloaded from iTunes on my apple tv, the error message I get says the apple tv is not authorized to play the movie. I reauthorized the computer to be sure it is authorized ( as per Apple advice).

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If this is the Apple TV 1, this is a new issue which started with any new protected content purchased after October 28.
You could de/re authorise your computer, disconnect and reconnect the library and resync your content, alternatively purchasing content directly from the Apple TV also appears to resolve the problem.

  • Apple TV not authorized to view that rented movie

OK. I just got my new Apple TV or iTV as I like to call. I am so excited and I tried to rent a movie. WOW, it really has been a problem. I have the movie on my ATV and I go to play it and it tries to authorize for a couple of seconds then then tells me that the ATV is not authorized to view the movie. I tried to check the support for information.
I tried to go to store, check purchases.
I tried to authorize the ATV.
I am using my timecapsule network, wireless and have logged in to both the internet and my apple ID.
I also decided to use the shared deal instead of actually transferring, thought that might be the problem so I changed it, both give me the same problem.
PLEASE Help, My family is waiting!

I recently hooked up my ATV to my network (with an Ethernet cable not wireless). It worked great..allowed me to purchase music, purchase tv shows, and synced great with my iTunes on my mac book. I can browse YouTube, watch movie previews. The problem is when I rent a movie the ATV will allow me to rent the movie...iTunes charges my credit card..i can even download the movie but when I try to play the movie i get the message "Your Apple TV is not Authorized to play this content." I spent two hours on the phone with Tech support and emailed back and forth with iTunes support with no resolution. I really don't think anything is wrong with the ATV but who knows. I even hooked the ATV directly to my modem (Charter Cable is my ISP) and got the same results. Very frustrating.

  • Apple TV not authorized to play rented movie

My Apple TV and movie rental experience has been hellacious!!
So now, the movie I rented from my iMac is finally in my rented movie list on my Apple TV (after struggling to figure out that you can't watch a rented movie while Apple TV is synching???). However when I attempt to play it, I receive the message "Apple TV is not authorized to play this content". I'm not sure how it's even possible that the movie would be on my Apple TV but not playable!!
This is the problem with DRM: it takes down too many legitimate users. And Apple has seriously bungled the whole movie rental thing.
HOW HARD IS IT TO LET PEOPLE WATCH MOVIES THAT THEY HAVE PAID TO VIEW?????

Entirely agree, a few months back I had to rebuild my whole iTunes library from scratch as part of 'troubleshooting' a similar authorisation issue, and none of the steps in the help page actually helped!
Then strangely one day the problem files just played - I have a sneaking suspicion that sometimes Apple's authorisation servers play up or are unavailable as having jumped through hoops as instructed I simply had a library that had lost all custom tags/thumbnails added to my own non-iTunes store content and still couldn't play the problem files.....then one day they just worked.

  • Apple TV not authorized to view content  -- solution remove family videos??

Hi. Whenever I add add family videos (mp4, created with CRUNCH), my movie rentals stop working on Apple TV. I get the message saying that Apple TV is not authorized to view content. These are movies that I have paid for and have been downloaded directly to Apple TV. (Same problem occurs even if I download movies rental to my Mac and transfer them to Apple TV.)
If I remove my family videos from Apple TV, then the movies rentals work again.
I don't like this situation -- Apple is forcing me to choose between my family videos or movie rentals. Has anyone else experienced this problem?? Any ideas or suggestions??

Yes, my home movies play with no problem on Apple TV. I've tried other conversion programs with the same results.
Once I remove my home movies the movie rentals are fine again. But once I place the home videos back on Apple TV, the rentals stop working.
I am in Canada -- where movie rentals have only just become available. Could this have anything to do with it??? Perhaps there are still a few glitches in the system?

  • Configurator - Apple ID Not Authorized

I've been testing Apple Configurator in hopes that we can use it to pre-install our MDM application onto our iPads and iPhone before they are sent to the users.
However, when I try to prepare a blank iPad, configurator gives the error that the Apple ID is not authorized. I have signed in to configurator with an Apple ID that has downloaded the (free) app, and this iMac is authorized in iTunes (and currently signed in to the iTunes store).
Is there something that I'm missing?
    Thanks!

Firstly, i have this problem too.  Secondly, gyrhead seems to have two contradictory suggestions, but perhaps I am missing a nuance.  Oh - now i see (after writing the rest of this message). The preference setting i found requires and Apple ID, and i think it must be a special VPP program apple ID? Didn't know what "log into configurator" -- but i think understanding those two messages is key. Will re-read the docs.
I have logged into iTunes and alunched the configurator from one computer, downloaded a free app, then attempted to use configurator from THAT mac to intitialze a set of iPads in a Bretford tray.
I think this means i must have authorized this computer for that apple ID. I even tried authorizing the ipads by connecting them to the store and downloading free apps, and set authorized them for the same app id.
I see that configurator itself has preference seting for apple ID, and it says "The Appl eID used in the Itunes Store on this Mac to redemm VPP redemption codes and download apps. This is not the VPP PRogram Facilitator's Apple ID."   I know this is not a VPP Program Facilitator's Apple ID; i am not sure if this means i Should use the VPP Program Facilitorto's Apple ID or if this means that it SHOULD NOT be as it won't be used that way.
In any event i just want to install and manage FREE apps, and don't have a VPP Program account.
With one regular Apple ID intended for use with free apps, i can't make this work.

  • Apple TV Not Authorized to Play Music

This one is driving me crazy. My computer is authorized to play music from 2 iTunes accounts. The Apple TV is on the network and I share the library so that I can stream music from the computer to the Apple TV. But it still won't play Protected ACC files. None of them. I have de-authorized and authorized all accounts. Not having any success.
    Any ideas???

Ditto, and my understanding is that a synced Apple TV (which mine is) doesn't count towards the 5 authorized machines, it stands in as the computer with which it is synced. But I cannot play any protected AAC podcasts or audiobooks.

  • HT2589 apple ID not authorized to purchase gift certificate...why?

Trying to buy daughter a gift certificate online.  Get this message

Are you trying to buy an iTunes gift certificate online that you can either download and print or email to someone?  Are you getting this error? “This Apple ID is not currently eligible to purchase gift certificates. You can purchase iTunes Gift Cards from a variety of retail locations.”
It seems that Apple has been limiting certain accounts due to all of the fraud that has been happening lately. Hackers were stealing peoples passwords and buying gift certificates that they were selling on eBay or the black market.
In order for your Apple ID to be eligible automatically you need to purchase something with your credit card from an Apple Retail store on apple.com.  Others have had success with removing all credit cards from the account and then adding one at the time of purchasing your iTunes Gift Certificate.
I contacted apple by email and they resolved my account issue but took 24hrs.
    Hope this helps

  • Apple ID not authorized to purchase Gift Certificate

Why was I able to purchase gift certificates and now all of a sudden I'm not allowed?

Apple rep was very helpful but it may take a couple of tries.  Go right to Apple for help and write up your problem in detail and they will reply.

  • Apple TV not authorized to play content?

Can anyone help with this one?

    It resolved itself.
Although I got that message, I ignored it and went to Menu and then PLAY and it worked.
    Thank you for your response.

Authorize the coumputer.  Go to store in the top of the screen and authorize it.

  • TS1424 I downloaded a song and it says my computer is not authorized to play it, but when I put in my apple id and password to authorize it it tells me this computer is already authorized! What do I do?

I downloaded a song from itunes and it says my computer is not authorized to play it, to authorized enter your apple id and password so I did, then it said that this computer was already authorized, but it still won"t let me play the song! What do I do?

Apparently not!! I am NOT happy about it either! I had always bought my mp3's from walmart.com (until they quit doing it) & ANY time I had a problem, they had it corrected in less than 5 minutes! Apple is a large enough company, that they should have an EASY to find support system. Having to post on here, WAITING for someone who MIGHT know how to fix it, is aggrevating!! I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANY MORE MUSIC FROM ITUNES & WILL BE GOING TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN APPLE PRODUCT!
