Apple TV not connecting to the net

I had my Apple TV connected to my Airport Extreme (Fast Ethernet) wirelessly, out of the blue it stopped syncing with iTunes and would not connect to the net (no You Tube or film trailers).
I tried to plug in a Ethernet cable to my MacBook (IP address is assigned by DHCP and my MacBook connects to the net wirelessly) and it has since started syncing but still would not connect to the internet.
I tried a factory reset from info I found on the Apple site. My Apple TV reverted back to version 1.0 and I had to sync my iTunes stuff again (still connected via a cable directly to my MacBook) however I still can't connect to the net and can't update the software on there.
Does anyone have any ideas as I miss You Tube?

If you are connected directly to a Macbook by ethernet, you will need to ensure you have internet sharing enabled in your system prefs.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • Apple TV "not connected to the internet" when woken up

    Hi,
So my Apple TV works fine... Except that every time I wake it up after a long time of being in standby or simply not in use, it tells me it's "not connected to the internet". This is really strange because it IS connected-- even when I wake it up to find that message, I can go on itunes in it, watch podcasts and youtube and basically do everything online. It also HAS downloaded TV shows automatically that I have passes for. Yet every morning when I start using it, I see that message. I usually only see it in the morning after it's not used all night... I don't think I've ever seen it during the day after it's not being used for only a few hours.
    What could this mean?

I am also having this problem. It only started happening after I switched from a wired connection to my dsl router to a wireless connection. The message is not there every morning, only maybe 25% of the time. I leave my ATV on all the time, so it is not an issue with standby.
In spite of the message everything works fine - movie trailers, youtube, etc, so it is a minor issue for me at the moment.
I have yet to try buying and downloading a movie, I am wondering if it's overnight download could be interrupted by this problem...

Thank you, for that. To be sure, I tried your suggestion, and selected "System Proxy" as the choice, for Thunderbird and Firefox. Rebooted, and looked at the outcome.. NO Joy.. :-(
I believe that I shall send the output of the Error Log in my next post. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction after looking at the Error.log.
Thank you...Toad Hall. If you think of something else to try, I am ALL ears.. I shall keep trying..

  • Why are all my Apple devices not connecting to the web?

I have an Airport express and has been working fine up until recently. Now none of my Apple devices are connecting to the web. They all find the network no problem and all connect however they will not connect to the internet. The strange thing is that our Windows laptop works fine but absolutly nothing from Apple, this includes a 2011 MacBook pro, iphone 3gs, ipod touch, Apple tv and 2x 2nd gen ipads. I have reset the airport and  set up a new network, it worked for one day and is back to how it was. Any advice would be great

I seem to be having a similair issue. I have an AirPort Extreme and my iMac connects fine but now my Kindle and Netflix are unable to connect to the Internet? They see my network but just can't connect to the internet?
I used to have my cable modem connected to a Vonage phone router, which then connected to my Airport. Everything worked fine then. I recently canceled my Vonage service and removed the phone router. Now my cable modem is connected directly to my Airport. Did removing the phone router casue my problem? Do I need to re-set something to get my kindle and Netflix to work again?

  • How do I download the AfterEffects 6 trial that I want to use on a computer that is not connected to the net?

I am using a Mac for video editing but due to company rules it can not go on the net with that computer. I have AfterEffects 5 but I need AfterEffects 6 for a project. I wanted to download the trial from Adobe.com but it wants to install on the designated "internet" computer which is of course a Win based computer and not the one that is set up for video editing.
So how/from where can I get the full AE6 trial downloaded onto my Win based computer and then transfer it to my Mac, then of course activate it on the Mac for the 30 day trial period without having to put that computer on-line?

I am sorry Juditka but I do not know of any downloads for After Effects 6.0.
If you are looking to download After Effects Creative Suite 6 then the installation files can be found at Download CS6 products.

  • Apple TV "not connected to the internet"

My Apple TV 2nd gen suddenly stopped connecting to wi-fi - in the network settings I can see and select my wi-fi network, but connection fails. In Settings>About it shows that Activation Failed. My Airport Express router shows the Apple TV's MAC address as connected wi-fi client with very strong signal. Restarted Apple TV, reseted it few times and no luck at all. All my other devices using the same wi-fi network have no connectivity issues at all. Really need some serious help here.

Saga continues... Every time I'm waking up Apple TV from sleep it shows no connection to the network. It sees my home network, my business network and all nearby networks, but selecting the network doesn't result in connection.
I have determined one thing though - it is definitely the Apple TV's problem, as I also tried to connect to my business network (the same signal strenght as my home network) with same zero results. Restarting the business network's router or the home network's Airport Express results in immediate connection of Apple TV to the network. What gives? How to fix it? Is my Apple TV (2nd gen) dying?

  • How to keep my keyword in the Apple TV to connect to the Net

I'm fed up with put my web's keyword everytime I connect. Anybody knows how could I keep the keyword?

I believe vaz meant check your network settings on your router.
Also Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • Initiate a dial-up connection or detect whether I am connected to the net

I want to initiate a dial-up connection from my java program and also to detect whether I am connected to the internet or not.

well I am developing a proxy server and I want to add
a feature of dial-up demand that detects the current
connection status and if not connected to the net then
call the dial-up dialers in dial-up networking folder
and then connects to the internetI'd say it works like I wrote earlier:
Keep yourself in the proxy-server the connections-status.
If your proxy-server runs on a normal PC, it should be enough to try to connect to the internet.
But do you need control over multiple dial-up dialers etc., this probably isn't enough.
If I can find the time, I'll look into it.
Maybe direct access to the modem is also an option.
That depends on the modem of course and then you probably also need additional scripting. I guess that's not what you're looking for, but if you need info on that, it's probably also an option to look at a wvdial-script on Linux for connection to the internet. It might also be a problem if you have multiple channels for connecting onto the internet (cable, phone,ASDL etc.)

  • Authorising a pc not connected to the internet

    Hi
How can I authorise a computer not connected to the net?
My main iTunes is on my home pc... has all my cd's uploaded on it now but it's not online to be able to purchase new music.
I recently downloaded a new itunes onto my Work pc, and bought a few albums... transferred the songs onto a removable drive and brought them home, saved them all in the correct folder and I can see them when i open my home itunes, but can't play or download them to my ipod as it's not authorised. Is there a code or something I can enter somewhere on my home pc that will authorise it?
    Thanks a mill,
    C.

How can I authorise a computer not connected to the net?
Connect it to the net, authorize it, disconnect it from the net.
There is no alternative means of authorization. The machine simply must have an internet connection to get authorized.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
