Apple TV not connecting

Ever since I did the itunes update this week. I cannot access my itunes libraries from my 1st generation Apple TV. What can I do to solve this problem? I can only access what had upload before the update. My itunes connects with Apple TV through airplay but not the libraries.

I have the new Black Apple TV Streaming: Same problem of not connecting to iTunes home sharing. AppleTV sees the computer and the initial structure (Music/Movies/Pictures) but cant see actual files and movies. It worked before last update earlier last week but now nothing. Just spinning wheel. Any advice / tip / tricks I am open for suggestions.....

    Hi,
    So my Apple TV works fine... Except that every time I wake it up after a long time of being in standby or simply not in use, it tells me it's "not connected to the internet". This is really strange because it IS connected-- even when I wake it up to find that message, I can go on itunes in it, watch podcasts and youtube and basically do everything online. It also HAS downloaded TV shows automatically that I have passes for. Yet every morning when I start using it, I see that message. I usually only see it in the morning after it's not used all night... I don't think I've ever seen it during the day after it's not being used for only a few hours.
    What could this mean?

    I am also having this problem. It only started happening after I switched from a wired connection to my dsl router to a wireless connection. The message is not there every morning, only maybe 25% of the time. I leave my ATV on all the time, so it is not an issue with standby.
    In spite of the message everything works fine - movie trailers, youtube, etc, so it is a minor issue for me at the moment.
    I have yet to try buying and downloading a movie, I am wondering if it's overnight download could be interrupted by this problem...

    iTunes Producer looks for you registered  book sellers ID
    Have you actually opened a book sellers account with  Apple?
    Have you opened an iTunes Connect Account?

    Open the link and click on Get Started > select the  free or paid book account and proceed through the sign up process.
    Its advisable to use a different username/PW and email for a book sellers account and if you  intend to  have free and paid books, you will need separate accounts?IDs
    You will be asked for your  website URL ( address) if you dont have a website... Facebook is a ready answer.   Apple sees this as a "Support" contact path.
    If you want to sell books, you will also need an EIN  number from the US tax
    If you have  done all this and still have problems,  you first need to check and confirm all  your details are correct.

    I just moved to a new apartment, and now have Comcast as my primary internet provider.
    But, my Macbook Pro is my main computer at the moment, and any Apple related software (itunes, safari, software update, etc.) say that I am not connected to the internet. Firefox 2 works perfectly fine, as does iChat and World of Warcraft.
    I haven't been able to find any information (or if anyone even has a similar problem) so I would greatly appreciated it, if anyone had any ideas.
    Oh yeah, I'm using a WRT54G router from Linksys, and I tried changing the wireless channel three times to no avail.
    Network Diagnostic says I am connected to the internet (via Airport).

    I have a similar problem.
    Does everything work okay if you plug a network cable into the MacBook Pro and your Linksys router? (ie don't use wireless)?

    I have an Airport express and has been working fine up until recently. Now none of my Apple devices are connecting to the web. They all find the network no problem and all connect however they will not connect to the internet. The strange thing is that our Windows laptop works fine but absolutly nothing from Apple, this includes a 2011 MacBook pro, iphone 3gs, ipod touch, Apple tv and 2x 2nd gen ipads.     I seem to be having a similair issue. I have an AirPort Extreme and my iMac connects fine but now my Kindle and Netflix are unable to connect to the Internet? They see my network but just can't connect to the internet?
    I used to have my cable modem connected to a Vonage phone router, which then connected to my Airport. Everything worked fine then. I recently canceled my Vonage service and removed the phone router. Now my cable modem is connected directly to my Airport. Did removing the phone router casue my problem? Do I need to re-set something to get my kindle and Netflix to work again?

    I had my Apple TV connected to my Airport Extreme (Fast Ethernet) wirelessly, out of the blue it stopped syncing with iTunes and would not connect to the net (no You Tube or film trailers).
    I tried to plug in a Ethernet cable to my MacBook (IP address is assigned by DHCP and my MacBook connects to the net wirelessly) and it has since started syncing but still would not connect to the internet.
    I tried a factory reset from info I found on the Apple site. My Apple TV reverted back to version 1.0 and I had to sync my iTunes stuff again (still connected via a cable directly to my MacBook) however I still can't connect to the net and can't update the software on there.
    Does anyone have any ideas as I miss You Tube?

    If you are connected directly to a Macbook by ethernet, you will need to ensure you have internet sharing enabled in your system prefs.

    What particular Wireless Security are you using? If you are using WEP, try to put a # sign before the actual key. Or make sure you are using the correct wireless security passphrase if you are using WPA.

    My Apple TV does not appear to be connecting to the network and says it is trying to set time and date. My kids lost the apple remote so we have been using the iPhone or iPad as the remote, but now the Apple TV isn't visible.  Is there a way to fix this without an apple remote?

    Scan the Support Community sites and you will find: Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with:-
    1 Apple TV1,2and 3;
    2 with different brands of router including Airport Extreme;
    3 with current and past versions of iTunes;
    4 after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days;
    5 losing connection with Home Sharing and losing Airplay;
    6 whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance;
    7 after trying innumerable posted 'fixes';
    8 after exchanging for a new Apple TV;
    9 with all the recent operating systems -Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard and Lion.
    10 when it loses wifi, the ATV will work immediately if you plug in the ethernet cable.....Steve Jobs called the ATV a hobby, but Apple products are supposed to be better than this.
    I suspect frustrated  readers just give up trying, rather than find a fix, which is why I invite readers to please don't post a fix until you check it works for at least a week.

    I have a 3rd gen iPad, an iPhone 5 and 3rd gen ATV, all have been updated to latest OS. The iPhone and iPad easliy connect to the Apple TVs that we've got at work on our corporate network, but do not connect on my home network. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, they'll connect for about 5 minutes and then disappear. Really frustrating!
    I'm on Xfinity wireless at home, and the router is Arris TG852. I'm not technicaly at all when it comes to routers or home networking. Someone said that my home network might be preventing the devices from talking to each other..
    Can anyone help please? I'd apprecaite any assistance just to get it working normally! Thanks!

    Thanks deggie, I'm hoping there might be another fix. I went through there and submitted a request for a new router, this link is useful after going through a number of posts on the comcast site: http://www.comcast.com/deviceupgrade/?SCRedirect=true and I've got to wait for 4 - 6 weeks for a new one to arrive!
    What I'm confused about is why is works for a few minutes, as that proves it can work, but stops and doesn't work at all after that.

  • Apple TV not connecting to Internet...can't find Apple ID for Home Sharing

    I recently moved to a new place and had to set up a new Internet service.
    I connect my Apple TV to the service to be told that I has connected to the network but not the Internet. This means I can't get it to access home sharing. Every time I put in my username and password it won't connect me (doesn't even try, I assume because of the lack of Internet). What can I do about this?
    Some things to note:
    - IP is not static
    - both are connected to the same network
    - Apple ID and password are definitely correct
    - iTunes connected with home share (same account as I'm trying to connect with on Apple TV) and iMac is connected to wireless.
    Didn't have this problem at my old place. There I was on fibre optic, here standard broadband.
    I'd really appreciate any help as my provider won't help and I refuse to purchase Apple Care to get an answer on a device I bough less than three months ago, does a simple job an should just do it, as it did before.

    This bug is bigger than the subset of products described in the above article:
    According to the document, affected units will have a serial number ending in DRHN, and the third and fourth characters of the serial number must contain one of these pairs: H9, HC, HD, HF, HG, HH, HJ, HK, HL, HM, HN, HP, HQ, HR, HT, HV, HW, HX, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7, J8, J9.
    I don't have an AppleTV with those sequences and yet I'm having a similar issue - AppleTV thinks its connected via Ethernet (I've unplugged Ethernet) and despite a reset (can't restore because it can't get on the network) it does not see the WLAN in my house, and thinks its connected via Ethernet.
    When I go into the Settings menu, Network shows Ethernet - despite that there is no Ethernet connection.
    When I plug the Ethernet cable into it, and do a reset, it still has a self assigned address, and therefore does not see the network.
    Any ideas?
    If not, what's the name of the other AppleTV-like product(s) on the market?
    Anyone have any experience with it/them?
    If I'm going to re-invest in supporting streaming content in my house, I'm thinking that I need to start weaning myself away from Apple, who doesn't take customer service as seriously as other companies - which is weird, because with this product, the vast majority of the content I'm consuming I pay Apple for - they have stickiness with my wallet. 
    You'd think that they would bend over backwards to keep me in their walled garden and not wandering over to Amazon or other streaming content providers.

  • Apple TV not connecting to iTunes after  computer sleeps FIX

    I've tried everything over the course of several months and this one looks to be the FIX.
    Fix:
    1.   Open "System Preferences".   ( computer only), (Windows computer unknown)
    2.   Open "Network".
    3.   Click on the "Sprocket with down arrow".
    4.   Select "Make Service Order"
    5.   Move the connection your using (Wifi, Ethernet, etc.) to the top, and click Apply.
    6.   If you selected Ethernet, then turn OFF Wifi in the top menu.
    7.   Shut DOWN your computer and then restart after completely shutting down.
    7a. Either restart or unplug and plug in the Apple TV (insure your logged into Home Share after restart).
    7b. Start iTunes (insure your logged into Home Share).
    Done, and your welcome!

    I recently bought an apple tv 2 in the states (I leave in London), and was expecting the setup to be as easy as all my other devices (I have an apple tv which is 3 years old and works fine)
    when I try to connect to my wifi network, the setup screen tells me I am connected to the network, but not to internet.
    I do not think I am even connected to the network as I do not see my device in iTunes, and cannot enable home sharing.
    I also do not see the new apple tv when I admin my router (a o2 wireless ii).
    Googled the issue, and it seems I am not the only one in that situation, but I am yet to find a solution that works.
    Any ideas??

    my network is on the protocol: 802.11b/g
    and I have this setting turned on:" Allow multicast from Broadband Network"

    After an restore we have and apple tv that will not set its date and time after looking at the logs it looks like we can not see the apple time server.  This all of the just started to happen after the last software updates we have not made any changes to our firewall or network security settings. I pulled a couple of functioning apple tvs logs and the same thing is happening "Received source unavailable from "NTP" .We are using ISE authentication to connect these wirelessly.

    Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
    You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
    If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
