Apple TV not seen by Samsung DLP TV via HDMI input

I have a Samsung HL-R5677W. It's a few years old, but I decided to hook up the following via HDMI
- Playstation 3
- Apple TV
Since the Samsung only has one HDMI, I am using the Monster HDMI Advanced 3-way switcher switch that supports 3 inputs. And I purchased three 4' Ultra 600 High speed HDMI Monster cables ($100 ea.).
The playstation 3 works fine. However, my Apple TV is not being detected by the Samsung. The TV gives me a no or low signal message on the screen. So when I connect the Apple TV directly, the Samsung sees it (signal) and I get video and audio.
Your first thought is that it's the HDMI switcher switch, right!? Nope I unplugged the HDMI cable from the Samsung and plugged it into my Viewsonic N3251 LCD TV (vs11335-1m) and it detects the Playstation AND the Apple TV.... So it's not the HDMI switcher switch.
Oh, and BTW, the Apple TV works fine directly plugged into the Samsung....
Does the Samsung tv have a higher signal level requirement?
Is it the Samsung TV?
Is it the Apple TV?
Is there a better HDMI switch box and/or cable for me to use?
The next hurdle is getting the optical audio to work, if it's necessary. I want to play the audio through my A/V unit not just the TV.... Any suggestions?
Thanks

There have been many posts on HDMI switch boxes and problems these have. Do a search by entering "HDMI switch box" in the search box (upper right on this page) and look through the posts. That may help you.
As for the optical, can't you connect the optical cable directly to your A/V unit? I do that (with HDMI going to my TV) and that works. (I do have to switch off sound on the TV using its menu.)

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

  • Mac Mini not connecting at all to TV via HDMI

I have my 2012 Mac Mini plugged in to a SAMSUNG TV with an HDMI cable. It was working fine when I left work Thursday - I am trying to get it to connect today and it will not pick up the signal. Any help or troubleshooting ideas?

    1. Check the TV menu to besure that nothing has changed.
    2. Try a new or different HDMI cable.
    3. Reset the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then if those do not solve the problem, contact Apple Support or your local AASP and have it check out.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound through Samsung Home Theater via HDMI?

    Home Theater spec:  Samsung HT-C6600
Following the advice of my new Home Theater users' manual, I connected my FIOS HD STB the following way, using HDMI cables throughout:
HD STB > Home Theater HDMI input > TV HDMI input
The home theater has a bluray player built-in and the 5.1surround sounds great coming from the bluray.
However, when I watch TV, the sound only seems to be coming from the front speaker.
The settings on FIOS say that its giving surround sound.
Any advice on what could be going wrong?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It seems basic, but are the channels you are watching broadcasting in Dolby Digital 5.1? Not all of them do, and some only do it some of the time. My receiver can be set to automatically select Pro Logic II or DTS-NEO, which matrix stereo sound to 5.1, if the channel is not producing 5.1. I don't know if your system can do that.

  • Apple TV not seen on ITunes; Apple TV won't sync with Mac anymore

The Apple TV no longer shows up on Itunes and when I get Apple TV to show up on the devices list on Itunes after putting in the secret code, the Apple TV says it is syncing to my Mac when in fact it is doing nothing.
I also noticed that while the Apple TV is trying to sync, I no longer see the different types of files to sync. I just see "Other" and I no longer see photos, movies, and audio.
I have tried syncing the Mac to the Apple TV overnight twice and still not a single file gets transferred to the Apple TV.
I upgraded Itunes to version 8 and I upgraded to MacOS 10.5.5 too.
    Please help.
I have also tried streaming content from the Mac to the Apple TV and it now says the format no longer is recognized.

    scififan wrote:
Right now it says it is syncing but at the bottom it says Other and Free.
That indicates there is no content on the tv.
    It is syncing not streaming.
Yes but it doesn't sound as though it is syncing any content, it could just be syncing/updating the library database file.
This syncing happens randomly but nothing is transferred to the Apple TV. While it is trying to sync, I don't see Movies or Video or Audio at the bottom just Other and Free.
This is what you would see if it was syncing the database file.
When you turn off itunes, do you have any content on the tv you can watch.

  • Apple pay not seen in Settings in Iphone 6 when Ive iOS 8.2 installed

To setup Apple Pay, you must be in the US (Region = 'United States') and have a credit/debit card from a participating issuer.

  • Airport Express and Apple TV not seen by new computer

I have two airport expresses (both A1084 wireless g) and an Apple TV (a couple years old).  I have the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of Airport Utility.  My new computer is a PC running Windows 8.  Everything worked fine until last week when my old computer failed (it was a PC running Vista).  I got the new machine up and running and for a little while the computer could see the airport expresses but never did see the apple tv.  Then it stopped and that was that.  I shut everything down, restarted everything, uninstalled and reinstalled Airport Utility, uninstalled Airport Utility again and reinstalled an older version, that didn't work, upgraded to the new version of Aiport Utility and that still didn't work. My wireless network is fine, my iPad can connect, the new computer can access the internet fine.  My old windows xp computer that is on its last legs can see the two airport expresses and the apple tv.  But this new computer which is the one that is supposed to take care of all this for me can't.  Any suggestions because I'm at my wits end.

i'm assuming that the Airport Utility app for your ipad sees them?  I wonder if Win8 has a firewall active that is blocking the ports.

  • IPad not seen by Apps that sync via WiFI.

I use Things and GoodReader. Until recently both apps functioned as advertised and sync'd via the wifi. After installing recent iTunes upgrade both apps fail to find the iPad.
I've restored the iPad to Factory fresh and when that didn't work the iPad was stripped down to only Things and then GoodReader. In both cases the iPad could not be found. All apps have been subsequently reinstalled. Things is an essential part of my work process and the WiFi sync was great.
    Hope you can help.

    Update:
I'm using iTunes 9.1.1 (11) which, I believe, is still considered the latest by Software update.
    GoodReader fails only for WiFi.
The iPad is visible and accessible via the usb connection. All usb based services and functions perform as advertised.
Yesterday, the MBP was set to "create a network". When the iPad was configured to connect on this ad-hoc network Things sync'd with the iPad. When the MBP was returned to normal mode (ie using WiFI router) Things failed to sync. This cycle was repeated. Conclusion Things will sync on the ad-hoc network.
    The following may be relevant:
    (1) The iPad and the MBP both work well with WiFi router.
    (2) Syncing previously worked from April 10th to May 18th -- corresponding to iTunes update.
    (3) All Apps were removed, iPad firmware restored to factory fresh and Things installed. - No Joy.
    (4) Firewall on MBP turned off / on with no noticeable effect.

  • Mac mini (mid 2011) to Samsung led tv via hdmi connection problem.

    Samsung led tv - UE32D5000
    Mac mini (mid 2011)
On regular monitor (connected by hdmi to dvi cable) setup teamviewer
    Try to:
    1. Connect different hdmi cables - dose not work (on apple tv - both cables work)
    2. Connect hdmi cable to different hdmi ports.
    3. On tv change type of source - PC, PC-DVI and other.
By teamviewer I watched what was going on the computer - Mac mini does not recognize tv like monitor by pressing 'seek monitor'.

Aha! Similar problem here; Mini (Intel, Macmini2,1, the 2007 version with the larger HDI port not the smaller one)
Problem seems to happen only with both HDMI and USB connected (USB only to use the built-in webcam on the monitor, an AOC V22+ (which I love, it's a very nice monitor; LED instead of fluorescent backlight).
Sometimes it would suddenly switch to where the dock and menu bars and status bar were hidden (the desktop gets 'too big for the screen).
Then I'd go to the Display settings and unselect "overscan"
Then it'd be OK for a while, then switch to a big black space around the desktop window, lots of unused screen).
Then I'd go to the Display settings and reselect "overscan" and it'd be Ok.
    For a while.
There really ought not be a need to fiddle with 'overscan' at all -- since I'm not using this as a television. Mac OS 10.3.6 seems to mistakenly think the monitor is being used as a TV -- maybe when there's a video in a browser window?
    Not sure.
Anyhow it becomes a rock-paper-scissors problem where I have to keep chasing the settings to undo whatever it changes to at random, Lather rinse repeat.
Seems like it's only a problem for me when I have the USB cable also connected, to use the built-in webcam -- so I don't use that now.
The AOC folks have been working hard on solving this.
I just found this topic and have referred them here.
They'll be glad to know it's not their problem, I guess.
(does it happen on Apple brand displays too? I'm not sure)

  • Small vertical lines when connecting macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD via HDMI

    Hi
Just connected my macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD thru the HDMI port. Works a treat bar one issue...on non-moving images, colours which aren't whites or blacks, namely brighter colours, there appear small vertical lines. These seem to appear around the areas where there is a substantial difference between 2 colours (example the outline of a face against a lighter or darker background).
Tried all the obvious things such as calibration, different resolutions etc but cant get rid of them...they dont seem to be there with moving images though and certainly not on mainly white displays such a the Google homepage for example............Any thoughts?
    Much obliged

  • BDX1100 Blu Ray player won't connect to 50HM66 DLP TV via HDMI

Hi all.  I have been trying to connect my Toshiba BDX1100 Blu Ray player to my Toshiba 50HM66 DLP TV through the HDMI.  I have tried both HDMI 1 & 2 ports.  I have tried 3 different cables.  The Blu Ray player connects through HDMI on another TV so I don't think its the problem.  I've been through all the settings on each device and can't find anything to make it work.  I've searched and searched and read all I could find and nothing has worked, so I figured I would post here hoping to find an expert or someone experiencing similar problems.  I appreciate any feedback or advice.

  • Can not select TV speakers when connected via HDMI

I have a MBP fully updated connected to a Sony TV vis HDMI/miniport.  Up until today this configuration was working fine.  Suddenly, I can no longer select the HDMI speakers in my audio preferences.  They are recognized and appear on the list but when I select them it has no effect.  Before today, when the TV was connected the HDMI output would be automatically selected and I could not access the volume control from the menu bar, which is the way I prefer it.
I have restarted with no success in changing this behaviour.  If I open/close the lid, the sound goes to the proper settings for about 2s but then the HDMI speakers are de-selected and the built-in speakers are highlighted.  I can manually select the TV speakers but the setting has no effect.
However, I *am* getting audio output through the TV but can not control volume from the mac or any app.  I slide the volume slider on the menu bar and the audio output does not change.  The sound is also playing from the laptop speakers which is highly annoying.

and now there is no audio through the TV at all.  TV works fine with other inputs such as PS3.  Any help?

  • Black Screen when connection apple TV 2. Gen to my TV via HDMI an over a Doulby Suround System (Sound is OK)

    Dear Apple Comunity,
at first i want to wish all the best to the family and close friends of Mr. Jobs. It is a sad loss for all of us.
To come back to my topic:
I connected my apple TV set by HDMI to my Yamaha Doulby Surround System. When i try to use it then one in a while the screen stays black but i can hear the sounds of using my apple TV. I guess that indicates that the signales went from the apple TV to the Yamaha System but somehow the visual informations don´t reach my TV (and yes, i pluged the HDMI-Cable from the Yamaha to the TV-Set).
It just happens once in a while and i don´t know what to do about it. It´s pretty inconviniend that way.
The only way to get it back in track is to remove the Powerplug (HDMI doesn´t work).
    Any suggestions.
    Regards
    René Engel
PS. Pls excuse my bad english.

I suspect it's your receiver, connect the HDMI directly between the Apple TV and the TV and use an optical cable to your receiver from the Apple TV for audio.

  • Panasonic TV. Apple TV works with one HDMI input but not the other.

I have the latest version of Apple Tv and an older Panasonic TX32LXD60 Tv. The TV has two HDMI inputs. Apple TV works perfectly on HDMI1, but shows nothing on HDMI2. I am using exactly the same cable. HDMI2 works fine with my DVD player. Can anyone explain how I can get HDMI2 to accept Apple TV?

Update - Panasonic support wrote the following:
"Thank you for your e-mail enquiry regarding your Panasonic product.
I have discussed your issue with our head office AV technica ldept & they have confirmed that as the DVD player works on the HDMI input there is nothig wrong with the TV. It may be there is an incompatability with the apple TV interface & the TV. Nothing can be done to solve this as there would be not adjustments you could make to the HDMI inputs on the TV."
so according to them its not their product!
I have solved my problem by getting a Samsung TV - brilliant picture and no technical problems (so far!!)

  • HT4644 How do I get an image on a Samsung TV via HDMI adapter and cable.  Currently get only a static imgae of desktop and gray grainy screen for everything else.

How do get an image on a Samsung HD TV via HDMI adapter and cable?
Currently get a static image of the desktop and then a grainy gray picture.

If it's like mine, I used another post's advice. Go to system preferences, then display and click on "mirror". Then in system preferences go to sound and click on "HDMI".  I did this while I was connected to my Samsung TV and it worked then.
